I had a reservation with Budget. Arrived at car rental desk- reservation was made in my name through Costco but my husband's Fastbreak number was attached to reservation. Was told I needed to make a new reservation and would need to go to the inside desk which had a long line. Went online to create a new reservation- due to car shortages my car was now abut $400 more for the 3 day rental. I asked to speak to a manager and it took him 35 minutes to come out to speak with me. His reponse to my frustration- "I'm sorry you see it that way." Made online reservations under my dads name and paid with my own credit card. When I got to the branch I was told by African American Man that I couldn't pay for my dad nor I couldn't switched reservation under my name. This individual was very rude and unprofessional. I asked to speak to a manager. Manager by the name Christian Crockett told me that he couldn't edit original reservation because he was looking out for his company so I asked what about putting customer first and he replied you don't come first, specially if you don't qualify. Qualify? What does the mean? So I replied I don't come first and he replied back no you don't. So I said you as the leader of this branch should be able to override and help me, which he replied no I can't. Then he proceeds by saying the best I can do is switched reservation to your name but I will charge more of what the original online reservation was. I declined. The day we came here to pick up our vehicle, the entire nationwide computer system was out for Budget/Avis/Payless. Even "better," the entire company had gone paper-free just the previous week. You can imagine the hassle! It took us 90 minutes even with very few people ahead of us. I am giving a 3 rating because the staff performed admirably, although they certainly showed signs of strain. The vehicle was also trouble-free while we had it. But seeing everyone using the other rental car companies coming and going so quickly makes me tend to prefer one of them for any future travel through Ontario Airport. read more

I left my garage opener in a rental car that was returned and when I went back almost 2 hours later to recover my item, I was told that I would have to file a lost item claim via their lost/returns portal. Let me preface this by saying that the car was rented and returned to the Ontario Airport at 7:20p and I returned at almost 9p to recover my item. I live in Los Angeles, which is between 50-60 miles away from the airport and it is not easy for me to just come back to pick up my item. I left, with no gate opener to my home, and had to filed a claim the next day on the portal. I've been checking the portal nonstop since filing the claim and only today was an item matching the description of my gate opener was recovered. I never received an email or phone call saying that it was my item and none of the phone numbers listed on the email or website connect me to the lost & found department, only to general services. I called the Budget headquarters in Oklahoma, and spoke to someone that gave me the general number Avis. I am writing this complaint in frustration with Budget/Avis and in hopes that they get on the same page and update their systems. The customer service has been awful to the point that I will never rent a car from them and will deter anyone else from renting with them. DO BETTER! read more

I rented a vehicle from Budget. They were my go to rental company for anytime I needed a vehicle. Unfortunately, this was my last time I'll ever use Budget. On Friday 5/3/2024 My daughter and I were heading to Fresno for my son's wedding. We had his tux and the flowers in the car. We arrived at the Ontario California location at the airport around 8:30 AM. The first car they gave us. The screen did not work and we cannot connect our Bluetooth. It took him 30 minutes to exchange the car at which time they gave us a 2024 Chevrolet equinox. I was a little irritated as we were going to be the ones driving the bride to the wedding location. The passenger side of the equinox look like it has been sideswiped. So photos were not an option on the passenger side. But didn't have time to exchange For a 3rd car. We left approximately 915am heading to Fresno For 6 PM wedding. The vehicle left us an hour and a half into our trip. We were on the side of the road in the fast lane on the freeway shoulder. Immediately called roadside assistance in a panic. Panic turned into fury when one, two, three 4 Hours went by. No roadside assistance As my panic turned into a heart attack that it was 4:30 PM and we were still in LA County. We missed my son's wedding. No tux since I had it in my rental. I must've called customer service and the roadside assistance from Budget at least 20 times Yelling screaming for help. I ended up having to take a Uber off the side of the freeway to the The nearest exit . Just to gather myself. And figure out what to do from there. I ended up taking Another Uber to the airport. I did not make it to Fresno until 9:30 PM. The roadside assistance from Budget had the nerve to call me at 11:30 PM that night from Florida. Who in their right mind would send a towing company from FLORIDA!!! to pick someone up California? In the I ended up leaving the car On the side of the freeway. I received a call from the towing company Saying they had the vehicle and they were taking it to LAX. They did not check the car in at LAX until Saturday at 11:30 AM when the car had been picked up 7PM that same evening. In addition I was charged for the towing, GAS AND AN EXTRA DAY. For a vehicle that left me stranded. I hope No one ever has to be stranded on the side of the road or anywhere when renting a vehicle from Budget. Their roadside assistance division needs some major customer service training skills . Check your processes budget and Give your call-center some Geographical classes so they can know the difference between California