I've shopped here several times and always found exactly what I was looking for without leaving Sebastopol. Great service and good product selection. Quality clothing. Easy parking in front (can't beat that). As with most local businesses they do have a strict return policy so make sure you're clear about your purchase. Take your time. They don't rush you to make a decision, nor do they try to sell you something, just to make a sale. They want you to be happy with your purchase. They get my vote! read more

Horrible!!! I live in Sebastopol and decided to support the local business when I went shopping for my wife's birthday. I spent nearly $1,000.00 and I told the very helpful clerk that my wife would very likely be back to exchange some of the items that I was not sure about. It turns out that the owner was there when my wife went in to make the exchanges. He was abusive, aggressive and angry. My wife was still shaking when she came home. His exchange policy in his words "If you don't like it, just give it to somebody else or throw it away! Don't bring it back here." We will never shop at Buddies again and I will relate this story to anyone who asks. We have never been treated so rudely by a store clerk in our lives - and this was the owner!!! So much for trying to support the small local business... Most stores would fire an employee like that on the spot. Unfortunately again it was the owner himself who went off like a madman. read more

Fun and funky clothes with a great selection! No pressure to buy, the clerk showed me many things in my size and just let me shop. I actually like not having the mirrors in the dressing room, because it gives you a chance to feel what the clothes feel like when you move to the mirror. The comment by Nicolleta K. which had this phrase "not really my type of stuff" could be the reason for the negative review. This is an incredible store. Not only do they have beautiful clothes, they have great sales events. The sales staff is friendly and very helpful finding outfits that look good on you. Chuck the owner has helped me more than once find something beautiful within my budget. The comment by Nicolleta K is very puzzling and does not fit with my experience at this store. Dropped by because of a strong recommendation from a friend, and found more attractive items than I have seen in one place for a very long time. The taste level is excellent. Catherine helped me just enough with a perfect balance of suggestion and quiet; she is warm and engaged, but never pushy. There are beautiful tops with screened designs or unusual cuts; wonderfully textured scarves; and marvelous jewelry. There is an emphasis on comfort; slightly loose tops, no scratchy fabrics or weaves, and I came away with several pieces of distinctive, yet affordable jewelry that is lightweight (their woven guitar-string necklaces are amazing). There is another Buddies! in Santa Rosa, but, this is a small independent business with a wonderful flair and excellent quality wearables. read more

I really like the selection of clothes at Buddies. Many great brands (tianello, winter sun, etc.), great colors, and accessories. But what's the deal with no mirrors in the dressing rooms??? I really hate having to discuss each thing I try on with the staff. Though I've lived in Sebastopol for years, I'd never stopped into Buddies until recently and I was pleasantly surprised! The selection was great, especially for a 'not tiny' middle-aged woman. I'm tired of trying on clothes that don't fit. Buddies has a lot that fits, looks great, and is unique. As a designer, I need to have a selection of clothing that helps me stand out. Buddies comes through for me. I even found pants that fit me perfectly, but were a bit long. Chuck (the owner) offered to hem the pants for free! now that's service. I am a Sebastopol resident and enjoy shopping at local businesses . I have spent thousands of dollars over the years in that lovely though expensive store . The owner, Chuck, is fine ...until a return is needed . I bought an expensive coat a few month ago and the zipper broke 3 months later . Chuck accused me of having broken the zipper and did nothing to help me out except doing some very amateurish job trying to put some simple and unattractive hooks over the broken zipper . When I did not accept the "repairs " and picked up my coat and expressed my disappointment very politely on the way this issue had been dealt with and that he had lost a good customer, he simply told me he'll be happy never to see me again. I have traveled the world and I have never seen a more rude merchant . I will tell all my local friends . People like this do not deserve to succeed and quite frankly given the fact that the store is always empty when I go there, I would not be surprised if it fails . I've been shopping here for years . . .I depend on the quality of the clothing and excellent selection of styles. These days I'm dressing pretty casual . . .Each season I find several fantastic outfits. Katherine, who works there, really knows my taste and can be so helpful and honest regarding my purchases. I find that I keep these garments through the years and have been able to mix and match new combinations . . It is so much fun, like going shopping in my closet. I enthusiastically endorse Buddies . . Oh, and Chuck the owner is always helpful as well. Years ago when I first walked in the store, I told Chuck that I loved what was in the window but I was sure that it would not come in my size. He said, "Everything in the store is your size." I love Buddies! They have wonderful, unique clothing and jewelry. They sales staff are wonderful--laid back and helpful. I have been shopping at both Buddies stores for fifteen years. I have never had a bad experience. They are very clear about their return/exchange policy. It is pretty strict--but Buddies is a small, local business that sells unique products. They can't have the same policies at the big box chain stores. I wonder if there is a part of the story that Nicoletta K is not telling us. read more

I bought four items in i the Montgomery Buddies and thought the total was wrong when I got home. It seems that 1/2 of a red dot is not half off but 25% off. When I brought the items back I met with the owner who is rude and disrespectful. He say now only store credit is given for returns. I read on the internet that this store is in financial troubles. I have shopped here for 15 years and I guess i"d better use my store credit fast. read more

There isn't a store that I like better than Buddies. I cannot imagine having a bad experience. I always leave with clothes that I wear ALL THE TIME! Don't have anything that just hangs in the closet called "mistake" clothes. Plus, the styles and clothing is timeless in that they are not easy to date as out-of-style. They're comfortable, affordable and great brands. Chuck has incredible taste .. just look at the clothing displays, combinations of clothing. Wonderful. Today, I am very happy. I stopped at the shop in Sebastopol and purchased a lovely outfit. The skirt is very unique and the matching jacket needed the button holes reinforced. This was provided free of charge. The outfit was on sale. It is timeless and I will be very happy with it. The styles are unique and different should you not wish to see yourself coming and going. The prices are value for the items, such lovely fabrics. I saw the return policy clearly posted in the shop as discussed in other reviews. I had no problem with it. I found the staff very friendly and helpful. I live out of town, so my trips to the shop will be limited ONLY by distance. read more

I was given a gift certificate by my hubby, used part of it but couldn't find anything else. With $49 left I went back in twice but couldn't find anything. The store does not give you your money back if you can't spend it all there! Stuck. In fact, the woman at the store told me that they don't even issue refunds if you return something, they only issue credit, NO CASH OR CREDIT CARD REFUNDS!!!!! read more
