First time here. SO satisfied with the food everything was delicious and the food came out quick. Will definitely be visiting the main location. Pelotero special: 10/10 the pork was juicy and tender, the sauce is amazing and the hot sauce is made in house. Great kick and the yuca fries were also nice and crispy Maduros: 100/10 crispy on the outside and soft on the inside I could've eaten 10 Arepa del patron: 8/10 the meat was juicy and the toppings were very flavorful. The arepa itself just a little dry but still good. Papelon lemonade was the star of the show and not too sweet, very well spiced and uniquely tasting with cloves and other spices. Still the best Cuban I have had, along with the arepas are to die for! Tostones cooked perfect, the garlic sauce, tomato, and the spicy arbol so much flavor!!!! This review is solely based on the sparkling lemonade I ordered! I didn't try the food. I was getting pho in the tin can alley and this place is right next to the pho place. I seen the stand alone restaurant for this cafe and wanted to try it, so once I seen it in the food court, I knew I had to at least get a beverage. They have lots of good flavors to choose from on their lemonade menu. I went with the papelon because I wasn't familiar with it and wanted to see what it was like. The lady told me it was basically their house lemonade and that it would be sweet but not overly sweet. The lemonade was really good. Tasted almost like honey or brown sugar with a hint of cinnamon vibe. It wasn't too sweet like she said but it definitely was more of a sweet flavor. Guava tree in tin can is always a fun spot to visit (I will note my favorite is the original location, but this location has longer hours). They have so many different things to choose from, my favorite is one of the Arepas. You can also do one of the combos, which is what I got on the most recent visit. The beef is so flavorful. I do wish I would've gotten an a wrap up because they're just my favorite but overall everything is still really good. We came during an odd hour, and it wasn't busy at all. Food came out really fast. The plantains are the best, I highly recommend getting one of the basket samplers on the side with both sweet and green plantains as well as the yucca fries. read more

And the chicken sandwich was dry as hell too we got there at 230 pm and the kid at the register was so confused and didn't know what I was ordering I had to show him with me pointing it out what I wanted he never gave a dam a bout customer service ! All he and the other staff was pushing us out so they could go home ! Made my first stop in at the Tin Can Alley location of this old favorite. Cubano 5/5 - This is one of the best hot sandwiches in town, hands down. If you've never had one, this is the place to get one. Yucca Fries 4/5 - A bit over-fried, but still good. Excellent dip. Fried Plantains 5/5 - Sweet, soft, delicious. Arepa Del Pero - 3/5 Shredded beef was great, but this one's better deconstructed. The gluten-free arepa doesn't taste quite right, and the ingredients were packed inside quite unevenly. "Margarita" "Lemonade" - 4/5 Delicious, but can we just call this a limeade? Papelon "Lemonade" - 5/5 A real star. Very sweet. Unrefined sugar and lemon. I'd again prefer it a bit if we called it "papelon con limon" and avoided the misleading western "lemonade" context entirely, but it's still delicious and you should get one! read more

I really love how crispy the bread was and the side of Yucca fries was delicious and a perfect pairing with the garlic aioli. The Luciano was full of delicious roasted vegetables and gave me a new understanding of how flavorful vegetables can be when in the kitchen of the right chef. Omg! I was raised in Dade and Broward Co. FL. The land of hundreds of Cuban restaurants and cafes/coffee shops. I haven't had a Cuban anywhere on earth as good as this one was. It brought my childhood in Coral Gables screaming back. The owner was there and waited on us. The sandwich was so crispy on the outside and the mojo pork, ham, cheese, mustard and pickles were a symphony of flavors. The yucca fries with the garlic aioli were banging too! The sandwich was a very nice size so the hubby and I shared. In today's economy, $15 for a sandwich and side that's shareable is a great deal. Not a crumb was left. Bravo to them. I was so looking forward to trying this location... Arrived at 6:30 on a Monday prior to trivia at Santa Fe Brewing. I ordered the Pelatone - or some such spelling. It's ropa vieja, beans, rice, 2 plantains, and 2 yucca fries + a lemonade. I ate at the Guava Tree on Central in the Summer and had the same impression -- the beans are can beans, the rice is good but flavorless. Ropa vieja - very good but VERY LITTLE ON THE PLATE. Plantaines were perfect, and the Yucca fries are nothing to rave about - flavorless. The lemonade is delicious. So this plate with tax cost me nearly $17? The counter guy apparently had no change so he gave me $4 back from my $20 and then I tipped a $1 in their can. Was I pleased with the meal - yeah is was just ok. The arepas are delishhhhhh, and that pastelillos de guayaba is so darn good. Perfect with my morning coffee. Well took a trip over to Tin can Alley! It is the sister to another ABQ staple, Green Jeans! If you love Green Jeans, you found your alternative. Same establishments but different location. Found Guava Tree and decided to try it out! Ima huge cubano fan so I decided to give there's a try! I wasn't disappointed. Funny and curious thing is that I hate pickles and mustard, but in this sandwich, I can't help but think removing them would take away from it! The meat was home cooked, bread was amazing! Best Cubano ever! I recently went to Florida and was craving a local Cubano and I couldn't find any that were good. I might have been looking in the wrong areas but I tried to go off of recommendations with no luck. A week or so after our trip, we came to have drinks at Tin Can Alley and wanted some food. I saw that Guava Tree Cafe had a cubano on their menu and as a joke we ordered it thinking it would be funny if their Cubano was better than those found in Florida. I am beyond excited that I ordered this as a joke because this is now the place I come to get cubanos specifically. It is so packed with flavor and juicy. It's very easy to get the meat dry in a sandwich like this. So if you have not tried their cubanos by 100%, recommend it. I also like their yucca fries on the side. read more

Aaaah Miami...one of my favorite places. To sit and feel the warm breeze on my face while I ingest as much Cuban food and drink as many mojitos as possible. Since moving from Florida, I have been struggling to find somewhere that can satisfy my addiction for a good Cuban sandwich, and as I sat in the upper deck of tin can alley, overlooking Alameda, a tear slowly ran down my face as I took a bite of what was probably one of the best Cubanos I have ever had. I was instantly taken to little Havana as I had to stop myself from eating the entire sandwich in one bite. The tostones were every bit as good as any I have ever had in Florida, but that sandwich was nothing short of EMPINGAO. No froofy garlic mayo, or Chipotle ham, or French bread on this bad boy. Just a simple Cubano the way it was intended, lechon asado, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard, all melted together in perfectly toasted Cuban bread. Won't come back again third time trying the first time used be good ... ordered a Cubano and was given the wrong sandwich which is called and medionoche and let me tell you it literally had a single thin round slice of ham a couple shredded pieces of pork and a slice of cheese and 5 pickles for $17 not coming back . This place used to be excellent several years ago, but has gone way downhill since. A couple months ago, I order my usual arepa del patron and it was inedible. The meat was dry and had a gross smell.
