Horrible service here. We booked the car for 88 online and when we come in to pick up it is 184. We were only offered two options for insurance. We were not told until after we paid that the insurance wasn't necessary. It is a sleazy sales technique and we already have rental coverage through our actual insurance provider. We were told it couldn't be canceled or refunded. I called to try to get it corrected and I was told they wouldn't and when I requested a manager I was told it didn't matter and was put on hold until I hung up over 30 minutes later. read more

What's big scam! They reel you in by advertising )17/day price but the admin fees that they tack on are just ridiculous. I got a price if 17/day for two days. I returned in one hour one day and I ended up paying $125. Do ask about all the ancillary charges before signing the contract. Sometimes a flat out higher price is much cheaper than their advertised lowest price. read more

Kind of a disaster. I'm a preferred member at one of Budget's major competitors but I was able to secure a reservation for a great rate, so I went with it. I figured how much different could it be. We were taken to their rental center by the shuttle bus from O'Hare. No gripes on that part. Be prepared to be inside Budget for a while, though. I finally get to the line and I'm one of the least picky people you will ever meet when it comes to cars. If it gets me from point to A to B, I'm usually OK with it. I don't care about color, if you rent me something that's different, etc. I'm a pretty easy customer. I rented an intermediate sized car and after waiting in line for a while, we finally check out and we are given a Volkswagen Jetta. Fine - who cares? We get to the car and it's a Volkswagen Jetta station wagon - first time I have ever seen this. Again, who cares, right? Well, I turn the car on and the check engine light is on/flashing and the tire pressure light is on. That is a dealbreaker for me. I wouldn't drive my own car like that, so I'm definitely not going to drive a car I'm paying extra for and not familiar with in that condition. We unload the car, walk back in and get back on line. This was kind of a pain, because we had a decent amount of luggage. After waiting for a while, the woman who helped me calls me up. It was nice we didn't have to wait the entire time, but we still had to wait a while. We get up there and she says, "how about a Toyota Corolla?". Again, I don't care about the car. We go through the whole checkout process and then she says the car's not available. At this point, I was getting frustrated. Take three. She then asks me if a Hyundai Sonata is OK. Again, I don't care. At this point, I really just want to leave. We get in the car and are on our way. Another note, the car was red, but whatever. I will say that bringing the car back was a breeze and completely painless. If I had that experience when I first rented the car, I'd probably be singing a different tune. I'm not sure I'd go back to Budget considering the pain it was (this location - I'd consider others). As for the rental, everything worked out fine so I have no complaints with the actual rental car. read more

Don't bother. I rented a Lincoln for the weekend through Costco and all Budget were willing to give me was a Chevy; I made a fuss and they put me in a Chrysler. They refused to reduce the price of the contract, though. Don't come here expecting any level of honesty or customer service. read more

