This isn't about anything other than how disgusting bulk barn is. The staff are always kind here so please don't let it reflect that. I am 100% done with bulk barn now. I've purchased granola, flax seeds, chia seeds recently and disgustingly found out there is a larvae infestation in many of their grain-like items. I've visited many bulk barns in the past and have never had an issue. I buy the items, I put them immediately into clean airtight containers - there is zero chance of contamination from the time they're brought home to storage. The horrifying story happens when I free poured my granola the other night from the jar - then later that night went to refill my granola just to see larvae infested into the actual granola itself.... they blend in so I didn't notice the first few times I've eaten it. When I googled how they got into airtight containers, it was mentioned that it's all due to eggs already IN the items..... all of my bulk barn items are affected and none of the items I purchased elsewhere are. They were all bought at the same location so this is really horrific to me. I understand there are bugs and weird stuff in almost everything we eat but this is not a concern I should have to worry about constantly now. For reference, I took a picture of my flax seeds for my dog.... what the actual f is going on. I am actually so horrified. I like this location! As a scoop your own place, the first thing they had us do is sanitize our hands when we walked in. They actually had a greeter sitting right at the entrance so you couldn't really slip by without doing so. It was a very organized location. Scoops on every box! Most of the boxes had lots of stock, only a couple, like the dried pineapples, were empty. They have a lot of seasonal Christmas stuff right now including pre-built gingerbread houses and other gingerbread people. There are also lots of red, green, and white candies, chocolate, and popcorn to stay in the festive spirit. read more

I love this bulk barn and visit once every 2-3 months. You can find almost everything under the sun here including any Indian lentils which is so cool. Last time I came here I got date sugar and honey. It's pretty amazing that I can get as little or as much as I want. I got corn crispies you can snack on. I got my American cousin and she was mighty impressed. It's as if the entire store is whole foods bulk section. Do look out for their sales which makes things slightly reasonable. I bought loonies and toonies candy for my American nephews and I'm pretty sure they'll be excited. There's maple candy too!! And then I buy culinary lavender for my shortbread. I love this store and will keep coming back for more and also bring tourists here!! :) read more

This new store has opened up at the location that housed the now defunct Rogers Video. The location is decent as there is a dearth of this kind of store in the area. There were quite a few people shopping here when I visited so I am hoping this store will do well and serve this area long term. The location is somewhat medium sized for this chain of stores. Prices can be reasonable when things are on sale or if you want a smaller amount for certain item this place at least gives you an option to try before shelling out $$ for whole box load. Good selection of all sort of items such as candies, flours, chips, dry fruit etc. etc. The place is well lit and only downside is the limited number of cash registers which lead to lineups on my visit here. 3.5 Stars all said and done. read more

Even though I live stumbling distance from the Yonge and Carlton location, I actually like this location on Front Street much better. It's always clean, and never so busy that you can't walk down an aisle. Stock up on small amounts of baking items and spices (but beware, if you are buying large amounts you should price it out, often spices and flours are much cheaper when you buy a package at No Frills down the street), buy yourself some candy or chocolate without committing to an entire box, or even get healthy stuff like protein bars and raw peanut butter (blech! why?) The cashiers seem friendlier here, and the lineups are never as crazy as the Yonge location. A great place for after Easter, Valentines, Halloween specials! I am a fan! read more

The concept for Bulk Barn is great! I enjoyed walking up and down the aisles and seeing so many varieties of goodies from grains, pastas, candies, spices, flours, sugar and lots of baking pans, tools and equipment. Store manager very knowledgeable about baking and was providing tips to a shopper while I was visiting. The great thing about the store is you can buy as much or as little as you like. I even saw machines that dispensed various liquids like molasses. There was even royal icing. I could never get bored in this place and wish we had Bulk Barn back in the states. read more

I'm digging the new Bulk Barn location as it makes a great grocery trip paired with the St Lawrence market on a Saturday. Now I can get all my grocery shopping done in one go! The new location is so far staying very clean, spacious and pristine. I like that it's not too overcrowded with customers and the line moves quickly, unlike the Yonge/College location which is a madhouse. The cashiers are very friendly, albeit a little bit slow to punch in the codes, but I will give them a few more months to memorize them and expect improvement! The weekly deals are great. A whole lb of jube jubes for $1.37? Yes please. Many dangerously unhealthy options here but they are starting to get their act together and now carry many healthy options. Fresh ground nut butters from the machine, wide variety of beans, legumes and whole grains. You can even get bulk whey protein powder! read more

