I have tried everything on the menu at Pollito Con Papas and haven't been dissapointed ever. I recommend the Yuca or plantains as a starter. Great with the Aji (green) dipping sauce. As for mains, I typically gravitate to the grilled chicken thigh and stuffed potato. (I'm a creature of habit) Its filling and very flavorful with grilled goodness and the tater is stuffed with chicken. Its glorious. Next on my list of "gotta tries" is the Chimichanga with the cilantro rice. The chimi is crispy and not greasy. The filling is seasoned just right and has me craving more. I always slather some of the green Aji sauce on the chimi to create a heavenly compliment to the Chimmi! The cilantro rice is fluffy and perfectly seasoned where the cilantro doesn't overpower the flavors. I suggest coming early or later for lunch as it is busy from 11am-1:30pm. If you do have to wait if it's busy, is well worth it. The owner is welcoming and friendly. He always greets you with a smile and cheerful "Welcome". He also has stories he could share for days. The unassuming decor is inviting and comfortable. Tables are on a first come basis though diners rotate through fairly quick. If you are looking for a surprising meal with friendly service and great food, you owe it to yourself to try Pollito Con Pappas. read more

I'm glad a colleague reminded me of this place, I haven't been here in years. It's a little space, so if you hit it at prime lunch time it may be a bit crowded. Turnover is pretty quick though. Service was great, they were very attentive and came by to check on us a few times. I realize it's chicken in the name but I had to try the veggie stuffed potato, since I like to be on the lookout for good veggie options. It was very tasty and stuffed with good veggies. Great flavor, I'm sure the chicken ones would be equally good, and I'll have to try something different next time. Except yucca fries, I will always get those because they are so good! The sauce they're served with is amazing! Definitely check out this little gem if you get the chance! read more

Still amazingly delicious and unique! I'm not sure if you've tried this place yet, but if you haven't, you need to get on it! I request Peruvian chicken for my birthday pretty much every year. I don't often get over there as it is on the other side of town from where I'm located, but luckily I was given carry out for my birthday celebration. I had the grilled Peruvian chicken, cilantro rice, chicken stuffed potato, yuca fries with aji and coconut flan. I actually cannot compliment this place's food enough. It's simply some of the best food I've had with really original flavors. The service was fast and our order was correct. I haven't been in the store for quite some time, but it is spacious with an open floor plan and lots of natural light. There's also a really nice sitting area on the patio. This is one of my favorite restaurants and part of that is because the owner is so friendly and welcoming. He's always up for a good chat whether you stop in to grab some carryout or whether you dine in. I highly recommend Pollito Con Papas if you want something enticing and satisfying. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Pollito con Papas today. It's located on Gibson across from the base. I had a chicken-stuffed potato and a grilled boneless skinless chicken thigh, which were excellent. The thigh has been marinated in something garlicky and was really good on its own, but the creamy aji sauce took it to another level - herbal with a kick that sneaks up on you. The potato was like a thick layer of mashed potatoes wrapped around the chicken filling and deep fried. Yum. My husband had half of a chicken chimichanga with his chicken thigh plus fries and cilantro rice. It was all delicious. Both meals had lime-marinated onions on the side. I tried a piece which tasted a little too much like raw onions for my preference, so I will avoid them next time. The service was great and we walked out well fed and happy. read more

I went on a very packed Friday lunch hour so there was a wait but it's absolutely worth it. We are obsessed with the chimichangas, the chicken potato, and of course the chicken and rice. It's casual, the staff and owner are always the best! I would only wish they had more space or a second location because they are very loved by regulars and I love to take people who have never been. read more

I can't believe I have lived this close to Gibson Blvd for this long and was not aware this gem has existed for 15 years. First let me say how welcoming the owner was. I arrived just as they opened, the owner ran down the menu for me to include letting me try the delicious pepper sauces they have and the Peruvian version of cilantro lime rice . He made sure I was aware everything was made in house and to order. As stated I arrived just as they were opening and before a party of 14 came through the door. My wait time was minimal. I ordered two chicken stuffed potatoes, a chicken empanada, the chicken stirfry and a piece of coconut flan for my wife. My to go order was packaged well to include a variety of their sauces and pickled onions. The food was delicious, just the change in dining options we needed. The freshness of the ingredients was apparent. We will definitely be returning, next time we will be dining in. read more

I'm really sad to leave this review bc I love Lolo Soltado. I've eaten this dish all across the Western US as it's one of my favorites. I enjoyed the grilled onions and French fries in the dish. The meat is dry, more like liver texture. I would pay more if they replaced it with ribeye. The sauce / seasoning is extremely salty. I tried to mild it out with the cilantro lime rice and green sauce but was unsuccessful. I ate most of the dish but left the majority of the meat. If you change the meat and reduce the amount of salt, I'll be happy to return, try again and update my review. They do have Diet Dr Pepper! read more

