It's time like this I wish I could give zero stars. Skylift was the installer for my new…read moreconstruction home. The door lasted all of 10 months before catastrophically failing. One day when my wife was backing out there was a large bang and all the top and bottom rollers flew off, and top panel was irreparably damaged. I believe there were maybe 3 rollers in the middle panel preventing a complete collapse. Upon calling skylift in to warranty their work, the technician accused me of sabotaging the door by placing a stick under it while closing (nevermind that built in safety mechanisms would have prevented the door from closing if that were the case, as was demonstrated at the arbitration hearing), and refused to do any repairs. On top of that the technician physically threatened me for not accepting his laughable excuse not to cover the door. I'm going to give you a quote from Skylift's official response: "The installation itself was done properly and to the manufacturer specifications and has operated properly for over a year [this is a lie, it was 10 months] with no documented warranty visits. It's not covered under out labor warranty or the manufacturer product warranty". First of all, the installation was not done properly according to independent third parties. Both a home inspector and company which performed repairs noted among other things that: 1) The tracks were too wide 2) The door was not tensioned properly. 3) The cable drum was not flush with the bearing plate. I believe that all of these things contributed to one of the cables jumping out of the drum and snagging, which then led to complete failure of the door. And second, these clowns were touting the fact that their brand new door in a brand new house almost made it a year without breaking as something to be proud of. Really, Skylift? Operating properly for almost a year is something you're proud of and to be used in your defense? Is that a record for Skylift or something? The garage door on my previous house was still working after 20+ years of service. I ended up going to arbitration under the warranty contract and winning, and even with a legal ruling in our favor we decided it was too risky to let these people work on the door. Our fear was that they'll probably just do the bare minimum, and in another year or so the door will pop out again, possibly on a car or worst case a child. That door was a ticking time bomb. Let that sink in: even after winning the arbitration process we decided it wasn't worth the safety risk to let these people near our house again. I highly recommend you go to a more reputable company who does proper installations and stands behind their work. Shame on you, Skylft!

So what brought on this 5-star review all-of-a-sudden, you ask? Well, about two months ago, the floor pan (also plastic) started to bubble up. After calling, one of the Bryton crew came out and found that it was "de-laminating". He told us that it was all good since it was warranted for Life! To make a longer story short.. the guys were out within a few weeks, ripped out the entire shower, and installed a brand new replacement. And they did all of this with a big smile on their faces, as if they were really happy to have us as customers! Needless to say, we no longer feel so bad about the initial cost. Buyer beware - OHDC of Raleigh willingly sends defective parts, and the home owner has to catch the…read morequality issues. We built in Wexford Reserve. We had several significant quality challenges with OHDC of Raleigh: 1. Wrong garage door ordered, and installed anyway - despite writing exactly what we wanted and included a pic in email.  2.  Defective doors: Both doors had multiple concave areas. We were told by OHDC it was a manufacturer issue and a lot of customers "don't mind it". We're including pictures because it wasn't just one panel. We are at a loss to know how a professional installer can look at those garage doors and think they were acceptable. Additionally, these defective panels were a different color on the interior garage side.  When we asked why they were a different color - response was - "oh that's just dirt, they were probably sitting in the warehouse for a while". 3. Glass: Some of the glass was installed backwards, so the tinting was different. Again, not identified on installation or on later visits. We had to point it out. 4.  Seal: A broken seal, or some type of oil (what we were told) - could be seen between several panes of glass.  Again, it was explained to be a manufacture defect, but they were installed anyway. Again, no one checking for quality issues. 5. Door frame: The garage door opening was built too large, and installers had to use four seal trim pieces on one side, and two on the other side of both doors. However when these four pieces were cut, every single one of them was a different length, and none of them sealed with the concrete. One seal was more than an inch high off the concrete. As a result, large amounts of water flowed into our garage causing staining of the baseboard and sheet rock, damp odor, and possibly mold exposure within the wall. We have a video of water flowing into the garage. They never told us the initial deployment was a temporary fix that was supposed to be corrected later. This was never done until we caught it after heavy rains. Conclusion: We are extremely disappointed none of these problems were identified at time of installation. We had to find the problems, which meant multiple trips to our property to coordinate, as well as potential for damage long term. OHDC has employees that are incompetent, don't care, and think customers are too stupid to catch defects. Pictures we've included tell the nightmare story. Buyer beware.