I only gave this location 1 star because of 2 agents that work here. Otherwise I would have given zero stars! Anywa, Ronda and Alesandro were the ones that did everything in their power to make this a pleasant experience. Despite their best efforts I may NEVER rent from the Budget/Avis counter at Chicago O'hare airport again! I made reservations online using Priceline and I made them for a pick up at 7pm on Friday and a drop off at 7pm on a Sunday. What no one tells you is that you should plan to spend 30 -45 minutes in line.... AT A MINIMUM! So needless to say when I arrived at the airport at 7pm I didn't get to the counter to check out until 7:40. Ronda was kind, polite and apologetic ,but the rate that she pulled up was $7 /day more than what I was quoted. Ronda fixed it with a smile. Thought I was on my way, right? Nope. Not so fast... the car I was given was FILTHY! I didn't even start it up...Came back got in line and waited another 15 minutes to exchange the car...again ended up in Ronda's line. Not only did she help with a smile but for the trouble she upgraded me for free. I'm thinking "Great! I've been considering purchasing a Volvo for quite some time, now's my chance to see what they're really like!" NOOOW I'm on my way...ready to start my weekend ,right? WRONG! Get in the car only to find this beaut not only had temporary license plates but they were EXPIRED ! So I'm back at the counter for a 3rd time and the time is now 8:45pm. Luckily this time someone has the good sense to allow Budget and Avis to share agents. So instead of waiting in line for another 30 for the next available agent from Budget, the next available agent could help. That only took 15 minutes... This is where Alesandro steps in,he works on the Avis side. Aside from him not believing that I'm returning the car because it had expired license plates and having to scour the lot looking for it for 15min to confirm, he was actually quite funny. He recognized my aggravation and fatigue and made me smile. He gave me a great car that I really enjoyed driving for the weekend. Only now its 9:50pm...Did I mention I arrived at 7pm? Which means my trip has been delayed 3 hours. Anyone that's taken a road trip before knows the importance of timing. The only foul that I would have to say that Ronda and Alesandro may have committed was to not ask if I wanted to change my return time since I got started so late. However, since they were both so nice,I'm going to give them the benefit of doubt and presume they forgot and were trying to keep me calm through all the trouble. My mistake was believing that the car was due back at the hour you rented it. So since I finally drove off the lot at 10pm I thought the car was due by 10pm. I returned the car at 9pm Sunday and was charged an extra day! An extra day for 2 hours past the time I originally entered on the reservation, that was contingent I was able to get the car in the 7:00 hour. Angelicka the manager refused to remove the charge and just kept repeating with a blank stare "We're not charging you for picking the car up later than your reservation." ;in response to me explaining that the late pick up was not my fault. You'd think just in the name of good customer service the manager would adjust the extra day considering I returned the car before 10pm. The bottom line is,if it only cost me $60 to learn that Budget has grimey business practices and only care about squeezing every nickel and dime they can out of their customers, then I consider that to be a very inexpensive lesson. If you're ever in a position and find you have to rent a car from this Budget/Avis counter at Chicago O'hare Airport make sure you pad your travel plans and allow ample time for things to be messed up. When they are messed up please modify your reservations so a couple of hours don't cost you another day like it did me. read more

RIDICULOUS! TALK ABOUT CROOKS! prepaid for my rental and when I got to the counter, they offered an upgrade to a 4 wheel drive for extra $10/day. as it was snowing, I agreed. Just a quick shout out and review of Budget employee Shannon. She helped our return go quickly and painlessly. And when I had a refund coming to me and there was a line with 20+ people ahead of me. This rating is generous...My experience with budget, at first was phenomenal. I had to fly into Chicago to drive into Indiana to take care of my dying grandmother. The gentleman at the Chicago airport location was just fantastic. My Grammy decided she wasn't quite ready to let go. I called the budget 1800 number that was on the bottom of my receipt. I requested to extend my rental from the 29th of July to the 2nd of August and to change the location of my return. The woman I spoke to told me it was okay to do that. Nothing was disclosed to me I had skipped my flight home so my grandma would have round the clock care. It was decided Sunday, July 31st that I would drive my grandmothers truck and horse trailer with her belongings back to her sons on the west coast where I flew in from, as they're going through their own health issues. I decided to return the car a day early since I had someone to follow me and return me back to the care facility my grandmother was in. When I got to the Mishuaka (I believe that's correct) location, the car was checked in. After the car was checked in, I was told the total charged to my car was $300 more than I was quoted. A $300 one way return fee. A fee that was never disclosed to me. The gal at the location said they weren't part of the corporation and was independently owned and operated. She contacted the owner of the franchise to see if they could refund the $300 fee. He said I would have to call customer service because they had no way to refund the amount. With her standing there, I called customer service. After explaining everything going on, I was told the charge was valid. I requested a supervisor. I'm kicking myself for not taking her name down but I was mentally panicking. I again explained everything that was going on and was again told the charge was valid and that she wasn't going to do anything about it. The website says no hidden fee's. That in itself was a huge lie in my situation. I told her the owner of the franchise advised I call customer service to have the fee removed. She mockingly asked me why he didn't just do it. I explained to her as he is his own franchise, and not part of corporate, and he was not at the location at the time, he was unable to do so. I told her I work for one of the largest mattress retailers in the US and that we would never treat our guests this way. She was snobby and replied this is a different company and it didn't matter. I then asked for her supervisor and she told me she was the supervisor. I again asked for someone above her head then was hung up on. Never have I been treated so poorly by a "professional." I work for a company that was just sold for 4 billion dollars. Obviously we are successful at what we do, which is taking care of our guests needs. I called customer service again, and again explained my situation and what had happened with the customer service supervisor. The customer service supervisor put in the notes that she spoke to me and no refund was to be given. The woman in customer service felt guilty and said she could override the decision and refund half of the fee. This whole ordeal took about 5 hours with travel time and time spent at the rental facility on the phone with customer service. That was 5 hours I could have spent with my grandmother. I paid $539 to have a rental car an extra 3 days. I didn't have a fancy rental car. I got the smallest one I could. This money was taken out of my mortgage. All for taking care of my family because her sons are all dealing with serious health conditions and I was the only one equipped for doing so. This company has lost any and all further business of myself, and my family members. Shame on your company for taking advantage of people that are trying to do what's right for their family. read more

