I went for the burger. And, it was worth my drive south from Denver without a doubt. I am hitting every burger on the Westword best burger list and this place was next on that Sunday afternoon. Simplicity at its best. First of all, Mindy was my bartender and gave me flawless service, along with a great smile and background stories of the place and the patrons. She made my visit so much better. There wasn't any background music during my visit, but one could listen to Billy's (regular/legend in town) stories all day long. He chatted with a bunch of people who just came up to his table, and talked with Nancy at the bar in between. Small town charm at its best. Lots of topping sauces, but you didn't really need it for the burger. Great as it was, and I ordered the double. Option for pickles and onions that come on the side. They had Voodoo Ranger in the bottle for me also. I got the whole lowdown of the four owners of the place over 78 years (the present one even stopped by), and, if I wasn't told by Mindy, there is history ALL over the walls. Cool bar setup, with a good-sized dining room. The place was like a merging of a diner and a small town bar, and was absolutely perfect. Don't forget. No French fries offered, and cash only! The next time I head to Colorado Springs, I might have to change my way down or back up to get this thing again, and experience the place again. We stopped into Bud's for a quick lunch after hiking Devil's Head Lookout earlier that morning. Sedalia is right on the way back from Rampart Range, and Bud's is the obvious stop. It was busy, which tracks for a place that's been a fixture in town since 1948. 78 years of doing the same thing. The menu is short. It's a hamburger. You choose one patty or two, and whether you want cheese. That's the whole decision tree. There are no fries; everything comes with a bag of chips. I respect a place that knows exactly what it is and doesn't pretend otherwise. Prices are reasonable. $9.25 for a double cheeseburger is hard to argue with in 2026. Bring cash, though. They don't take cards. The burger tastes like something you'd make yourself at a backyard grilling party. Nothing fancy about it. Nothing wrong with it either. Taken on its own, the food is a solid 3 star effort. But 3 star food doesn't mean I wouldn't come back. Bud's isn't really selling you a burger, it's selling you a burger at Bud's, and after a morning on the trail that's a pretty good deal. Would come back. read more

This spot has been on my list to try for what feels like forever. So, on a recent weekend, my husband and I ventured over to check it out! PRO's: ++ Staff is super friendly, welcoming and is used to visitors from all over Denver visiting, and their smiley faces really show that! ++ Although the dining room is small and fills up fast, turnover is quick and so is the service. ++ Food is decent, comes out fast and hit the spot when passing through. ++ Pricing is on point and cheap - our 2 burgers and sodas were under $20 with tip. CON's: -- Parking is very limited and fills up fast. Even down and around fills up this fast, so come prepared to hoof it. -- Bud's is a no-frills establishment - with only burgers on the menu (with no fries damnit!) - so if you're looking for more variety, this is not your place. -- My burger was significantly dry, and while I'm not a huge fan of ketchup on a burger (makes no sense, i knowwww), I dunked that baby into something to make it less dry. Friendly small shop with a simple but good menu. We went here after a hike and arrived on a Sunday at 11 AM. It's open seating and only cash. We all ordered a double cheeseburger and it came out pretty fast. This is a solid burger for the price! Patty is medium well, thick, and with 2 cheese slices. Finally gave this place 2 visits. Nice dive bar with lots of locals. Very cheap prices on the burgers but I can't see how they are highly rated. Liked burgers on 1st visit, but not so much on 2nd go round. Very basic with nothing special. I love a good smash burger but theirs is just average, actually kinda dry. Basic pickle and onion condiments plus mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise available. Just not for me... but a nice drive and maybe worth a shot for you. read more

WOW- that burger still has me thinking about it... This hole-in-the-wall is busy for a great reason. Their menu is simple- literally just types of burgers- but they do it WELL. No french fries (you get chips) but DANG is it tasty. The prices are sooooo affordable! They only take cash (yes there's an ATM across the street), but it's worth it. Neat old school style bar in Sedalia. Seating is first come first served and can get a little competitive, or at least it did the day I was in as we had a party attempt to cut in front of us. They don't have fries- you get Lays potato chips with your burger. The cheeseburgers were tasty in a no frills kind of way. The prices are great- we got 4 burgers and 2 cokes for $24. A favorite hole in the wall for me, they are cozy old western setting. Always a busy place I would advise to go outside normal lunch hours. If you like plain plain plain then this is your place. I mean it's good meat, but maybe I should have gotten the single. The double is a lot of meat and not enough cheese for me. You can get grilled onions, which I did but you have to put them on yourself. I liked the bun a lot. Also if you ask for Mayo it's a packet. They also charge for refills on soda, and it's a pretty small cup. The place is small, about 10 spots at the little bar. We ordered, then a regular ordered. He got his food first, hmm. The person behind the bar had zero personality, was a bit uncomfortable. The only time we enjoyed ourselves was when the lady that cooked our burgers came out to check to see if we liked them. When I came to Buds back in 2001 for the first time, I didn't know what to make of it.....Nothing fancy, a local joint, and they only serve Chips with their burgers, whether it be a single or double with cheese or not...and don't forget your pickles and raw onion on the side.....Since that time, I have been here several times for a double cheese with the above mentioned "acoutremants"...and ya know what?...I'll keep returning until I'm toes up or move far away. Plain and simple.....The Burgers are great, and you can pair it with an icy cold coke or a Bevy of your choice..The service and waitresses are predictably excellent and the chips?....well who doesn't like Lays?
