If I can give it 0 stars I would! I did my reservation online PAID IN FULL! Received confirmation number and confirmation email. I show up to get my rental, (which is paid for in full) and there is NO REPRESENTATIVE ON SITE!! how? When it clearly states it closes at 11:30pm PST for Ontario airport. I had my reservation pick up for 6/19/25 at 10pm. I started to ask around, maybe they are on "break" and the other rental car companies mentioned, not 1, 2 or 3 people that the dollar car rental reps had left since 7pm pst as they "sold out" for the day! But how? When I am a customer that paid in full for a pick up at 10pm. Not adding up right! So now I'm calling all their online numbers and yes, ALL CLOSED! Now I'm stuck missing my appointments, my car driving to my location which is why I booked it to have it picked up by Thursday. This is Ridiculous AND UNPROFESSIONAL! But oh check this! I went to the website to just cancel and go to another company onsite. And their cancelation fee is $200. But this is their fault for not being present to give me the vehicle. So I will be back on 6/20 bright and early and see what this company will do to better and apologize for this mess up on their end. Because they were quick to charge my card. Ridiculous read more

If you are military or considering a multi-month rental, please read this: This is my experience and hopefully a warning. TL;DR: My rental was repossessed because: A) A Hertz representative told me my car was overdue for maintenance instead of overdue for payment. B) Instead of emailing me, they sent emails to my emergency contact (my mother), who likely thought they were scams. This review isn't directed at the front desk workers at this location but at Hertz, which apparently now owns Dollar. I got a multi-month rental with Dollar in December 2024 for a duration of 4 months. (By the way, I had rented with them for 6 months straight before.) My orders were extended by an additional 2 months, totaling 6 months, and I called the number on the Roadside Assistance sheet to extend the rental. The extension was approved, but I should've known something was off when I never received any emails confirming the extension or any bills related to it. In May, I started receiving text messages stating: "Dear Valued Hertz Customer: Our records indicate your rental is currently overdue. Please contact our Hertz Overdue Department to discuss. Tel: 800-552-8482. Live agents are available 7 days a week, 5:30 AM to 11:30 PM CST. Hertz Corporation." Initially, I thought it was a scam because I didn't have a Hertz rental (I didn't know Dollar was part of Hertz at the time). After the third message, I decided to call and find out what was going on. I spoke with a customer representative with a very thick Indian accent. She informed me that my rental was due for service and that was the reason for the text messages. I had one week left before my orders ended, so I asked if it would be alright to keep the rental until my return date (May 28th). She put me on a "brief" hold, and after several minutes, she returned and said it would be fine. I thought that was the end of it. On May 27th, I was on my way to a going-away breakfast with my unit when I noticed my rental wasn't where I parked it the previous night. My heart sank, thinking it had been stolen. I was freaking out because I had already started packing for my departure the next day. After asking around and talking to the front desk of the hotel where I was staying, I learned my rental was towed for repossession on Memorial Day night, May 26th. I was confused because my lodging and rental were covered by my Government Travel Card. I called Dollar's multi-month helpline, and this time I got a different explanation for the messages from Hertz Corp. Apparently, I was overdue for payment, not service. To make matters worse, the extension that was supposed to last until the end of May was only recorded as valid through April 30, 2024, in their system. I asked the representative why I hadn't received any emails about something this important, as Dollar had always sent me emails in the past. He said they had been emailing me, but when I checked my emails (which I do 3-5 times daily), I hadn't received anything from Dollar or Hertz. I asked him to verify the email address, and he read my mother's email, which is my emergency contact. I've received multiple emails from Dollar for past work and personal rentals, yet I received nothing when it came to something as critical as payment issues. No one, not even a Hertz manager at the Ontario Airport, could tell me where the car had been repossessed to. I needed to retrieve my military gear and personal items, which I had already packed for my departure after nearly a year of renting combined with my two tours in California. I had to contact Hertz Corporate and speak with competent staff who helped me locate the repo lot and retrieve my items before flying out the next day. I'm still working on resolving this issue, but I wanted to take a few minutes to warn anyone considering a long-term rental from here. I had a terrible experience with Dollar Rental. Changing my reservation over the phone was extremely difficult, and even after it was confirmed, the details were incorrect when I arrived. The most disappointing part was my interaction with the front desk representative, Jeff. He was incredibly pushy with upsells and costs were only made clear after printing the receipt, which made the process uncomfortable and confusing. Even after asking directly for the cheapest vehicle he continued to try and convince us to buy a nicer one and would not tell us the price. I hope that Dollar car rental invests in teaching their employees how to be genuine and honest in sales so nobody else has this experience. read more

