It's a good thing I verify with companies after reading reviews. Based on some recent reviews I was skeptical if I should go or not. I'm glad I did. These guys are professional every step of the way. From the person who took my booking, to the captain (Clay), to the DMs (Anthony and Jordan). All were top notch. I live on Oahu so it really is a commitment to go out to Kauai to dive at a weather-dependent location. After speaking to the manager, we checked the weather and the booking situation to make sure I didn't book on a weekend where they didn't think they would be able to go. I waited for the weekend with a very high possibility of going to Ni'ihau. When she told me it looked good, I booked, then bought a flight and lodging and was on my way. I got email and text updates the next couple days and showed up at the shop on Saturday (5/5/2018). The dive was on and met Clay and the two DMs at the dock. Clay gave our briefings for the vessel, made sure we all double checked to see that we had all of our equipment and off we went. The DMs took turns walking us through the dives, what they expected and what they expected of us. They explained that shallower dives would give us longer bottom times, and close grouping would give us a better shot to see some special wildlife. From their experience they let us know what the wildlife did not like and what to do to give us the highest potential for encounters. It made sense to us and we all complied. They pitched an eco-friendly message, to respect the wildlife's space, and tips on how to let them come to you instead of chasing them (away). Its a 2-3 hour trek from Port Allen Harbor to Ni'ihau and throughout the trip they preached safety, safety, safety. If a dive company is anything else, if its not safe, it's no good. End of story. These folks were on top of it. The tips they gave us and the execution by our dive group gave us the results we were looking for! Monk seals, sharks, even a turtle, black coral, fish, big fish, lots of fish and some rare forms of fish. What a fantastic trip! They fed us well and you will love the way they heat up the pizza. My girlfriend and I went to Kauai in May, primarily because it's the least populous/developed of the Hawaiian islands and it also features beautiful geography. One of the big draws as well is the snorkeling and diving opportunities just off shore. My girlfriend had dived previously with Bubbles Below (and knows the owner, Linda), so I went along with her recommendation and we booked two dive days with them. If you do a local dive, you'll either hit two or three locations, depending on the conditions. There are plenty of spots around the island where you can see caverns, all kinds of exotic fish, reef shark and turtles (including "cleaning stations" and areas where the turtles lodge themselves into the rocks and coral to nap). Of all the local dives, I would recommend a topographical dive at "Sheraton Caverns" (it's off shore from the Sheraton Hotel). The caverns and coral formations were beautiful, but we must have seen at least 25 turtles (mere feet away), reef shark, porcupine fish, lobster and an assortment of other ocean fish. Just an exhilarating dive. Our guides, Mike and the owner's daughter, Amber, were very knowledgeable about the dive spots and passionate about what they do. They want the divers to have fun and plenty of opportunity to take in the abundant wildlife and topography. They were friendly as well, which made for an enjoyable day of diving. Bubbles is a family-owned business, so the experience felt more personable than what it would be with a larger outfit. I recommend them highly! read more

