Worst food ever. Fire the cook. Breakfast food should not be that hard. I ordered sirloin medium rare. What I got was steak that was cooked, then in the oven, then in the microwave. No juice whatsoever and well done. Husband ordered over easy eggs, got scrambled. The ham was so dry. He didn't eat any of his food. We waited over 30 minutes for the inedible food! Our visit to this restaurant was an experience in terrible food and questionable cleanliness. Everyone in our party were disappointed in how the restaurant has deteriorated since our last visit. The food should have never been brought to our table. Several of us could not force ourselves to eat it for fear of it being contaminated. Even the tables were not clean. Went for the all you can eat Walleye fish fry tonight. I love fish but don't get it very often because most locals don't have very good fish. Coleslaw was delicious, fries were crisp and tasty, but the Walleye was the star of the plate. Their tartar sauce is some of the best I have ever had. Went to a second round of fish to top off the meal. Heck they could skip the fries and slaw, and just bring me a platter piled high with the Walleye and I'd be in fisherman's euphoria, but all you can eat does the trick. Buffalo Jack's is a great cross between a "hole-in-the-wall" bar & eclectic restaurant. The game meats are my favorite and the turtle soup is some of the best I have ever had! Elk, bison, alligator, venison are all really good and fresh. The bison steaks are great and my parents love both the walleye and the pork tenderloin. The burgers, fries and onion straws are all great bar food and the beer selection is both local and draught oriented. A local place, carry out works great but don't lose out on the ambience of trophy animals and entertaining bar signs. This is a small town bar with history and guts on its side. Too bad I live 150 miles away or I would eat here every night, but Indy could really use a place like this! We used to have the Loon Lake Lodge, but alas that closed years ago! My husband and I ate there on 6/17/23, we ordered the 3 piece fish dinner. It was not good at all. The fish was so thin it was almost non-existence and the breading was very hard and crusty. I finally got the server's attention and showed her what we got, she said she would talk to the manager. We waited over 20 min. and no one came, I finally got up and went to a person who was wrapping silverware and asked her if she could help us, she said someone would be with us soon. Another 5 min. went by and a person came out and handed us a plate with the same 3 scrimpy plate of fish as the first. They forgot our salad and when it was brought out it had the wrong dressing even after stating a second time the dressing I wanted. The waitress never came back at all to see if we had any needs or how the food was, I see why! I have gotten bad food and service here before but thought I would try again. This was our second time dining here. After the first time, I would have given it 4 stars. This visit warranted only two, so I averaged it and decided to give 3 stars. The menu is huge, but they were out of a lot of items. Perhaps this is due to a supply chain issue, I'm not entirely sure.. Two of us ordered prime rib but were given steaks. Neither of us said anything because we didn't really care. The fried appetizers were served on plates without a liner, causing them to be somewhat greasy and the serving size was frugal at best. My husband loved his walleye, which was "all you can eat" and he came away completely satisfied. The other two in our party got bison burgers... and had mixed reviews. Service was slow, but there were only two servers, and in this day and age, that's not uncommon, so I don't want to ding them on that. Drinks and beer were quite reasonably priced. In the end 4 out 5 of us have decided to go back in a few months and give them another chance, especially since our first visit was considerably different than our most recent visit. read more

We went for Sweetest Day - my husband ordered a buffalo sirloin medium - came out so well done it could have been shoe leather. My burger was fried to a crisp (bun included) - manager came over and cleared our 1/4 to 1/2 eaten dinner and never asked anything - our waitress was new and very friendly - we told her about our food and she said she would have to tell the manager, which she did - she said the kitchen staff wouldn't listen to her - manager never said a word to us - we won't be back - our poor waitress was new and didn't even know how to pour beer from a keg - we had to tell her how to! It is supposed to be under new management but this young kid they have now is not manager material. Hope they get it back to the way it used to be years ago! read more

The prices here are quite good, but if you order the unique food (alligator, buffalo sirloin, etc) it will be more than just a burger. A meal can cost you $5 or $25 depending on what you order. The food tastes great and the portions are fairly large. They even have a buffalo (bison) statue outside and a stuffed buffalo (bison) inside. read more

We ate here last night and it was not good. We each ordered New York strip steaks medium. They looked like sirloin steaks, were overcooked and very tough! I sent mine back and when it finally came, my husband was finished. That did not correct the toughness or the cut of meat. One waitress was covering everything including bartender. She said she would "comp" my meal but she took a big 2 dollars off. We paid $45 for the worst steak dinner ever! We won't go back. read more

