Came for a visit Sunday evening close to closing so it was slow but James our server still made us feel very welcome. I ordered the Binder which is a burger between two grilled cheese sandwiches. I live right across the border in the US and came through the tunnel just to come here! If you haven't been here you need to try it! Especially if you're a garlic lover. Their housemade garlic sauce is a must have! Everyone that works here is really friendly and awesome. They have the best tasting Mountain Dew too that comes in a giant mason jar. I was totally a fan of this place until they brought my side salad out in a stainless steel dog bowl! WTH?! The salad was stuffed into this little bitty puppy bowl and it was a tad annoying with lettuce pieces falling out of the bowl as I was trying to mix it with the dressing in this cramped bowl! Aside from that, this is a cool spot though once you figure out how to get in and find your way to the seating. It has the feel of being in someone's old basement, but not in a bad/grimey way. One cool thing is the various options for seating: patio, upper level, main floor. The server was cool. It was pretty empty and it seemed that she was wearing dual hats of server + hostess. She was polite and efficient and most importantly didn't check on me a dozen times. There really is no need to (for refills anyway) when you serve beverages in mason jars;-) I had the chicken gyro with the wedge fries. The fries were really good, tasted like home. The pita was very fresh and the chicken in my gyro was perfectly tender. Searching thru the menu was kind of overwhelming. It is a book and offers Mexican, wraps, items "from the wok", BBQ ribs, lasagna. Pretty much whatever random dish, sampling from whatever corner of the world is what the menu consists of. And of course burgers and wraps. The variety is great and all, but just when you think you know what you want, there is another page. There were 15 categories of food items! This place is indeed kinda awesome considering all the items that they offer and the food was decent. I liked the atmosphere with the funky blues music playing in the background... Bubi has been the buzz every time I'm in Windsor n today after a long day of shopping, my boyfriend n his mom had decided to finally go. Despite the horrible freezing rain in Windsor, it didn't stop the hungry people from rollin' into this joint. Upon waiting for a table, I noticed a poster advertising the grasshopper brand of beer. I definitely love this beer n had to order it. My bf n his mom ordered a water which came in a giant big mason jar. This hidden gem had a spectacular menu, filled with a variety of different options from burgers, sammies to salads. I ordered half a rack of ribs with a poutine, my bf ordered the baja burger with a side of fries n my bf's mom ordered the basic burger w/ a side of onion rings. We had also ordered a basic burger with onion rings to go as well. Although the restaurant was busy, my party waited 50 minutes for our food to arrive. The family of six who came in slightly after us, ordered their food, ate and left even before our meal had arrived. I understand if a restaurant is busy n if the food takes a bit longer to arrive, but it would have been great if the server came over to let us know the meal was still coming n that we weren't forgotten. The food arrived n everything tasted amazing. The fries were extremely fresh n crispy. My ribs had the right amount of sauce n fell right off the bone. The onion rings were extraordinarily delicious with the best batter I've ever had. Once the meal was over, I was so full that I couldn't move. The dessert menu that they offered had a variety of different cheesecakes. I ordered one to go n asked for the bill. The server had let us know that the take out would be out shortly. The price of the food was pretty standard n comparable to all the restaurant in Downtown Toronto. As we were waiting for the take-out, my bf had left to warm the car up. We waited about 10 minutes after paying for the bill n our server was no where to be seen. I went back to the bar to inquire about the take-out n I finally bumped into our server again. I love garlic. So naturally, I like eating here. They make a great garlic sauce, and now that I don't live in Windsor anymore, I'm glad that I can take it home. The reason I say it's only "A-OK" though, is because every time I do come the service gets worse and the food portions get smaller, while the prices go up. The food is still good, and they have a great patio, but sometimes the servers forget you out there. read more

Not sure if they just have poor service and suck at keeping track of customers or if it is because we're not Canadian or white. But the food was good. We all ordered burgers ( I ordered a veggie burger) and fries and they were delicious. If the food was not good I would have given this place a 1. Good food so it gets a three. Bubi's is A-OK in my book. I didn't have the best meal of my life here but I didn't have the worst either. It is pretty good for what it is--a causal joint for a cheap-ish dinner. I had a burger here which was pretty tasty but, again, nothing earth shattering. Perhaps I should have gone for one of their fancier burgers (like the Black Olive Almond Pesto) but I'm kind of a purist when it comes to burgers. I just like meat, cheese, some onions, ketchup and mustard. That's all I need to make me happy and this burger sort of delivered. I