Come during lunch and you'll see Mexican day laborers, gardeners, contractors, and people who clearly don't have time for Instagram. That's basically my Yelp Michelin star. You won't find some bald Asian Instagrammer standing outside explaining why his 3 for $38 Wagyu tacos are "an experience." At Tacos El Compita, nobody cares about Wagyu. At most, the meat is choice. Who cares? It's cooked properly, seasoned properly, and tastes better than plenty of tacos charging twice as much for the privilege of being photographed. Fair warning: this food has some fire. The salsa verde and roja both bring the heat, and the fermented onions have actual chunks of habanero hiding in them like little edible land mines. Even the rice in the burrito has some fuego. This is not Mexican food designed for people who consider black pepper "too spicy." I've had the pozole, tortas, carne asada, and my favorite: tripas. Everything has been consistently legit and hits that very specific craving where you take the first bite and immediately think, "Yep, this is what I wanted" or should I say "Yelp, this is what I wanted." I've only been to this location, although apparently there are at least three Tacos El Compita locations around Vegas. And "compita" basically means buddy or pal in Spanish. Honestly, that fits. Eating here feels less like going to a restaurant and more like showing up at your Mexican friend's house where somebody's abuela has taken over the kitchen and nobody bothered to ask what you wanted because she already knows.
