i used to have a go to girl in san antonio. i miss her so much. anyway i really needed a touch up, so i ended up here since it was close to my place. i made an appt. i walked in and the lady wasnt the nicest, but not rude either. a white, older gentleman walked in behind me and was offered a drink while i waited for my stylist to (very slowly make her way up -- i can see u lol what are u doing) she obviously wasnt feeling like doing anything .. I GET IT. i hate work, too. welcome to everyone in the world! ANYWAY, so no drink was offered to me but i get it, i was in sweats and i didnt have makeup on and i'm not white so maybe i just look like i wouldnt tip well? which i still ended up giving at $20 but that's ony because i didnt have more cash on me. smh. service was just ok. there was dye all over my forehead and i said "can u wipe that off so it doesnt stain" she told me it wouldnt stain - yeah NO - NOT FOREVER but guess who had nice stains on their forehead for a few days??? me! lol then i had to explain to people at work that i look young but i had to get my whites done which is why i have this stupid staining on my head UGHH ANYWAY lmaoo 2 stars because i wasnt treated the best. my demi is holding up fine (its been a few weeks) but i don tknow if it was worth the 100+ i ended up spending. i will DEFINITELY find somewhere else to go when i'm due for another touch up read more

Absolutely terrible service. My wife was given an appointment for 3:15. When she got there the receptionist first claimed that her appointment was for 3 (it wasn't). Then she said that she called my wife at 3:08 (she didn't). Lots of lies and no apology, when clearly either the receptionist double booked or the hair stylist decided to favor another client. I brought 2 teenage girls here for a special blowout before their homecoming dance. When I called on the phone to make the appointments, I was quoted a price for $35 for a wash and style. This is the same price as Flow down the street (which was my first choice, but booked), so I made the appointments. Both girls got basic traditional blowouts - smooth with big barrel curls at the bottom. They were quoted upcharges for braids, but decided against that due to the steep prices. When we checked out, I was told that the price was $45 for each because there was an additional $10 charge each for using a curling iron or flat iron. I have never heard of being charged additional for using basic styling tools, especially when I was already quoted a $35 price and they had very basic styles! I have had blowouts at several salons both in the area, in NYC and LA and I have never been charged anywhere else for using a curling iron or flat iron. While the service they got was fine, I would not return here and just stick with Flow Blow Dry Bar where they do great blowouts and have very clear and set prices for each style. Review is solely for Maria, whom I've seen for years. I been to loads of different salons, having lived different places or because Maria is often booked, and she is the best hair stylist I've had, hands down. Asian hair shows imperfections, but she manages mine like the pro she is. I'm not an easy client- I tell her that I never blow dry my hair, so I need a style that will air-dry well and wont lie limply (as is the case with straight hair). I showed her a picture, and asked her what she thought was best. She actually told me she thought LONGER was better than shorter (for those who worry when stylists cut hair too short), and gave me the haircut I was looking for with alterations to suit my hair type, face shape, and routine. Show her what you want and ask her what she thinks. I left with side bangs, and loads of imperceptible layers that give me movement and body. It somehow looks super sleek, and will look fantastic after air-drying or blow drying. Side note: once I disagreed with her opinion, and she listened to me and cut it my way. Get yourself a stylist that listens to you and knows what she's doing. The salon facilities are nothing to write home about, so those seeking a spa-like experience or luxurious amenities will be disappointed. I'd ordinarily dock a star for the facilities but I don't want that to reflect upon Maria. Also, I am there for Maria's skilled transformative hair makeovers rather than fancy digs. Price for a chop of nearly waist-length hair to shoulder-length hair was $65, which is reasonable. Higher end salons charge much more for long hair so I'm satisfied with the price. read more

