    2 Beef and Potato Empanadas

Overall: Buen Provecho serves some tasty Costa Rican food. Food: 5 Empanadas: The empanadas were stuffed with beef and potatoes. It was crispy but not oily, and the filling was flavorful. I appreciate that it didn't feel overstuffed. Service: 5 This is a casual restaurant where you order at the counter then they deliver the food to your table. Ambiance: 5 This is a small restaurant with a few tables inside, but there is also a lot of outdoor seating under shade.

Wow. I think those were the best tamales we have ever had. We got the two vegan ones: black bean jalapeno tamale in banana leaf And Mushroom- olive tapenade tamale. They were so flavorful. The masa was super fluffy. The mushroom-olive one was for some reason smaller than the black bean jalapeño, not sure if that's always the case. The mushroom olive was my fave but both absolutely delicious. The salsa was spicy which we really enjoyed. I liked the decoration inside and the misters at the covered outdoor seating were nice to have.

This place makes me want to go to Costa Rica immediately! Seriously the food is just SO incredibly flavorful and fresh and the presentation is just so beautiful. I tried the Ropa Vieja bowl ($15.95) and all the components were served warm and were just so yummy and delicious. It came with a generous portion of beans and shredded beef next to a heaping pile of warm rice. They're also came a fresh salad on the side as well as two sweet plantain pieces. I could literally eat here every day if I could! The staff seem so genuinely cheery and happy and the interior is decorated in a very lush way. Plenty of outdoor seating as well.

Finally had a Sunday morning free so that I could hit up the brunch at Buen! It did not disappoint, the food is always spectacular! I had the breakfast burrito with bacon, it also had black beans, and plantains with a side of yummy spicy salsa. It was also my partner's first time as my friend and I were always raving about it. He got the bowl with chicharron (fried pork) and it was just as delicious as I remember. We also shared a slice of rum cake that Katya was so kind as to let us sample! I also had a cold brew con leche and it was fantastic! I swear this place hits the spot every time! Strongly recommend! Also shout out to Katya for being a 2025 James Beard semi finalist. The proof is in the food! Go see for yourself!

This is a really nice little spot located at El Vado. My favorite things are the yuca fries with good flavorful and creamy dipping sauces, and the vegetarian empanadas . The rice and beans are filling and simple comfort food, good with the hot sauce. I got a passionfruit agua fresca that was also very good. They have multiple vegan tamales, which is great because most places have none that are even vegetarian. Sadly, there's something about them I just don't like. This is a great place for vegetarians, vegans, and people who eat gluten free. I like that there's indoor seating now! The patio area is also good, and expansive. I just wish I knew when they're open, as I've had bad luck multiple times going to El Vado and finding everything closed.

Fantastic spot along Historic Route 66. Cozy interior with plenty of outdoor space. Easy to navigate menu, wonderful staff, and just awesome food. I had the burrito, which was layered with beans, sweet plantains, rice, and egg, and not too spicy salsa. Loved this spot, and excited to hear they'll be adding chilaquiles to the menu!

Came in today for lunch. The restaurant is beautiful and is on the smaller end. If the restaurant is full, you will likely need to sit outside, but even in the cold this restaurant is a great type of food I haven't seen much in Albuquerque. As a Cuban-American the food here was very reminiscent of food I grew up with with the same names, with a bit different of a taste. I absolutely love and make Ropa Veija, Arroz con Pollo, and love a good flan. The food, amazing. Go, get it before this place gets packed. The Ropa Vieja and Arroz Con Pollo are very good and very flavorful. The fried plantains were amazing and the coconut flan was a nice endcap to an amazing meal. The only thing I should have done was ask for salt since it wasn't at the table. Service was quick a and good and the owner was very nice. checking on us. I can see this place being a regular stop for us or getting takeout from. If you haven't had food like this, I defiantly would recommend you go and get a sample of these amazing eats!

The food was perfect. The best fried pork I've ever had. Highly recommend their cakes as well We got the chocolate flan and leche rum cake

I found this place on a list of James beard nominees and let me tell you when you visit somewhere you've never been before I highly recommend it. The location where this cozy cafe is located is rather hip. I got there around the time it was closing so I didn't have the opportunity to sit in the restaurant or enjoy the loud music outside. I picked up the food and brought it back to my hotel. After sitting in the car for about the 30 minutes, let me tell you I was drooling. I had a feeling I was about to taste something amazing and I was ready to give myself a generous tip for delivering the meal. Boy was it good, a perfect balance of fresh, crispy flavorful and handmade. The meal to its entirety was quite satisfying and I honestly recommend you order one of everything off the menu which is basically what I did. The proprietor and employees preparing the food and servicing me were quite nice as well.

