Not many restaurants were open tonight in Castel Gandolfo, but we made a nice little discovery - Il Grottino.
We could have taken a table outside (only 2 available!), but it was rainy so we chose to sit inside - nice, cozy interior, a table by the window overlooking the lake. Beautiful!
My wife and I both had each a plate of porchetta as appetizer: the best we ever had! Succulent.
As a main course, my wife had the fettucini ai funghi porcini (fettucini with procini mushroom), while I took the risotto alla crema di scampi (risotto with shrimps). OK, there was only one shrimp, but both meals were simply delicious.
We also had a bottle of local Frascati wine (Ciccariello), again great.
The wife of the owner speaks very good English (she is from Romania), came to chat with us at the end of the meal, and treated us with local limoncello and biscottis. Lovely.
I don't know if we will ever come back to Castel Gandolfo, but if we do we will certainly come back to Il Grottino! We highly recommend it. read more
