E & M are extremely honest. I would trust them to not only investigate your issue but use them to do the repair. We had water leaking into our basement concrete wall and thought it was a foundation issue. Matt came and looked and diagnosed the issue as a leak from our chimney and not the foundation. He could have easily said it was our foundation and performed some work but told us to contact a repair service for the chimney to solve our problem. I wanted to update my review about six weeks later. I am still so happy with the job E & M Waterproofing did on our home. It's been snowing so much and lots of rain and melting so glad we are still dry. I am so glad we did not go with the company that viewed me only as dollar signs and wanted to go with a nuclear solution like a french drain that would have just let water continue to flow into my basement and be pumped out. It may not have even worked and I was going to have to replace all tile/dry wall in my basement. Eddie suggested the problem be tackled from the outside rather than the inside. Eddie from E & M waterproofing, the owner is so straight forward, calm, cool, and collected. He has been in business a while, since 1979! I even like that his name is Ed like my dad and brother. It was like talking to my dad about a home problem. He even gave me some ideas on how to extend the sprinkler system covers and grade dirt a bit more away from the home to help with drainage. We had a basement window that would have water come in if there were major rain events.We had Eddie come over and after reviewing the areas he said the easiest thing was to just remove the window and fill in the hole where the window was.This was a useless window not providing any sunlight or access since it was under a part of the house where our kitchen table sits.He said they would call in two weeks to schedule a date and they called as promised.It took three workers three hours to get the job done and they were courteous and did a great job.This was not easy because they had to hand dig down under the house to get access to the window,dig out the well,remove the window and then fill in the hole with concrete,mortar and waterproof the interior and exterior.They cleaned up the area very well when done.Eddie was honest and very easy to deal with.He is the original owner,been in business over 45 years and has family invlolved in the business.If you are having water/leak issues,this is a no brainer to call E/M Waterproofing and have them come over to diagnose and fix your problem.They have our full endorsement! read more

I hired Matt and his crew for my basement foundation waterproofing. The water started around January and became a real problem during rainfall so I needed to address it but wanted to make the right decision. I took my time, saw about 6 different water proofing companies from February - April, but in the end chose EM Waterproofing because if they're obvious years experience, fair pricing, no nonsense approach and experienced crew. Some of them with this company for decades. The work took two days. They were clean efficient, polite, and very experienced as anyone can see. Matt was amazing as far as explaining everything, communicating when I needed to, addresses all my concerns as they came up and got the job done right. Including putting the grounds back to look very much pleasing. I am very happy and satisfied with my choice and the work done. would highly recommend them to anyone. So I wake up in the morning and step down onto my rug, my first thought is "is the rug really cold, but no...can't be...water" "fml". The water was coming from the space where the tile meets the wall. I went onto Home advisor and requested contractors to contact me for quotes for whatever it is that had to be done. I had three quotes. -The first from Vulcan. Vulcan came out and just looked at the inside of my basement then gave the quote around $3,700 which included excavating, ripping up some tile adding a tube along to a sump pump they would install. The quote included a diagram of the corner of the room, imagine a flipped L shape if you would, oh, like a 7 but the line down is straight lol. I didn't feel too comfortable with that quote as it didn't have "specifics" about what was being done written down, the specifics were given verbally. -Ed from E&M came to the house and looked at the room from the inside and the outside. He pointed to a crack in the concrete under the basement window and said "it's most likely coming in from there" then walked around the rest of the basement perimeter and showed me other cracks but said something similar to houses are old, houses have cracks, it's when they start causing a mess is when we need to be worried, so for now, take care of the cracks as they flood. Right now the best thing to do is to excavate and waterproof under this crack in the window and go a little further on each side to make sure it's not a crack from a few feet over. Ed gave a detailed quote stating exactly what would be done and how much it would be, roughly $900. This was a very different level of work from what Vulcan was telling me needed to be done so of course I had to get a third estimate. -I had a quote from Midland waterproofing. Very adamant that I be at home with my husband when he comes to give a quote. Now, I thought this was super weird but it'll somehow be clear later. So the guy comes, looks at the outside and the inside of the house, then proceeds to go into each room of the basement, not just the one with the flooding issue. He asks why my husband isn't there. I tell him bc I own the property, he says he only likes to give an estimate when both parties of the couple are there because he doesn't like having to repeat the quote and the work that needs to be done. We sit outside so he can take his mask off..I kept mine on. He pulls out a huge binder full of competitors and why I shouldn't go with any of them bc of their shoddy work. He gives me an estimate of around $7000 because he says the whole basement wall along one side of the house needs to be excavated and waterproofed. his estimate was just the price written down on a yellow notepad. When I told him I was still getting estimates from other people, he asked "what would the cost need to be for you to go with us today". At that point I was over his shady style of trying to get a sales. I said I really have to get back to work, but I'll let you know if I decide to go with you. ***spoiler alert*** I didn't go with him. I scheduled a day for Ed's team to come to the house and do the work that needed to be done. The team was on time, neat, and very polite. I've had absolutely no flooding since but only time will tell. Ed came to the house while the job was being done and called me afterward to follow up. All in all, I'd recommend E&M because they felt the least pushy and the most upfront. read more