My boyfriend and I wanted to try scuba diving. We decided to do it with Bubble's below and it's worth it. We did the shore diving in Koloa landing and it was amazing. We saw turtles and plenty of colorful fishes. Moreover my friend had some difficulties to go down under the water and the instructor helped him a lot and took care of him really well. My husband, our 6 extended family members, and myself really enjoyed our diving excursions! We all did the Discover Scuba Program that included a pool lesson, all necessary equipment, a bit of marine life education, snacks & drinks, TWO boat dives, and TONS OF FUN! My wife and I got certified through Bubbles Below during our vacation in Kauai. Prior to signing up, I looked online at multiple scuba companies. Bubbles Below's prices were most reasonable and they are a family-owned/-run business. Most importantly, all 4 dives for the scuba open water certification was boat dives, instead of shore dives (which you'll find many do instead). We had found through online browsing that Koloa Landing shore, can be polluted; other companies may take you there for shore diving, but Bubbles Below also mentioned this is one reason they don't do shore dives. Bubbles Below runs their dives/instruction very personalized. Both of us were taught by 1 dive instructor - another reason to go with Bubbles Below. Amber, our dive instructor, was very knowledgeable, detailed and friendly. I'm nervous about swimming in general (as I'm not good treading water), but her teaching made me reassured about diving. During our dives, she also pointed out many different species and told us interesting facts about it. When we went out for our dives on the 1st day, there was another small group of already-certified divers. They went with a separate dive guide. Before the dive, the guide and our instructor asked us what we wanted to see, and tried to make sure we got to see it. On the 2nd day's dive, there were a group and another individual - the group was snorkeling with one guide. The individual was scuba diving, so Bubbles Below had another dive guide for him; chatting with him, he mentioned he is from California, but has been diving with Bubbles Below before. I highly recommend Bubbles Below for getting certified, or just going scuba or snorkeling. Had such a wonderful day w/Clay and Mike today! It was our final certification dive (4 of us) so after we got that out of the way we could experience what dishing was like without someone in our grills about skills. The instruction was great both days, specific, clear and with a sure but gentle mastery from Dive Instructor Mike. Once we passed and did a dive, everything changed. We saw thousands of fish, including some well-hidden Frogfish, lots of Triggers and Turtles! Turtles, turtles, turtles! Hale Honu lived up to its name! We saw a beautiful Green burnt groomed by Surgeon Fish! What an awesome site. The ride was great, snacks and ice water. Clay and Blondie were terrific and Dive Instructor Mike was the best. Captain clay and the crew Jordan and Anthony or excellent. You do not see this kind of care and expertise and a lot of companies. Food was provided more than we really needed getting on and off the boat was easy and free parking was available. They take care of everything. The dive sites were excellent visibility was excellent and the sea life was plentiful. We saw Hawaiian monk seals, sandbar shark, black tip sharks, and oceanic white tips. On October 7, 2018, I went to the Niihau coast with this crew. This was the highlight of my week vacation in Hawaii. The crew was great. The dive master, Anthony, made sure we didn't miss anything. Can't say enough good things about Bubbles Below. They took our group of eight out on a fairly rough day, found us a quiet cove, and guided us to fish heaven! Our scuba folks had an expert dive master (Manny), while Capt. Clay and Chrystal coached and watched our snorkelers. I've never seen so many fish in my life. And the turtles - they swam near us, hung out with us, gave us advice on the best bars on the island. Well, almost. Capt. Clay is deeply knowledgeable (he's a scientist), and endlessly patient with the less experienced folks. Safety was paramount, and the service was perfect. To top it off, Capt. Clay spotted humpback whales blowing, eased us over to them, and we saw 80,000-pound humpbacks up close and personal. Oh, a pod of dolphins swam in our wake too. My wife & I were in Kauai recently for a conference. We had quite a bit of time to play as well. We did three organized events with local companies - Bubble Below (bubblesbelow.com) in Eleele, Kauai Photo Tours (hawaiianphotos.ent) in Kapaa & Kaua'i Back Country Adventures (kauaibackcountry.com) in Lihue. We had a great time with each. I am including all 3 businesses in each review so you can see other things to do. I pre-booked with Bubble Below before flying in so I would be assured a spot on their boat for a day of beautiful diving. Linda, the owner was our guide & she is not only a terrific advocate for the underwater flora & fauna, she is a VERY professional guide & instructor. I have been diving for over 30 years & was an instructor so I know of what I speak. While it was quite a surgy day, we still had a lot of fun & saw a large white tip reef shark, a couple turtles, dolphins, eels & tons of little tropical fish. Alas, no Humpys. Next time, maybe. I travelled with no gear but they took my measurements via email so all the gear I needed was ready for me when I arrived at the shop. A good time was had by all 5 divers on the boat - I love small group diving! Kauai Photo Tours was an unexpected treat. I did not even think about such a tour before seeing their ad after we arrived. I am an avid amateur shutterbug and was thrilled to find someone to take us for about 6 hours all over the east & north sides of the island. Our guide/instructor was Levi - an accomplished photographer in his own right. He took the small group of us to several locations we would not have found on our own. Mainly beaches but some mountain view areas as well. Also, we had lunch as a group at a small place in Hanalei. The company runs several tours. I was impressed with the photos I took & Levi's gentle method of helping me get better shots. He also had a few people who knew almost nothing about photography & their cameras. He did a marvellous job educating them. He is pretty darn good with a machete prepping fresh coconuts too! Like the trip with Bubbles Below, I would do another day with KPT. The last tour we did was the Mountain tube ride. They do ziplines as well but we wanted to do the tubes. We expected it to be hokey but it absolutely was not. Our guide was Ikaika. He was a hoot! The time spent was about 3 hours including transportation. It was a lot of fun, especially going through the tunnels. If you have a GoPro, bring it - too much water for my Nikon. What a fun way to spend the afternoon. read more

