Pros- people are pretty nice here . They are suspicious if they don't know you which is very small town hole in the wall bar vibes. The nice it gets packed they have pool tournaments. The prices are reasonable. Also lots of food options . Open all days for food except Wednesday 9-2. Lunchtime at 11:30 I believe. The views from the outside bar area are nice. Food was also decent. Cons. Very musky smell inside and in the drink glasses. Wish they'd fix up the building a bit . Looks like it's falling apart. read more

Buckhorn Saloon is a very rustic restaurant and bar. It has a lot of old charm. We were greeted and welcomed at the door. Breakfast was great. I had the Corn beef and hash for breakfast and it was great. Our server and the rest of the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The bar and dining area are connected. Lots of old pics and decor inside. Geographically Buckhorn is exactly in the center of California. Parking is out front . I really enjoyed this place. We will be back! read more

Immediately walked in and was hit with the smell of old musty cigarettes. Everything is covered in old musty cigarettes and dust in this place. Service was okay, but they were playing an old episode of criminal minds behind the bar loudly that was talking about being S.A. with a broom stick while my mother and I were trying to have breakfast. Luckily a few older gentleman came in and wanted sports on the tv. The food was good, nothing special but did the job. The hot sauces on our table were out of date, and there was visible dust on the napkin holder. Overall I won't be back again. Place needs to be cleaned BADLY. read more

I called to see if their kitchen was open and if they had potatoe soup. Found out how much it was. Called back a little while later to order just 2 bowls of potato soup and was very rudely cut off and told that they aren't taking to go orders today. Like how hard could it possibly be to put 2 bowls of soup in a to go container. My cousin was going to go in and have a shot and I was paying for the food and she was going to pay for her shot and the tip. They lost customers, sales and a nice tip. I wouldn't be so angry if they hadn't had been so rude. No surprise that they aren't open half the time. They treat the locals like crap. Need more restaurants in North Fork. The Buckhorn is nestled in the small town of North Fork. It's rustic inside and out and the moment you walk in you're greeted with a friendly welcome. We ordered lunch & we're immediately surprised by menu selection & prices. It was like stepping back in time where you could order just about anything you could want to eat for under $10.00! My daughter got the chili hot dog. I got a cheeseburger combo w/fries & rings & my husband got a BLT & side salad. The fixings arrive at our table in a 6 pack carton (smart)& food served hot. Cheeseburger wasn't huge but not small either, it was just the right size for me. The bun was warm, soft & lightly toasted & my first bite was tasty. Chili dog was served open faced on a toasted bun with fixings on the side for you to top for your liking. Chili was homemade & delicious & my daughter who usually finds an excuse to not eat all the bun cleaned her plate saying delicious & she'd definitely would order it again. I did manage to snag a small bite before she devoured it & chilli was very tasty and it would probably be worth it to order a bowl just by itself. My husband's BLT was a good size, stuffed well with fixings. His side salad had a good amount & variety of toppings on it making his lunch in his words "excellent". Although we've been there for drinks this was our first meal. Our friends always rave about breakfast but they were serving lunch but given the opportunity to get there in time for breakfast, I'm sure would be just as delicious as lunch! Surprisingly, for a bar, atmosphere is what you expect. The food was not what I expected. This IS a place to stop & try if you're in the area for a drink or meal. My grandfather often took me to the Buckhorn Saloon. Kids weren't allowed in the main room then; it was rough, full of lumberjacks and mill workers drinking their paycheck. The saloon stood on an old stagecoach hotel site, a gateway to the high Sierra. Sam Peckinpah, whose family the nearby mountain is named after, was a patron. Last week, my daughter went there with her grandpa. She likes the pancakes. Little has changed. The last two photos in this gallery, fifteen years apart, show this. Good , hearty burgers! If you've just returned from some backcountry backpacking and are in search of a good, satisfying place to eat your first meal back in town, the Buckhorn Saloon is a place you should seriously consider. There's a large, rustic bar/dining area for your group. The server on duty is friendly and helpful even with very hungry and thirsty (and stinky) hikers. The condiments were brought out early, so we were all ready to grab them when the grub arrived. My cheeseburger came with a generous slice of tomato and fresh, red onion slice and leafy lettuce on the side. The side of onion rings was piping hot and delicious. The bun held together and didn't flatten and mush down into oblivion. I was very satisfied with my meal. The server and kitchen staff had been about to close when we walked in during the last 5 minutes of their food service. I am thankful that they were kind enough to stay open a bit longer at the end of their weekend to serve food to four hungry backpackers far from home. It made the long car journeys home much more pleasant. read more