Food is sub par , place isn't well kept. Service is ok at best. When I was a kid this was the place to go in town but now I'm 39 and it just isn't the same. This place is so unique! I have visited a few times, as my grandmother lives a few blocks away and there are not a lot of restaurants in the area (it IS in a village, after all). I can't think of many places in Ohio where you can order alligator, elk, bison, and a large variety of fish! The walleye comes from Lake Erie, and they have a great all-you-can-eat special with fries. The prices here for a meal are appropriate for what they offer, and you can get a 16oz prime rib with two sides for around $16. WOW! Also, they have great complimentary brown bread with a honey butter that is borderline addictive. We last came here on a Friday night and they were SLAMMED. It's not a huge place, but they do a lot of business on the weekends, so be prepared. Take a few minutes to check out the cool stuffed bison and stuffed polar bear (seriously, it's like 10 feet tall). The decor is a bit dated/shabby, but it definitely works in that 'restaurant off the old dusty trail' kind of way. If for some reason you're in the area, come eat dinner here! After church on Sunday, my inlaws took me to Buffalo Jack's for lunch. The restaurant is divided into three areas: the bar area, the main restaurant, and then a room that can be used for groups or private parties. Our waitress Faye was really nice and friendly, although she did get overwhelmed when a large party came in half way through our meal. I had a mimosa with my lunch...while it was large, I couldn't taste any champagne in it. I think they skimped on the champagne and gave me more OJ. I prefer mimosas where it's mostly champagne with a splash of OJ. My BLT sandwich was nice, but a tad on the thin side - it could have used some thicker bacon to beef it up a bit. However, I did appreciate the crispiness of the bacon and the freshness of the lettuce and tomato. The fries were really good and not overly salty. My mother-in-law and brother-in-law enjoyed their walleye sandwiches and my father-in-law enjoyed the breakfast he ordered, although I'm not sure he was a huge fan of the bloody mary. Prices are pretty cheap - my mimosa, sandwich and fries came to $8 total. You definitely can't beat prices like that. Most of the customers at Buffalo Jack's seemed to be regulars. It's not a place I would venture out of the way for, but for a cheap, casual breakfast or lunch, it doesn't seem like a bad option. read more

It's not the best, place but if you want a quick bite, it's a lot of bar food. And they do have buffalo burgers and rattle snake, alligator appetizers that are kinda expensive for the amount. Thought we would try it because we had entertainment coupon. I ordered medium sirloin,came out raw to rare. Wife ordered full slab ribs. They sent out 1/2 slab which was not hot at all. Almost cold. Dinner May 30 I really hope the owners/management reads this review. Haven't been to Buffalo Jacks in over 10 years. In the late 80's through mid 90s ate there at least once every 3 months. And sporadically thereafter after I moved out of state. Read recent reviews and wanted to see if what I was reading was correct. Sadly, this restaurant is not what I remember it to be. Great menu - unique items that you don't see in most restaurants. Great location in a small town. Locally owned and employs locals - all of which I love. By the way - the wait staff was extremely friendly, kind and went out of their way to be friendly and smile! But the food was no where near where it should be - the gravy on the hot shot prime rib was awful - from a jar or knorr packet? The prime rib meat on the hot shot was cold - was the microwave broke? The mashed potatoes were inedible - instant? The French Fries tasted like they were fried in the same grease as the fish and had no salt and were nearly undercooked. The Fried Chicken had no seasoning at all, repeat nothing - no salt, no pepper no anything - bland as can be and tasted a bit like fish - do you use same grease? Best part of meal was the bread and honey butter. Everyone eating there was over 65 and I am sure as these folks age out of restaurant eating, you will lose those folks - leaving only locals who have no where else to go. Please update your menu and bring in some fresh ingredients, fresh preparation and better cooking methods. BUFFALO JACK'S can be that place that draws folks from 100s of miles away, but not as it is now. No no no, not worth your money, time, or digestive health. Our experience was barely worth the one star I have to give it. Live in Columbus buy have been wanting to try it for years so we went. We ordered the loaded fries which I wish they'd just call it chili cheese fries because that's all it was..."loaded" implies more than that but whatever. We also ordered the alligator app sampler because I've always wanted to try it and you don't get many opportunities in OH. It was fried gator chunks which were surprisingly tender, it was served with honey mustard and ranch...good with the mustard. My husband ordered the all you can eat Walleye because we're crazy about it ever since having a friend of ours fry us up some fresh caught Lake Erie Walleye...but what they brough out to him was VERY lacking...just all around. The color on the batter was very pale and unappealing, half of the pieces were cold and half were warm. He took a couple bites and doubted the doneness of the fish so he was done and filled up on the bread. I got the fried catfish, not horrible but nothing to write home about. Now here was the kicker of the whole meal...our 8yo ordered chicken tenders and French fries like she always does but this time when she bit into the all too familiar food she turned it toward us and asked "is it supposed to look like this??" Raw. R-A-W!!! Not slightly pink like it was almost fully cooked but completely uncooked fleshy chicken pink!!! He freaked out and tried to get someone's attention, my stomach dropped as I started googling the odds of getting sick when consuming raw chicken. The waitress we flagged down was drunk...high...braindead...couldn't quite tell but something was going on, anyways, we showed her the chicken tender and she didn't know what it was so we explained and she took it grossed out back to the kitchen. Our waitress came out and keeping with her worthless nature apologized and told us how she had gotten food poisoning the day before and her manager was a huge bitch about her calling off. The head cook came out and apologized profusely about what his new cook let leave the kitchen and personally made her the replacement cheeseburger she asked for when he said he'd make her whatever she wanted. My husband and I have been there twice in the past six months. We went there for fish on Friday it was horrible very greasy mostly breading, and it was cold. We asked waitress for more fish, didn't see her for 10 min. Did not get refills on drinks had to ask for our bill. Waitress was to busy hanging at the bar flirting. We will never go there again. The pancakes are some the biggest ones that I've ever seen, but weren't anything to special besides how huge they were. Prices were about average. My husband and I eat here often, usually on Sunday mornings after church. Now we typically don't order the fancy game fare they're famous for. But the food is quite good. The service is typically excellent, and I don't think that's bc we're regulars. I suggest any of the Walleye or Catfish meals. The breakfasts are great too! The staff was slow to seat us, but waitress was nice and prompt. The Buffalo Steak was good and so were the onion rings and dirty rice. The salad was what would be expected from a low end old restaurant. The bread and butter were awesome. The hint of honey in the butter will get me every time. My wife said the cat fish was good. She would have liked it a touch crisper. She also said the carrots were straight out of a can. They need to learn to do something better with them or remove them from the menu.
