Hudson's Hardware staff are always friendly. I purchase the pine pellets for the bottom of my cats' litter boxes. On top of the single layer of pine pellets, I lay a good amount of pine shavings. You get these in very large bags each for 8 bucks and change. Since I began using these, years ago, my cats' litter boxes stay odor free. No scooping. Just toss out and refill. The guys take those big bags out to my car for me. I really appreciate that. Stop spending a small fortune on expensive cat litter. Go natural with less maintenance and visit Hudson's Hardware. Carried blower in to get repaired they quoted $570 to $575 to repair it but would sell me a new one for $649.99. I told them not to repair it when I picked it up it was tore apart. Got home missing parts called them and returned and they gave me parts in a bag. Carried it to local shop and had to buy parts that they did not give me when I picked it up. Got it fixed for $150 even after buying missing parts. Called to talk to owner never returned my call. You decide if they are honest. read more

I did and he knew so that was nice he stopped by and ask because I was just about to do find someone. But the clerk at the register was not very pleasant. I did business with Hudson Hardware in Garner for 40 years and thought the world of Mrs. Hudson. She helped us every year with our garden seed needs and flowers. Even after she hit her senior years she would sit in her chair in the middle of the seed department and give us sound advice. Mrs. Hudson is no longer with us and she has been replaced by a different caliber of people. I recently went back to Hudsons in Clayton to buy a third tray of 36 pansies (purchased two on a previous trip). While I was in the process of replacing a poor plant in one of the slots the Hudson employee shoulder bumped me while simultaneously snatching the plant from my hand and snapping "Don't do that." I'm a senior citizen and I not about to get into a shoving contest with a young fellow. I promptly turned and left. Went to Lee's and bought my last tray of 36 pansies. I visited Hudsons at 9am on a Tuesday. They are a very popular place! They had lots of employees on staff who were friendly and offered help frequently. I originally came in to have my lawnmower tire changed and ended up shopping for flowers and garden essentials. Its such a quaint store, but they have everything from outdoor flowers, seeds, lawnmower repair, cleaning supplies, petfood and even some non perishable food! Just moved to the Clayton area from SoCal and finding a solid hardware store around town seems like an hour drive in total but not anymore since i discovered Hudson's Hardware. It's not a huge store by any means but should have the majority of what the Lowes and Home Depots have unless they are out of stock. The staff are all helpful and very friendly. Parking lot is easily accessible. Convenience at its finest and I'm super stoked that i don't have to drive an hour just to grab some quick items. They even have pet food as well for all you country folks and your live stock. read more

Hudson's is a quaint little store located off of the 70 in Clayton. I passed by it all the time without a second thought to go in. But I was recommended by a home Depot rep because I wanted some unique plants for my backyard. Once you're on site, the outside is beautiful and the pergola walkway sort of transports you into their garden. Although their succulent section is limited in color and type, they were at least large and healthy. They have plenty of herbs and bushes to choose from. I found lavender, lemongrass and citronella, all plants helpful to keep the bugs at bay. Garrett was super insightful about plants and how to care for them. He told us the majority of the plants are locally sourced from a guy who owns a large greenhouse. The inside wasn't anything to write home about. It gave more of an old school general store vibe. All staff were super friendly and local. They even sharpen kitchen knives and tool blades. My only recommendation for them is to invest some time into decorating the indoor and outdoor space. If they put even a few of their flowering plants closer to the road it would intrigue a lot more people to stop by. read more

The first one I used for 2 years and gave it to my step son. It is still a good machine. The second one I still have for 3 years and a great mower. This store has great people and Travis has sold me both mowers. He is very nice guy and very smart. Knows his mower. I am retired and had 136 people under me. I have only good things to say about Hudson's. We are new to the Clayton area and have been shopping big box stores, but at Hudson's we had a completely different experience. The store and garden center are staffed with helpful, knowledgeable folks who go out of their way to help you. The selection of tools, garden and hardware supplies and plants is immense. The prices are also low compared to Lowe's and Home Depot and they carry name brand power tools not found at those places. Extremely disappointed with the service I received that Hudsons in Clayton. I had my Toro 60 inch Zmaster service bye them last month. They replaced cylinder head and adjusted valve. Used the mower 4 days and the engine throw a rod. When I went to check the oil , there was none in the engine when I paid for and oil change. The supervisor at the counter blamed me and I told him I will never use there service again. read more

Great place. I have used them before. Usually for quick or small items I needed to fix something or needed to finish a job. I was waiting on something from the back so I had time to wonder around a bit. Man, I was kicking myself for not using them more often. Got all you need for jobs around the house and more. Hudson's is a great hometown hardware store. Granted, they are more expensive than the "big box" retailers but, they provide a level of service that the big boxes can't match. You are greeted by a helpful employee as soon as you walk through the door. Odds are that they will have what you need to complete your home improvement or yard care project at a fair price. Dropped off a mower there beginning of August which had a few issues. They said it would take 5 weeks before they could look at it. No problem I told them to do whatever they needed to do to fix it. 3 months later after calling many times they said it was done. Picked it up and still has problems. I spent nearly 800 dollars for a battery a oil change and them to tape up a burned wire. Very unhappy. Overheats and looks like the alternator is shot. Problem is they are too busy to get it right. I normally enjoy going to Hudsons. However, several times that I have been to their Clayton location, one of their cashiers is extremely rude. Today, I was buying gardening soil... It rang up at 7.99$ for a 2 cubic foot bag. I questioned it because the sign out front said that for potting soil. The two types of soil are distinctly different and potting soil normally costs more. But she felt the need to say, in a rude sarcastic way, "well, there's a sign posted out front." So I went lowes and guess what? I saved money! read more

Nearly every time I go in the store I regret doing so. The guys stand around and visit with each other, watching the women work at the register. They treat female customers like we're stupid, but they can't offer any suggestions or expertise. Many of the shelf tags are missing or incorrect for the items above. I have had one helpful cashier, a nice kid who loaded my mulch, and the lady who helped me with bordetella vaccine seemed to know what she was doing.