Arroz con pollo and Lapiz Sandwich - Two plates of Latin American dishes are on a table outdoors, featuring sandwiches, rice, black beans, plantains, and a side salad.

The food here was incredible! We got the arroz con pollo, lapiz sandwich as well as the choco flan and cookie butter cake. Absolutely would come back again The outdoor seating area was perfect for a Sunday afternoon lunch.

Weekend special breakfast burrito - A plate contains two tacos filled with meat, topped with cheese, and garnished with a leaf, alongside fried plantains on a gray outdoor table.

I was looking for a spot to eat that was gluten free friendly and came across Buen Provecho Albuquerque. This is in the El Vato Motel on Central. So cute! White stucco with blue accents. They have nice shaded patio seating with a fountain and misters. You order in the building and then get a number and find your own spot to sit. The wait staff is so friendly and kind. I ordered the Yucca Fries and the Pork Tamale and their strong coffee. My friend had the breakfast burrito special they have Saturday's and Sunday's. The Yucca Fries were hot, crispy and tasty! Great dipping sauces too. I came home and reheated the leftovers for dinner in the air fryer and it's like I just got them!! Great to take home. My pork tamale was SO good! It was stuffed to the gill with pork! So tasty! My coffee was divine. Had milk and sugar. My friend raved about the breakfast burrito as well and took half of it home. We loved the food. The spot is so cute and I found some other cool businesses in the same spot! Thanks for a great time! We will be back!!

Bowl Carnitas. A+ seasoned similar to Puerto Rican pernil. - A plate with rice, black beans, fried plantains, shredded meat, and a small bowl of salsa, with a side of yucca fries in a black bowl.

One immediately feels welcome in this quaint restaurant. The food is outrageously delicious and authentic. The atmosphere (fantastic music videos playing) was just right! The staff, owners I'm assuming, were attentive and so gracious. It really felt like they were pleased to host us and valued our business. It deepened my love for local restaurants and restaurateurs, which was already my preferred approach to dining out. We'll be back!!!

This place was frickin amazing! The ambiance was giving total vibes of "Pura vida". The coffee - OMG! Just see my pictures and you'll understand. The staff was just delightful!

    Are there any Gluten-Free options?

Hello Anna, 95% of our menu is gluten free. We have just 2 items that are not. The nachos and the quesadilla. Everything else is gluten free.

Does this restaurant have a pet friendly section? We will be traveling with two dogs.

The restaurant is located at El Vado Hotel in an open patio area. I would imagine the area is pet friendly.

Is this a restaurant? Or food truck? Place in a mall food court? Looks like everything is on Togo plates.

It is now a restaurant in the El Vado plaza. They also do catering. You order in the small shop and find seating in the plaza. They bring the food to you.

We walked in and started reading the menu and chatting with the man at the counter. He helped us pick out *five* vegetarian pupusas. Pretty good start! We ordered the calabacitas and cheese, the green chile and cheese, the loroco and cheese, the spinach and cheese, and the bean. Then the guy was surprised we wanted to eat there - guess you only order at the counter for to-go. We also inquired about the aguas frescas, and upon being assured that they were not that sweet, ordered a tamarindo and a melon. We grabbed a small table under the TV playing cumbia and other Salvadoran music videos. There were several other folks in the place so we got to look at some of the other offerings, including huge bowls of menudo and possibly even huger tortas. Our pupusas came fairly quickly for pupusas (some places will advise you that they can take 15-20 minutes) and came with two sides: a bowl of a very thin but flavorful salsa, and a mound of red cabbage slaw that reminded me just a bit of a pickled situation. Two of us were able to eat the 5 together, although 4 would have probably been enough. But now we've tried them all. The green chile and cheese was my favorite; the calabacitas was also good. The bean would be better with cheese; I might try to eat it with a cheesy one in the future. Also, the aguas frescas were aMAzing. Definitely the best ones that I have had in Albuquerque, and possibly the best outside of Mexico. Just a delight! The only knock on this place is that they close at 6pm every day, so if you want them for dinner you'll have to get takeout the last hour they are open. They do have several breakfast-y options though, so maybe the next time we visit (and I definitely want to go back!) we'll make it a brunch thing.

