I've been here many times in the past, but no longer live in the area. Now, Bub's is a treat when I'm back in Algonquin! I ordered one El Nino sandwich, and it was fantastic. The girl taking my order was friendly and helpful, as it had been a while (maybe 2-3 years) since I analyzed their menu. I believe that, at one time or another, I tried every sandwich I'd consider ordering, so just went back for the classic. The sandwich? First, tasty beef! Second, fresh made bread. I'm a big fan of subs and Bub's is delish! I ordered a large thinking I'd eat half now and half later BUT when I went to pick up my order, the sub was MASSIVE. I think I ate 1/5 of it before I felt full. It was loaded with meats and toppings, and so effin' tasty. I used to love this place, but recently I visited a couple of times and the bread was not as good as previous visits. The tuna is only available during Lent, and I finally got to try it, and it was way too salty. Also, there are no gluten free bread options, or other bread options. I would recommend offering some type of wrap or something because many friends I go out with, including myself, like wraps now and then. Service: The guys are always friendly. But, the girl with long hair was not wearing a net/hair not pulled back-little concern there since her hair can fall into food. The giardiniera is still fresh and still tastes great! Even though I just went to this restaurant for the very first time, it does not feel like it because the sub sandwiches were so good. I am also glad that I stumbled upon this spot. It is a good thing that I drove near the place, or else I would not have been able to discover it. The place is clean, and it is not a big restaurant; it is small and more like a good spot for a quick sub. The service is great. The staff inside are very friendly and accommodating. The service is also quick. Their menu has a bunch of options for preferred sub sandwiches and more. The prices are also reasonable. I got the Italian beef, and it was huge, with a generous portion of beef. It tastes good too, and a single order is enough to make me feel full and very satisfied. Bubs certainly delivers freshly baked bread, but then adds the best and freshest ingredients for an incredible tasting sammy. I stopped in one day to pick up lunch for my Mom and I. I asked for some suggestions and asked for some suggestions since I was a newbie. I ordered two footlongs- don't judge, I couldn't decide!!! With my eyes much bigger than my stomach, I ordered the Godfather and the Firebird. In one word: amazing. The firebird was a spicy little number with homemade chipotle sauce, pepper jack cheese, turkey, Italian Capicola all nestled in between that soft and chewy bread. It would have been awesome as is, but then they toasted it all warm and melty. Hot damn it was good. The Godfather incorporated classic Italian meats and cheeses: mortadella, that yummy capicola, Genoa Salami, and provolone. I also got a side of the homemade giardiniera. Again, this was absolutely delicious, and would most definitely order again. Dom, the owner is a former H.S. classmate of mine. He takes a lot of pride in his business. He makes a good portion of the ingredients in-house from the sauces, oven roasted turkey, and I believe, that oh-so-yummy bread. The result- happy and full customers. I'll def be back soon. Based on my few visits, I have to give this place 5 stars thus far. The sandwiches are great! - Try the Godfather sandwich! One thing I must mention is that unlike a lot of other places that also have good Italian subs, the oregano and vinegar/oil at Bub's isn't overly spicey - which is a good thing. I love me some Bub's Subs, Love it. They are my favorite subs anywhere and I've been there at least 100 times. But my update review sadly has to take a star away. I have seen all to many times successful places change over time and this is again the case. Not only have the prices increased, but I have noticed the deli meats/cheeses getting smaller and thinner, to where even the workers can't pull pieces apart. Even the veggies are sliced smaller and thinner, and they are putting a lot less on each sub. I have had to ask almost everytime now for more lettuce, more peppers, etc... not because I'm a pig, but because I know what a bubs sub used to be, filled with veggies. For the prices of the subs now and less meat/veggies I don't find it a great value anymore. But i still love them. We've been dying to try Bub's Subs since we moved into the area 2 years ago. I'm not sure what's taken us so long, but I will say that it's taken a whole lot less than 2 years to go back for more! My hungrier half and I were looking for something to eat for lunch, and we both decided that we had put off trying out Bub's Subs for far too long. What the heck, right? They've got fancy beefs. They've got hot subs. They've got cold subs, but you won't find any day old subs. The menu has 15 subs for your eating pleasure, and they also boast homemade gardinera (which is pretty darn tasty, if I do say so myself). The subs contain different variations of the same few meats, but the few combinations that I have have all been winners. One big minus for our family is that Bub's doesn't have Swiss cheese (wah wah). I got the Club Bub, minus the cheese, and the hubs got the El Nino. The subs are a generous size; we were both satisfied with the regular size. No need to shell out the extra bucks for the large unless you haven't eaten in days or you're a 13 year old boy. 2 subs set us back just under $14, which isn't too shabby in my opinion. Bubs impressed us enough for me to seek an encore a few weeks later with my parent. This time, we got a B.L.Turkey (wanted Swiss, settled for mozarella), the Americano, and the Fire Bird. Each sub got a thumbs up from his or her respective eater. I will give a shout out to the chipotle mayo. I love that stuff. I love it so much that I want to take it out behind the bleachers and get it pregnant (props to you if you get the reference). Sure Bubs Subs might look like a silly knock off of Quiznos, but let me assure you, they're the real deal. read more

