I've used Buffums Lock Shop in Camarillo since they were a shack on the 101 off ramp (late 1960's). They have always filled my needs for locks and keys. I recently needed a new lock installed to replace a front door lock that had worn out. I purchased the lock that was recommended and made arrangements for installation. I was later informed the recommended lock was not compatible and reordered the one they stated would fit in the existing holes. Later the installer informed me there were metal plates required to cover the existing holes and new holes drilled for the lock. After 3 months and over $700, I determined only one person had experience on lock replacement. The other employees can cut keys and not sure what else. Time for me to move on and find a better lock shop. read more

I learned about Buffum's from a friend after lamenting about a broken front door latch. I called and described my problem, which the dispatcher described as an easy fix and I made an appointment. The technician came on the appointed date and during the time range. He literally fixed my door latch in 5 mins. I recalled that I wanted to reduce my locks to one key and just like that the technician proceeded to rekey 4 locks, which took less than an hour. As far as the technician ( Santiago) he was awesome...knew what he was doing, efficient and was very happy with the end result. Lastly, it cost less than $250...for a new latch mechanism and 4 ( unplanned ) re-keys. I don't often need a locksmith but I won't hesitate to contact Buffum's again or recommend them. read more

My dad and I recently lost everything in the mountain fire last week. We lost our entire home and every vehicle we owned, however, one truck was burned slightly on one side but would still start. Unfortunately , we lost all our keys as well. I reached out to Buffums in the middle of the night and explained my situation. I purchased some key FOBS from a reputable online shop that I've purchased before which worked great. I attempted to go to a Locksmith that programmed my first set no problem. This time they couldn't program my FOBS and stated you need to go to the dealership (mind you it's a 2002) I said okay thanks. I contacted Buffum's with my situation and they verified they can do it but will not guarantee the FOBS (understandable). I called Buffum's Locksmith for my code entry doors. I had a very good sense from my technician. He not only installed the locks, he explained how to change the codes. He told me what hardware to hang on to and why it's hard to change the battery and get it reinstalled. I now call Buffum's even to change my batteries. My installations were tough because I wanted them on security doors that did not have a flat surface. Then the door handle wouldn't fit with the coded handle. I brought in to the store to have a hitch lock removed from a hitch and to purchase replacement keys for the lock as I misplaced the original keys. I was checked in by a young man that was busy on his personal phone and stated he was to busy to look at my lock then. This was a Friday afternoon around 2pm. He said he would need to look it up the next day which was Saturday and that it would be done for sure by the end of the day on Saturday and he would call me. Saturday came and went no call. So on Monday I returned to the store around 1pm and the hitch is still on the workbench not completed. Allen proceeded to tell me it would cost $65.00 to make new keys and they would not be able to take care of it for another 2-3 days as they would need to look it up on the computer. "The comment was made to just go buy another lock at harbour freight that would save me a bunch of money" The lock at harbour freight would not be the same one but it would be cheaper. It was obvious to me that they did not want to fix my lock. I took the hitch and lock to another store and it was fixed in less that five minutes. The reason that they did not want to fix it was they do not know how to look at the mechanism of the lock. It was a combination screw and post secure lock. They gave terrible service and I was trying to keep my business in Camarillo where I live but this is not the place to provide customer service. Fantastic experience! I walked into Buffums with a broken safe and no appointment. The 2 guys (one of them is the owner) jumped right in to fix the lock. I have always felt that Locksmiths were gougers when you were locked out of your house. Not this time! Scott (the owners son) just left my home. He was on time and got us back in the house quickly. Scott really knows his stuff. He had to drive from Simi where he lives, to Camarillo to get the company truck, than back to my place at 11:30 at night.......Wow. He was here for about an hour and a half. He charged only what he quoted on the phone. It was so reasonable I had to give him a $20.00 tip. I would and will recommend Buffums as often as I can.
