a hand holding a piece of food

My husband and I ate there on 6/17/23, we ordered the 3 piece fish dinner. It was not good at all. The fish was so thin it was almost non-existence and the breading was very hard and crusty. I finally got the server's attention and showed her what we got, she said she would talk to the manager. We waited over 20 min. and no one came, I finally got up and went to a person who was wrapping silverware and asked her if she could help us, she said someone would be with us soon. Another 5 min. went by and a person came out and handed us a plate with the same 3 scrimpy plate of fish as the first. They forgot our salad and when it was brought out it had the wrong dressing even after stating a second time the dressing I wanted. The waitress never came back at all to see if we had any needs or how the food was, I see why! I have gotten bad food and service here before but thought I would try again. We will not be back!!

The prices here are quite good, but if you order the unique food (alligator, buffalo sirloin, etc) it will be more than just a burger. A meal can cost you $5 or $25 depending on what you order. The food tastes great and the portions are fairly large. They even have a buffalo (bison) statue outside and a stuffed buffalo (bison) inside.

We had all you can eat walleye. Food was great, service was a little slow but the food made up for it.

The food and service was very good this evening and it appears the support of the customers is helping.

Coleslaw was delicious, fries were crisp and tasty, but the Walleye was the star of the plate.

Then there I met the barmaid..... who was so bubbly and pretty and no I didn't say that because her shirt said that.(LOL) She showed me the special of the day both food and drink. In my last review of this place, I was wildly unhappy with the engineering of the restrooms because of its implications for child safety. They have gone to very strong lengths to substantially, engage and resolve all of my issues. I would not be afraid at all that if my kids went into the bathroom, some stranger would have access to them that they shouldn't. This is a fun little place with some great background music. It's like a brew pub meets a diner with lots of table tables. The staff is friendly and engaging. If you're gonna eat here, the pork sandwich is pretty good. My sweetie liked her cheesesteak. Also, they had a pretty yummy stout on tap as well - something fluffy stay puff. My buddy Nick really enjoyed the Irish red. Says it's very yummy.

Gotta own that, but holy heck, $20.00 for a plate of chips with some sauce and veggies. And when the nachos first came out, had to send them back. Barely any queso on top and the "queso" and pork were cold. That was after waiting 25 minutes for them. When they came back out, they were warmer, but the nachos were gross. Almost no flavor. The pork tasted boiled and had no seasoning. Tried to eat the nachos but couldn't. Left almost a whole plate load. The one beer I had was good, but the price tag for two beers and late/cold/bland nachos that I couldn't eat came out to $42.60 after a tip. No thanks.

Unfortunately, the larger dining room on the other side is the complete opposite--sterile, plain, and uninspired. It could really benefit from a decorator who could bring it in line with the vibe of the bar and outdoor areas. 17 West positions itself as the nicest (and essentially only upscale) restaurant in the New Bremen area, but it falls short of that goal. I ordered the Spicy Chicken Salad sandwich with mashed potatoes. What arrived was a croissant that looked like it came straight from the IGA bakery, topped with a single sad leaf of lettuce and a thin, pale tomato slice. The chicken salad was scooped with what appeared to be an ice cream scoop and simply plopped onto the bread. The result was a bland sandwich with almost no spice or flavor. The mashed potatoes were presented the same way--scooped and unappealing. Overall, the presentation was cafeteria-level at best, and I've had better sandwiches in hospital cafeterias. My wife ordered the Firecracker Chicken. Her side salad was tiny and unremarkable, and while the chicken leg itself tasted decent, it was still just a sauced chicken leg. At $22, it felt significantly overpriced. 17 West likely wouldn't survive in a larger city with real competition. In the New Bremen area, however, it benefits from having very little rivalry, which allows it to stay in business despite the clear mismatch between its prices and the quality and presentation of the food.