Located on Rental Car Rd. You need to turn left at the first stop or you'll miss the area you're supposed to go. There's just a few parking spots outside. The place is clean and plenty of seating inside. I did my research trying to find the lowest price to rent a car from Ontario to LAX because our flight leaves early in the morning. Dollar Car Rental was the best price, however no where online did it mention that they'll add an additional $200 on the car until we returned it. No problem because we are planning to return the car to the location at LAX. You save yourself the trouble of paying extra by filling it up so we'll just gas up in LA before we return the car. The car is fabulous! It looks like a brand new Toyota Camry. The car keys are left inside the car. Only a few scratches when I went to get the car, but I paid for the car coverage "good" package for $63. If I selected the "best" package I'd end up paying $173 for one day. Big difference in price. So the two stars are for the unimpressive customer service. No hello or good morning. She had a resting mad face on her. I asked if this was the Dollar counter and she replied it's the Dollar Thirty. I checked in and gave her my drivers license and credit card. She needs to work on her customer service manners to be friendly and have a smile on her face. read more

Renters of Electric Vehicles (EV) *beware*. I rented an EV for the first time, and while the wait time was quick and rental desk representative was pleasant, their staff is poorly trained in explaining how to operate and properly charge an EV so you don't incur additional fees upon returning it. I was charged $35, plus an additional $25 because I wasn't able to fully charge it up prior to returning it. Note: the cars *do* actually come with charging cords (despite what the rental desk may tell you). They're in a concealed spot, located under the trunk mat next to the spare tire. I didn't learn this until I dropped it off and the representative checking the car told me. If you're able, plug in at a residence overnight as trying to charge it at a vehicle charging station will take upwards of 9+ hours, which is ridiculous. There were no fast charger locations available over the weekend I rented it. When I appealed the extra charges to the both the airport and corporate offices for Dollar, they were unwilling to remove the charges. I've rented from them previously with no problems, but will not plan to rent from them again. read more

Listen, I'm not the type that likes to give bad reviews for small issues, you can read that in all of my reviews. Customer service is king. If your business treats me right I'm going to make sure people know. If they don't, then typically I just won't say anything. But this here, takes the cake on bad customer service. You should never rent a car with Dollar. Because unlike their business name they are far from costing dollars. The real problem is that if you have an issue you have no one to call. They give you a website to process any "comments" no real issues that you're having, like billing issues. Which of course that's what I had. No one to talk to about over billing. I had already paid for my rental through AAA and Dollar charged me on top of that. I ended up paying $890 for a 3 day rental. And no one to at Dollar to assist me. I will NEVER rent with Dollar ever again. If you don't want to lose out on your $$ then don't rent with dollar. read more

Shady place.. I got my car rental yes, but I was charged a total of $628 and some change. that was a $500 deposit for using my debit card, including however much my rental was which was $128 and change. they are supposed to send the deposit 24 hrs after the return of the rental, 10 days later I've received nothing. I call my bank and they see a pre authorization for $628 and some change, but doesn't show on my side of the account. Also, I return the car with a full tank of gas and they still charged me $40.81 for gas. This is the shadiest Place I've ever rented from. I really hope I get my deposit back. I'm never renting from here again. It shouldn't be this hard to rent a car and get your deposit back. read more

The obese blond lady with rotten teeth, I think her name was Amanda, was by far the most rude and unhelpful individual for absolutely no reason. She stormed off in the middle of "helping" us when I reached into my pocket for my wallet and said she's going on break, only to storm back and throw herself into her chair a disheveled heap less than 5 minutes later and sit and stare at us while Ari, who was also quite rude, and incapable of doing what Amanda was too incompetent to complete continued the atrocious level of customer service. Not answering the questions we asked and acting as though she did not hear our answers. The level of customer service received mirrored what would be expected from someone who had been spat on. These two should not have jobs that are customer-facing if common decency is something they cannot muster. Two adults acting like petulant children with IQs well below their shoe sizes. read more

