I enthusiastically give them a 5 star rating and highly recommend, which is how I found them…read more They were super helpful and spent time on the phone with me prior to coming out to understand what we wanted before arriving, thus using time efficiently. The cost quoted was $300/first hour then $150/hour. This seemed pretty high, but I can be out of touch with reality on pricing. Figuring out a crazy DIY mess from previous owner on a 107 year old house was quite the ordeal to put a ceiling electrical box up. When the 3 hour project was done it cost me $600. That was very reasonable because he worked quickly and efficiently. Quotes seven years ago from other electricians were $1000 plus .

I got 3 estimates for replacing my very old furnace and AC. The first company was way overpriced…read morefor a low-tier furnace and didn't even mention a heat pump option. Then Jeff from Central Air came and I felt so relieved afterwords. I was pretty sure I was going with them. The 3rd company that came and gave an estimate was much better than the first, but Central Air still beat them on the price of product, knowing their trade and communicating that well, and not upselling me for what I needed. I appreciated that. Alexander and his co-worker did a great job installing the furnace and heat pump. I'm a wood worker and I appreciated their detail and communication. Professional and hard working guys. It's been 3 days now and it runs perfectly and pretty happy about it. Thanks Central Air!

They installed undersized ductwork in my house, causing high static pressure. Only reason I found…read moreout was when they tried to blame the problem on a slightly dirty blower motor. After refusing to pay over $700 for the cleaning I requested to see the pressure at installation. They have never given that information to me, but determined it was high due to the ductwork. I call about once a month and they promise to have Adam the installation manager call me back but he never does. When I asked for a higher manger, they too never called back. At least they could tell me to go F myself‍

The communication from first contact through completion of our new AC installation was excellent -- we always knew who was coming out and when to expect them, with notifications arriving both by email and text, and polite requests to confirm each appointment. All the personnel at Specialty have been so helpful. Nicole in the office answered questions and took careful notes. Eric came out and listened to our concerns and answered a lot of picky detailed questions. He did a great job of explaining the challenges of installing AC in an older house, which helped us make a good decision about which type of system to install. And after the installation, Eric came to check air flow in every room of the house, showed us how to optimize that and gave us tips and advice for using the system. As for the installation itself, we were very happy with both Bailey and Devin, the pair who carried it out. Bear Electric did great work to support the installation. And finally, some days after installation, Skylar came out to clean all the ducts, including our dryer duct! We really appreciated both the careful, detailed service and everyone's friendly, professional attitudes. It's clear that Specialty chooses their employees with care and it seems the company treats their employees with respect. We're very satisfied with the AC system and service we purchased from Specialty Heating & Cooling, and would recommend them enthusiastically to friends, family and anyone else looking for respectful, knowledgable and friendly HVAC service.

I am not sure why issues with home systems always seem to happen on weekends or long holidays--but…read morethat's usually when something stops working. At the same time, we are all talking about rising costs and how we're paying more than twice what we used to just a couple of years ago. Companies like Specialty Heating & Cooling are contributing to this problem with pricing practices that, in my view, take advantage of customers. Last week, I noticed an unusual noise coming from our furnace. I had a good idea of what it might be, as I dealt with the same issue when we lived in a different home. I called Specialty Heating & Cooling and scheduled an appointment. The technician arrived on time, and within five minutes, the diagnostics confirmed exactly what I suspected. That's when I was told there was a $189 diagnostic fee--something no one had mentioned when I scheduled the visit. I paid it, but I made it clear that this had not been disclosed. The technician said he would call after the Thanksgiving weekend with a repair estimate. On Monday, he contacted me and asked for my email. When I requested the total cost of the repair, the quote was $1,186.43. I asked for an explanation of how they justified charging nearly $1,200 for a part that retails for about $142, installs with three screws, and takes less than 30 minutes to replace. Unfortunately, no clear explanation was provided. If their quote had been anywhere near reasonable--say, up to $500--I would have approved the repair immediately. I spent a total of 15 minutes removing and reinstalling that part. The entire process required removing and replacing only three 1/4-inch screws. Given how quick and simple the job was, I'm struggling to understand why the charge was so high. This level of work does not justify the price that I was quoted. However, at this price, I strongly suggest exploring alternatives before calling Specialty Heating & Cooling, unless you're comfortable paying far more than what the job is worth.