North Forks amazing hidden secret! Gold mine! This is a 120 year old saloon, in the middle of this tiny little rustic town, with amazing history!!! I was in town for business so I had their breakfast and coffee! I would put them against anyone! Excellent! Service was like having mom cooking me breakfast! After my meeting four hours later I cam back and enjoyed four different whiskeys and the locals. They are awesome! Try the Pendleton's 12 year old whiskey Rye!! Awesome!! read more

Homey, down to earth locals hangout. Dark, dingy, rustic old town type tavern. I like that you can smoke and drink, like the good ole days. The fkn snowflakes complain of smoke, poor poor, petty feelings. Like judge Judy says " I DON'T CARE!" I love that you can shoot pool, shoot the shit and light up a cancer stick! All indoors! This place ain't for everybody, but it is for me! They got the looooong wooden table to play shuffle board. I had the BLT with onion rings, with a Budweiser beer, brought in a lemon that was on the outside deck and lemon'd my beer, tasty. Bullet holes in the ceiling....Indian bar brawls earlier. My better half had a cheeburger, with tater salad, they brought condiments in a six pack beer holder, the thousands island dressing is to die for! Passed through the city and stopped because it had a 4-star rating. Far from it. It smelled like an antique store. We were given the option to sit outside at a bar type seating or out back in what looked like an extension of the restaurant, possibly a covered balcony? The place was so dusty. After ordering our food a cat casually strolled by us and into the main restaurant and plopped itself on one of the pool tables. Staff was friendly. We ordered French toast it was not good. Biscuits and gravy very bland. Chicken fried steak was so so. After seeing the stars on yelp we were so disappointed. Would not recommend. read more

Rode the motorcycles up here this morning and spotted this place from the road. Walked in and this place screams locals, bar is full of people drinking and smoking (at the bar) at 8:30am on a Sunday. The food was delicious diner-style grub and left happy to have a throw-back experience! The cook actually had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth while he cooked our breakfast! Upon walking in you could tell is was a super local crowd in the place, but once we sat down and our $2 draft beers we felt a bit more at home. The huge deer head above our table kept our 20 month old daughter in-line. Very funny. When the food came out it was really delicious! I am now a big fan of their wings and will be going back for more. The staff was also wonderful! One of the bartenders had a daughter who had some toys left around the place that they let our daughter play with. Everyone was extremely friendly. The only thing I could do with out would be the smoke, it wasn't horrible or anything I am just not a fan of smoking. The place is defiantly rough around the edges but worth stopping in. We ended up having a great time in this local joint and would definitely recommend it to my friends!! read more

Pitchers of beer cost $10, which I very sincerely enjoy. It's a pretty smoky joint with a very country feel to it--dead animals line the walls (elk, deer, bears...). The owner seems to be a regular (he has a sleeping chair, checks up on the patrons, and wears a cowboy hat). Apparently they also serve breakfast, but at early morning times this place (supposedly!) takes on a more family-oriented nature. On weekends, they clear the tables and there's dancing. If I didn't have a friend who lived down the street from the place, I don't think I'd ever have set foot in this bar, but hey for $10 a pitcher, I sure could sit here and get pretty drunk... read more

I love the Buckhorn. I ride my motorcycle through the hills quite often and I always enjoy stopping at the Buckhorn for a beer and fries, and sometimes a hamburger. The burgers are great, and the staff is always super friendly and laid back. This is definitely a locals place though. It's old and grungy and there's dead animals mounted everywhere. But that's what I think makes it kind of charming. Great place. read more

I came here with my husband and inlaws and its an awesome place. The BBQ smelled AMAZING.... but we were about to go BBQ ourselves so we didn't eat. The drinks were quick and cheap and the service was great. If you are ever driving through its a great watering hole to check out! read more

This place is what it is. It's a local spot with its own charm. It's a dive bar and that doubles as a meeting place with some pretty tasty food. We came in for lunch on the road on a Monday afternoon. Met up with some friends, ordered some pretty good food for a bar and had a beer. My husband played some shuffleboard, the pool was free along with the WiFi. If you are offended by cigarette smoking or animal trophies on walls, this isn't your place.