I rented a car for 7 days via Expedia and paid just over $200 upfront with only the $90 taxes to pay when I got there. I picked this company because they accepted debit cards. I don't have a credit card. I knew the hold would be $500 from my research. I set the $600 I needed aside in a separate account so that I didn't have this mixed up with my spending money. The lady called me over and presented me with a bill for an ADDITIONAL $914. When I queried what this was for she acted like all of this stuff was compulsory according to Californian law. It included road side assistance, CDW, Liability insurance, some other customer charges that I didn't understand, pre-paid fuel plus all the taxes for each of these items. Unreal. I didn't get asked if I wanted any of this nor were the options explained to me (as there are multiple choices to choose from). I then had to spend over an hour arguing with her to TAKE ALL OF THAT STUFF OFF as it is optional and not compulsory. I have never experienced anything like it. What is MORE disappointing is I was overhearing the agent serving customers next to me and he was explaining everything in clear detail and giving those customers the OPTION of adding it on IF THEY WANTED. He was also friendly and joking around. The lady I was with was horrific and when I started to challenge her, her attitude became increasingly worse. She kept raising her voice declaring my card keeps getting declined because I don't have enough money. At this point the price had come down from $914 to $780. She kept trying to charge my card $780 then $722 DESPITE me advising her that there was only $640 on it...DELIBERATELY. You also cannot pay with more than one card - it all has to be on the one and she is telling me to transfer money from one account to the next. Hard NO! She also took action without asking me or telling me. She herself would only give me the car for TWO DAYS (even though I had paid for 7) and so she reduced my rental to two days instead of the 7 I needed it for. I did not receive a refund - so at this point, I have to hand the car back tomorrow (picked it up last night), they have kept my rental payment of 7 days and the only way I get to extend it to the original 7 days I HAVE ALREADY PAID FOR is if I call a number to extend the rental back to the 7 days and pay the additional money (over and above the $600 she reserved from my card. At this point I am out of pocket just over $800 and have to hand the car back tomorrow). There is zero logic to this. I called the number - they wanted to charge me $270 for the CDW the lady at the counter added on. I asked for this to be removed, I didn't book the car with this on and nor did I want it - it was added on by the lady herself and it was an ongoing argument to take it off. I got told that the extension department cannot amend this and so I need to now physically go back to the rental company and get them to take it off. This is an absolute JOKE. Evidently - your experience totally depends on who you speak to when picking up the car. I SHOULD NOT have a customer service agent take it upon herself to amend my reservation, lie to my face and tell me it is legally mandatory in CA and then have to defend myself and my position in an ongoing debate to have it all removed BACK to my original reservation. NOR should I have to run around California whilst on vacation trying to rectify THEIR actions. It has been the most ridiculous experience ever. The car is lovely and the process of picking and dropping off the car is fine. It is the attitude and approach of the staff that is directly the problem. They clearly get commission for upselling all of this insurance and fuel. I never once got asked what I wanted - I got TOLD what was happening. Absolutely unacceptable. read more

