Burke Brothers Hardware has saved the day on a few occasions. My coworkers swear by them so I started stopping here when I need something. I bought a saucer sled here before a winter storm a few years ago when everyone else was sold out. The staff is knowledgeable and always willing to help out. There's no such thing as a dumb question. We were attempting to find 4 chair castors and fittings. We looked but had no luck in finding the appropriate and common pieces at Lowes Hardware. We finally flagged down an associate, but he could not find them either, even though I showed him a picture. He flagged down another associate - one who was older with a lot of badges on his Lowes vest. He looked at the picture and quipped "we don't have those", and walked away without offering any help or alternate suggestions. This encounter is why I hate shopping Lowes. We left and went to our local ACE Hardware store, Burke Brothers, a much smaller shop, whose associate greeted us at the door and upon seeing the picture took us directly to the exact item we needed along with the proper drill bit tool we would need to help fit it to our chair. Best hardware store in our area. Great customer service from this local business. Unlike big box stores, with cheap products and little knowledgeable assistance, at Burke Brothers you can purchase the bolt you need rather than paying for a large quantity that you don't need. If something doesn't or fit or work, they will take it back and they always make the effort to help their customers. The staff is courteous and helpful and many have worked there for years. If asked, they can often give tips on how to make small repairs. If your order is heavy, they offer to carry it to your vehicle. Plants in their garden section are well cared-for, and they offer some great varieties of vegetables and herbs that do well in our local climate and soil. They have bird feeders and gardening supplies plus soil amendments and mulch out back that they will load for you. If you are lucky you may even meet the resident cat! Perfect place to shop for presents for the handymen and handywomen in our family, and it's often my last stop before Christmas. I always start my hardware shopping at Burke Brothers because the staff is great, the quality is good, and our community needs this business! read more

This is a great local hardware store. The employees are knowledgable and always eager to help. I stop in here to buy stuff for work regularly and I much prefer it to the bigger chain stores. For such a small store the selection is great and prices are too. The feeling of shopping Burke Bros is hard to explain but it just feels homey and comfortable. They have a ton of non hardware merchandise which makes it worth exploring even if you dont have a project. They've recently improved their point of sale machines which makes the receipts much easier to process. They used to have to handwrite itemized receipts for me so I could expense them but no more. read more

Kudos to this small hometown hardware store for providing a necessary service to locals and the occasional traveling vagabond that finds themselves in need of a tool. I am definitely a self service kind of guy and would always prefer to search for and compare prices and qualities of the item I find myself in need of. So after searching the web for hardware stores including the big box stores Burke had exactly what I was looking for and also a good price! Their store was just down the road from my work assignment for this week so after my shift I put them into my GPS and walked in. Quickly located my desired part and paid the nice young man at the counter. It's always nice to use a local business over the big corporations if possible. read more

These folks set the golden standard for service. It's just incredible. The fact the they are still in business in the day of Lowes and Home Depot pretty much tells the tale. I always get lost + can never find a clerk at Lowes/Home Depot. Quite the opposite here. When I go in to Burke Brothers there are always people ready to help me find exactly what I need, whether it's a high-dollar tool or a 33cent screw. Last time I was in their store, I had a clerk helping me on a wild goose chase to match a missing bolt from my ceiling fan. He was able to find it - and cheerfully so! All so I can spend $2.67 with them. I realize an exchange like this is a loss for Burke Brothers. But because their service is exceptional, I come back time and time again (and I actually have a business account with them). Hopefully over the long run they are not losing money on me :) Nutshell version: Go to Lowes/Home Depot and get lost + never find help. Or save yourself time/effort and go to Burke Brothers, where they will help you find exactly what you need. read more

Was staying in the RV area of the fairgrounds and needed some items. This was the closest hardware store so gave it a try. Not only did they have everything I needed, that had a few other items I hadn't been able to find elsewhere. Staff was very helpful and friendly. For a small store they have good COVID precautions in place. One tip, don't park on the street side of the store, go into the side lot. Otherwise you have to back into traffic. read more

Burke Brother's Hardware is an old-fashioned hardware that has at least one or two of just about everything that a good hardware should carry. Most of the folks that work there are children, or grandchildren, or nieces or nephews of the original Burke Brothers. These folks are very knowledgeable about their wares. If you are not a fan of those mega hardware stores then Burke Brothers Hardware will be a godsend. This family owned business may look like a small store on the outside but on the inside presents a much different story. You will be overwhelmed with not only the selection of hardware needs but also the knowledge by the friendly staff. Amazingly prices are nearly in line with those mega hardware stores. But if you are a downtown Raleigh resident you will find that you can be in and out of the store in no time with some free added expert help. This location has everything from lumber, tools, nails, screws, livestock feed, plants, keys and the list goes on. Plenty of parking and usually the staff will help load your car. The added services outnumber Lowes or Home Depot hands down. The only drawback is that this store closes typically at 6pm. read more

They have a huge selection, not a huge crowd, makes it easy for a Dad, etc to wonder off from the den and check out some "man" toys. Don't forget their is a small engine repair company attached at the rear of the building. Great place to get repairs or run by and pick up parts like I did for my Craftsman mower. read more

When I need anything hardware-related, Burke Brothers is the first place I go. It's a small shop, but it's stocked to the hilt! So they don't have large appliances or miles of lumber or home decor stuff like a big-box shop; they specialize in what they do have to offer, and the level of knowledge displayed by the staff regarding their products is far better than what is generally found in the chain stores. Service is always attentive but not overbearing and - most impressive to me - not once have I felt condescended to or dismissed by the staff because I'm a woman. Also, popcorn popper! Forget being overwhelmed by Home Depot. When you walk in here it is like being handed a warm cup of hot chocolate. Many times I have come to them-very frustrated- with a broken part of something in my hand. They always meet me at the front door -and take me right to what I need. When I do home repairs I always have to go back to Home Depot 2 or 3 times and going to a Big Box store takes so much of your day that you don't have time to even do the repair until the next day. Going to Burks Brothers is an easy in and out with expert help. I was trying to fix a slow drain, and when I opened an inspection cover, it just crumbled in my hands. Other than that, I had removed a clog from the pipes, but the drain was now moving slower. So, I went into the hardware store, they had a cover, and I asked for an idea as to what else might be wrong. He thought about it for a moment, and he said "check the roof vent" and he told me how to do that. I went home, followed his instructions, and in less that five minutes the drain was running like it was scared! Thank You Burke Brothers!! read more

The big stores don't carry them but Burke Brothers has a HUGE selection. Need a feather duster or an old-fashioned crank stovetop corn popper? I hunted all over town for replacement wicks for indoor oil lamps before finding a selection here, as well as non-citronella oil for the lamps.
