We were in town for a few hours and stopped by for lunch. It was perfect for what we were looking for, enjoying the view of Castel Gondolfo over a bite to eat. My initial feeling is that this is for the view and experience rather than the food or service. I will talk about the view - spectacular. You're sitting in a grape vineyard on a balcony overlooking the gorgeous lake. On clear days, you can see foothill cities and distant mountains, like the day we happen to be there. To just relax and enjoy the view, this is a great spot. The food is also pretty great, but if you're picky about the cuisine or service, then I think there are other places that cater to the ambiance and dining experience. We ordered red wine and they gave us those small cups that Italy can be notorious for, when asked for appropriate red wine glasses, they pushed back, but we insisted and they finally gave them to us. Not the most service oriented bunch, but generally when in Italy, if you insist and provide some decent reasoning, they are willing to oblige. For an appetizer we got the Buffalo Mozzarella. It came out with only the mozarella ball and were were hoping for fresh tomatoes. When asking for the tomatoes, they just poured some sauce on it. The lackluster service theme continues. I ordered a traditional roman pasta and my fiance ordered the meatballs, both were good meals, we were more than happy to eat, but it certainly wasn't the highlight part of our meal. For a relaxing lunch or dinner, absolutely yes. If this is the defining meal of your trip in any capacity, then elsewhere would provide a higher chance of satisfaction. read more

I saw some old Yelp reviews about this place and decided I would give it a try. I didn't have high hopes of the food because I thought it was all about the view. Boy, was I wrong! I had the best lamb chops I've had in Rome! Everything we ordered was delicious, even the insalata mista. The fettuccine alla matriciana was the best pasta we had on this trip as well, with the homemade, slightly chewy pasta. The view of course was spectacular, we had a table on the patio. We talked about how we loved the food and wanted to come back. I highly highly recommend this restaurant, both for the view and the food!!! read more

This is the place to sit and have a wonderful meal with a view of the lake. The service is wonderful and our server was kind enough to give us some history of the area. We got the asparagus and the salty cake dishes. We weren't that hungry and wanted to save room for a bottle of wine. We could not have been happier. This was the highlight of our day trip from Rome. This gem is tucked in a corner off the Main Street but is not to be missed. You must sit on the patio for the most gorgeous views of the lake. The food was, like all my Italian meals, out of this world delicious. The standout was definitely the white lasagna. No where in the states would you ever get that big of truffle shavings. Cafe Bucci also won my heart forever for introducing me to the Scroppino cocktail. The most perfect ending to a roman lunch. read more

I visited on a rainy Sunday afternoon for pranzo after several hours of wandering around Lake Albano. No tables were free on the patio, so I was seated inside. A lucky inconvenience: as the rain picked up, those outside needed to be moved inside. The season and gray skies had kept the tourists away in general, and many of the clientele were obviously locals, known to the ownership and some celebrating various family events. It was also a very inter-generational crowd. All of that, I take as a good sign. The service was quite good. My Italian was worse than their English, and we made do. With each course I indicated in interest in one or two of the items, and asked for the waitress recommendation. For the pasta and the carne, she additionally proposed something else which I ordered. I couldn't have been more pleased with their recommendations, or the meal as a whole. The verdure al gratin (from the regular menu) was simple but so fresh and flavorful. The polpette - veal in a mushroom sauce - were exquisite. The pasta was excellent too, I just couldn't tell you what the wonderful distinctiveness of the cream sauce was. For the dolce I had the wild strawberries with cream, a local specialty - also excellent. The rain picked up just as I was starting on the dolce, so I nursed that and my espresso, killing almost an additional hour before I dared start walking down the hill to my housing in Albano. In sum: food, service, and price - all very good. Bottom line: I look forward to coming back, maybe next time winding up on the patio. read more