This is my first visit here and it will be my last. I made an online reservation for a rental to drive to Arizona. Upon arrival, I waited in line for over 30 minutes. A white woman eventually approached me and assumed that I was with the African American couple in front of me, which was a clear indication of prejudice. When I reached the front of the line, the attendant with a bad attitude checked my booking and informed me that there were no cars available, despite having already taken my payment. I strongly advise against renting from this company, Dollar Car Rental, as their service is poor. I was in town for a funeral. I purchased my flight and rental car through Travelocity as I have done before. I rented my car from Dollar at the Ontario, Ca airport location. I also purchased the extra collision damage insurance. I went to pick up my car that went ok. I was asked if I wanted additional insurance coverage through Dollar. I let the agent know that I had purchased insurance already when I rented the car, he said they were a third party and may not work as well as theirs. I declined and said I have insurance, he asked with who and I said Allstate. I then went to get my car and the car I was supposed to get already had people in it. I went back inside let the agent know and then he told me I can choose between two cars in two different numbered parking spaces. Got my car and left. This wasn't so bad but returning the vehicle was terrible!!!! When the agent/worker came to check me out. He was looking at the car and asked about marks/dings on the car. I let him know that they were there when I picked up the car. He asked "Do you have proof of that" I told him no I did not take pictures and no one walked me out to inspect car. He said "They don't do that any more" We got into an altercation about this. I let him know that I purchased collision insurance when I rented the car. He said "That is a third party and not insured through them and won't count". I was so furious! Then he told me he had to fill out an incident report form. I was forced to fill out this form before being able to leave to get to my flight. As he was looking what to check off. I told him there is nothing to check because there were no incidents. I made a statement in form and asked if they did this to last customer that rented this car and he said" No". The agent/worker was rude told me that once the check car and if it shows that the marks in car were there before I rented the vehicle then I will be good. This was the worst car rental experience that I have ever had. I travel to Ontario a lot and rent cars. I will NEVER rent from Dollar again. read more

Took a vacation to Hawaii and my husband rented a car in advance with Dollar car rental. To make this story short, we had to cancel our rental because of my husbands expired license and they were not willing to transfer the car rental to my name. They made us call pipeline customer service which is branched with them to see if they can help us. Unfortunately they weren't able to and returned our money back and waived our 175$ cancellation fee. Recently we rented a car to travel to Nevada, giving Dollar car rental a second chance. At first, everything went well and we were told that if we returned the car with full tank of gas, then we wouldn't be charged 120$. So, we returned the car with a full tank and later noticed in our bank statement 120$ charge. Before I dropped off the vehicle, I filled up the tank and presented the individual with the receipt. I thought everything was good. I checked my account statement and I seen there was a $400.00 charge and I was confused on why I had this charge. I called Dollar Car Rental and they told me the reason for this charge was because I was smoking in the car. I told them they were highly mistaken since I don't smoke and there were no passengers with me. The vehicle was return just as I had received it. The representative told me that I had to make a complaint with customerrelations@hertz.com, so I did. Ms Toby ** replied to my complaint and pretty much stated that she has reviewed my case and their decision still stands based on their Terms and Conditions. I did file a complaint with my credit card company because what this company is doing is fraudulent and they try to get more money from consumers in the most fraudulent way. I rented a car at the Orlando Fla airport for $206.12. I returned the car and was billed $614.90 and was never told of the additional fee when I returned the car. They said everything was fine and then charged me $400.00 for a cleaning fee for smoking in the car. I do not smoke and no one in the car did smoke. They will not take off the charge. This is the first time I have used Dollar Car Rental and I will never use this company again. Once they have your credit card they charge you what they want and you have no recourse. The representative in Ontario was awesome and she got me in and out in no time. The issue lies in the phone customer service. I wanted to trade my van in because I didn't like the way it drove. Rather than going into Ontario, I tried to call first. I could not get anyone on the phone in Ontario through the numbers on my contract or online. I go a hold of the rental place operator which was for all the rental companies. She transferred me to dollar and still couldn't get anyone on the line. The phone operator at the general dollar line said she could help me and that I would need to contact the local rental place.i still have my vehicle out, so if things don't go well, I'll be back to finish my review. read more

I use Dollar almost weekly on business trips and they have been my go-to rental company for over a year. I know they can get a bad rap yet I have tried them in several cities and have had great experiences each time. They are very competitive and although their vehicles may not be as clean and new as other companies, the low prices are a good trade off. They also tend to have available vehicles when other companies do not. The Vegas location has also been very reliable compared to other rental companies in that area. read more