The room is pretty but overly warm and reeks of grease. And there were some additional cleanliness issues. I want to return for the food, but if the other issues aren't addressed it may be the last time. Tons of grease smoke hanging in the air (the kitchen needs more serious ventilation - I texted and warned a friend not to come, as she hates the smell of cooking grease in her hair) when we came in at the early end of lunch (the place filled up pretty well behind us - it's Tuesday). It's a nice enough room (loved the painting of Bolívar and the Venezuelan tchotchkes in the case by the door) with plenty of seating - grab and read a menu, order at the front - it prompts you for a tip (went on the heavier side even with the counter ordering because I want El Chamo Arabe to stay around) and the counterwoman (not the friendliest person, but not rude) delivers everything to your table when it's ready (which will be a minute - but you're not here for _fast_ food). The room is pleasantly decorated but overly warm and - well, there's that grease smell issue: it was bad enough that we had to change clothes after eating here. Okay, prices seem reasonable. But when the food comes, prices seem downright _good_ - these folks give you a LOT of food. We got a $5 dolmas appetizer to start (juicier than what one usually finds; quite good) which came with the grape leaf rolls sitting on a pretty tasty dressed salad. We sure didn't need it, though: our mains (a shwarma plate with gyro meat and an arepa picada with one of chicken and one of beef) were really large. Really large. And it's tasty food. Enormous salads with both $14 plates: dressed well with great, fresh romaine leaves cut just right for easy eating. I'd note with some surprise that both the shredded chicken and beef on the arepas were pretty tasty, but was surprised to find the chicken grabbed me more. There is habañero salsa (albeit in a greasy bottle) on the tables if you need piquancy (why not? we're in New Mexico), and that was great. I'm not sure that the plentiful quantity of the mustard/ketchup (or was it Russian dressing?)/mayo sauce drowning of the arepa picada salad was a good thing. It was pretty, but it got to be a bit much for my taste down toward the bottom of it all - I'd ask for it lighter next time. The lunchmeat turkey and American-type cheese slice and perfectly cooked round fried egg certainly added to the salad, and the arepas themselves were a delight. My wife liked the rice and gyro meat and salad of her shwarma plate. Here's the thing: in addition to the grease-in-the-air situation, there were some cleanliness issues. The table where we sat (it was dead when we arrived, except for some waiting DoorDash drivers) hadn't been properly wiped and there were some old rice grains on it. The bottles of habañero and other salsas on the table were grimy and needed to have been wiped. The tray on which the silverware was brought to our table was greasy - repositioning it on the table to make room for our food made me want to wash my hands. And there was a hair (not ours) in the salad under my dolmas: I didn't mention to my wife because she would have stopped eating and I also didn't bring it up with the counterperson since the small restaurant was at that time full of lunching customers who didn't need to be troubled by hearing about it. And I know mistakes happen and I was not interested in a refund or apology; things happen. But I hope El Chamo Arabe customarily pays more attention to keeping things sanitary - the food is good enough that I want to come back and see. Food - 5 Service - 3 Atmosphere - 2 (lose the grease, fix the temperature and it's a 4) Cleanliness: 2 Value - ?

I asked her for a reminder buzzer to pick up when ready, and the girl claimed she gave it to my daughter. She did not. I went back to ask for it. She had to place a call to someone in the kitchen, in a separate building for my order number to get the right number. We sat down in the communal dining area for all the other mini restaurants there and waited over 20 minutes. I had gone back to see where the take out was. Finally I saw her bring it through the door from another location outside the food court. The chicken shawarma bowl was in the tray, but instead of the beef shawarma was a chicken shawarma wrap and cold French Fries. I told her she brought me the wrong order and begrudgingly she took it back outside to where she had brought it and 20 minutes later I got it. The bowl was 1/2 yellow rice, 1/2 romaine lettuce with almost no dressing and 3 of the skinniest sliced tomatoes I have ever seen and some cooked beef, very sparingly scattered on only the rice side of the bowl with a drizzle of a nondescript white dressing. My daughter was mostly done with hers when I got mine. I also orders the fried plantain side. It was 4 pieces, equivalent of one small plantain on one side of the cardboard serving boat and some shredded mozzarella on the other side! Now that is a bizarre combination! With almost no meat on either of our shawarma bowls, it was such a huge disappointment. The girl kept rolling her eyes with her mistake and then giving me dirty looks from behind the counter. In the 35 minutes we were there, we were the only people who had placed an order. With the lack of service, and overpriced items, this place will go out of business soon at The Block, just like the overpriced Thai place in the same complex that only lasted around 2 months!

We ordered a variety of pupusas and they were all made fresh to order with creamy melted cheese oozing out as we cut into them - way more cheese than normal and very delicious. They all had different flavors based on the filling and were all delicious, but we really enjoyed the rajas (poblanos) and zucchini the most. The plantains were nice and soft and delicious and the masa in the corn tamale was amazingly soft and moist, but the crema they brought with it was not sweet at all - which didn't take away from it at all, but it said it would be sweet. The tomato soup on the side was nice and spicy and running, easily poured onto the pupusas as desired, and the cabbage was refreshing and perfect.
