The absolute WORST experience I have ever had with a car rental company. First they tell me they didn't have any cars except one, despite me having a reservation. And the car they gave me was literally falling apart. Stuff was falling out of the dash BEHIND the gas and break pedals to the point they would be almost inoperable. They would "fix" it and tell me it would be fine but would fall out behind the pedals within minutes - THREE TIMES. After the 3rd time, the gentleman at the exit gate told me he didn't feel safe me driving this car and said I need to push for another car. I went back and at first they told me they had no cars and then all of a sudden they had an SUV arrive. Mind you - it reeked of cigarettes badly - but I needed a car and had to leave right away. Upon returning my car at the same location, I had a 5am flight which required me to arrive at the airport a little after 3am. No problem, right? Their website says returns start at 3am. I arrived at 3:06 and the return gate would not open. I waited for over 45 minutes, called the customer service line, and was met with 2-3 other folks also returning their cars. Customer service basically said despite flights starting at 4am you can't return a car at CVG until 6am. When I tell them that their website says returns begin at 3am - I am basically called a liar and told that I need to stay there and miss my flight This was absolutely ridiculous. I rented a car from Albany and returned it the same day to CVG airport. This in late Oct. First I got a 400 dollar cleaning fee. I called in to get pictures and the customer service agent even laughed when he saw the pictures and said something wasn't right. There was zero dirt. So that's the first time they tried to scam me. Second is they told me I returned the car 2 days later.... I asked them to check the car GPS and supplied a few different prices of info to prove the car was returned the same day. I am still waiting for the company to review the process. This has been miserable and the company has continue to try and scam me out of money instead of checking the car GPS and pictures. Budget Car Rental fails at MATH! Less than 24 hours into my rental (67% of the contract time remaining), multiple hazard lights go on in my car. The car is towed away that same day and the CVG counter agent receives permission to waive the rental fee. I have filed complaints with the KY AG, KY Consumer Protection Bureau, Better Business Bureau and Visa. After hours of phone calls and emails, Budget finally refunds 38% of the rental charge. This was an above average Budget. Customer check in at the front desk was very helpful, the man running the desk was very nice, he gave us great recommendations on what we should do while in Cincinnati. Our car was very clean. Also (This is funny) whenever we would move at a slow speed, it sounded like our car was playing the harp, and when we would go in reverse it sounded like it was in an opera. I'm really disappointed with my recent experience with Budget Rent a Car. I initially booked a 7-day rental for $321.35, but I had to shorten my reservation to just 3 days. I expected to be refunded a reasonable portion--around half--but I was only given $45 back. When I called customer service, I was told the daily rate increased because I reduced the number of days. This was never clearly explained at the time of booking or when I made the change. It feels deceptive and unfair. I understand dynamic pricing, but charging more per day retroactively when the car was returned earlier makes no sense and left me feeling ripped off. I've rented cars from other companies before--Enterprise, for example--and never had this kind of experience when changing plans. Budget may offer low rates up front, but the lack of transparency and poor refund policy means I won't be renting from them again. The guy that gave us the rental don't give us no instructions or information regarding the car all he said was to go upstairs and the keys was in the car, I was charged over $130 for fuel when the car was returned with half gas. The customer service was excellent at the desk! When I first got there there was only one person at the counter and I thought to myself: "pepare yourself for a long wait". But, it was not at all what I expected. I gave them my ID, she pulled-up my reservation, she verified all the data with me. She had me sign a few things electronically and shortly after she handed me the keys and told me the where exactly in the parking lot the car will be. The car was there, as expected. It was clean and with a full tank of gas as expected. To drive off the parking lot - they checked our paperwork - and when we came back a few days later to return the car - it was all easy as well. Please listen to the previous negative reviews of this location and company. I rented a car for nearly a whole month as I waited for an insurance process due to an accident. I took reasonable care of the car and was charged a $450 'Cleaning Fee' for no specified reason and with no documentation provided to me. The car was very much in line with how I have returned vehicles in the past. Had no interior/exterior damage, no smoking, no vaping, no pets were transported and the amount of cleaning it needed amounted to simple wiping/vacuuming. They rent cars in Cincinnati in the winter and expect a full professional detail before your return it, evidentially. This fee is twice it would cost to professionally detail the car and they call that a 'reasonable' fee per the contract. No help from customer service, no documentation. They only quote new "policies" each time that were never in their rental agreement to justify this. Contacted the Better Business Bureau and will be contacting whoever else needed. Not how you should be treated after spending 1500+. No one needs to pay you what amounts to some people's rent check for a 'reasonable fee' read more

