I've been waiting for over an hour to pick up my car. I even checked in so that I could just go pick up my car but it still wasn't ready. I've never rented through dollar and I probably won't again. This is probably the worst rental service ever. Plus their customer service sucks. No help at all. I originally checked in online so that I could avoid having to go to the desk but instead I had to wait an hour to have a car assigned to me. What's the point of checking in online? My wife and I had a terrible experience with this branch and the company's customer service as a whole. Upon renting the car, the vehicle only had a 50% full tank even though our paperwork indicated a full tank at pick-up. We brought this to the attention of the manager (Jerrod) before leaving with the car. He made a note on the paperwork, signed it, and told us we only needed to return the car with a half tank, which we then proceeded to do. When we dropped off the car (with a half tank, as was approved by Jerrod at pick-up), we told the attendant of this discrepancy with the paperwork and confirmed with him that we did return the car with the same fuel level as at pick-up. He assured us this was fine, it happens all the time, and that we would be all set. They do not have you review the final charges or sign any final invoice on the spot, so it was only later as we flew home that the final invoice came through and we found they had charged us $77.37 is refueling charges. We have followed the instructions for disputing this, which are incredibly vague and all handled through a general online "Contact Us" form. There is no real person to talk to (believe me, we have tried!), and no way to contact the branch that made the mistakes leading to this erroneous charge. The "Contact Us" form doesn't even confirm that they have received your inquiry. This is the worst customer experience I've ever encountered and Dollar has not yet refunded our $77.37. read more

When I went to pick up, with exactly everything I was told I needed, I was not permitted to rent a car. I called to get my money back, the company told me 7-10 business days. I waited 10 days, no refund. I called back only to be told now I have to fill out a form and wait another 5 days for just a response from customer service. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told a supervisor was not available and would call me back in one hour, I did not receive a call back. One star is too many. read more

This company is purposely deceitful and fraudulent. There were surprise taxes and fees totaling 50% of the car rental price I paid online. When I received the car, the tank was 3/8 full. I went back to the check-in site, and had them change the rented tank amount to 3/8. I returned the tank 5/8 full, and specifically clarified with the attendant that I would not be charged for gas. I just received a bill for $121 to fill the tank (gas and service charge). My advice - do not rent from this company. If you do, DO NOT accept a vehicle without a full gas tank. read more

The prices are the best. The car selection is good. I rented a van through orbitz. Showed up to pick it up and they had none. They were short staffed. I felt so bad for the lady working the desk. She was trying to help everyone but some people where totally inappropriate with her. Anyway, she called hertz and got me a van from them. Now.....the van....2017 Toyota Sienna.....we were traveling cross country. I told them this. The van was dinged up. Dirty on the inside stained, stuff in the cup holders, and it had an odor. Bad enough that I bought febreeze air vent fresheners. We actually cleaned the handprints off the windows, gave it a good wiping down (I'm a crazy person so I draped the seats with sheets since we are pretty much camping out in this thing for a few days with a cooler, food, clothes in the back) Now. The first 36 hours things were wonderful. Then, while in the back roads and back country of Colorado, the engine light comes on. Now.....here where I am.......we have zero cell service for 12 driving hours. My thoughts were "hang in there little buddy!" We checked the oil, checked the owners manual and just decided that we had to keep driving it across the I have to return it today so I will update on what happens! read more

Clean and nothing to really be WOW about The location isn't at the airport which I didn't like but I don't think there are any car companies so customers have to be shuttled to and from. I was traveling home for my grandmother's funeral and reserved a full size vehicle and pre paid for insurance. When I got to the desk, I was told that they don't honor 3rd part insurance, even though I purchased it on their site. Then I was told I had to buy both liability and a policy to cover the rental. So I ended up with 3 different insurance packages. I upgraded to a challenger, and still was not offered any type of deal or accommodation. I normally go to Enterprise, but I gave Dollar a chance because they promoted a deal. This was clearly a bait and switch. read more

However, when I got off my flight I watched countless shuttles for other companies pick people up at 6 am while I kept waiting. I used the courtesy phone but no one picked up. Finally I called the number on my reservation, which led to some national number. I was promptly told that this location opens only at 7 am. The shuttle then showed up a few minutes after 7. This was not clear when I made the reservation; they should not accept 7 am reservations since they do not open until this time. At 7 am I expected to be in the car or at least at the counter. Had I known any of this I would have chosen another company and arrive at my destination an hour earlier. read more

We reserved a Buick Lacrosse at Dollar's CVG location. When we went to pick the car up, there was some confused communication--the representative asked if I wanted the damage waiver, and I said "no, just the rental", but she interpreted that I did want the damage coverage. Fortunately I caught this misunderstanding and she correced it. Then, we went to the car and got in. We noted very bad water spotting on the windows, impairing visibility of of the car. We pulled around to the cleaning area, hoping they could quickly spray and wipe the windows to improve visibility. The attendant there began to argue that the car "is clean", which we didn't disupute. When asked to help with the water spots, he said it was not his job. I went inside to speak to the rep again, who reacted to my coming back in by muttering about bad customers. When I explained my problem, she did not respond. Only the bus driver looked for cleaner and came out to help. By that point, we had decided to get driving and ignore the issue until we could find window cleaner. To clarify, this was not a busy time for these folks. We were not adding to a stressful situation. We then called Dollar's toll free number to complain. We did not fit any phone tree choice, so we waited for the default option. The man who answered heard our concern and said he'd connect us to someone who could help. He transferred us to emergency roadside assistance. The woman who answered there did not have a good option to help us. I asked her if here was a general customer service extension. She said there was not really customer service until after the rental was "closed". She agreed to note the issue on our file so it would be noted if we discussed after we returned the car (too late for any practical benefit). This is possibly the worst customer service I've received in the United States. We do not plan to rent from Dollar again. read more