This place is only open for a few hours around lunch time. I've been here twice now and both times, it's been packed! Like many places it appears they need more help as the service is very slow and many of the wait staff do not appear happy or engaging with customers. The one exception is Yoyo, she was attentive and very pleasant! It took approximately 40 minutes to get served. Now, the chicken was amazing! The taste and cooking method was authentic and the chicken was juicy and full of flavor! The salad was fresh and the dressing on the side was nice. I ordered the Chicha Morada and it appears that it was getting close to not being fresh, something to keep an eye on with the staff. I'm Peruvian by birth and adore our cuisine. I love to find Peruvian restaurants wherever I travel and I always want them to be successful! I hope this review is taken as helpful so that this restaurant can continue to be a success. We must always remember what made us successful and never lose sight or rest on our laurels. I'm certain everyone restaurant owner recognizes that food, service and ambiance make or break the business! To be great, it must excel in every category! read more

This place just feels good! You will always be surrounded by good company while you enjoy consistent, unbelievably delicious Peruvian food. We visited this restaurant often, dine-in and to-go, while our son was stationed at nearby Kirtland AFB and it quickly became obvious why this is a base fave! The owners are kind and community centered, proudly supporting the men and women who serve our country! This is a MUST eat whenever you are in ABQ! read more

This was probably the most flavorful and best prepared chicken I've ever had. I wanted something different on the way home from work and popped in on a whim. The staff was absolutely amazing and sweet, the interior is spacious enough to accommodate larger parties, and the food was to die for. Legitimately, don't pass on Pollito Con Papas. Definitely try the dessert too! Can't wait to come back with more buddies! read more

This is small local restaurant near Girard and near the VA hospital. Prices are a bit on the higher end and food is average but not outstanding as expected. They have chicken empanadas and chicken enchiladas along with other options. The green sauce and purple onion is a nice touch for your entree. They also make natural drinks and are not overwhelming sweet. They also have freshly made yucca fries which are better than regular seasoned fries that they make. The grilled chicken has so much potential but was not moist as it looked and overcooked. Service was speedy and customer service was average. read more

This restaurant is a gem! It has all the elements you want in a small family run business. The owner and his wife are incredible people and a real joy to mix with. They take incredible pride in their food and love to explain how the dishes are prepared. And the dishes are worth hearing the stories. The Fried Yuca is brilliant. He dries the root vegetable overnight and then fries it in tempura batter. It comes with Aji and you can request the brown sauce. Peruvians mix their chilis with cream and these sauces are so delicious. The yuca is light and delicious and the sauce is tremendous. They do a stuffed potato (filled with chicken and flavor) that's fun. The chicken thigh is so flavorful and pairs well with the sauce. And the chimichanga is great! But the Pollo Saltado is the king here. It's a stir-fry with chicken, onions, tomatoes, and fries. It's delicious. And if you ask, the owner will show you a video of how they make it. They really are proud of their food and want to educate the customers about what they are eating. They love Peru and want you to love the food. You gotta try it! read more

When you drive by, the place is very unassuming. But don't let that fool you! When you go inside, there is a vast menu, but not one that leaves you overwhelmed. I had the number one, which was two chicken thighs with half potatoes and half cilantro rice. The food was amazing! The staff is super cool and very friendly! The place itself is clean and has a very home atmosphere. You will not regret trying this place out! read more

Came during lunch and service was really great. This place is really efficient given the amount of people that come out for lunch. Our food came out really quick. I ordered the boneless chicken thigh and chimichanga with cilantro rice. So the rice and chimichanga was really good, however the boneless thigh was dry and not very filling. I should've probably got the half chicken plate with a chimichanga on the side. I'll probably come back and try other things, but definitely wasn't satisfied with what I got. read more

Overall: Pollito Con Papas serves up the best grilled chicken in Albuquerque and has other chicken options for those not interested in just grilled chicken. Food: 5 Grilled Chicken Leg & Thigh: This normally comes with fries, but we substituted for cilantro rice at no additional cost. The chicken was well grilled with a crispy skin, rendered out fat, and juicy meat. The cilantro rice is aromatic and flavorful but not overpowering in flavor. The aji is spicy so be careful! Chimichanga & Chicken Stuffed Potato: The chimichanga is smaller than the ones that I am used to but very filling! It is fried perfectly, not oily, and comes filled with shredded chicken and onions. The chicken stuffed potato is a fried mashed potato ball filled with shredded chicken and also very good. Service: 5 The servers were very nice when they took our order and checked us out. They don't stop by frequently to check in on tables, but I actually prefer not being bothered while eating. Ambiance: 5 The restaurant is in its own little plaza and very spacious with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. It is fairly clean and cool inside. read more