Insanely expensive as compared to prices paid ($200-$300) by colleagues of mine who had similar repairs in the Raleigh area. First I would like to say that overall I am pleased with the new door and window side pieces and…read moreglad that we replaced our old patio door that had water damage. I also feel that the guys who did the install behaved professionally, were friendly, worked hard and deserved the tip that they received. We originally went to Window Works in Cary before the holiday hoping to have our patio door replaced quickly. We met with Jeff and asked him to show us options for Anderson products to replace our patio door and side panels. Since they had a busy schedule we returned at the beginning of January to place our order and pay the 50% deposit. We were told that our order would probably there in about 2 weeks but it would likely be about 6 weeks before the install. When paying and signing the contract I scribbled on a few notes that Jeff reviewed. I discussed with him that (I assume like most people) we had an issue in the past of not having work done professionally or needing to have others clean up afterwards and I wanted to be sure there was a clear agreement between us. The work is completed now and overall we are pleased. However there were some issues that we are not so pleased with about the final results. I will list them and try to post pictures to clarify and let you decide if you would be pleased. 1. Upon final inspection before the installers left, I noticed that the grills don't match the door and side pieces. When I asked them if that was typical they stated they didn't think they had ever seen that before and they were certain it was never an issue with Anderson doors. They let me know the product I have is Therma-Tru.On viewing the contract I noticed that it says Anderson Windows and has that Anderson logo but under details it also mentions Therma-Tru Fiberglass which when ordering I thought was the type of Anderson door since that was the only brand we discussed. My mistake for not having that clarified but there is no way I would have knowingly ordered a "no-name" brand that I never heard of before. 2. So the Therma-Tru door looks nice and is fine but certainly I can't leave it with grills that don't match so that was a big concern for me. Jeff then told us that the door needs to be painted and within a certain time period in order to not void the warranty. Weather strip and hardware removed and all 6 sides painted order to keep the warranty on the door according to the manufacturer!(I had asked Jeff prior to ordering if painting the door was included and he did tell me that it wasn't but he also said the door would be fiberglass so I wouldn't have the same issues I had with our painted wooden door but I could paint it another color if I wanted.) If I had known about this I would have at the very least schedule painters to be there the day after the install. 3.They added quarter-round molding all the way across under the 2 side pieces and the door. I have never seen a piece like that under a door opening and think it looks odd. (This also needs to be painted) 4. Threshold has several pieces in various colors and to me it doesn't look great that way and one part is raw wood and needs to be painted. 5. There are "black" pieces used for threshold and under side pieces. I think it is an odd color to use with such light colors on the home but I think it looks fine for the door threshold but really strange and ugly under side sections. It looks like they are thresholds to walk on up to the windows. (Even worse that pieces shows inside and due to the material will need to be treated differently for painting ) 6. Lots of nail holes showing that will need to be filled 7.The flashing was showing under the door and it looked awful. When I told the installers that I really couldn't accept that they found a nice solution and fixed it. So that part turned out nicely. 8. They didn't clean the door or glass. NOT a huge deal for me in this case but I certainly feel that it should have been cleaned. If you are ordering windows or doors I'd highly suggest that you write CLEAN All on the contract. (BTW, on our first visit we did let Jeff know that one of our next projects was going to be replacing all of the old windows in our home.) 9. We sent Jeff pictures and invited him to stop by which he did. He just kept talking about how great he thought it looked and didn't seem to care about our opinions. 10. Another HUGE issue is that the following day I found out that I can't have any blinds or curtains installed on the door for privacy!!! Um, I sure could have used that info prior to ordering- thanks:( Therma-tru states that can void the warranty and that the solution would be to replace the new glass pieces and purchase new glass with the blinds inside! We would have for sure paid to have blinds inside if we had known of this issue. Even if I wanted to replace the new glass I still wouldn't be able to hang the custom made valances I had made!