A friend referred me to go see Shawn Price at the Reston location and I absolutely loved my new hair cut and highlights. Shawn is so experienced and professional and made me look 10 years longer!!! I would go all day if I could on how great this place is! I wanted to find a salon at which I could become a regular.. and I found it! I called in for a cut and deep conditioning, with no stylist in mind. But, when I specified that I had thick, curly hair, they set me up with Ingrid. Now let me just say.. Ingrid is AMAZING! She has curly hair herself and her hair was on point! She did an amazing job with the cut AND conditioning treatment. As well as knocking it out of the park with her recommendation of styling products for curly hair. I liked her skills (and hair) so much I bought the styling cream right then and there! I made an appointment for an updo for the opera. When I arrived, the stylist said she did not know how to do an updo style. No other stylists were available. So, 2 hours before my event I was scrambling around for someone to do the style. Thankfully, Ellada at Northpointe Shopping Center in Reston accommodated me and did a spectacular job. I will NEVER go to Bubbles again. The customer service experience was horrible and the manager and stylist should be fired. read more

Let me start off with the good. Both Katherine and Jenny are great! I have gotten highlights done a couple of times by Katherine and once by Jenny when Katherine wasn't available and have been very happy. I wanted thin, natural looking highlights and they both understood and delivered on that request. However, my last experience there was pretty frustrating. I scheduled an appointment online for full highlights and a haircut. Since the stylist I wanted wasn't available and I had a pretty tight timeframe on the day I wanted the appointment (was going to a wedding later that night), I selected "Any stylist" on the scheduling site. Apparently this caused me to be scheduled with one stylist for highlights (Jenny) and another for a haircut. I didn't think anything of it at the time, since it really didn't matter to me who would be doing my hair as long as I got the timeslot I wanted. I got a call later that week prior to the appointment from the receptionist, letting me know that I inadvertently got scheduled with two different people, and whether I meant to do this or not. I told her that whichever way works best for them - I would be ok with. Whether it meant to keep the appointment as is or for them to use their judgement and assign both tasks to the same stylist. She assured me this would be taken care of and that 'that's fine' - whatever that meant. On the morning of the appointment, it seemed that nothing was really done to remedy the situation because again we discussed the fact that I was scheduled with two different people, blah blah blah, but 'that's ok'. The highlight part goes great. I get my hair washed, and asked to sit in the dryer area and wait for my haircut appointment. Apparently the lady who was assigned to do my haircut is in the middle of an updo appointment, but I figure since they said she will be right with me, she is almost done. I sit and wait.. 15 mins go by. Then 20, and 30. I realize the lady plans to finish the updo before she does my haircut. I ask the front desk whether there is anyone else available who can do the haircut. Jenny is now busy with another client, and there is noone else available, so it appears I have to wait. Finally, 40 MINS LATER, I can no longer wait because I have to go home to get ready to go to the wedding, so I go ahead and pay and leave, with wet hair and with no haircut. If I had known I would have had to wait that long, I wouldn't have stayed. I would have appreciated if someone let me know after my highlights were done how long it would take for me to get someone to cut my hair. Your stylists are great and I realize this situation wasn't their fault, but your administrative staff needs to do a better job. -------------------------- Update on 5/19: To give management some credit, Heather the manager did reach out and offer me a free haircut which I appreciated! read more

I think the girl I went to is Tristy or something like that. I have a weave that I had done somewhere else. I paid over $400 for 18 inches of beautiful hair. All I wanted when I came in was a slight cut of two inches. I physically showed her how much I wanted her to cut it. By the time I realized what she was doing, it was too late. My hair is now above my shoulders. She took off at least 10 inches of my hair. How she managed to do that when I gave very specific instructions is beyond me. I was planning on reusing this hair a couple of times, but I can't do that now since she ruined it. Never going back here. read more

