Beef, Chicken, and of course Pork are the stars of the show here. Way back in 1999 I first came to this spot and loved their pork shoulder which is my testing point of good BBQ, because a pork shoulder shredded is a hard thing to mess up. It was awesome then and it is awesome now. This visit I was able to try the pork shoulder,chicken, brisket, and pork ribs which had a great smoke (the smoke rings were really solid) and the flavor of the meats were just the right amount of smoke. The sides are also great with the baked beans mixed in with delicious shreds of smoked pork, the greens were salted and cooked down, and the Cole slaw helped cut the fat from the meats. There are five main table sauces (listed sweet to heat: Sweet, Mustard, Mild, Hot, and Killer) but you can ask for the true hot sauces that are kept behind the counter (Hank's and Psycho which will bring the heat to your meal). Service: I had great service at the restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring out your food for table service. Staff will come out and ask if you need anything else and are attentive. They help make a great experience. Ambiance: You walk in and smell the smoke. The decor is that of a southern BBQ place and it does it all justice. Tables are clean and well serviced. It smells amazing walking in from the rain. That's a must with a bbq spot! Even before seeing the plates of the people inside I could smell the goodness. I used the ride to look through their online menu so I knew exactly what I wanted and thankfully it was still available. Corn nuggets and turkey dinner. My indecisive company had many questions and was overloaded by so many options. While he found many behind desk to show lots of patience for his questions it was difficult to understand his speech. After awhile he just said yes to whatever the guy said first. That ends up being gator nuggets, Mac n cheese bites, 3 pig platter with potato salad, coleslaw, green beans, baked beans, and thick bread. But I have a feeling that someone just messed up the order because the cost should have been much higher. Created a banquet in the room. Itis appeared 30 minutes later. The restaurant was a bit busy. We were asked if we were being helped. I informed the staff member we haven't yet and that I was there to pick up an online order. Once we verified the name on the order, she immediately returned with the order packaged and ready to go. We verified the contents and departed on our way home. I enjoyed the Brisket as usual. I hadn't been to Bubbalou's in a few years. I ordered the Brunswick stew and was not impressed. I have been a customer going back to the original location on Lee Road. When I arrived I was greeted and they offered to take my order as soon as I stepped through the door. Overall the service was excellent. I ordered the Brunswick stew (8.99) that came with two corn muffins. The stew was more of a soup and the small bowl had a beef broth base with grease on the top. It had a few potato chunks, corn, Lima beans and small bits of tomato. The stew had no flavor. It was devoid of seasonings. In order to give it some flavor I squirted some sweet bbq sauce into the bowl. The corn muffins were hot and very tasty but served with a dime sized pad of butter. Definitely request extra butter. The service is quick serve so after placing your order you take a seat in the dining room and my food was delivered pretty quickly. The restaurant has comfortable tables and can accommodate a large table. I was drawn in to eat at Bubbalou's by the wonderful scent coming from their BBQ kitchen. I know that every place has their own recipe for Brunswick stew however this did not meet my expectations. read more

Coming back to give an update review. This is my favorite spot for bbq, and I'm glad they are still around. You're always going to get some good country music, delightful staff, and good food. I went with my friends on a Friday evening. It was not crowded at all when we arrived, and we ordered at the counter. I had the quarter chicken sandwich basket, which came with two sides and bread (about 13 dollars). After a couple minutes wait, our food was delivered to our table. The chicken was hot, tender, and juicy. The killer bbq sauce that I added gave the heat I needed. I had potato salad and coleslaw as my sides, and both were delicious. They cooled down the heat from the sauce, which made a perfect balance. The toasted bread was nice as well. I felt that the food was a small step above four rivers. The service was good, friendly, and helpful. While the ordering was counter service, the food was brought to you and they also offered to take it away when you were done. Drinks were brought to you as well. The atmosphere was very casual with only a few booths inside, and maybe some outside as well. I believe beer were the only alcoholic drinks offered. Country music was in the background, but I think they should have Ricky Ricardo singing their theme song! I did see a small elephant statue in the back, but it didn't look mountable. Parking was relatively easy in the complex, but it could be difficult to get out from the traffic light as it gets crowded often. Bubbalou makes a very good bbq. Sadly they lost some stores, but glad to see the Windermere branch is still there and offering great food. Since it's pretty close to my parents house, this would be my choice for great bbq in the Metrowest and Windermere area. read more

