After coffee dinner with Peanut Butter Pie
    Lynda C.

I had a beautiful Birthday dinner at the Trading Post recently in a warm weekend evening. We made reservations to sit outside and it was a perfect evening. The atmosphere was beautiful, especially as the sunset and the patio lights came on. They have a water feature that enhances the whole ambiance. The food was terrific. We enjoyed Ribeye steaks, Monterey Chicken and the spinach and cheese raviolis. Standouts for me; the spinach salad with a terrific vinaigrette, fresh baked bread with butter and the Peanut butter Pie! Oh my I would highly recommend.

Incredible service, atmosphere, and food! There is indoor and outdoor dining available. Inside was a little warm today so we opted for the beautiful outdoor patio. You are surrounded by trees and shimmering lights. Awesome evening, we will definitely come back!

This is absolutely the best food in Shaver Lake. The service was great and the ambiance is definitely old school California mountain town. Everything that we ordered on the menu was amazing with the standouts being the escargots, calamari appetizer, spinach salad and ribeye. Make sure and get reservations so you can secure your dinner as this place got busy quick. Cheers.

My family and I were celebrating a family friend's 50th wedding anniversary near Shaver Lake and while we stayed the night, we decided to visit this place in hopes for a snack. Though they don't have a huge appetizer menu, the food was amazing but what made it a 5 starts was the staff and the ambiance of the restaurant. This was an amazing experience from the cook, the bartender, and the servers. Just so happen as we were getting ready to leave, a bear nearly game into the restaurant. It looked into the window for enough time to frighten a few people. I mean, I can't wrestle a bear lol it was a great way to finish the night after meeting some locals and enjoying this place very much. Must try the steak and crispy raviolis.

Mountain town gem. We found this place while having a one day road trip on a Thursday. Warm inviting interior with a nostalgic feel. Came in an hour before food was being served so had a couple cinnamon old fashions while we waited. Bartender was friendly, welcoming and easy to visit with (I'm bad I forgot to write down her name) but thank you for your smiles and conversation. When we sat down to dinner, our server was kind and knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive (again forgot to get a name, man I spaced) She recommended the escargot and she was right, it was scrumptious. Garlicky buttery goodness, served with crusty bread. Dinner came with soup and salad. Chicken noodle was very good, and the spinach feta salad was great with a raspberry vinaigrette. Ribeye we shared, we topped with roasted garlic and had a nice baked potato and vegetables on the side. Decadent lava cake with vanilla ice cream. It was a great dinner, and we look forward to our next trip, when we can spend more time. Thank you for a great escape for my one day off Trading post.

I've always said great people run great businesses. And that is the case at The Trading Post. Owned and operated by the same awesome family that calls the Sawmill and the Mountain Trippers! Tonight we were greeted by Sophia and served by Sierra. Trading Post is your go to spot for fine dining in a rustic building that's been standing since 1927! What? My mother was 2 ok? We love this place. Consistently good at everything from cocktails to apps to entrees. The filet is superb. The fish is great. Tonight Tammy the Tornado is going with her usual filet mignon and I tried the seafood combo. Both meals were spot on. Cooked to perfection. If you enjoy a great dinner and you're in Shaver Lake don't even think for a second. Just go to the Trading Post!

Wow! This place was a great choice after a long day of snowboarding. We started at the bar and the drinks were great, very nice bartender. You get a few courses with your dinner including soup (soup of the day was minestrone), garden salad, veggies, and a baked potato with dinner. Our steaks were cooked to perfection and the sides were great. We finished with the NY style cheesecake and a piece of the chocolate lava cake (both in which were great.) Overall very friendly local staff, and this is even the original building from 1827! A local couple we met ended up treating us to dinner and we were stunned! Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a cozy, filling, local stop!

Unfortunately, upon arrival, we were informed a 45-minute to 1-hour wait for a table. Perturbingly and hungrily, we waited. Our drink order included Modelo Michelada, Peach Lemonade, juice, and milk. First time visiting this spot and so glad I did especially as it's right at the lake. There are 2 separate floors at this restaurant: bottom floor is only open for dinner while the top floor is open for lunch and dinner. Chose to sit at outside patio area to enjoy the lake view and nice weather. Lots of dining tables with nice wall decors. Ordered a rustic reuben (braised corned beef) with sauerkraut and swiss cheese in rye bread. Also served with sweet potato fries. Rustic reuben was so good and savory!! Friendly staff and very courteous. Gotta check out this spot for dinner next time. Will be back when in the area again.

That is exactly what happened during my recent dinner at Elderberry House. I visited with a group of four, and between us, we had two gluten-free diners and one vegetarian. After a quick heads-up the day before, the restaurant handled our needs with total ease. We went for the five-course tasting menu, and it was incredible from start to finish. We kicked things off with one of the best oysters I have ever had, followed by a beautiful tuna presentation. The kitchen even looked out for our gluten-free friends with a special version of their herbal-butter focaccia that was actually delicious. By the time the main courses arrived, I honestly could not decide if I liked my beef or my friend's snap pea risotto better; every single bite was pure perfection. The cocktails were another high point. My first drink was great, but after chatting with our server, Jordan, I decided to try the Last Word. It featured that hard-to-find green chartreuse, and I am a little annoyed to report that I have a new favorite cocktail that requires such a rare ingredient. The service is what really made the night so special. Jordan was so charismatic and helpful, making sure we were perfectly taken care of all evening. He was so good that I almost worried a second visit would not be the same without him, though the rest of the staff quickly put that fear to rest. Abby was so friendly and responsible for a truly unique but perfect-for-the-vibe playlist, and Chris the mixologist even stopped by to geek out about gin and cocktails with us. From the genuine care for our food sensitivities to the clever touch of the iPad check-in hidden in an elegant binder, it was a night for the books. I cannot recommend this place enough and look forward to bringing my family next!

But there was something we had not considered, we were going to be going to a place that required us to be fresh and ready to receive the wonder of place by a lack and we only had the energy for an angry stop at a gas station. So this place I visited when I was tired and that kind of gunked up the experience. If I would have gone with more energy to fully open my eyes than this experience would have been wondrous. When I booked the reservation I did it because it was a place by a lake. I enjoy water front dining and I usually use an ocean for scenery and today I was in a place where I could use a large creek. And since I was not going with any specific expectations that lake hit me like a bucket of wow. I remember like seeing the mouth of the lake going down like actual rocks. Like I was seeing the waters that people raft on with commitment to the outdoors. It felt like I had traveled into a place where trees were purest, bird melodies were the only noise in town (besides the water running in the creek), and cabins belonged to those who called the mountains home. I was in a novel and for some reason I felt like it was written by Twain. And that is really what I can say about this place. That is mostly what I remember the beauty of the creek. I wanted to spend more time there, I could have walked it, they had like a lounge but I did not. But I do remember the forested view that went on, and the roaring, jagged leg being a central character other than that I have small things to say. I remember the salad being ok. Denise and I shared a dish, I can't remember why but we did not eat the whole thing. It was inherently bad. But this could have been an off night, or just not the dish of the place, and really you go here for the lake, and the food was great in some ways just not in this specific way. I went to this place a few weeks ago, and, if I had not make it clear I remember the experience of being with the lake. So go here for that experience and let the rest just fall into place.