Got a pretty drastic cut from boring shoulder level length to an angled bob with high bangs from Germano. He made sure I was completely sure and did an amazing job with it. The other workers were really pleasant as well and even offer water/coffee while you wait. Totally appreciated since it was a pretty warm afternoon and I was early. Didn't have to wait long, and the wash was quick and not harsh like some other places can sometimes do. Totally would recommend going and try to get Germano, he was very sweet and precise. The price also isn't bad for northern VA prices (I'm used to cheaper Cleveland prices so it was nice finding this place which wasn't too high), came to $50 (before tip), but they do seem to prefer cash tips so if you go there, they might appreciate that instead of tip on the card. Laura, the stylist, seems really nice and talented. She was polite with my mom and did a great job. I was not impressed with the tone of the receptionist. She was curt and had an impatient tone of voice when answering my mom's call and answering her questions. My mom speaks with an accent and she seemed to be annoyed at having to listen to her. When I spoke (sans accent) the receptionist was just a tad courteous The staff also stands at the counter and gossips about the patrons and each other. If you can, I recommend paying a little more and going to PR and Partners or Maude in Herndon. read more

I drive an hour to see Heather at Bubbles of Reston and it is well worth the trip. The rest of the staff are friendly and I enjoy chatting with all of them. She is always willing to try something new and fun with cuts or hair colors.I've been seeing Heather for several years now and followed her from the Herndon Bubbles when she became the manger here. She fixed my hair when I had the "great" idea to color it from red to blonde and I have to say my hair has never looked better. She cuts both my husband and my hair doing an awesome job on both! She lets me know about new products but is. It pushy about it and has introduced me to several greats ones that have made a real difference in my thin hair. read more

I don't know why I keep going back here thinking my next experience is gonna be better. I went in a couple days ago asking for some highlights that were natural and that highlighted my natural color. I said specifically that I did not want to walk out looking blonde. The highlights turned out very unnatural looking with high contrast and a way too light of a shade. The GOOD thing about bubbles is they will put a toner in your hair to tone it down, free of charge (it's normally $30). I was very thankful for that. Overall however, it was not worth the $80 + tip. You can get amazing highlights from Maude for $45 from one of their rookie talents (the cheapest talent) who unfortunately has better experience than anyone at here. I do appreciate Bubbles nice staff and good customer service however. read more

After spraying so much water in my face that black makeup ran all the way to my chin and brutally abusing my hair for half an hour, he actually had the nerve to sound surprised when he said my hair was damaged. To cover his own tracks, he asked if I flat-ironed my hair. I don't even own a hair-dryer. The only reason my hair was damaged was him. What a nightmare. read more

It was my first and the last visit to this place. Never ever gonna go back!!!!!! My hair means a lot to me the reason why I came here. I wanted to pay a leg and an arm to get my hair looking perfect. If it's a salon there should be the best stylists, but not in this one!!! Well...there wasn't anything special in my hair cut, just came to refresh my hair look and refresh the shape. As soon as I explained what I wanted to the girl who was taking care of me, and she seemed understood me. As I had a long hair and didn't want any layers on the back side, only was asked to reshape my front layers. That was cool when she blow dried and I stepped out pretty much satisfied. But... when the time came to wash it and blow dry it myself, I've found on the middle of my head some chopped pieces of the hair where it wasn't even supposed to be. You even don't need to be a professional to see that chopped piece of hair. The other thing the layers on both sides were uneven. Whatever she made with my bangs it's another story, thin slice of hair was hanging in front of my eyes. After all this kind of staff how can you call it professionalism?! I walked in with better hair than I had it next day after salon visit. The redhairy girl seemed like was in rush, cuz all that kind of staff with washing and blowdrying took less than half an hour. Total I was charged $45. Have a feeling that I've been ripped off just for the ends cutted!!! This place shouldn't be named salon, even in a hair cuttery for $16 got a better hair cut than in this place Bubbles hair salon in Reston. NEVER GONNA BE BACK!!! After having dreadlocks for over 10 years, I went the route of having my roommate shave my head for me, followed only by some self done shape-ups. Being slightly apprehensive about letting anyone else touch my hair for the first time in a decade I'm so glad to have found Lauren! She has helped shaped my look, keeping my hair contemporary and clean while shying away from what we both describe as the "Macklemore" cut, keeping my look professional and tight, while avoiding the hipsterish undercut I loath. Lauren is a great stylist, who takes a lot of pride in her work and it shows. After hating the haircut experience as a kid and avoiding it for so long . . . Came here for a balayage color and cut by Lauren and couldn't be happier! This was my first time coloring my hair so I was a little skeptical, but Lauren gave me her honest advice, asked me exactly how I wanted it to look, and did a fantastic job! It was the perfect natural looking color I was looking for! She did such an amazing job that I could let my hair grow and the color still looked so natural, no obvious look of roots growing in at all! I originally went to Bubbles because it was located close to my work, and while I now work much further away, I will continue to go back and see Lauren! I had my worst haircut ever at this place. I got absolutely not what I asked to have. Though I tried my best to explain what I would like and showed the picture. Two times in a row they have called minutes before my appointment to cancel. Today, I had an appointment at 4:15. They called me at 3:55 (I was literally walking to my car) to let me know that she wouldn't have enough time to complete the color today. I booked the appointment online over an hour and a half before the appointment time. Both times they cancelled, they cited that the online booking doesn't allow enough time. If this is a known issue, why wasn't I notified sooner that it needed to be rescheduled? There was no attempt to even fit me in today or an offer of a discount if I rescheduled. It's a shame because they are located so close to me but I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