judge a good burger on whether or not I push myself to finish it even if I'm really full and...well...I didn't finish it. But I ate a lot of it so it was pretty good. The onion rings were quite tasty. I filled up on more of those than my burger. I also split the strip teasers appetizer with my friends and those were good. Strips of steak served with Bubi's sauce and pita points. Now, I will give them props for the Bubi's sauce. That is quite tasty! Super garlicky and creamy. Reminds me a bit of the garlic sauce you'd find at Middle Eastern joints but maybe a little more aoili like? If you like garlic you're probably going to like your time at Bubi's. I ordered a diet coke and it came out in a HUGE mason jar. I like that touch. I also ordered a slice of the cherry cheesecake which again was just all right. I liked it well enough but I didn't push myself to finish it. I did have bites of my friend's peanut butter chocolate cheesecake and a huge chocolate cake and those were much better. Next time I'd stick to my tried and true chocolate. The prices were pretty good and the night we went they had a burger special so my burger was hella cheap. The service was pretty spotty. We sat on the patio and more than a couple of times we were looking for our server wondering where he had gone off to. But the patio seating was nice, especially since it was a lovely evening out. Two of us were driving aimlessly in this neighbourhood when we spotted Bubi's sign. Neither of us had heard of the joint (despite signs out front stating "As Seen on the Food Network"), so it piqued our interest. The restaurant itself doesn't have parking, but right next to it (Jannette and University) there's a city parking lot with very reasonable rates ($1.50/hr). The restaurant definitely has a "roadhouse" vibe to it. It's not fancy, but what it doesn't have in style it makes up for with friendly, attentive staff and good food. We were greeted almost immediately and advised to sit anywhere we wanted..so we went to their upper section of the restaurant where, within a minute, the bartender came by with menus and took a drink order. Pops come in the largest mason jars I've ever seen...must be just under 1/2 litre. I've never not finished a pop at a restaurant but this one beat me down, they're that big! I ordered their green curry chicken noodle stir fry on rice noodles, my dining companion ordered a cheeseburger with fries. Food was out in a very reasonable time frame and portion size was alarmingly huge. My stir fry was not bad, but did not impress. I found the dish lacked heat (flavour, not temperature) ..it was a bit too sweet for my liking. There was ample sauce (garlic, ginger, peanut flavours), but not enough noodles. The stir fry consisted of red peppers, broccoli, carrots, cabbage and onions, all resting on a bed of very thin rice noodles. Don't get me wrong..it wasn't horrendous..I guess I was expecting more heat and noodles. My partners cheeseburger was massive, with a mound of freshly grated cheddar on top. He said it was excellent but a tad overcooked (not moist). His fries (more like wedges) were not hot, but warmish. He did say the burger itself was deliscious and he struggled to finish his meal as the portion size was huge. Several different staff members stopped by to ensure everything was ok. What a great place! Awesome for our large group, and the food selection is phenomenal. Staff are great, always smiling, and able to answer any question in a matter of seconds. Asked the waitress what burger she would recommend and instantly told me three top sellers! I especially like the large mason jars for drinks. One thing I hate when going to a restaurant is the small glasses and not quick enough refills. A large mason jar eliminates this, and to be honest this made my experience that much better. So I use to go to Bubi's every so often for the Stripteasers -- strips of beef in this awesome BBQ sauce with their awesome fries and of course, Bubi's sauce....but it was always hit or miss with this place. So eventually I forgot all about Bubi's and never really went back. But one day I was driving by and saw the sign about they were featured on the Food Network. So I googled it and found the episode. I figured that I would give them a try again... I went for lunch with a few colleagues from work. They all saw the video from the show and 3 out of 5 of us decided to order the Best of the Breast (see pic) One person ordered the Thai Coconut dish (see pic) and the other ordered a wrap. Service was good, so no complaints there and the food came pretty quick. Portions are generous --- not a single person finished their food. I ordered the Best of the Breast and for some reason I felt like it had a funny after taste to it. I ate it, but it wasn't something I particularly cared for. As for the fries, they've changed them since I was last there. They use to be these wedge cut fries and they were awesome with the Bubi's sauce. But now they're really greasy and cut differently...kind of reminded me of a greasy KFC French fry, but a little thicker. Nonetheless, the Bubi's sauce was pretty good. The other two people who ordered the chicken strips said they were good, but it didn't seem like they were too crazy about them. My coworker who ordered the Thai dish enjoyed her meal, as well as the other one who ordered the wrap. But I didn't try either of their meals, so I can't really give my opinion on them. I agree with some of