This place ticks off all the boxes of a great restaurant. Unassuming Location? - Check Small Menu? - Check Great Service? - Check I often wonder when I go to restaurants with books for menus how can they perfect everything on that menu. The food here is amazing -- the chimichanga is a must, and the rice and chicken were super flavorful and filling. Portions are big and everything tastes fresh. The place has that "hole in the wall" vibe but the owner is really kind and welcoming, which makes it even better. He even gave me a little alpaca ornament, which was such a sweet touch. Definitely one of those spots you'll want to come back to again and again read more

Moving from California I miss a lot of diversity in the food. Finding this gem was a godsend. First of all, they have plenty of parking in the front for big groups or for pick up only. It should also be noted that this place seems packed all the time. Recommendations if you're ordering to go make sure you're order ahead of time. That's how good this place is that you have to wait. Their Peruvian Green Sauce (Aji Verde) is so creamy and delicious I put this on the rice, on the chicken, on the lomo saltado, and shoot even on bread. I literally buy sauce to go. Their pollo and lomo saltado are so rich in flavor from those big red onion chunks, soft yet fully cooked potato fries, juicy tomatoes, and the quality of meat. Definitely a must if you're looking for new foods to try and definitely a must if you want good quality food. Service is also amazing. They are the sweetest individuals who are constantly flexible and very welcoming. read more

I am not one for ethnic food, and had reservations about Peruvian before trying it. Man am I glad I did. I emplore you to try this place. I've been wanting to try this place for a while to get a taste of home. What a gem!! We started with the Yuca and it was delicious. Their aji sauce was amazing. Honestly, the aji sauce is what I was looking forward the most since it's a staple alongside "pollo a la brasa". The chicken was cooked perfectly. So tender and juicy. My wife had the stuffed potato and chimichanga. Both were great! It was nice to have some Inca Kola but the Chicha is definitely the way to go if you've never had it. The place got packed soon after we got there. They did their best to take care of everyone and each interaction was super attentive. You won't regret stopping by. read more

Why did it take me this long to find this place!!! Ahhhh It's absolutely delicious you will find the menu is super simple! Which is great because if your hungry you're not bombarded by all the options. You must start with some YUCCA fries and ask for more ají sauce. It's a tangy, creamy dipping delight. I got the number 5 which comes with 2 chicken stuffed potatoes, marinated onions(ask for more), and ají. The potatoes are lightly fried and the chicken inside has tons of flavor and spices. It was deliciously season and wait time for the food was about 12mins. If your in the ABQ and your look for a bite of something different then I'd suggest you make your way to POLLITO CON PAPAS!! P.S. THEY MIGHT GIVE YOU A LLAMA KEY CHAIN AFTER YOUR MEAL!! UNA LLAMA PERUANA! read more

Yucca fries were extraordinary, especially with their Aji. Been to all around Peru from the heights of Cusco to the beaches of Lima, and honestly it's pretty close to their ideal Pollo con Papas. Would recommend if you craving a good, juicy, delicious piece of chicken. They had a lot of decorations up on their walls, cool to look at as your server brings you some water (you know be gotta stay hydrated), but I noticed some pictures of baby's on their walls, I ask the server if they could put my baby picture up there but she just laughed and walked away... I guess I was just to good looking of a baby to be up there. read more

Pollito con Papas does four things extraordinarily well: Their chicken chimichangas, chicken or veggie stuffed potatoes, cilantro rice, and a green sauce that's absolutely magical. To me, their chimichangas are a near perfect combo of their spiced chicken and wrap with a flaky but sturdy wrap. Their stuffed potato has mostly the same chicken flavor but they're also that rare situation (to me) where the potato flavor is a welcome addition. And the rice... I think it's my favorite rice ever. If I could only have one restaurant's rice for the rest of my life, it would be this. The element that ties it together is maybe my favorite sauce in town. (I might have to taste test this vs. Dion's green chile ranch.) We always want more - and I wish they bottled this stuff because I'd always have it on hand - and send it everywhere. I regularly wipe my fingers through the plastic containers and tops to get every last sauce molecule that I can. Their chicken is good, same with the yucca fries. But those four above are the best! read more

Friendly owner runs the front of the house while his spouse manages the kitchen. Food was delicious. Pollo Saltado is a special on a menu board but is worth ordering if they are serving it. It's a little on the salty side but still delicious. How can you go wrong with a chicken and fries stir fry served with tasty rice? Major construction in front of the restaurant is killing their business. Hope this nice mom and pop place lasts! Nice people with a diverse clientele of locals, military, and Peruvians. read more
