It's a sidewinder/laser cut/inverted key, which apparently has only been around in various iterations for 40 years? Then I need multiple copies of keys and that angers him even more. Day 2 I come back (he was out of a key I needed) with no other customers in the store, and I ask him if he can stamp 1 LETTER on these keys to be able to identify them and he grunts that he doesn't have time to do that. So yesterday the key for my motorcycle broke. It did not leave a piece in the ignition but I did not have a spare. Bike towed home. Called around the locksmiths in Simi Valley and no one could help him. Called the dealer and their response was to change the ignition and all locks. EXPENSIVE. Called A-1 and they said they could make a key. He ordered the blank key and was at my house the next morning. 45 minutes later I had a working key and a spare. I called before going there and the guy sounds unhelpful and impatient. So I decided to give a visit and even worst. A middle eastern guy does not want to duplicate my car keys for two pairs coz he will do only one which doesn't make sense. I ask him why and he told me a lot of bullshit. He even ask why I need 3 keys? He said I have to go to the dealer for the other one and he sound sarcastic and mean. I went to other place and they did it. First off, I took my key blank to the local True Value, since the key I needed copied was bent, they suggested I take the key blank to A1. I love local businesses, they have customer service. I drove to A1, brought in the bent key and the key blank and explained that it only worked one way on my motorcycle. The guy looked at it, and went to work making the new key. 2 minutes later he hands them both to me and says here you go. No charge. Really? I brought a 5-pin cylinder lock in from my car to A-1 so they could re-key it to match the rest of the vehicle. Very simple job and the locksmith didn't even have to come out from behind his counter... The locksmith said he could do it and did not give me an estimate or quote for the job. He literally spent 10 minutes on it while I waited and returned the lock to me. He then asked for $75... I couldn't believe my ears. $75 for 10 minutes of work? My doctor charges less and at least she's courteous when she asks me to bend over... Needless to say, I won't be back. A true professional will always give you a quote for the work first, especially if it will be very expensive. If you do feel compelled to do business here, always insist on a full estimate up front and shop around. read more