the other reviews that this place is over-hyped. I wouldn't recommend this place, but I wouldn't convince anyone not to eat here either. Ordered take-out awhile ago... my order was Best of the Breast which are meaty chicken fingers. When I picked it up, I dealt with an unprofessional take-out waitress, she was flippant. I didn't notice the line items on the receipt when I paid for it, but when I got home, I noticed that they charged me $6.00 for a maybe a 1/3 cup sized container of plum sauce. I went here on June 28th as a graduation gift for my boyfriend. He LOVES Bubi's so I thought "Why not?". I've never been to Bubi's before so I was confused at how to get around to our tables and whatnot. But my boyfriend's got my back so I didn't look totally stupid. We sat at a table for two and given our menus. OH MY GOD. The menus. WHY ARE THEY SO LONG?! This was one of many times that I've encountered restaurants with a ridiculously long menu. Our waiter (who was so sweet and patient) had to come back three times to ask us if we were ready because we were so indecisive. I finally settled on the Chicken Tomato Thai Skinny Noodle and my boyfriend got the Fiesta Bubi's. Our waiter brought us our food and asked if he could do anything else for us. I said a smile and he flashed us a dazzingly one. It was funny. Anyway, our food. It probably wasn't helping that my tummy was already starting to hurt. I had a cold and whatnot already. My order was delicious! But 3/4 of my meal was chunks of tomatoes, chicken, peppers, etc. I barely had any of the skinny noodles. I had to dig to find the noodles :/ That was disappointing. The garlic bread that accompanied my meal was DELICIOUS. I could eat it forever! My boyfriend really liked his order (he's so lazy he won't go into detail). We had our food packed and then we went to pay. OKAY. BECAUSE I'M SO UNOBSERVANT, I walked down the stairs and then walked to the windows and pushed against it. I forgot you had to turn to your right and to exit. I WAS SO EMBARRASSED AND PEOPLE WERE STARING. Oh my goodness. I kind of said aloud "That's not the door...!", looked over to where my boyfriend is waiting for me at the CORRECT and ONLY door and ran out. My GF is from Windsor and she absolutely adores this place.. I mean she honestly LOVES it. They were also just featured on "You Gotta Eat Here" on Food Network apparently although I'm not completely sure what items would have been featured on the show. Certainly couldn't have been their french fries which were frozen and from a bag for sure. We went just last week, my first visit, and my thoughts are mixed.. I think the place is pretty gimmicky really. Burger was on the small side (although you can upgrade to a bigger size for more money.. default burger is only 5oz. which is too small IMO), smaller than it should be especially for the money. No pink left in it which makes me a little skeptical about whether they are even fresh ground or not, but it's still a decent burger. Fries as mentioned above were very bland, boring and definitely frozen.. The "garlic sauce" that people seem to love here is a bad accompanyment for the fries in my opinion and seems like something that should be on a shawarma rather than served with your fries, but she loves it, so it's definitely YMMV Beer was affordable and ice cold which was nice, Steamwhistle on tap will always make me a happy camper A solid 3 to 3.5 stars IMO although I'm a little perplexed about how this place would make it onto the Food Network... My friends and I stumbled across this place on google maps, it had good reviews and we didn't know much about the food in Windsor. Fantastic Burgers, one of the best ive had in a while (and I'm from Wisconsin where we do burgers right). Homemade fries, which were a little different at first bite but then were really good after a couple. Also good homemade catch up too (yes that's how they spelt it) Little steap in price but well worth it. If you get a soda you get it in a big mason jar. Great beer selection I wanted to try them all. Windsor's all time classic burger joint is hands-down Bubi's Awesome Eats. I can remember my mother taking me there when I was no more than 12 years old ... so a long long time ago ;). First of all, Bubi's is known for 2 more things besides its crazy-ass range of burger options, and that's GARLIC GARLIC GARLIC sauce and frozen yogurt fruit smoothies (that are more like a thick healthy pick your fruit version of a Dairy Queen blizzard) ... both are simply Awesome ... but I digress . . . this is about burgers. I recall as a high school punk there was a "hinden" burger weighing in at 2 lbs ... and a "gonzo hinden" burg tipping the scales at a whopping 4 lbs. This is more like a giant slab of meat loaf on a loaf of bread. Now the added sham-mockery of taunting any poor soul into actually ordering this $35 burger is that if you actually do FINISH it ... it's free ... and hell, they'd put your picture up on the wall. Now I know what you're saying - who the hell could finish that??? - well, it turns out quite a few ppl could. On several occassions, one of my school's football players - Jeff St. Louis ... but everyone called him Jake. Hence, the "Jake St. Louis" burger at 6 lbs was born! Jezuz H ppl would say. WTF?!?!?! Being a University student I have been to Bubi's many times. I went last week for the first time in a year or so and everything was the same. Loved the burger I got, as well as the App of pizza crusts (main reason I went I think). The salad I got that came in a weird metal bowl, which I wasn't a fan of, but something very unique, doesn't really bother me. I like the menu's. I have a feeling that the entire story is made up, but still something nice to read when you wait to be served. The ketchup bottles are interesting.... When you see them you will know what I mean. The food is excellent, as well as the wait staff. The guy who served me seemed like he was about to clock in his 60th hour for the week, but was very enthusiastic and did a great job. Food came out extremely fast. I don't feel I could eat the food EVERY week, as like I could some of my local favorites, but I suggest this restaurant to anyone. read more