As a former stylist I was highly disappointed. I had a baby 5 months ago and am loosing massive amounts of hair. I finally got fed up and decided to go in for a trim and some layering. I was given no tips or advice on a cut that would help me better handle my hair. Told her I wanted my bangs cut back to a short length and stylist told me no. Told her I wanted 2 inches off and she took 4. (I have a tattoo on my back that I used to measure) told her I wanted layers and she gave me some sort of uneven something that Sits in the bottom of my hair. To top it off after telling her my hair is thinning she pulls out her thinning shears and whacks the crap out of my hair to make up for her horrible layering job instead of taking the time and effort to do it the right way. Overall the whole thing can be described in one word: LAZY. There where 5-7 things I considered reporting to the state board (which I know a little bit about considering I am a licensed cosmetologist) The shop was dirty and my stylist used brushes on me that had OTHER PEOPLE'S hair in them. My hair is destroyed and I felt so gross after being in the shop I came home and took a shower. If you are considering this salon save yourself some money and go to a great clips instead. Heck, great clips may even be cleaner and do a better job than this place did. I could never imagine treating a client he way I was treated in this shop. They took my already disappointing / frustrating hair and ruined it further with bad etiquette and awful hygiene. read more

The customer service at this Bubbles is non-existent; the front desk and manager and their shoddy attitude and caring has lost a stylist a very good customer. I had base color and highlights done Saturday. The base color turned out fine but the "subtle red" highlights I asked for turned out to look more like I had been dipped in a vat of burgundy and mauve and, because I had partial highlights done, I looked like a punk rocker with dark hair underneath this mass of hideous red. I called the salon on Sunday to express my distress over the state of my hair and to ask for help. I was callously told I would have to pay for the service again or wait until Thursday when the stylist could see me and it was recommended that I put my hair up or wear a hat while I wait out the four more days. I asked to speak with the manager and was told to call back on Monday. So I call Monday morning shortly after the salon opened, was told that the manager was with a client and would call me "later". I confirmed that this meant when the manager was done with that client. An hour and fifteen minutes later....nothing. I called back to find out that the manager had come in only to see that one client and had already left for the day. When I reminded the receptionist that I was told the manager would call me, she changed her story to the manager receiving an emergency phone call. I was told the manager would then call me on Tuesday. How is this ever acceptable by a business with the sole mission of the appearance and satisfaction of their clients to refuse to address a client's problem in a timely fashion and, furthermore, the person in charge of handling issues exactly like this one refusing to communicate with me? The receptionist *finally* asked me to come in so she could look at my hair but by this point it's far too little and much too late. I'll take the hundreds of dollars I plunk down every six to eight weeks to a salon that actually cares about customer service and satisfaction. Sorry to my former stylist but Aleshia (the manager) and Ray (the rude person who spoke with me on Sunday) cost you a loyal customer. read more
