We had a wonderful experience with all the staff, but especially lucky to have Rae as our server! She was somehow relaxed and quick at the same time. We had literally just flown in, dropped our bags, and show up here so starving and confused we didn't know what to order. Rae had great suggestions, was up front when she hadn't tried something, and was extremely flexible when we ordered our food in waves. She noticed our unusual grazing, and always asked before clearing anything. We also appreciate that the hostess helped us find a more comfortable table! Took the boys to Universal Studios and didn't really want to eat anything in the park, so we decided to grab something at Bubba Gump Shrimp. When we walked up we were greeted by the hostess outside and she took my numbers down to alert me when my table would be ready. It took about ten minutes and we were brought to our table. The place was pretty packed, our area was clean and the waiter was very cool. I actually think the service was a little better than the food. They have plenty of options but most of their entrees include shrimp. They also have an extensive kids menu that has everything from cheeseburgers, corn dogs, chicken strips and some fish, crab and shrimp options. So it's definitely a family friendly restaurant. Lastly, they have a plethora of mixed or blended drinks that look amazing! I was driving home so I passed but usually I get one if going into the park after. My kids decided to order the corn dogs and fries meal and the Mac n cheese and fries meal with Shirley temples. They had no issues and scarfed it down. I'm not sure if it was that good to them or they were just hungry. I ordered Lt Dan's Drunken Shrimp and it was pretty good! The only thing I didn't like were the onion rings on top. They were too soggy so my boy ate them . One thing that was pretty cool that gives them an extra rating point is the waiter coming to our table and playing a trivia game with us on the forest Gump and the Super Mario Bros movie. It was fun and made the wait time go by quickly. So, because of that my rating goes up an extra point. Overall, the food was an about a 3 and the service bumped it to a 4. Came here on a Wednesday around 7PM. Grew up coming here since I was a young child, I had high expectations. My family ordered bang bang shrimp, shrimp gumbo, and I ordered fish and chips. Not one of us were pleased with our food. For a seafood shop to serve bad seafood is just disappointing. Shrimp were cold, the gumbo was bland and the fish and chips tasted like nothing.. all of it tasted as hospital food. Server was Keira. She was not the best. She only really spoken to us once and watched all the other servers ask us if we needed anything. We were clearly unhappy with the food and asked if we could just order something else and all she said was the kitchen is backed up. Which I get, but if the food ordered was not up to par whatsoever. My husband and I stopped here during our visit to Universal City Walk for lunch. The restaurant is setup nice with a great view of City Walk. With high table options, booths and outside dining. It was a really nice day as we chose to sit at a high top table bordering the outside area. Our waiter was great and was extremely friendly (I forgot his name but, he had a really cool feather earring in his ear that was distinctive). The reason for the three stars is the food, which e ordered the Strawberry Salad and Calamari. The salad could have been fresher as some of the greens seemed welted and was overly doused with dressing. The calamari tasted like store bought refried to be served. We came here on a Monday and after googling it said they have happy hour at universal city. However, when we showed it they said they don't have happy hour at all at this location. So that was a bummer!! Our bartender was friendly though. I forgot his name, but he was great. We got a few drinks. I liked my passion fruit margarita. I got a seafood platter which had fish, shrimp, and seafood hush puppies. the fish was big and crunch on the outside/flaky and moist in the inside. The food took quite a long time, longer then I expected even for it being busy. Highlight of the meal was for sure the French fries, such a weird thing to rave about but they were fresh and perfect. My lobster crab rolls were amazing as well! The rolls were a little hard for my liking but the filling was really good! My fiancees meal was also really good, the shrimp was definitely the best. The hush puppies were decent, but the fish and chips we were not fans of.. batter was rubbery and the fish was kind of heavy. Location 4 stars: On the Universal City Walk in Universal City, California. You will need to use one of their parking structures. You can enter the Universal Studios complex via Lankershim or Cahuenga Boulevards. At the time of my visit the fee was a prepaid $10 a day for standard self parking. No parking validation. The restaurant is right off of the elevators and escalators from the Jurassic parking structure. They also offer VIP? self parking and valet parking but I have not tried them. No street parking. While you are there and have already paid for parking, might as well stay around and visit the many stores on the City Walk or go see a movie at the AMC :). Venue 4 stars: This is a theme restaurant based on Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump movie. It is owned by the chain restaurant giant, Landry's. It is a touristy set-up using many cues from the movie. They take reservations which can come in handy on weekends. Most of the clientele are tourists in larger groups and with young kids, who are visiting the Universal Studios theme park or the City walk. It features indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar. Service 3 stars: The servers are well-accustomed to the tourist crowds who do not expect much in terms of service and often do not tip well either :D As a result, the service is friendly and sufficient, but not attentive. Our server would disappear for extended periods of time and we had to work hard to get her attention when we needed something. The service was also very slow and food and drinks took a long time to arrive. Food 3 stars: As everyone who has seen Forrest Gump knows, most of the food is based on shrimp and other shellfish, cooked in the Southern tradition, just like Forest Gump's BFF Bubba wanted :) Concepts, ingredients and plating are mainstream and designed to please the masses, and taste just OK. We had the Shrimp New Orleans (Good), the Crab and Shrimp Rolls (just OK... It resembles a Lobster Roll in the pics and I was expecting chunks of Shrimp and Crab in a buttery sauce, it was more like a tuna salad made with shrimp and crab; mayo and all) and the Bourbon street Mahi (just OK...the sauce tasted good but the fish was overcooked). Prices are under $30 a plate which is reasonable but the taste wasn't quite there. Drinks 3.5 stars: Full bar and soft drinks. They have a large list of specialty cocktails but mostly sugary stuff. Prices are reasonable. I had their old fashioned which was average. The Bottom Line 3 stars: An average restaurant. Calamari (6/10): the batter & crunch is nice but it has a very strong flour taste. DEF needed more salt Shrimp cocktail (7/10): no different than what you'd get at a grocery store. Shrimps not deveined Baja Ceviche (7.5/10): best out of the 3 but still mediocre. It has a subtle kick and it was generous with the shrimp but this definitely needed more lime and salt. Haven't eaten here in forever!! Decided to grab lunch here with my bf and really enjoyed it. We shared some plates, coconut shrimp and some crab cake things with rice and it was plenty, way more than enough. Surprisingly the crab cake things were very filling but so good! Our waiter, Leo, was an absolute treat and super sweet. He complimented on my bright magenta hair and basically told my bf that I was a keeper lol!! Great sense of humor and was very attentive. It wasn't super busy when we went that day, it was a Saturday I believe and around noon. Not sure how often they change their menu but I would love to come back and try their other things! This is the definition of a Tourist Trap! The food here is just straight up bad and the prices are outrageous for what you get. You can just tell that everything is frozen and then microwaved. This is another touristy restaurant along Universal city walk. It's pretty good food for an expensive price. I've been to other locations before and they were slightly better. We ordered some drinks and some Calamari for an appetizer. It was good. For our main courses. it was Shrimp New Orleans for me, and fish and chips and the strawberry salad with chicken for my daughter and wife. My shrimp had flavor but was over cooked quite a bit, but after a long day at Universal, I wasn't feeling up to sending it back. My daughter enjoyed her fish and chips. The same with my wife's salad.