Overall it was as expected, it offers an assortment of menu items, we came for lunch so we didn't dive into the larger meals. The iced teas came is huge mason jars, and we're frosted. We tried their traditional pizza crusts and it could have been a meal in itself. Hot, tasty, with their special garlic dip. Tried their chicken tenders, they were fresh made and had some flavour. Also tried their onion rings based on past reviews and they were disappointing. We also had their Lean and Green salad with chicken. Very fresh ingredients. read more

This is a good place to eat in Windsor. I have been here twice and it was really yummy both times. They have this special sauce that is full of garlic and I think it has anchovies in it. It is amazing...but be sure to take garlic loving friends with you when you go. I had Cevapi and I love it! It is kind of like kafta, but it has pork, lamb, beef and spices. I think they said it was a Balkan recipe. It was served with the yummy sauce, tomatoes, onions and warm pita pieces. Delish! Definately worth going to. They have a huge menu and lots to choose from. As pretentious as it sounds, Bubi's has become a bit of a paradox. They very proudly put right in their menu how, 30 years ago,they bucked major trends and re-invented the hamburger with their amazing revolutionary garlic sauce. Way to go, Bubi's. You really did create something new and unique. But if you're trying to sound like the type of place that's bold and different then you've got to keep re-inventing yourself. It doesn't really sound like you've done anything new and different since that big, bold step 30 years ago. Which is why I am only occasionally in the mood for Bubi's. It offers something different, yes. But it's always the same. So, if I find myself in fear of a vampire attack, I'll go eat there and reek of garlic for an indefinite period of time, afterwards. I'm sure there are items on the menu that aren't smothered in their garlic sauce. I haven't found them, yet. And while I'm not complaining about the taste of the sauce (it is quite delicious), I am tired of the fact that it overpowers any other flavor that your food was meant to have. Which means that, no matter what you order, the food all kinda tastes the same. Which, to me, makes for a frustrating dining experience. If I'm ordering the same thing every time (which is something I am known to do at certain places that I frequent - they will actually call out: "Your usual, Rob?" as I walk in!) then I can't complain. But it does disenchant me a bit that I have tried something different every time I go into Bubi's in the vain hope that I will find some degree of variance in flavor but still just get a great big wallop of garlicky goodness. Which is why it loses a few stars in its rating. Having said all that, I will add that Bubi's does offer some of the best service you will find in Windsor. Excellent waitstaff - friendly, attentive and efficient. You even have to compliment the cooks for their sensitivity. Bubi's has a weird kitchen set-up (which is something else that should maybe have changed after 30 years). If you're sitting on the second floor then you can hear anything being said in the kitchen as clear as day. Having worked in a kitchen or two, I know that cooks and chefs can say the most horrid of things. But they seem to be aware that their voices project into the dining area and never say anything legitimately offensive. They're still very smarmy and sarcastic, of course. But that's part of working in a kitchen! But as good as your staff might be - that's just window dressings. Restaurants should be all about the food, first. In fact, I'll put up with a bit of bad service if the food is worth it. But there is a fundamental flaw to Bubi's menu that they need to fix. It might even be as simple as telling the waitstaff to place a greater emphasis on making the garlic sauce optional. By no means do I think this place is terrible. But, because it is so married to its sauce, I'm only in the mood for it from time to time... read more