Whelp... the hardest thing about having eaten award winning BBQ is, always comparing it to everything else you try. First off, this places gives a hole-in-the-wall smokehouse with the decor & picnic tables, with indoor & patio seating. They were relatively steady with dine-in & take out. I liked the vibe. Ribs! The ribs are where it's at and I'd come back for them. Probably just the rib sandwich is the ticket. The staff was courteous & efficient. And willing to correct what they could and the manager was friendly, with great conversation about products. I'll include a photo but, keep in mind, I started tearing into the ribs. Here's the downside.... everything else! You'll not in the photo, the pork & beef were sliced as thin as tissue paper. The mac n cheese gave no thrills, collards weren't screamin' southern or soulful. What I ordered was the Bubbalou's special: ribs, chicken, pork, beef & 4 sides. 3 of the sides were about a 3 oz ramekin, one side was maybe 5 or 6 oz. I opted for this because, I prefer to try a little of everything. This plate was $21.99 and really it makes sense after having it. At some of the award winning places, a similar offering would be about $36. Because most spots will likely read this, I'll include my recommendation: get rid of the sliced roast beef, it's a pointless waste of money; it's not even bbq. The pork needs some help: bbq shouldn't be served thinner than sliced cheese. The collards really need work with some soul. An ideal plate would be: ribs, chicken, brisket, pork with 2 reasonable size sides, a slice of bread. If the cuts & flavors were on point, I'd be willing to pay in the $30 range. read more

A wonderful barbeque restaurant just minutes from the Millenial Mall. Bubbalou's Bodacious BBQ was founded in 1986 in Winter Park, Florida, by the Meiner family. It currently has 2 locations; Altamonte Springs and Orlando. My brother recommended trying the Orlando location recently. This restaurant is known for its authentic Southern BBQ and laid-back atmosphere. The seating is long wooden picnic tables inside, a few tables outside. As soon as you enter, you are greeted by the smoky aroma of barbecue, instantly whetting your appetite. The staff was friendly and quick to assist, making the ordering process smooth and efficient. You order at the counter where you pay and get your drinks. I opted for the pulled pork platter with french fries and cornbread as sides and a tea as the drink. The pork was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. It was served on a soft toasted hoagie-roll type break. Sauces were on the table. The french fries and the iced tea were very good. There are free tea refills and one of the staff stopped by twice to ask if we needed them. The portions were generous, and the prices were reasonable for the quality and quantity of food provided. The staff kept the tables bussed, the garbage emptied and the floor clean while I was there. My meal with sandwich, 2 sides and a drink was about $15. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience that I would recommend for people wanting good barbeque in a relaxed and friendly environment at a good price. First I want to say that some of the poor reviews you might read are NOT for this location, which sadly is the last remaining Bubbalou's in Orlando. This restaurant does not have drive-thru service. This restaurant is now owned by a gent who worked here and then purchased it from the previous owner. The changes have been remarkable. It is very clean, the service is very good, and it is very busy!!! My wife and I dined here again last night, and everything was perfect. We got there about 8:15--just 45 minutes prior to closing--and still everything was exceptional. As usual, she had the rib dinner, I had the brisket basket. Last night the brisket was the best I've ever eaten anyplace, anytime. It's usually good here, but on occasion the fat hasn't been trimmed well. Last night was incredible. We eat at a BBQ restaurant in Plant City, and it's pretty good. But not this good. If you like BBQ, you'll love Bubbalou's!!! BTW if you spend the time you'll find multiple reviews by me for this restaurant. Several years ago, under previous management, it was not good. BARF! I just tried Bubbalou's disgusting BBQ. I ordered the Baby Back Ribs dinner. The ribs where tough and really chewy. I had to saw through them with a knife. The beans are gross. They mix a ton of onions into the beans. The beans taste just like onions. The coleslaw is very chunky without flavor. French fries are just ok nothing special basic plain French fries. The bread was soft and delicious. They seen that I was disappointed with my meal and offered me a replacement, but they didn't have anymore ribs ready. SURPRISE!!! I asked for a customer favorite which was brisket. Horrible!!! All fat and grease. Taste just like raw flesh. They gave me a refund. I would not recommend this place. read more

Came here the other day for dinner with my in-laws for Father's Day. Father in law is a huge barbeque fan and he wanted to go somewhere that had good reviews so we ended up here. We also ordered corn nuggets and Mac and cheese bites as well for an appetizer. The cashier got our drink orders wrong. We asked for 1 sweet tea and 1 coke, but instead got unsweetened tea. When we told him this, he argued back and said" I heard 3 unsweetened tea" We looked at him confused because if we "ordered 3 unsweetened tea " then why we only got 2 drinks? If that was the case , we should have 3 beverages ... NOT 2. He just came across as argumentative. I didn't like that. Anyways, the rest of our orders came out and I was expecting more based on the 4 star rating of this BBQ joint. The corn nuggets were good.. texture was very cheesy...just the way I like it. Fries and garlic bread were just meh. Coleslaw was just okay. Ribs were huge but kind of dry but it did have a nice flavor. The beans were delicious however, which I thought was the best thing on the menu. The kitchen staff were very friendly. As they brought out food for the other diners, they made sure to check up on us to see if we needed any refills on our "sweet tea".
