Update 6-16-21: I had a buddy of mine by a very similar safe and he had a great experience so I thought I would buy mine from the same place. I quickly placed my order, they took the money and then proceeded to tell me it would take 4 to 5 months To receive my safe. However, they were nice enough to take my money as a free loan for five months without giving me anything in return. When I brought up that this is not legal they told me to look at their website. I explain to them that when they signed a merchant card agreement with their credit card provider they were instructed to only take the money after they plan on shipping it. This company is very shady. After months of 9 weeks of holding ALL of my money they issued a full refund for an item they never shipped. read more

I have a Sun Welding Cavalry Series safe (72"x36"). The door frame is only tack welded together, the locking bolts are tack welded, the frame has large square holes on both ends on the bottom frame, the material the door is frame and inter works look to be scrap metal and floor sweepings. I purchased my first Sun Welding safe used from a local gun dealer about twenty years ago. I thought it was a fair price at the time. It is a high gloss black with gold pin-stripping tumbler mechanical combo dial 20''x20"x48" in size. I love that safe to the point that I fought for it in the divorce. Then I decided to purchase another in 2023. I did some research first and ended up at Sun welding Safes again I think their beauty and quality is head and shoulders above the rest. I contacted Christine H. after a bit of back and forth, I customized and ordered my new safe as well as found out information about my now twenty five plus year old one. I sent a credit card to put down a 50% deposit and yes it took a bit of time (3 months) to receive, as made to my specifications. I saved the freight costs by taking the morning off to go and pick up my safe. Met the owner and learned about the quality and strength of the safes security on some interesting display safes that a criminal tried to get into and one that was in a fire. The owners crew loaded my safe into my truck I paid the balance due and was on my way. So back in 2012 I bought my first real safe as you can see in my prior review. I purchased a S34 back then. I still have the scout and love it! I did add a motion sensitive led light set up in it, big plus! With that being said as my life changed and needs changed I needed a bigger and badder safe. So I opted to go with a Sun Welding P4028T! I did not want to deviate from Sun Welding because of how they took care of me before. And the quality of my scout I believe second to none. So, I was emailing back and forth with Christine with different quotes and models, I was trying to negotiate the best possible price I could (just bought a new home my budget very tight) but after some comparisons I was swayed for big and bad! What shows my trust and confidence in the team and family at Sun Welding is, I decided that the deal on the P4028T was something I could not pass up.. What I did was send my wife with the truck to look at the safe and if she was let's say uber happy with the quality it would be a done deal. I was way excited when she text me how nice it was. I had the confidence that even sight unseen that I was going to get a safe that was worth its weight in gold. When I got home and saw what I got I turned in to a little kid! This safe is just pure awesomeness a 1000 pounds of pure American quality, and craftsmanship that I am proud to have spent my hard earned money on. The exterior color is exactly what I would have picked (matches my Harley) the interior diamond beige is way nicer then I thought (my scout has gray) and the size well Let's say when you see numbers 72-40-28 you really don't grasp the pure size and mass something is. I would still say that if you want, need, desire a new safe weather an up grade or your first or additional safe by all means shop around, check out other big name brands you will see cheap made composite doors thin steel bodies and most likely built over seas. What you get for your money at Sun Welding is..... real American built safe that can be customized any way you want or just bought off the floor (like I did twice) by Americans! You also get a quality real steel safe with superb welds done by real craftsmanship! Outstanding! We have wanted one of Sun Welding's safes for years. Now that every season is "fire season" in California, it has become more of a necessity. The cool thing is that I live close to the manufacturing warehouse and got to witness the building of the safe in it's many stages, from sheet metal to finished product. The safe is far superior in every way, than any that we have looked at prior to our choice. The quality is outstanding. And.... It is beautiful and looks great in our home. I was referred to them by a friend who has a much bigger safe than me and loves it. I've had mine 6 months and it's a very small model. Purchase was fun and delivery was really smooth. The safe is made in the USA. It's a great safe at a great price. I considered buying a cheaper one from Amazon, but Sun Welding is local so I got to go check the place out. If you're in SoCal drop in and see a bunch of hard working people making really nice safes. Plus they have a small showroom which is where I found mine, so I didn't have to wait for them to build it from scratch. I'm really happy with this purchase. I almost made the mistake of buying a cheap Chinese made Costco safe, but then visited Sun Welding. For just a little bit more than what I would have spent on a foreign made safe, I was able to get a bigger and MUCH higher quality safe. I received my Scout safe today and it came out amazing! This is my second safe that I have purchased from Sun Welding and their craftsman ship is slim to none. I am a very picky person (customer) and I always have the mentality "you get what you pay for" they aren't the cheapest, however they sure are made great and heck the reason why you're purchasing a safe is to keep your valuables that are going inside the safe protected. The safes are all custom made and fully customizable. I have looked at many other safes and they just look so "manufactured" and not great quality. Everytime I show someone my safe their reaction is "Wow, how much did that safe cost it looks really nice" and when I tell them they're shocked because they think it would have been a lot more with the gloss paint, interior walls and shelves makes it look outstanding! I recently purchased a P5028T safe from Sun Welding Safe Co and wanted to offer a review. When i began looking for a safe I was looking at cheap box store models, but was not satisfied with their cheap construction or the fact that they were all made in China. I then visited a Liberty dealer and was almost set to pull the trigger on a Liberty Franklin. After doing some more online research, I discovered Sun Welding. I was impressed with the fact they are a smaller, family owned company and most importantly made in the USA. Also, compare the steel thickness of Liberty vs sun welding, the Sun Welding door is sold 1/4 " plate vs a composite lighter gage door on the Liberty. The sun welding safe also has thicker walls than a Liberty, and the price for a heavier, better built Sun Welding safe is less than you'd expect. After researching their models I settled on the P5028T, which was bigger than I initially was looking for, but the rule in safes is always go bigger than you think you need. I also was spending more money than I had initially planned on, but justified the cost on the fact this is probably the last safe ill need in my lifetime. I like Sun Welding because they offer a ton of options and every safe is made to order. The options I settled on were the following: right hand hinges, 90 minute fire protection, cloth finished interior, led motion lights inside, digital securam lock, 5 spoke locking handle, ez/combo interior layout, and gloss ivory paint. I also had sun welding make an extra small shelf for inside and added a 110v power pack inside. The safe took about 10 weeks to arrive. I had 4 friends help get it into my walk in basement as it weighs nearly 1400lbs. The safe construction is great. The paint finish looks awesome as does the overall appearance. I am much more impressed with this safe than any of the Liberty safes i had looked at. I was a little leary about spending so much on a safe sight-unseen, and i couldnt find a ton of reviews online, so i hope this helps you. If you are on the fence dont hesitate to get a sun welding safe, you wont be disappointed. read more