I've had the same issues as many have. I ordered a truck several weeks in advance and they called me a few days before to say they didn't have a truck available. Happy to change my location for pick-up. Their customer service staff at the national office hung up on me three times before I finally talked with an inventory agent. The agent told me they couldn't help me and that no trucks were available. They haven't had any truck available for the last three months in Chicagoland, but they still allow you to book them. Please, if you have the same experience, file a complaint with the BBB. read more

I rented the car online for 23 dollars. Not knowing it was a scam to draw customers in. When I got to counter the Budget rep wanted to get me in into a Mustang, she said I would look cool. I said no! I don't need to look cool I drive and own BMW M3 at home. I want the car that I reserve for, which it was economy car for 23 dollars. So she gave me an economy car and it was my fault to trust her not checking my receipt. When I got back to my hotel I look at my receipt and it was for 35 dollars a day. To keep story short. When I returned the car. I address the issue and the rep showed me on his screen that it was supposed to be for 25 dollars so he gave me the difference. It has to be bad for me to write a review. This was a lousy experience. The customer service agents were friendly but there was not enough of them scheduled for Mothers Day weekend. I waited over two hours in line to get my vehicle. When I finally reached the counter they asked if I would pay more because they only had high-end cars ready. I purchased a higher priced airline ticket just to get home to see my kids sooner, what a waste of money and time. I called around that evening and the other rental companies at OHare did not have the same issue...they knew enough to schedule employees to work. Poor management, won't use them again unless they are the last game in town. read more

I was not happy with my Budget O'Hare rental. Don't pay up for a full-size SUV because they might give you a two-wheel drive Suburban. My price is my final price, how dare you try and steal my money. Now, just tried returning my car and they charged me $20. They said it was due to me NOT DRIVING more then 75 miles. I filled up the tank, there should be no other charges. Are u kidding me, u should be happy that I didn't put a whole bunch of Miles.m on the car. Anyways, the manager took off the $20 charge. TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Worst experience we have ever had with a car rental. Waited two hours in line at Jacksonville airport. They had only a skeleton crew of employees one of whom had no interest in working. A woman who was ill and could barely stand was left with no help despite multiple attempts by other customers to have budget staff move her up in the line. Several passengers called corporate and were told there was nothing that could be done. When the flight is shorter than the wait for a rental car that's a problem. When we received the car it was very dirty and had dings all over the hood and in other areas of the car. No one looked over the car and when we asked how we would know we wouldn't be held responsible we were told "take a picture it will be time stamped." When we attempted to email budget we received a response many days later saying sorry but no offer of compensation or explanation. The line at Dollar was short the staff seemed accommodating, I encourage others to try another company instead. read more

Budget - Over hour wait! - Car Rental Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