I'm liking this new Bulk Barn! Bulk Barn is dangerous for me. Too many delicious things that I just have to eat. Sweets, chocolates, cookies, chocolate covered nuts, trail mixes.... I love their sunflower seed butter and sometimes dream about their "clowning around" trail mix and the bins of chocolate chips. They also have healthier things like quinoa, oatmeal, spices, teas, coffee beans etc and non-bulk items like nut milks, British chocolates and pretty much everything you could need for baking. I prefer this store to Carlton St. The layout is a little nicer and the bins are smaller with a place for the spoon. Check-out was slow because it has just opened and the assistant was being trained in. Having been there for the first week of Carlton St though, I'm pretty confident that they'll all by up to speed within no time. Great location too, close to St Lawrence Market and No Frills. Just don't forget the lovely Domino Foods downstairs in SLM. They deserve some business too! read more

I'm a fan of bulk barns in general. They have a wide variety and grains. This stop in, I was looking for crystallized ginger ~ yes, I'm totally planning to back some chocolate ginger cookies. Yum. In all seriousness...I have no idea where else to by crystallized ginger! They also have a wide variety of sweets, which I'm also thankful for. The staff was super helpful here. They helped me to find what I need, and they even bagged it for me. The checkout experience was also good. The staff here know their stuff. Stop in, it's fun. read more

This Bulk Barn store at 120 Front East had high average rating on both Google and Yelp. I live in its neighborhood and shopped here a few times, having the same impression too that staff is friendly and collection of products is good. Until this evening - incompletely unacceptable disrespectful customer service rendered by a young man who claimed he is the store owner's son. In interaction with him there was a thought crossing my head I was getting lost in some rough and poor west end where matters are settled with no reasoning but bullying and violence. It was a simple return of 3 piping tips as I bought too many a few days back. I keep nearly 10 other items. The only cashier to whom I explained my purpose nodded his head toward a person standing in the aisle. I had to ask him if I should continue standing in the same line. He mumbled some incomprehensible words. The other person then returned to the other cash register and called me to come over. I explained to him again. I heard him uttering a few lines that again I felt very odd as incomprehensible. I captured "bought too many". OK so he heard my explanation. Then I heard he said more than once "keep staring at me", and "not ... (???) conversation". He did not look at me when saying, making him look like mentally disturbed. I asked him what he said. He did look at me and avoided answering. I wanted to be sure before determining this young man actually said such disrespectful thing. I asked again. He avoided again before he told me to get out. I was not staring, I was looking at people's eyes as in a manner of respect during the conversation. I work in a business that meet with business owners and executives of large organizations on a weekly basis. Professionally we know how to look at but not stare at. This St Lawrence area is called home by an increasing number of professionals working in downtown, and older people who are financially secured and love downtown activities that choose to stay after retiring. I paid the original purchase with Visa. He gave me cash. He could not make the return to my Visa, he said. I don't know if the return is accurate, he did not give me back my receipt. This neighborhood is only 10 min walk from the Financial district, not an obscure rundown corner of the city. Stores use credit card machines and use them for both sales and return activities. Procedure is standard in which the store will circle the items returned and give the receipt back if there are items remaining, for clarity and customer record. For store's record, store can make a copy if they want to. This person is not mentally disturbed or needs any help in this regard. He knew consciously what he was doing, evidently in remembering to not return my receipt and not repeating what he said when asked, because he knew it's not acceptable. He also remembered to slash out a get out when he lost. I truly feel sorry for this experience happening just a few blocks from my home, in my beloved neighborhood. It's also sad there were a few shoppers at the time but no one wanted to share any interest to know what was going on. I feel sorry for the store owner who gave the care of his store to this kind of hand. Or perhaps like father like son, I would not know until I get a sincere apology. read more

This Bulk Barn is awesome! Lots of things to eat from Candies, nuts, chocolates and much more! The reason why i love it so much is because of the new location! It's very convenient for George Brown Students! They can get their groceries done in minutes after school or before school or maybe grab a snack for class since it's sooooooo cheap! Found everything I was looking for and more. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Only thing I noticed was that they do not have hours on the door and the ones in Yelp! are not correct. I went Sunday night when they were supposed to be open until nine and was disappointed to find out that I had missed their actual close (six) by twenty minutes, the other five people standing at the door when I got their also thought the same thing. I've been to quite a few Bulk Barns, this is my favourite. Wide isles. Massive selection. I haven't had many run-ins with staff at Bulk Barn generally but I have here and these people are decent. read more