First off they have 5 stars, because 2 of their 3 reviews are negative but have been "filtered". Read the "filtered" reviews before thinking it's a 5 star business. I was given a quote for a safe after calling and asking questions about their different models. It was a door from a cavalry safe, and the body from a pony express. The cavalry door has 14 locking bolts, and the pony express only has 11 so I am not 100% sure how those extra 3 bolts work on the body of an 11 bolt safe.. Either way, after getting the quote she told me since they have the parts it would be a couple weeks to install a lock and paint it the color of my choice. I called today to make sure the price was the same and was going to make the trip down to pay a deposit. I talked to a different lady today and was given a price just shy of $600 MORE. I asked to speak with the person I talked to yesterday, and she told me she never quoted me that price, and she has no idea where I got that number from. I try to stay with local businesses, but it seems like none of them care about the customer anymore. I thought the little guys had more time to care for their customers, and that's why I try to support them but I don't appreciate this. Or maybe their terrible customer service is the reason they haven't outgrown being a small local business..... Go somewhere else... ANYWHERE else, and stay far away from this place. I ordered a safe and while the customer service rep was polite enough, she was not very responsive to my emails and kept giving me unrealistic delivery times. I understand that the safes are custom made but every time I requested an ETA, I was told, "next week or the end of the month or some other time." When that time came and passed, there was no email or call explaining to me that there was a delay. I ordered on/around September 12, was told on October 15 that it would be done next week, and it was not until December 4 that I finally informed them that if they could not deliver, to cancel my order. Well, that day, my safe was miraculously finished and a tracking number was sent to me. I won't even go into the ineptitude of the shipping company that Sun uses. I've been waiting two days now for the safe to arrive and have had to take two days off from work to be home for delivery and it's still not here. I only hope the safe is up to my expectations. Overall, my experience with Sun Welding is not very good. New edits to add: I drafted the post awhile ago but forgot to actually post it. Anyways I'm giving them two stars now since the safe itself is high quality and quite nice. Delivery however was problematic since the movers refused to even push the thing into my garage and wanted to leave it on the street. The distance was about ten feet from the sidewalk to my garage on totally flat ground. When I ordered, Sun Welding assured me (just like they assured me about delivery dates) that it would not be a problem if I asked the movers nicely but...it turned out they were "not insured" to off load from the truck to my garage. Apparently, Sun Welding neglected to tell me that I should have hired a separate moving company just to move the safe into my house...on the same level...just ten feet. Ridiculous. read more

When It came time to upgrade, I started doing some research and found that Sun Welding still offers superior quality at a reasonable price. Bought a Sun Welding Safe off the floor at a gun show 2 months ago. the safe was called the pony express model. $950. i looked at the brochure talked to the sales people and the safe looked good and had a decent fire rating. they helped me put it in my truck and home i went. i picked up one of the shelf's that is cut to hold the rifle barrel, it broke in my hand, was made out of cheap press board. fixed that with a metal plate and 4 screws. Today i was looking at other safes online, and learned about metal thickness and seen some safes that had been broken into. you can go to the you-tube video and watch a great teaching on what i should have known before i bought this safe! copy and past this link http://youtu.be/ltK-bDbADa8 i looked over their website trying to find out what the specs were on my safe Come to find out the safe looks like a Pony express model from the out side,(said pony express on front of safe had 3 prong spin handle) but according to the model # in side the safe, i have a scout model safe. I then decided to talk to a person at Sun welding on the chat line. which type of safe i have, they said i have a scout, and it does not matter what the logo says on the outside, then they kept trying to push the point that i signed for the order and i have a scout, i asked them why would they name it a pony express if it is a scout safe? this would make a customer believe they were getting a higher quality safe then what was actuality the case! if you decide to buy from this company, make sure you spec out and confirm that you are getting the proper safe, Sun Welding's integrity and quality of product is in question here. I am not saying that the safe is of poor quality, and i am for the most part happy with the safe, i just wanted to know the actual specs of the safe and the website is unclear on what safe i have! I have to say these guys are awesome. They actually make the safe right there. So they are USA made which was important to us. We were able to pick out the color and type of safe we wanted. If i could give this business negative stars i would. I purchased my safe less than a year ago based on some recommendations from friends and family. Everything from delivery to troubleshooting was a joke. The girls that work in the office are so rude and unhelpful.The safe is not bad quality but this company is so poorly run and has the worst customer service i have ever dealt with. These safes aren't cheap either and you would think that when you spend good money you would have a company that would be helpful. STAY AWAY FROM SUN WELDING!!