I want to share the HORRIBLE experience I had with budget rental car at CVG airport. I booked. A sedan one way and the day off I get a truck from "Sherrie" saying that's all we have. At that I was like something better than nothing but everything start getting worse when I got to the truck and it hadn't been clean plus the smell of cigarettes and weed coming out was strong. So I went down and told Sherrie that I have asthma and that car hasn't been clean. She replied let me put a note on contract and we left it like that. Next day I returned the car everything seems ok until I get an email with a claim number saying that I damaged the car with cigarettes burns and they have to detail the vehicle. I immediately called them and they put the blame on the other rental agency and there is nothing they could do. They gave me Mr Robert Temple's manager I have sent an email and called several times never had courtesy of a call back nor an email. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE OVERALL. Here are few tips to protect yourself. Make sure read your contract Also ensure if you find out something wrong with car they give you a physical copy of that stating such damage. Not only was our rental car dirty but they have terrible customer service and I will never rent a car thru them again. I rented a car online through my airlines, when I arrived at the airport they couldn't find my valid reservation, only a canceled one that had reserved for the incorrect number of days. So they sent me out with an invalid rental agreement which I discovered 2 days later. After calling customer service and escalating to a manager on 3 different occasions for 3 days I've yet to have them send me a corrected or updated rental contract which they promised I would get. read more

Avoid this place like the plague! What started out as a perfectly normal rental has turned into an absolute nightmare. We picked up a Kia Sorento on 1/27. When we got in the vehicle we noticed it had a musty smell, but we were so tired from traveling through bad storms all day and we had a 3 hour drive in the snow so just shrugged it off and got on the road. It wasn't until the next morning when we got back in the vehicle that we noticed a STRONG marijuana order. So strong that we actually searched the car, thinking the previous renter had left their stash behind. That's when we also noticed that the interior was on the dirty side, so they obviously did not clean it very well (our fault for not checking prior to leaving, but we were exhausted and weather was bad). We dropped the car off 10 minutes early on Friday 1/29. We were greeted by an employee who asked if we had left the keys in the ignition and that we would get an e-receipt. We then jumped on the shuttle to catch our flight. Monday morning, 2/1, we wake up to fraud alerts from our credit card company. Budget tried to charge us $403. The bank declined the charge, luckily. I called Budget immediately to find out what was going on and that's when we were informed that the CAR WAS NEVER CHECKED IN AND THEY THOUGHT WE STOLE IT!! I assured the gentleman I spoke with that we did drop it off, 10 minutes early, spoke with an employee and then jumped on our flight home. He asked if we had a receipt and I said no, that the employee said we'd get an e-receipt, which we never received. We then get another fraud alert from the bank, this time for $527 from Budget!! An hour or so later I get an email from their LOSS PREVENTION department, asking where their car is! I emailed him back and explained everything above. He said thank you and that they'll keep an eye out for it. That's when I contacted the local Sheriff Dept to let them know what was going on in case Budget tried to pull a fast one and report it stolen. The Lieutenant I spoke with was forwarding the issue to his field units on the chance that they did call it in. In the meantime I tried to get answers and apologies from Budget's social media representatives. I was told if I "wanted an apology I'd have to go speak with the manager" UM HELLO!! I LIVE OUT OF STATE!!!!!! Yesterday, Budget sent me a survey asking about my experience. I gave them a scathing review (much like this one), and I get a canned response "Sorry for the inconvenience". I replied back basically saying that it is beyond an inconvenience as Budget was making us out to be thieves when in reality their own employees dropped the ball on checking in our vehicle once we dropped it off and have hit our bank with a bunch of fraudulent charges. They wrote back and said that they "spoke to the employee who greeted us and she was merely there to clean the car, not check it in..." WHAT? Oh, and that she FLAGGED our car, basically saying we trashed it. "Some pet hair, stains on seats and carpet, dirt everywhere, ashes and smoke smell". My husband and I DO NOT SMOKE, NOR DID WE HAVE PETS WITH US, AND THE CAR WAS FILTHY WHEN WE PICKED IT UP! So not only does this Budget location NOT clean vehicles between customers, they call them thieves because they can't communicate amongst each other on where their own vehicles are at. They themselves are thieves and frauds trying to withdraw nearly $1000 from our credit card. Also, they never bothered to communicate ANY of these issues with us personally. It took me yelling at the them to get any sort of information or update. I still have not come to a resolution with Budget about this. My next task is to speak with an attorney. read more

