    Sparkling lemonade- Papelon
    Tanera J.

This review is solely based on the sparkling lemonade I ordered! I didn't try the food. I was getting pho in the tin can alley and this place is right next to the pho place. I seen the stand alone restaurant for this cafe and wanted to try it, so once I seen it in the food court, I knew I had to at least get a beverage. They have lots of good flavors to choose from on their lemonade menu. I went with the papelon because I wasn't familiar with it and wanted to see what it was like. The lady told me it was basically their house lemonade and that it would be sweet but not overly sweet. The lemonade was really good. Tasted almost like honey or brown sugar with a hint of cinnamon vibe. It wasn't too sweet like she said but it definitely was more of a sweet flavor. It was a bit pricey for just lemonade but I really didn't mind once I tasted it. Tasted like good high quality ingredients are used!

Cubano, yuca fries and aioli garlic sauce

My husband and I always share a Cubano sandwich and a basket of yuca fries. I know we should branch out but it is just SO good! Salty ham, the richness of the pork and Swiss cheese cut by the tanginess of the yellow mustard and pickles. The yuca fries are salty and creamy and the aioli garlic sauce is a great accompaniment. I can't recommend this combo enough!!

The Cubano from Guava Tree is absolutely packed with flavor--crispy bread, tender roasted pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and just the right amount of mustard. Every bite is perfectly balanced. Cozy spot, great service, and a must-try sandwich in ABQ!

Plantains - A plate of fried plantains with a side of grated cheese in a small cup, served on a blue ceramic plate.

Guava tree in tin can is always a fun spot to visit (I will note my favorite is the original location, but this location has longer hours). They have so many different things to choose from, my favorite is one of the Arepas. You can also do one of the combos, which is what I got on the most recent visit. The beef is so flavorful. I do wish I would've gotten an a wrap up because they're just my favorite but overall everything is still really good. We came during an odd hour, and it wasn't busy at all. Food came out really fast. The plantains are the best, I highly recommend getting one of the basket samplers on the side with both sweet and green plantains as well as the yucca fries.

We taught is was real PuertoRican food, but not really. We had a Cuban sandwich and a pernil sandwich (pigs leg) and they were eatable but no wow factor. It's a good thing it was on our way while traveling.

There's a reason this authentic Latin counter is always twice as busy as the other spots at Tin Can: it's delicious and they take pride in their presentation and flavors. I think it's easy for New Mexicans (especially those who don't travel) to expect Latin food to be spicy - but this isn't New Mexican food, y'all. Expect, instead: rich and flavorful foods with potent savory spices like cinnamon and clove. Lots of tomato base and moist, falls-apart meats. Get the house special and try everything for fun! Highly recommend the Cubano & plantains. That sandwich is perfection, truly. Friendly service. Can be a little slow but it's because they want each plate perfect!

    Arepas de patrón, crispy tostones
    Heidi A.

The arepas, oh my good ness, were so good! The pork was juicy and good amount of avocado was in there. Pretty filling! The tostones was okay. Not bad but I'd probably like the yucca fries more so will get that next time!! The sauces were great as well. One of them was really spicy haha. But I enjoy trying all three of the sauces! Love to have it again!

    Pernil & Yucca fries
    Tracia H.

Guava Tree Cafe is freaking AMAZING! The Pernil was loaded with the most delicious pork and caramelized onions that really pushed my taste buds to a new appreciation for good food. I really love how crispy the bread was and the side of Yucca fries was delicious and a perfect pairing with the garlic aioli. The Luciano was full of delicious roasted vegetables and gave me a new understanding of how flavorful vegetables can be when in the kitchen of the right chef. I have had Cuban food and Yucca fries dozens of times but I would choose Guava Tree Cafe over any of the Cuban restaurants I have frequented in Miami.

The same amazingly delicious food that we've come to expect from Guava Tree Cafe, but this time at Tin Can Alley instead of Nob Hill. It's the friendly staff, fast service, all-around tasty food choices that make this one of our go-to restaurants in Albuquerque that we visit all throughout the year. Nice to have a second location to enjoy when we are up in this part of town.

Pastelillos de guayaba - A plate holds a slice of savory pastry with filling, placed on a decorative plate, next to a coffee mug with text, on a kitchen countertop.

I already knew this joint served up deliciousness from my experiences at the Richmond avenue location, but just to confirm, I am still smitten! The arepas are delishhhhhh, and that pastelillos de guayaba is so darn good. Perfect with my morning coffee. Oh how I do wish they served my favorite soup there that I enjoyed so much at the other location with the flavorful broth, chunks of chicken and avocado and corn on the cob and capers and crema.... nom nom nom. This is a wonderful addition to the Tin Can Alley space, happy to see it over here on the north side of town.

K'Lynn's Southern & Cajun Fusion - Fried alligator platter with Mac n cheese and fries

K'Lynn's Southern & Cajun Fusion is one of those spots that feels like a real find…read more The catfish is the standout. Perfectly seasoned, crispy, and you get a generous portion, which makes the price feel like a steal. My husband's grilled catfish salad was huge and genuinely delicious, not an afterthought like it can be elsewhere. Sides were a bit mixed. The mac and cheese was overdone, but the red beans and rice were excellent, full of flavor and exactly what you want alongside that fish. Only real drawback is the hours. We found ourselves wishing they were open more often because it is the kind of place you want in regular rotation. Overall, great food, strong portions, and real value. We will absolutely be back.

I love Cajun food normally but I'll be honest this really wasn't it…read more The gumbo had a weird pasty chalky taste. It wasn't like a soup how we are used to, it was sort of thick and slimy, the flavor was a little too different. 1 star dish to be honest. We threw it in the trash. The jambalaya was a little better, but it still wasn't great. It actually made it to like a 3.5 star quality dish; it was good enough to eat, so we ate this. The fried oysters were pretty good, especially when dipped in their spicy tartar sauce, 4 stars for this dish. I might actually crave this once in a blue moon. Their Mac and cheese had so much potential. It was thick and creamy how I like it, burned cheese on it was great, they attempted to put som cajun seasoning in it that you can barely taste, but the part that docked them points the most was the Mac was overcooked probably sat on a heat lamp for a very long time. The fries were soggy after only a 5 minute drive. They also use styrofoam, which I personally don't like eating from due to the forever chemicals that leach into the food when it's hot. Also after spending $40 and asking for an extra sauce I got charged a dollar. I mean okay I don't thin the side sauce was worth the dollar but also the sauce that came with it was only filled half way. I mentioned that am still I was charged the buck. The lady up front had an alright demeanor, the lady cooking in the back seemed really sweet and asked me how i found them, had a smile etc. I think they should have someone like that cashiering.
