I hired this company for emergency fire damage restoration and would urge anyone considering them to get a detailed, written quote first -- they would not provide one upfront. Response times were a serious problem throughout: it took many hours to secure the property after the fire and several days to send someone for the damage evaluation. Every subsequent step moved at the same, painfully slow pace. When they did secure the property, they used a different code/method than what they'd told us, and changed it without notifying us -- leaving us in the dark about how our own property was protected. The billing was the most troubling part. We were never given an upfront quote, and they did not disclose that they would be charging $35/hour per man for unskilled labor. For four men on site one day, that math comes out to roughly $1,100. The invoice we received was $5,000. I followed up directly with the company about these issues numerous times before posting this review. Their response was to call my concerns "uneducated" rather than address the pricing discrepancy or the unauthorized change to how our property was secured. Russ from Bulovas came to my house when I called them to give me an estimate for mold remediation. After I was given an insanely high estimate, I called to try to see if they can come down in price to match, or at least be in the ballpark of the other four estimates that I received. I left a few messages for Russ and the owner to call me back. Neither of them called me back. So I hired a different company who was 1/4 of the price of Bulovas as well as much nicer and more responsive. Since my mold remediation company does not clean carpets, I then called Bulovas again to get an estimate for carpet cleaning. I was given an insane price of almost 11,000 and a separate price of $4,500 to clean and 8 ft x 10 ft area rug. When I called the office to question the insanely high estimate, I was coldly told that that is the price, they are not coming down, and if I don't want to use them I don't have to. When again I asked to speak to someone in charge, she said there is no one to speak to. I don't think she gave my messages to the owner either time that I requested to speak to him. If someone wants to pay about $100,000 for mold remediation in addition to over $15,000 to clean six rooms of carpet, then you can try them if you want to deal with cold, rude people who never return your calls, then maybe you will be happy with Bulovas. If I could give Rory and the team at Bulovas Restorations a 10 star rating, I would. They provided a competitive quote, got the job done 2 days ahead of schedule and were quiet, neat, clean and above all, they left our full sized basement in pristine condition. And the carpeted steps they used to go up and down -- they were left cleaner than before they arrived! If I had to do it all again, Bulovas is the ONLY call I need to make. Rory shredded thousands of files and provided proof of shredding, his team plumbed our dehumidifier so we no longer have to go up and down to empty the water (Rory's great idea! I didn't even think of it), they cleaned, boxed up and marked the boxes all of the items we had indicated to clean and save and they stacked the boxes neatly in one area of the basement. I texted him several times during the course of the job and within minutes, I received thorough and professionally written replies. When he wasn't sure of something, he texted me and waited for my reply. When I wasn't certain if the dehumidifier was working properly, he offered to return to look at it.