I rent cars a lot for work - this was by far the worst experience I've ever had. Went through 2 cars both disgustingly dirty with stains and trash left from previous renter. Clearly were not cleaned before given to me. No apologies, was told they had no cars left yet when I came back for a change for a 3rd time somehow they miraculously found a new car with 3 miles on it. To cap it off, When I dropped the car back off, I was 10 feet from the shuttle to the airport and the driver looked at me and drove away....Will never be back. read more

I left a pair of ear buds in the car when dropping it off at the Cincinnati airport. i located them using my smart phone but did not have enough time before my flight to exit and return through security to get the ear buds. I tried calling the local telephone number of the Budget counter in the airport to let them know. Budget does not provide any way to reach an employee at their rental counters - this is what I was told be the Budget customer service central call center. my only choice was to file a lost and found report on the web. you can't do this through their mobile app. despite reporting the location of the ear buds, Budget cannot find them. I know the address where the air buds last reported their location. it looks to me like an employee took them home. read more

Never again. Shuttle from airport was fine. But got off shuttle at rental facility only to face an extremely long line of people waiting to rent. I thought, "Ok, it's Memorial Day weekend so it stands to reason that they are a little bit busier than normal." That line of thinking would have been justified if they had actually employed more people to work the counter during a busy traveling weekend. However, they had 2 agents working. There were no less than 15 people, not counting extras like spouses, children, additional passengers, in line waiting to rent vehicles. Absolutely ridiculous. The agents tried their best to be as friendly as possible, but there really is only so much you can do when you were completely and 100% overwhelmed. I could not fault them for their seeming to be slightly irritated. It was completely understandable. If I knew anything about the industry I would have jumped back up there and helped them. They were being asked to do entirely too much. Through Enterprise, we are assigned a vehicle and an agent takes us to the vehicle to make sure it completely meets our needs and that we understand how to use its features. That was certainly not the case with Budget. We were told in what numbered parking space we would find the vehicle, but we were never confirmed verbally as to what vehicle we were looking for. It made it somewhat ambiguous to find the car that was assigned to us...is it a Ford, Chevy, Dodge...hey, take a guess!! Then we were completely on our own. I had no idea how to operate the not automatic headlights, so I ended up getting pulled over by a police officer because I didn't have my headlights on after not realizing they were not automatic. Appreciate that a bunch. Not through fault of the guys at the counter...they were trying. But I was not pleased with the service received by the company itself. Will not be back. read more

She told us to call the reservation number to pre-pay, which didn't work. The pre-pay number was customer service which told us this "isn't possible." Then when we called her (by looking the number up on google) on the phone her story did not match what she said in person. I heard her talking to my aunt on the phone. So I suppose she's just lying to get out of doing her job. While I was here 0 customers were in line. So you can't say she was slammed. She told a customer that did arrive she had to have exact change down to the literal penny to pick up her car. In addition, they charge $13 per day extra for a second driver. read more