and Florida. I had an amazing experience with Budget Car Rental. Post-pandemic, car rental prices have spiked, but I was able to rent affordably through Budget. They have an option to check in beforehand on the application, and it saves you waiting in those dreadful long lines! No issues until I went to find my car at the lot. I was sort of lost so I went to the fastbreak counter at the lot for some assistance with locating my car. As soon as I walked in I said Hi to the man at the counter. He completely ignored me and just looking at his phone. I asked him if he knew where A-17 is, and he says "I do sir" and nothing else. So I'm like, "Um is it around here?" and he says "It is sir" and just looks at me and says nothing else. So then I go, "Um can you point me to the direction of where it is?" and he just points his dumb in the direction and starts serving the next customer. Like okay?? What was all that attitude for? 6/27/21 I reserved a Jeep with Budget Rental at 3450 E Airport Dr,ONTARIO, CA 91761. I pre-paid $463.83. I arrived 7/18/21 & gave my license and Costco ID to Manny. Manny told his manager Nick right in front of me that my ID did not look like me and that I gave a "blurry" costco ID. Very offensive! I gave my badge. Nick asks for the card I paid with and I supplied it. He claimed my card didn't match. I showed him my bank account on my phone disproving his statement. I was at the counter at least 30 minutes & he said someone took my rental! After all of this he takes me to a dirty jeep. No words. I speak with his manager Erik who advised 20 days after I return rental corporate will send me an $80 refund. I have sent a total of 8 emails to Erick Sosa, Senior Operations Manager at Erick.Sosa@avisbudget.com inquiring about refund status as it is 2 months now and no refund. Sosa responded once but has ignored Every Single Email since and continues to ignore my inquires to resolve this. This was my first and LAST rental with this horrible company. Since the time I arrived till the time I started driving, the whole process took less than half an hour. The staffs were very helpful and friendly. I hadn't rented a car in so many years that I had no clue what to do, and they helped me out so much. I got a Hyundai and it was just what I needed. The car was clean and like brand new. Was initially told that there was a 6$ fee for using the toll and they ended up charging us 70$ for using ONE toll road. Standing first in line at counter and a guy is sitting behind the whole time without even bother to look up and was "busy " typing on keyboard for 11 mins (yes, I timed him). Hours of Operation for Ontario Airport location: is NOT 6a.m. to 12a.m. I learned that the hard way. Also, the number listed on the website is NO LONGER in SERVICE. Made RSVP for 11:30p.m. Shuttle dropped me off at 11:30p.m. only to find no one!!! Budget Customer Service hours 7a.m. to 7p.m. (Time Zone info not available). Took a LYFT. Called the next day and the hours of operation are 6a.m. to 11:30p.m. Not their fault. It's my fault. Also need to include my airport information to trigger the RSVP. After paying $90 for a Lyft, they would only honor the original price at the confirmed location. First two representative were not sympathetic: Basically the office closed at 11:30p.m. Third Rep quoted a HIGHER rate for the car rental - picking up at a different location. My mum came back from her trip my step dad went to go drive with her to return the car done. Then these people at the budget car rental place have been saying we never returned the car for 2 extra weeks! How hard is it to look at your cameras in your run down looking building to actually see when the car was returned? These people at the rental shop ran up the bill saying we had it for 3 weeks why don't you check and see which one of your employees took it? Tried to get help from the staff however they did not prove to be helpful at all! Terrible service! They'll tell you one price, but on your credit card statement, it will reflect additional charges. The fall down the rabbit hole begins with purchasing insurance through a 3rd party interest like Priceline. At the counter the representative will pitch that insurance doesn't cover the vehicle if something happens, you have to pay out your pocket to cover the expense then file a claim to recover your money. They are unethical and the bold face lies. They will not rectify the issue and you end up paying way more than you've intended. Absolutely the worst car rental office. The rental car I was given had a strong marijuana smell. At first I thought it would air out but the smell lingered. By then I was close to my destination where there is no other Budget rental office nearby. I had to endure that smell for a week. When I returned the car eventually I complained about this and the attendant just said I should talk to customer service. Fair warning! the issues at this Budget location are indicative of the failure of the entire company! Wife rented a Jeep Wrangler while her SUV was in the shop. within 24hrs the Jeep was making a horrible speed sensitive chirping sound from the rear end. i attempted to contact Budget via the "reservation" line number but was referred to roadside assistance (vehicle was still drivable) 45 minutes on hold with "Victor" from roadside, ended without him returning to the line or a resolution to the chirping Jeep! i attempted the reservation line several times to speak to a live human again finally reaching "Mauricio" in what's obviously at an "off shore" call center. i demanded i not be placed on hold and that i need to speak to a supervisor...he left the line open and returned shortly to say i would be speaking with "Luis" a supervisor the phone rang and immediately went back to Budget's "on hold forever" program where your willingness to be ignored is measured in DOG YEARS! Day three the Budget Jeep didn't want to wake up it protested