Came here for a quick lunch after shopping on a saturday. There menu is pretty big, it was hard to pick just one sandwich to order. I had plenty of time though because this was probably the slooooowest service I've ever had at a sandwich shop. I had to wait 10 mins before I even got to order my sandwich....that's a little long. Even after I ordered my #13, it was probably another 10 mins before I even left the store. So if your looking for a quick bite to eat this is NOT the place. The actual sandwich was pretty good. Finally, a kick butt sub shop in the area. Bub's cuts all their own meats and cheeses in house, makes their own Italian beef and best of all bakes their own bread. The bread is downright awesome; nice crust, tender interior, not too chewy it doesn't overwhelm the sandwich fillings. Speaking of which, these subs are simply overflowing with the freshest meats, cheeses, toppings, spreads and HOMEMADE giardinara. Like the other ingredients made in house, the giardinara is superb. It is fresh tasting, crunchy, acidic and not overpoweringly spicy. It's vinegar and spice is able to cut through the richness of the bread and the unctuousness of the meats and cheeses. Next time I am in I plan to see if I can buy some to keep in my fridge. Now the only reason I have rated Bubs with 4 stars instead of 5 is that I haven't had the opportunity to sample more of their offerings. After I try more of their sandwiches (which I plan to do soon), I will update this review and I fully expect the rating to go from 4 to 5 stars. The owner is very cool and easy to talk to. If we're just talking subs this place is great. Fresh meat, fresh bread and a variety of delicious sandwiches to choose from. I'll take this over Subway, Jimmy Johns or any other chain sub joint any day. Food quality is definitely an A. The grub is a little pricey, but that's to be expected at a small sub shop that delivers high quality food. Where Bubs falls short is in the service category. I'm not sure where they find these people who work there but I've never seen a slower moving, more unenthusiastic bunch of high school/college age "bros" in my life. Every time I've been into Bubs there's been a line of people waiting for their food and the guys behind the counter move at somewhere between tortoise and slug pace. Seriously? Pick it up, gents. If I didn't have to wait so long for my food I'd probably hit Bubs a little more often. As it is I'd rather swing through Chipotle right across the street and be on my way home in a timely manner. Super, super good and you can get your sub toasted or not. Freshly made roasted garlic mayo and giardinera are terrific. Have had a few of the subs (Italian, ham and turkey) and they are all delicious. I would ask them to provide a small (mini?) sub for kids or those that don't want to eat that much and to find a bakery for gluten free bread. My husband wants to enjoy your work as well. Place is pretty good. I think the rating they have here is high. I went in and got the #1 which is the Italian beef with house made spicy giardiniera and spicy mayo with pepper jack cheese. I got the regular size which is about 5". It was $8 for just the sandwich. The large is around 11" and $14. That's pretty high for a sub. The bread was great. The meat was OK to good. The giardiniera was good but not spicy. Biggest knack I have on the sandwich is it is an Italian beef... give me options on how I want it. They served it dry as a bone. I don't need it falling apart from gravy, but I would go with that over a super dry hot beef. Maybe it's my personal preference. All in all it was a decent sandwich that was overpriced in my opinion. I agree, a bit overrated. The food was good, especially if you're looking for something other than your typical Jimmy John's and Subway routine. I had the El Nino (#1), the heat gave the sandwich a unique taste however the beef was unfortunately just average. I feel a bit of spice even salt and pepper could've brought all the flavors together. Their shop is nice, we sat outside, a very nice option. Also my fiancee thanks you for offering packaged cookies as an option instead of the rack of potato chips (she is allergic to potatoes). Bub's Subs isn't one of those places I'd recommend you'd "have" to eat at if you're in the area. But rather an option if you are growing a bit tired of Jimmy's and Subway. I figured these other reviews were done by friends, which for some reason is what I often think about places with a small number of reviews. I was wrong. I know the place is fairly new, which is why there are not many reviews. No shit, you're probably saying. I talked to the owner of this place, a good guy, and he reminds me of myself, a "Foodie". Like me, he can often tell you what restaurant you are talking about if you can't remember the name, or recommend a great restaurant for a particular type of food you are looking for.