In October I rented a car from Budget for a one-way rental. When I arrived at the CVG counter they were clearly understaffed and distracted. The associate who brought me a just-washed car jumped out without closing the door behind him or even cutting the engine. Right away on the road I noticed the car pulling hard to the left, and made a note to say something when I dropped it off. A couple of hours into my trip, the low tire pressure alert went off. I called roadside assistance; after looking at the tire, I saw it had a screw in it. They told me someone would arrive in 30-45 minutes to change the tire, and then I could proceed to the nearest location (about an hour away, in the wrong direction) where I could get a new car. 45 minutes later I called back to check on the status of the tire changer; hadn't been dispatched yet. I also realized I didn't know which of the two locations in the nearby city I needed to go to, and had to ask. I made sure - "This other location is expecting me, right? They'll have a car for me?" "Oh, absolutely!" A truck came and swapped out the damaged tire for a donut. I drove 60 miles, the donut's max distance, to the next location, where SURPRISE, they were not expecting me. They gave me the last car they had (luckily, or I would have been stranded, as the donut was no longer drivable). By the time I was back where I'd called roadside assistance, it was 6 hours later. I had to check into a hotel. The next morning I called to say I'd be dropping the car off late; I was told I'd be charged for the extra day unless the contract was edited, and only the originating location could do that. I tried to call the CVG counter but they don't answer their phone; it's set up to route to the 1-800 number. After returning the car and being charged a penalty rate for the extra day, I called customer service to get the charge reversed. They did so and offered to reimburse me for the hotel, if I would send the hotel receipt to an e-mail address. I did so, and then received an e-mail saying the only refund I'd receive was for the extra day. I followed up, to say I'd been promised reimbursement for the hotel; they replied again to say I'd gotten all I was going to get. I called customer service and spoke to someone who said, I see in the notes you were promised the reimbursement, but that department, they just do what they want. I contacted the department again saying customer service had confirmed I was promised the reimbursement and was finally given it. Now, two full months later, with no communication, Budget has charged me $220 for the roadside assistance (that took 6 hours and was totally bungled) even though I had insurance on the rental. The customer service rep I spoke to said I could send it to Disputes or she could take off half - bargaining over a charge that shouldn't be there in the first place. I think the staff are poorly served by corporate management that doesn't give them enough coverage, enough cars or good processes, but I'm never renting from Budget again. read more

The facility is great, the cars are great, the staff is great, but none of it means anything if they take 20+ mins to get you between the rental facility and the airport. While waiting for the bus, I saw 3 Hertz buses and Dollar / Thrifty buses go by. My recommendation is to go with another rental car agency that can actually get you between the airport and the rental car facility in under 20 minutes. read more

We got to the place and it was snowing pretty good and they gave us the keys and the lady told us where our car was and it was dark and there's no clear signs where to go. The lady gave us bad directions and so we couldn't find the car and so we cleaned the car off of snow and put all our luggage in and got in the wrong car which we didn't know until we got to the gate to leave and the guy just said, "you have the wrong car." And didn't bother to even tell us where the correct car was so I went searching in the snow for the right car and we had to do the whole process of cleaning it off and putting all our luggage in. The least they could've done give clear directions and they should've cleaned our car for us and brought it to the door. No rental car place I have ever been to is outside, so they need to up the customer service since it's outside. And at the least give better directions. read more

I was in town to see my mom in the hospital and didn't have time to deal with the problems with my rental car. I told Dennis my sad story when I noticed he was wearing a Budget polo shirt and we were both walking out of a Perkins. Although he wasn't at work, he was kind, knowledgeable and service-oriented. I rented a car from Budget and was planning to bring the car back less than 48 hours later. The employee who had me sign the paperwork said he noticed that I was bringing back the car early. He encouraged me to keep the car for the full 48 hours, if I wanted. I ended up doing so since it meant being able to return the car on my way out of CVG rather than the night before. Dropoff was smooth, however, when I checked my receipt the next day I saw I was charged for an extra day, plus a late fee. I called Budget and got the run around. I called again and eventually got a supervisor who said they wouldn't refund the money. They said the contract indicated I was bringing the car back the night before and it didn't matter what the counter employee told me. I felt like he went out of his way to mislead me and Budget refused to take responsibility for it. read more

I rented a car from budget about a year though I went on a road trip for business I stop talking to a lot of associate of mine had a TruckStop where I left the card to go help them unload the truck when I got back the car was gone it had been impounded for being parked in illegal parking spot I've been called the office and explain to them the situation after hours of the runaround they finally told me that there was no way they could give me a car back and that I was just stuck. A week later they charged my card 1800 dollars and said there was nothing I could do to recover my money. I would recommend choosing another rental company! read more