I am disappointed with Dollar Car Rental. I gave this place one star because the staff was friendly. All I have to say is, you get what you pay for here. I arrived on time at 8am to pick up my rental. I was charged a 200.00 dollar deposit in addition to the rental amount (a total of 460.00) even though I used a credit card, not a debit card. I was under the impression that I would only pay $260.00 when I arrived, per my agreement through Priceline. The rental car agent informed me that EVERYONE was required to pay a $200.00 deposit. Then when I got into the car rental, it reeked of cigarette smoke. An hour or so later, I needed to use the highway for 30 miles. I couldn't drive 60 mph without the steering wheel and back window violently shaking. It felt like the wheels were going to fall off the car. It was obvious the car was due for a wheel alignment. It was a frightening experience! I couldn't wait to get the vehicle back to Dollar. When I arrived, I was offered to switch out to another vehicle and an apology. I politely declined. I had the car for 6 hours and was charged a "day rate", $41.00. The nonchalont manager said that was a discount from what it should have been. Now I've spent four days trying to contact the location and lost and found department and nobody answers or calls back. Corporate customer service was pleasant but said it was up to the local office to get back to me. Sounds like someone there has a new iPad. Also the car was filthy had 30k miles on it and. I really don't like leaving bad reviews because we all have bad days. But if you need reliable transportation plans, please do not use this location. I've used Dollar in 5 states and for some reason have had HUGE problems every single time trying to rent from this location over the last two years (like leaving without a rental - being told I could come back the next day, receive a shorter reservation, and pay twice as much as stated in my confirmation email.) The other locations are a huge bang for your buck. The way the CVG location agents are so blase when you express that things are going horribly wrong speaks volumes that they are very comfortable consistently upsetting clients :(. read more

If I could give Dollar Rental no stars I would. My in-laws flew in from England and needed a vehicle large enough for 5, as specified when they reserved their rental. They refused them the large car and stuck them in a tiny Hyundai that they could barely fit in, and could not fit their luggage in. They also charged them additional fees after the fact, and more fees when they returned the car for damage that was already on the vehicle when received. This is possibly the worst customer service I have ever seen. Save yourself the trouble and rent from ANYONE else. read more

Flat out lying about how charges are Incurred, said fastpass just charged my credit card, then noticed and removed and $11/day charge before I left the garage. Asked for my wife's id, she didn't drive the whole trip and we told them she probably wouldn't. They charged $135 for an additional driver and never told us there was a charge. Honestly this place was miserably difficult to rent through. I had a question about shuttle times/service and their number directs to an off shore customer service who doesn't even recognize that it's in Kentucky, they're unable to route you directly to the local office. I spent over an hour on the phone just to try and figure out if I could drop my car off early and make it to the airport for my 6am flight. Finally I got the number from hertz. Long wait for the shuttle at pickup. I watched as 2 or 3 vans for each of the other companies came by before dollar finally showed up. I tried calling to see when it would arrive and surprise surprise my call was routed to the Philippines and they refused to connect to the local office. My relative rented a car from the Cincinnati (CVG) airport, and accidentally left something valuable in the car. Because I live in Cincinnati, I called Dollar twice and asked to be connected to the CVG office so that I could arrange to pick up the lost valuable. I was told that if someone wants to retrieve something, he or she must show up at the Dollar office: they absolutely refused to give me the number (which, by the way, is not listed on their website). I was told that the person who left the valuable must return to pick it up -- which seems ridiculous for a rental car office located at an airport! I recently rented a car at the Cincinnati Airport visiting family in Franklin the person at the counter that assisted me as very nice and I was given a Chevy Malibu, after visiting friends in Vandalia on my way to Franklin on 75 S the engine light came on with a warning saying the "engine was losing power"... I could feel it when I would step on the gas, so I was very nervous, with all the traffic but I managed to pull over and turned the car off, it was getting dark and just wanted to make it 7mi to my exit, ...so I turned the car back on and the engine light was still on but no warning so I got back on 75 S and just prayed to make it to the exit and I did... but as soon as I turned on to the road to my family's home the warning message came on again and at that point I was almost coasting down the road but made it to their drive way. I contacted Dollar and they said the closest office was at the Dayton/Vandalia Airport to switch out cars, "expecting" Dollar to bring a car to me they "Did Not"... I had to ride in the tow truck to the Airport in Dayton to switch out the cars. I was very upset that I had to take over an hour of "my" time when it was not my fault! They could have easily put another vehicle on the tow truck bed and even the driver said that normally they do. Everyone at the Dollar Rental office was very nice and took off a day of rental, apologized that I had to come out to the airport to switch out cars, and said "normally" they bring a car to you?? ...not in my case! ..... but because of this I will Never Use Dollar Again.. I will use Hertz, Enterprise, ...someone other then Dollar, not only was I inconvenienced the engine losing power was very dangerous with all the traffic.... read more

When you get to your vacation destination the last thing you want to deal with is lines and petty scams. Not sure how Dollar has made it this long with their deceitful lies. You verbally decline all the "extras" they try and upsell you and then they say "ok, sign the pad". What you're actually signing is everything you just said no too. "Extra insurance, collision damage repair etc" Now you're on the hook for it and they know it's a known problem and continue to use the same tactic over and over again. Go look at other reviews sites, this is a huge problem for Dollar. Although I paid for comprehensive insurance I continue to receive harassing calls regarding the car return being overdue. Had to drive rental car through blizzard for four hours...windshield fluid did not work. Although it was 0 degrees, my son had to keep sticking his head out the window to tell me where road was. Most harrowing experience of my life. When I complained, they refused to give me a refund, took $61 off $230 charge. read more
