Normally a delicious meal out of Buena Mesa. We normally do the steak medium rare and it's 100% good. Today 8/24 @830p not only did they clearly forget we ordered a steak but the one we got was VERY RARE. Made the waitress aware and she took it back to cook, got the steak back and minimal cooking was done and therefor I complained again and just received an apology. I left the rare steak on the table and was still charged for my plate. In addition I was asked if I wanted a box to take my un cooked steak home. read more

Excellent all around experience 5 golden stars to my new favorite mariscos restaurant in the LA area!!! Food, ambience, service and overall experience it was 5 star. We were there to watch the soccer game México vs USA. It was an awesome game and time (4 hours) spent at Buena Mesa!! They have several large tv's including a humongous one above the kitchen nook. The waitresses were very attentive, food brought out rather quickly. They were constantly checking up on us, we had a large party of 9 table. We had many plates over the 4 hours we spent there and we didn't have a plate we didn't LOVE! Well just one, the flan was hard and very eggy. When the waitress came back she asked if my sister didn't like it since it was barely touched. She explained how she felt about it and the waitress comes back a few minutes later. Says the chef tried it and agreed; they were going to throw them out and the new ones were already in the oven. She said she'd refund us the flan and give her another one from the new batch. This is the kind of service that should be offered at every restaurant. Other than that, everything was cooked to perfection and came out fairly quickly. We had guacamole, sashimi variety plate which included tuna, shrimp and scallops in a special aguachile style sauce. Prepared oysters, Torre de mariscos, pescado zarandeado, a plate with bacon wrapped shrimp and an amazingly delicious and tender grilled octopus that melted in my mouth. We had several other appetizers and a few buckets of beer to enjoy the game. Highly recommend this restaurant, next time we go back I want to try the steaks which is also their specialty! read more

Staff isn't the best when it comes to asking about the food. Didn't really like my option and took one bite. When politely asked for a menu for a new item immediately gave me attitude. I couldn't return the food so I took it home. THEY GAVE ALCOHOL TO LITTLE KIDS!!!!! If I could give a lower score I would. We sat down and ordered our drinks and we asked for a "JAMAICA" for the kids. The wait staff brought it and the kids being kids, each one of them took a few big sips. They looked at us and said it tasted weird, I then tried it to see if it had too much sugar or it was watered down. Low and behold it was neither of that it tasted like ALCOHOL. I passed the drink to my wife and didn't say anything about how it tasted and sure enough, she tasted alcohol as well. We brought the drink to the attention of the wait staff and they apologized for the mistake. We were fuming, how badly was the wait staff trained that they didn't know which pre-made drinks had alcohol? I mean come on, how can you get that wrong?!!!!! We left and will never come back again. Been here before and food was always great. Ordered during pandemic to go and had a few things missing, no biggie. But the reason for this review is we just went for Memorial Day and my kids ordered a botana mix, I had camarones al mojo de ajo, got chicken nuggets for my little one and then hubby ordered some other tacos. Well. Following day, both kids that ate the botana mix woke up extremely sick! Diarrhea and throwing up. Husband had a couple scallops from the mix and got sick on Wednesday and so did my 7yr old that had the chicken nuggets. I ended up getting sick on Friday 6/4/21 and also have the same symptoms. I'm 7 months pregnant and feeling miserable. My whole family got Norovirus here. I will never visit this establishment again. read more

The boyfriend and I wanted to get something to eat and we were craving a highly rated and recommended steakhouse by all of you, my yelp familia. I was surprised to find out that this place was just around the way. I had a busy day at work so I thought "why not treat myself to a nice tasty meal?" The place is in the south gate outdoor shopping mall next to Sam's. It sits within the walls that has rotated in and out of different eating establishments. Call me superstitious, but if a place rotates in and out of underperforming eateries in a high traffic area, stay away business owners. To be completely fair, our visit wasn't ideal. We arrived and didn't realize that this place served up primarily Mexican seafood which falls at the bottom of my boyfriend's food wish list and on top of his gag list. There is about 5% of the menu that isn't seafood, but it wasn't enough to entice my boyfriend Royale. His hangry demeanor forced me to make this "dine in" experience a "take out" experience. I couldn't take in the experience as a typical patron , but one that had to figure out how to feed his famished boyfriend immediately. The place feels very sports bar- like with large flat screens adorning the walls. The place was decently packed which gave me the reassurance that the place was worth the try. The immediate perception was that they need more help. When you have one waitress struggling and huffing and puffing to keep up with all his or her tables, it's time for a job fair to staff up. Though our waitress was nice, she was obviously stretched very thin. She was definitely trying, but there is only so much you can do when you are one person. The service was a bit slow and we were hoping for more attention, but having one waitress for the entire restaurant is a bit ambitious. Mr Business owner, spend the extra 15 bucks an hour, your return on your investment... will be there... I promise. "A" for effort .."D" for execution. The food we took home was decent and served well. I had the rib eye and the scallops and tuna appetizer tower with avocado. It was extremely tasty. The rib eye was cooked to perfection. I asked for a side salad. Though drenched with Italian dressing, it was quite good. They have some really cool deals on yelp. First off, patrons get 10% off when you check in... also, there is a deal where you can purchase a 50 dollar voucher for 30 bucks. So worth it! You can purchase it on the yelp app right there and then. I would love to try this place without the hangry boyfriend in tow.. but my rating is based on this specific visit. I visited Buena Mesa Last summer and food was good and we also had a nice waitress. I was pleased with the service. However this past Friday i took my Family that was visiting from out of town and boy...what a disappointment. The restaurant was dirty and rundown. The food was sloppy, bland and the service was bad. The pictures don't do the flavors justice. The food tastes even better than the pictures. This is a long overdue review of my favorite seafood and steak restaurant. By now, I've had the entire menu several times over. I'm a seafood junkie. I'm picky about consistency, service and fresh quality ingredients--all of which are a staple here. My favorites: aguachiles negros (to die for), camarones roca, the famous Torre, a michelada and everything else on the menu. Tomahawk is grilled to absolute perfection. The meat flavor comes through, the size is on point especially for the price. The special blue cheese sauce is very mild. I'm not a fan of blue cheese but it's a dose of love. The shrimp is cooked to perfection. Never chewy or raw but always full of flavor. The sauce is like nothing I've ever had before a salsa negra with just the right amount of spice as to not overpower the dish. The same goes for all the other dishes. The protein flavors pull through with a nice balance. I could go on forever but just see for yourself. Last thing: This is a small business run with heart and passion. It's not your typical commercialized food. The owner cares about your experience. You feel at home and the foods are amazing. That's why I keep coming back. read more