Had some water in the basement that was seeping through the rotted wooden frame / siill that sits along the top of the concrete foundation. I could not see this or did not know this but his estimator came out a few weeks ago and explained this and gave me a quote for a repair. A number that I felt was very fair and reasonable given the expertise needed and the labor to be performed. Eddie called a day later to review quickly, and we set a date for the repair. He called again, texted actually, the day before the work was to be done, to confirm he was coming at 8 am the next day. They showed up just before 8 am with Eddie, the owner himself, along with the crew. These guys rolled in and did not waste a moment in getting to it. They pulled up a few planks from the deck to get to the suspected rotted area and sure enough there it was. 2 hours later all was done, including the deck restored back to where you would never know they had been there, and off they went to another job. I texted Eddie a thank you (as he had left for another job after getting these guys going) and he said, you are welcome and if any issues at all, just give him a call. We just had a very long rainy day and evening here yesterday and this morning I went and took a good look around in the basement....not a drop of water anywhere. Very grateful. I had a crack repaired earlier this morning by E&M waterproofing. They were punctual, professional and Eddie even showed up to the job site which I appreciated. Matt came to give me an estimate, and he was not only knowledgeable but beyond honest about giving me a solution to my problems. Matt explained I didn't have any major issues, explained what was causing the minor issues, and how to fix them. It turns out it was an easy fix? and could be done by myself. You can't beat these guys. They're prices are reasonable and they work fast and neat. They even replanted some bushes that needed to be dug out. I have a background in construction and the two other contractors I called wanted to install french drains and sump pumps, which was way beyond what was required for the modest amount of water I was getting in this basement. Steve came, looked the job over and his solution was in line what I thought was required. The price he gave me, then and there, was very reasonable. In fact it was a fifth of french drain guy one and an eighth of french drain guy two. Eddie sent a great crew who were in and out in a day. They were friendly and clean. Whelp! My basement continued to flood and I needed to move forward with the install. I would absolutely recommend them. This team came and moved so efficiently I was able to go into work that same day. The owner showed up towards the end of the install and went over everything they did. Ed responded to my home at 9:00 AM as promised. By now, I had 5 other waterproofing companies recommended by either Home Advisor or Angies List over for estimates and was fairly used to the routine. A big book carried by the salesman touting their particular organization on BBB, Home Advisor, Angie's List Google, Yelp, etc...Then an examination of the basement and in a few cases, the exterior of the house. Then came the "doom and gloom" part of the presentation... The majority of the salesmen would educate me on Hydro-static pressure and the danger it presented to my house. Evidently, we were living in a clay pot filled with water that was constantly apply pressure and attempting to enter my house through cracks in the foundation. I was also reminded of the constant rise in the "water table" in my area (Malverne). The only resolution to this dilemma was apparently to dig a perimeter ditch on the interior of my basement walls, install a "french drain" or some similar variation of plastic tubing with perforated holes, install a sump pump ( or 2) and seal in the drain with concrete. The damage to the "finished" basement would have been substantial and MY responsibility to make whole again! :( . Some variance in the pricing was based on the amount of perimeter suggested to be covered. From either the one wall where the water was coming in to the whole basement to prevent future occurrences... From $5000- $13,000. Again, NOT INCLUDING my cost to repair the damage to my sheet rock walls, baseboard and baseboard heating repairs... Add another $3-3500. Only one contractor suggested sealing the wall on the exterior which involved excavation , hydro-static cement to fill the cracks, Karnac tar, a membrane and a vapor barrier for $5,600. Enter Edward from E & M Waterproofing... No big book, 5 minutes in my basement and and a quick look outside. He informs me that I should dig out the dirt by the casement window approximately 20 inches down and back fill with gravel six inches from the sill. I also installed a new plastic shield above said window. I asked him about all the "doom and gloom" scenarios that I had already absorbed over the last week and he stated that since my leakage was event driven (Rain), he did not believe that I had water coming from underneath my house. The water table in my area HAD NOT risen and that the installation of "french drains" would be useless and ineffective in my case. The kicker was when he found my sewer trap and pointed out that I had "a hole in my foundation" where the pipe went into the ground. If my house was indeed taking on water, this would have been the first place I would have seen it!. It was dry as a bone. He also, gave me an estimate ($3,500 ) to seal the outside wall if necessary ( for my peace of mind, just in case). He did not charge for his advice and told me that he had 10 more estimates to complete knowing that he might only get 4-5 jobs due to his honesty. Needless to say, I followed his instructions that day (Mid-August) and have not had a drop of water since then. All in all, I would highly recommend E & M Waterproofing to anyone with any kind of water issues in their homes. I felt a little bit like Diogenes the Cynic until I met Edward, who has restored some of my faith in mankind... :) Description of work: I had water in my finished basement every time it rained :( read more

Since I purchased my home, the basement flooded every time it rained. I was referred to E and M by my general contractor, who could not diagnose the problem.