with a misfiring engine, shuttering and sputtering to life! This must be a special edition just for the Budget Customer! i've seen 500k mile dump trucks that ran better and made less noise! i gambled my perfect record of ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMPLETE TOTAL FAILURE by trying the Budget car rental APP. much to my disbelief it listed different numbers for both reservation and roadside. i was newly encouraged that an exchange from the Jeep of misery to a misery free jeep was now just a phone call away! nope it's the same system with the eternal hold and no response. i've invested 3hrs of my life into my Budget relationship! i weighed my options... i looked closely at my rental papers for "grey areas" in "disposing" of this nightmare.... i instead found Budget.com! i was on a Budget roll! i googled Budget.com and found... wait for it... another new set of Budget numbers! i called the Budget numbers, at this point i'm now 4hrs plus into my Budget quest for the exchange of the Budget edition Jeep! i called and a Budget human answered the Budget number. again i was talking to the Budget offshore call center. they recommended i return the Budget Jeep to the local Budget office which on Sunday is the Ontario airport where this Budget journey began. Upon arriving at the Budget counter we were told to turn in the Budget Jeep which we did. we told the Budget return attendant to "not close the paperwork" he asked why? we said the Budget jeep had Budget problems like the chipping rear end... the Budget attendant laughed. We were given a replacement Budget jeep but upon going to the Budget lot the Budget Jeep wasn't there! some Budget customer had taken the wrong Budget Jeep off the Budget lot. return to the Budget counter. another Budget Jeep and another trip to the Budget lot to find the next Budget Jeep was 1Budget filthy 2Budget dented and 3Budget nasty inside in-spite of the Budget covid clean post it note. back to the Budget counter for another Budget Jeep... finally a 4th Budget Jeep. we got Budget paperwork (we just crossed another hour invested into our Budget relationship!) found the jeep wife put paperwork inside and closed the door to inspect the Budget Jeep when she realized the door had locked! chrysler vehicles are not supposed to be able to lock the keys inside with the keyless drive system. The Budget jeep it's possible. we were told it would take 45min to get the budget keys out of the budget jeep. we again returned to the Budget counter when the Budget counter guy started yelling at my wife! *shock* it's apparently her fault that Budget Jeep 1 was Budget POS! Budget jeep 2 was invisible and taken by someone else! Budget jeep three had dents and the Wuhan Wheezer interior treatment! and Budget jeep four locked her out.... we're done with Budget everything! Budget Jeeps, Budget phone service, Budget roadside, Budget offshore call centers, Budget apps, Budget.com AND Budget Ontario employees! this entire Budget fiasco could've and should've been handled via a phone conversation a day before to arrange an exchange. 5-6hrs including over an HOUR at the Budget desk at Budget Ontario is Budget ridiculous. Do not rent from this Budget location! I work in the inland empire and get rental cars from them all the time. I'm not sure what has happened to their level of customer service and sales ethics, but the last three car rentals they have screwed me over on additional charges. They always have the lowest rates online, but their new sales strategy must be to get you in and then add additional fees and hope you won't notice. One was for dog hair, which was already in the car when I got it. I didn't say anything because it was just in the passenger front seat along with a couple straw wrappers, and didn't think they would charge me a cleaning fee since I was picking up the car already in that condition. The time before that I was charged insurance that I didn't authorize and specifically told the lady I didn't need. Lastly I was charged not "filling up" the tank up when I returned it. I always take pictures of the fuel level when I pick up and return the cars, and I returned this particular vehicle with a "range" of 30 more miles than when I picked it up. I mentioned ethics earlier, because when I called to complain about the fuel charge, the representative gave me a hard time about it but eventually refunded the charge. However, for that same rental now they decide to add a cleaning fee of $125 for some dog hair that was only in the front seat and would've taken 1-2 minutes to vacuum. I guess this is in retaliation for complaining about the fuel charge. I say this because when I checked in the vehicle nobody mentioned the inside being dirty or the dog hair being an issue. I guess from now on I have to take a video recording of the entire vehicle inside and out! Such an inconvenience! Almost every time I rent a car from Budget the inside is never fully cleaned. The staff that worked for Budget/Avis on June 13, on the PM hours kept their calm. I saw a few complaints, but they to handled it in a professional way. We waited for our cars for about an hour. I made a reservation about 3 months in advance at the Ontario Airport. I tried calling to make sure my vehicle was ready and they do not have a direct number. Don't waste your time calling their office. I arrived to pick up my rental only to be told they did not have the vehicle. They offered me a smaller vehicle which I declined. They basically told me to try back later. They were rude and had an I don't care attitude. They have me the managers card and told me to complain to the manager. Of course, I called the manager and got a voice mail. The manager never called back. I walk a few booths down and rented through Dollar/Hertz. The personnel at Dollar were so professional and got us in the vehicle we needed to be in. Go to Dollar rental. Don't waste your time at Budget. read more