Crappy company I rented through Rentalcars.com they gladly took the reservation they gladly took the money. When I told them I had my own insurance that I purchased though Rentalcars.com they said no that they will not take that insurance then said which of our insurance policies do you want? Pretty much forced me buy their insurance making me pay double for insurance. Then they tried making me pay for the fuel package when I said I'll fill it up before I get there they said they will charge me $9.99 a gallon if I don't get their plan. Rip off I have not returned the car yet but today is the drop off day I will be bringing in my gas receipt because they want to be sure I filled it. Because t apparently looking at the gas gauge seeing it full is not sufficient. And I will be waking in with triple Insurance my own car insurance the car insurance from renters.com and the car insurance that they made me get. read more

Reserved my rental through CarRentals.com prior to reading any of these reviews. After reading I was second guessing my choice; however these were the best rates out there. Took my chances and came anyways and was so glad we did. We were happy with our 2019 Suburban rental!!! We picked up Thursday night about 8:30pm (before the weekend rush). Attendant at desk was nice and friendly. My rental was off about $20 due to taxes, which I had no issues with (my daily rate showed the same as online). Transaction went smooth. I did notify them that I had purchased car insurance through the CarRentals.com website, which he said was a 3rd party, and I did not add additional insurance. Our car was super nice! Got the SUV Suburban I had reserved. It was a 2019! Loved it! We dropped it off Sunday night about 8pm, fully gassed and freshly gone through the car wash since we wanted to make sure they could see a clean car being returned with no scratches or damages!! We had no issues at all. Attendant that helped us with the return was friendly and re-confirmed my charges and told me my deposit would be back on my cc that night or the next day. read more

Can I give negative stars? Less than zero communication, no way possible to get the desk number without physically going into the location, what's the point of having local agents. Their drop off closes earlier than all other companies in the building, note that. Had an emergency, had to drop off a car overnight, there is no way to do that it is not possible. Even left a note with the keys behind their desk to inform them. They did nothing with it, I had to drive two hours back here to return the car myself the next day because it is impossible to get a hold of anyone but corporate and corporate will not connect you to the local office. Also the ladies have a bit of an attitude, they need to remember their jobs, and that they are front facing customer service representatives and that is all. I'd rather deal with the DMV than these clowns. I travel for business and rent nearly weekly, this has been the most absolute disgusting interaction I've had in the rental car business in my entire life from start to finish. Because hertz end thrifty are also affiliated, I will no longer be renting from them as it was their customer service agents that lack empathy and the ability to talk to someone without being condescending. read more

I filled up my tank immediately before returning the car two weeks ago. I left the receipt inside the car, like they told me to. Now, I've received a letter that they are applying a "fuel and service charge" of $47.01 to my credit card for "refueling" the car with 4.58 gallons. When I called, they said they could only look into it if I still had my receipt! What a rip off. They will deal with my credit card company. We had a bad experience with the Dollar Car Rental at Ontario airport. (May, 2023). We were the only customers there but it took over an hour to get all the paperwork done. Part of the problem was that the computer system kept bumping up the price on our car. (i.e., above the price quoted in our reservations). Then they did not have the kind of car we had booked. Then when we went to get the car, we couldn't find the keys in the car. Then on our way to our destination, we received an email saying the reservation had been changed and stating that the price for our reservation was being increased. We couldn't get a clear answer when we called their 800 number. Fortunately, when we returned the car, the price was as stated in the original reservations. But in the meantime, there was all the delay and issues getting the car and all the aggravation of having to worry about the price of the car while we were on our trip. I've rented cars from Dollar for a long time but this will probably be the last time. The people at the counter were fine but the computer system they were dealing with seems programmed to try to charge customers more than the quoted price. read more

Very confusing and infuriating customer service response time. Made a reservation through Expedia and was told my only options were cars I couldn't fit in comfortably because of my height, or an upgrade. Opted for the upgrade, and later on, needed to extend my reservation. Up until this point, everything was fine. When I returned the car, I asked about the total and if that would be deducted from the amount I paid on Expedia and was told, yes. A week later, I received a charge for the entire amount rather than the difference from what I paid on Expedia, which was damn near an extra $300 than what was explained to me. Nobody through email seems to understand what I'm explaining, and I kept being disconnected over the phone. Still trying to get it resolved and understand why the pre purchase I made on Expedia isn't being acknowledged by anyone. Save your money and don't get scammed by this place. You're better off at other car rentals at Ontario International. read more