Bubi's (pronounced Bubby's) is a long-serving restaurant in Windsor Ontario with an appropriate level of enthusiasm for garlic. Although, sadly, they're no longer open late enough for an after-bar stop, I always appreciated having the option of more interesting menu items even in the dark days before Windsor's culinary awakening. This place is huge and has a beautiful patio I always enjoyed frequenting in the summer. Order anything with Bubi's sauce, which tastes like garlic with garlic added and is especially good with sweet potato fries, for the full Bubi's experience. The burgers are always good and come in multiple sized patties (they always have one on the menu that is so big no one has ever finished it) and for a lighter meal I always enjoyed pairing the cevapi (*so* good) with a salad. Bubi's has been a Windsor institution since the late 1980s. Until recently, it's deserved its great reputation for awesome food and fun atmosphere. Lately, it appears the recession is taking its toll, because the service is painfully slow. And I say that knowing Bubi's isn't fast food. They make the food fresh, so it takes time. I appreciate that. What I don't appreciate is the 10 minutes it took for our waiter to pop by the table to take our drink order. And the 15 more minutes it took for him to take our dinner order. And after asking for the check, well, we just got up and looked for the waiter after another 10 minutes of waiting. Worse than that, the place isn't all that clean. I tend not to eat on outdoor patios because I hate being hassled by bugs. Well, Bubi's gives you all the inconvience of eating outside when you dine in -- my table was surrounded by little fruit fly type bugs the entire meal, most likely drawn to the poorly, infrequently wiped tables. The staff is very courteous and eager to please, but the tough times have taken their toll, it seems -- the last two times I've been to Bubi's it's been very clear they simply don't have enough staff on duty. Bubi's is suppose to be a Windsor treasure that's even been on the food network! (you gotta eat here) It's a nice place with super friendly staff and hearty food. The only thing is I think I had too high of expectations. Don't get me wrong, it was great but a tad bit overrated. I ended up getting a veggie burger with fries that were "dilloned" which is some Parmesan and garlic topping on the fries, everything was served with the side garlic sauce. The garlic sauce was awesome 10/10. The Dillon fries were good but not as amazing as I though they would be. I wish they used a steak cut fry or some sort of better fry to make it better 7/10. The veggie burger patty wasn't great. It was a TVP (texturzed vegetable protein) patty and I really didn't enjoy it. It's hard to explain but I didn't enjoy the taste, the toppings and bread were delicious though 5/10. But other that that, my friends meals looked great and they really enjoyed them. The beer selection was terrific, had a very very delicious Hawaiian beer on tap (forgot the name :( ) . And the staff was great! read more

Bubis has been a Windsor favourite for years. They are famous for their garlic sauce which is delicious. I was a bit disappointed in the changes they made to their fries however... I used to pay extra to order "Dillon fries" which was their fries covered in Parmesan and garlic omg sooo crazy good. This used to be especially amazing on the big potato wedges as there was more surface area for the toppings to stick to. Now they have switched to regular skinny French fries and getting them as Dillon fries is not as satisfying.... Everything falls off... The only reason I can think for the switch is to save money as wedges use more potatoes? I really didn't like the change and have not been back since. I have had their burgers, nachos and the best of the breast chicken fingers which are very very tasty dipped in garlic sauce. My mom usually orders the veggie burger and it is really really good. Overall it's a fun place with great food but it just disappointing to go back to your favourite place and have them change a good thing. read more

Bubi's mediocre eats. There is a lot of garlic, like, it's as if they got on TV and decided that suddenly everything had to be garlic with a side of garlicky garlic. Some people like garlic, I don't. I don't want a poutine covered in garlic, I want a poutine that's not garlicky at all. Overall, my friends and I killed a bee here and the iced tea was alright. Who likes garlic? I LOVE garlic! I know it may sound disgusting having your breathe smell heavily of garlic, but if you love the taste and don't mind the smell, this is the restaurant for you! With pub-like decor and mostly natural lighting, this place is a pretty cool spot to visit on a nice summer day, as they have a pretty nice patio. Located in a quieter spot just outside the downtown core, this is a great spot to just hang out and grab some nice eats! Bubi's has a clear motive with their food. There is garlic in everything, or at least close to everything. They incorporate garlic into their dishes perfectly, and even give you more garlic cloves if you want it. With amazing burgers, lots of different sides to choose from, and gigantic portions, this is an awesome choice if that's where your taste buds are headed. Service is really great here, very attentive servers and very informative when you have any questions. They also have some pretty unique beers which you can always ask the server about. With good food and good service (and garlic everywhere), if you are looking for something like that or something new to try out, I would definitely give this place a shot! read more

Didn't expect such great food and the different twist on traditional foods, the atmosphere was cool (different then ur traditional franchise restaurants)I can see why they were featured it on The Food Network. Great service! At first we waited for a server to seat us, but after that, the server checked in on us all the time. I got the steak quesadilla, which was good but not worth $15. The BBQ steak was delicious! The fries were also pretty good. Also, free wifi was a plus. read more