The rental that I picked up smelled like cigarette or marijuana smoke. I told the employee working on duty after I picked it up and he simply wrote "Vehicle smells like smoke" Murray, 12:17. I went to return the vehicle the next day and told the employee on duty the same thing and asked for the manager. He did not get the manager and stated there was nothing he could do about it and that since I pre-paid he couldn't do anything about it. He did not let me speak to a manger and basically said there's nothing he could do. The vehicle was nice, however it smelled like smoke and all of my clothes smelled like smoke. If I could give zero stars, I would. I reserved a full size vehicle on my recent business trip to Chicago. When I arrived to pick up my vehicle I was given two options of two different SUVs. Of the two offered I told the agent I didn't want the Jeep because I'm tall. So they gave me a Chevy Equinox. As a reminder, I reserved a full size sedan not an SUV. I was never asked if I wanted to upgrade nor was I told that the vehicle of the two offered would cost more than what I reserved. When I returned the car two days later I was charged two times the amount quoted in my reservation! I tried calling to dispute the upcharge and was told to send an email with my original quote to verify the amount. I did so and it clearly showed the cost was twice what I reserved. I was traveling for business and didn't need nor did I request an SUV. Budget responded by email and said they would not honor the reservation amount. This "bait and switch" unethical business practice will ensure I NEVER rent a car from Budget ever again! Now I have to explain this BS on my expense report. Budget case # 25283970.. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I prepaid for the car online and declined all insurance coverage. When we got to the Chicago O'HARE location, I was asked if I wanted insurance coverage, I said NO since our credit card covers insurance. The attendant went through quickly and had me sign screens briefly explaining them. She said this one says you are declining coverage so I signed it. Guess what? I was actually signing that I wanted coverage. Of course we didn't notice this until we returned the car and were charged almost double what we prepaid for. So, I called twice to complain and they finally offered to refund only 50% of the insurance charges since they say they can't refund the full amount after the rental is returned. So they basically have an attendant lie to you and say you are signing that you are declining coverage knowing you will likely believe them and end up paying for something you don't need because they can't refund the full amount once the car is returned which is when you get the receipt. How convenient. Furthermore, we were traveling with an infant. When we returned the car to the O'HARE location it was -5 degrees out. We pulled up to the office so we could get our INFANT inside and was yelled at by a worker saying we cannot park there. We weren't parking, just trying to get our baby inside and not have her exposed to sub-freezing temperatures by having to walk across the parking lot. Disgusting business practices. We will NEVER rent through Budget again and plan on reporting them to the BBB. We will tell everyone we know to never use them. What a rip-off. read more

Traveling to new job in Chicago. My new company says they've made arrangements for rental car. Well, I get to the Budget counter and I gave my name, license and card to the lady. She is very nice, and we chatted as she preps the contract. She then says something like, "how is a Ford Escape?" To which, I reply, " give me whatever my company reserved." So she finishes the contract, and has me accept on the touch pad. At this point, I did not think anything was wrong, but the agreement shows about $600 as the total for 4 days. Which I thought was kind of high, but then I reasoned it might be an estimate that includes some deposit which will be refunded when I returned the vehicle. But I just wanted to get on my way, so I just left. So upon returning, I find the total is over $600. I go into the counter and ask ,"why?" They show me a line for an upgrade at $60/day extra! That's on top of a $48/ day reservation. I'm shocked. I said that I never agreed to an upgrade, and the lady never explained or even said the word "upgrade". The manager then responds, "they are not allowed to say 'upgrade' to customers." Then I recalled the conversation. When she asked, how is a Ford Escape?, this was a tactic to get me to upgrade without actually saying it! I understand the contract is a binding document. And Yes, I should have paid more attention and read it with the same scrutiny as my 1040 tax Forms. But if a company wants my repeat business, they need to be more transparent about what they are providing and at what cost. If the agent had told me I was getting a higher vehicle than what was reserved by my company, I would have said, "No thanks, I can only take what my company has reserved." She never made it clear to me. Nor did she say that the rate was going to be over $100/day! I definitely would have asked more questions. So I felt duped! Is that how Budget wants their customers to feel? I would think not. So change your policies. Tell me it's an upgrade. Be transparent! The manager was on hand and fixed this by not charging me for the upgrade. The total was a little over $300. - so I give 2 stars. read more

Budget will do their best to swindle you. I can't blame them 100%. I did sign my signature. But to my defense it was 3am and I just wanted to get the car quickly and get to the hotel. I was "upgraded" to a full size when my reservation was for a standard. I don't recall ever agreeing to an upgrade. I actually was asked for an upgrade to a SUV for $35/day and I declined. But somehow I still got upgraded which was an additional $12/day. When I had signed the contract I knew it was more then then priceline reservation amount, but I thought that was the extra $3.95/day for the Ipass and taxes. I won't rent from Budget again.