WOW- My son and I had the opportunity to dive Niihau and the conditions were great. We dove with sharks, manta rays, eagle rays, an octopus (that inked!), and with the famous monk seals. The monk seals swam within six inches of my mask! This was a once-in-a-lifetime dive and is likely to be the best dive of my life. The boat captain and the dive master were friendly, helpful, and courteous. This was a three-tank dive and my first drift dive. With their guidance, I was at ease and thoroughly comfortable throughout the entire time. I have dived in Hawaii, Cozumel, Mexico, and California. Bubbles Below gave me by far the best experience I have ever had. read more

Went to get certified for Open Water, my instructor was Hannah, she was awesome! I highly recommend Bubbles and above all Hannah, if you are female and want someone with the patience of an angle, Hannah is your Chica above all Chica's! I will be back in April and will hook back up with Bubbles and their awesome crew. Crystal in the front office was welcoming and very kind. Weather was a super challenge, but Bubbles kept me on the 411 daily, it rained and rained and storms tore things up, they waited until visibility was great and said, "Y a good to go"? I created a Yelp account just so I could review these guys. I did the 3-tank Mana Crack Na'pali Coast scuba charter with them, and it was absolutely outstanding. Michael was our dive master, and did a great job. The boat was captained by Captain Earl who was awesome. They clearly knew the dive sites really well. Both Earl and Michael made us feel really comfortable, though half the group (3/6) had never drift dived before. It was a small group, just six of us, which made it better. Earl and Michael did all the work in terms of fitting our equipment, changing it out between dives, helped us get our equipment on and take it off post dive. The dive sites were RIDICULOUS! 90 feet visibility, 80F water, we saw tons of fish, a couple of rays and a couple of SHARKS! Michael made the dive really interesting by doing things pointing out sand patterns that showed sea stars were underneath, digging and finding dead heart-urchin husks and other stuff. He also did a great job of keeping the group together. Totally recommend this for anyone wanting awesome diving in Kauai! read more

I had a great time diving with Bubbles Below on two separate days in mid-April of 2014. I highly recommend this dive outfit for more experienced divers looking to go on adventurous dives on Kauai. They offer a variety of unique dives that other companies do not. I did two local south shore dives one day and the three-tank Mana Crack trip the other. It was very clear that our divemaster and boat captain, Amber and Earl, were intent on finding sites that were suitable for the days' weather conditions (pretty windy with a good current). They checked all of the dive sites by jumping in, swimming down a bit, and assessing the underwater conditions. We didn't dive the first site we went to because of a strong current. I appreciated that level of effort, and felt assured that no matter what sites we dove, they were probably the best available given the conditions. Sheraton Caverns was a great dive! Tons of turtles! For a cavern dive, this was very easy, very well lit due to the many large openings above, and very stress-free. I highly recommend it. It was beautiful. Amber did a great job of finding unique and interesting marine life, as well as using her slate to explain/identify what she was showing us underwater. I came to really appreciate her diving ability and knowledge of the Kauai-specific marine ecology over the course of the two days of diving. The Mana Crack day was excellent! Our second dive offered some of the best underwater topography and visibility I personally have ever experienced. The surface seas were a bit rough to go too far up the Na Pali Coast (which apparently is pretty typical that time of year), but we did get to eat lunch about 100 yards from the Na Pali Coast cliffs. That was awesome. If I were to go back to Kauai and had one day to dive, I would sign up for these Mana Crack/Napali Coast dives (unless they were going to Niihau, which sounds pretty kickass). These were deeper dives (~70-80 ft) on nitrox with a single divemaster, so divers did ascend and perform their safety stop individually as the rates of air consumption within the group of divers varied. For this reason, I would definitely say that this was an advanced dive, and not for the novice diver or the feint of heart. Floating in the open blue for three minutes at twenty feet on a drift dive with a thin rope as your only friend isn't for everyone. But the songs from nearby humpbacks provided a very pleasant backdrop! Basically, diving with Bubbles Below worked out very well for me, and I hope it does for you, too. My only recommendations for the company would be to spend a little more money on the food and snacks. I have to dock them a single star because I'd prefer a more comfortable boat with better food, but that doesn't mean I didn't have a great time diving Bubbles Below. I include a personal diving background section below because divers vary greatly in both their diving experience and their expectations of what constitutes enjoyable diving. Hopefully this helps provide some perspective on my review. Background: I'm rescue certified and have approximately 100 dives, mostly in kelp forests in Southern California, where dive boats don't come equipped with in-water divemasters that hold your hand and show you where the pretty fish are located. Like many CA divers, I'm accustomed to having one or two dive buddies on the boat with me, all of us being responsible for paying attention to the dive site briefing, our equipment, the fish, the sea lions, the kelp, the rocks, the current, the boat, our bottom time, and each other. To me, this is normal diving. Having a divemaster to follow around is awesome, makes for relaxed and fun diving, and is one of the many enjoyable parts of diving in tropical locations. However, I do not approach any dive with the notion of relying on somebody else for my safety or enjoyment once I've jumped off the boat. I have a great time diving in green water with temps in the 50's and crummy visibility. read more

