I can't say enough good things about this family owned and operated local business. I got myself stuck in a bait and switch situation with the last locksmith I called from the valley. It started off with a cheap service call, thought I was getting a killer deal. Then the guy tries to up sell me on $300 worth of stuff I didn't need. Purchased a home in Simi and wanted to get all of the locks Rekeyed. Fortunately my realtor recommended Buffum's Safe & Lock and I had the pleasure of working with someone I know, who also happens to be a professional, and a good dude. We have active fires in the area and yet Scott still shows up, rekeys all of my locks, makes duplicate keys, and even makes an adjustment on my main door that enables it open easily. Horrible customer service. I called to schedule an appointment last week and they set up a time for Friday. Later in the week they called to reschedule for a later time on Friday. Then on Friday, they called to reschedule for Monday. Monday came around and they called in the morning to say they needed to come earlier, and said someone would be at our house momentarily. Nobody showed up, and when I called they claimed that as soon as someone pulled up to our house they got an emergency call and had to leave - they could come later in the day, or come back immediately. I told them unless they were sending someone back immediately, we were going to find someone else to do the job, because we can't keep changing our plans for them. They responded with "then let's go ahead and cancel". Rude and horribly unprofessional. NO THANKS! read more

I live in Camarillo so for several years I've come in here to have keys cut for spares for my house, motorcycles, cars etc. As well as for general lock questions for not so normal locks. Yesterday I sent my son to B & B hardware to get a couple keys made for a used car I just purchased. I was expecting to pay three or four bucks each as I have had several keys copied at B & B. My son got confused and ended up at Buffum's and purchased the keys there. This morning I checked my credit card statement and just about fell over when I saw my card was charged $171. That's when I learned car keys are not the same as house keys. Car keys have a chip and spares are $90...each. We went back into the store this morning, spoke to Zach and explained that had we known we only would have only purchased one. He was so cool. He gave us a refund for the second key with no problem. As I left he went ahead and just gave me the second key. They clearly care about satisfying their customers. If I ever have a need I will do business with them again. read more

I took a cabinet door in to have keys made, Zack Marx made the keys and I was not happy with the difficulty of opening the lock. I paid him $20.00 He gave me no receipt and told me to give it a try. When I got home the lock would not lock in the door closed position only in the door open position. I called and spoke to Zack. He told me it worked fine when it left his shop, basically called me a lair and told me to bring the door back and he would look at it. I asked if my $20.00 dollars was refundable and he began arguing with me, he then hung up on me. Camarillo is a very small town and I will never let any employee at Buffums work on a lock at my residence I don't trust them. I do agree with the other reviewers which said the employees are extremely rude. I can't see a store with this kind of costumer service lasting in Camirillo long. I hope this helps. read more

Excellent service! Scott was professional, courteous, & friendly. He even came back for a second time when I asked him about a couple of extra doors that didn't lock correctly. I had a horrible experience before calling them. I was charged a whopping $450 from another company just to change two locks. Then the guy didn't want to leave without me giving him money when he literally just gave me a quote, saying he drove in from The Valley. (The company wouldn't give me a quote over the phone.) I had to have a neighbor come over to help me get him to leave! When I called Buffums, they gave me a free quote over the phone and gave a reasonable rate. I absolutely feel Buffums is a company I can trust. They were honest, truthful, & not demanding. And if I need help, there is a brick and mortar store I know will be there in my time of need. read more

Just excellent. I took my client there today to see if she can get a key made that can fit into a gripper so she's able to turn her car on. It wasnt able to work because her key has a chip in it. They took the gripper and figured a way out to put her key in it. She tried it out and was finally able to start her car on her own she was ecstatic. They even went as far as to not charge her for what they had done. Wonderful shop you don't find nice people like this these days. read more

helped me secure old weiser lock parts for my front door. Weiser is no longer in business and my front door handle and lock assemble is an odd size. it would be difficult to find a new lock without drilling more holes in my door. I recently wanted to change the door locks at my residence to the new keyless entry kind. I purchased two from a home improvement store and a handyman installed them. The keyless entry idea worked so well I bought another for a third door but did not have the tools or experience to install it. I called Buffums and the next day a gentleman came out to discuss the installation. Levi adjusted the new keyless entry locks to the right code. He brought up several good points about security and convenience and I agreed to having the third install done and having all the locks on my doors changed so that ONE KEY could be made to fit all of the doors, including the keyless entry ones because if the battery fails in that type of lock one may need a key. LEVI and another man arrived in a well marked vehicle, were clean and acted professional and business like at all times. They explained everything as they did it and asked about a couple of door locks that I had not remembered. I am very satisfied plus they made several spare keys, should I lose one and re-programmed all the door codes for me. HOWEVER, the real service that LEVI provided was on a second call I made when my garage side door LOCKED by itself somehow and my dogs were inside and I could not get the door open. I called BUFFUMS, and I have to say I was pretty steamed that my new one key to open all doors wasn't opening the door when there was an emergency. LEVI arrived about an hour later and was not sure why the key was not working but he got the door open and rescued the dogs. As it turned out, the locking mechanism had disintegrated due to age and the pieces had fallen toether causing the door to lock. LEVI fixed it all with new parts and WOULD NOT CHARGE ME even though it was NOT a repair necessary to any of his previous work. LEVI just said "Oh write a good YELP Review for us," and laughed. There is only one word about Buffum's Safe & Locksmith that covers everything which is "outstanding". Long story cut short. Had problem with 30 year old lock on front door. Had to have it repaired due to real estate agents coming the next day to see our home which was going on the market that week. Two other locksmiths could not repair it. I had a problem with my mailbox lock jamming. Called Buffum's Safe and Lock and they gave me a one hour window in which the locksmith would come and repair or replace the lock. The locksmith never showed during the appointed time and when I called to ask about the "no show", whomever answered was very abrupt and extremely rude. There are two problems here. First of all, you should not give a one hour appointment window if you are unable to fulfill that mission. Secondly, you should call when you realize you will not be able to make a scheduled appointment. I really think the person who answers the phone at Buffum's should be retrained in proper customer service. His attitude leaves much to be desired read more