My spouse and I have always wanted to do an all day dive at Niihau, and there are only two dive operators that do them. We called up Bubbles Below and found out that they do every Wed and Sat. We booked a Wed one in Aug and when it came to the Sunday before, they called to let us know that there might be an issue due to the tropical storm coming in. Ended up cancelling it, but we signed on for that Sat so that was nice. The prices for equipment rental were reasonable ($10/BC or Reg, $5/dive computer), as was the $345 for the trip, plus tax (and boy does Hawaii get their share plus some!). We arrived at 6:30 to load the boat, and that is when we discovered the 36 foot boot had no head, and that was something they might want to warn you about, since you spend almost 8 hours or more on board. Loading went well, tho I wouldn't want to be the DMs who had to load and unload the tanks from a cargo hold in the bottom of the boat. They put all our gear together and helped you as much or as little as you wanted. You back roll in and climb up a ladder and then step over the back to get in. I asked over the phone about shading on the boat and was told there was some. True, but not enough if all of us wanted to stay out of the sun. The first site was Pyramid point, and it had a strong current which made the dive a little more challenging, somewhat more than someone could handle, as far as we could tell on the first dive, b/c after 10 min. we were all brought back to the mooring line to hang out for 20 min while they did something for someone. Then we resumed our dive, but by then, many had used up most of their air. We ended up seeing a monk seal, really cool! but that dive was a bit of a loss and not very well organized. The second and third were better. We did a arch and hold swim thrus on the second, which is always fun, tho one of the DMs kept a tight hand on the divers, and that made photo shots difficult as we were all to stay really packed together. We then went back to the first dive site with less current this time to do a slower and shallower dive with lots of colorful fish. Coming back the winds and waves were high and strong, almost a Disneyland ride, but the captain certainly knew his craft. It took 1.5 hours out and about 2 or so back. The other dive shop that does the Niihau trip does have shade on their boats, and may have a head! We did see 2 monk seals, colorful fish and a shark, but feel that the diving should be a bit less herd like, and perhaps a bit more organized in general. read more

This is my first review that I have written on Yelp. The service I received from the staff at Bubbles Below warranted a review. First off, I had tried diving a year ago with another company on Kauai. I didn't go well, bad connection with the DM, little instruction about the equipment and no time to get familiar with the gear before heading out. I decided to give it another try. Talked to Blondy and felt at ease with booking a couple of dives along with pool instruction. Mike was my instructor and couldn't have been a better choice. He took his time and made me feel comfortable with the equipment. The time in the pool with the gear made a world of difference. The dive site was good and Mike took his time with making me feel comfortable before going under. Had a little problem at the start, but his patience made all of the difference. I can't thank Mike enough for making it possible for me to accomplish this goal. I honestly think I would have quit without his help. Clay and Amber rounded out the crew and were great. If I dive again on Kauai, I wouldn't dive with any other company. I have a lot of good memories from my dives, great turtles. read more

All are expert divers and helpful if you need it, and accomdating for longtime divers as well. Very friendly folks. Lots of wildlife and the divemasters know the microenvironments in the coral beds to find unusual life. Communication above and below water was spot on...divers who had buoyancy control skills and good coomunication with divemasters were free to swim in range...this exactly what you want: safety first. Divers who want to do risky behavior or are new must stay close to the divemaster...again safety first , respectful to delicate environment, and good for fellow divers since an out of control fellow diver can ruin it for everybody. Interesting coral structures to dive around, schooling fish, nudibranch, a ray passing through, small shark and baby,turtles with wrasse, and so much more. Really great relaxing dives. Visibility was pretty good in all locations. This scuba group is owned by one of the early Kauai scuba families.They know these waters and the marine life really really well.
