Location 4 stars: On the Universal City Walk in Universal City, California. You will need to use one of their parking structures. You can enter the Universal Studios complex via Lankershim or Cahuenga Boulevards. At the time of my visit the fee was a prepaid $10 a day for standard self parking. No parking validation. The restaurant is right off of the elevators and escalators from the Jurassic parking structure. They also offer VIP? self parking and valet parking but I have not tried them. No street parking. While you are there and have already paid for parking, might as well stay around and visit the many stores on the City Walk or go see a movie at the AMC :). Venue 4 stars: This is a theme restaurant based on Tom Hanks' Forrest Gump movie. It is owned by the chain restaurant giant, Landry's. It is a touristy set-up using many cues from the movie. They take reservations which can come in handy on weekends. Most of the clientele are tourists in larger groups and with young kids, who are visiting the Universal Studios theme park or the City walk. It features indoor and outdoor seating and a full bar. Service 3 stars: The servers are well-accustomed to the tourist crowds who do not expect much in terms of service and often do not tip well either :D As a result, the service is friendly and sufficient, but not attentive. Our server would disappear for extended periods of time and we had to work hard to get her attention when we needed something. The service was also very slow and food and drinks took a long time to arrive. Food 3 stars: As everyone who has seen Forrest Gump knows, most of the food is based on shrimp and other shellfish, cooked in the Southern tradition, just like Forest Gump's BFF Bubba wanted :) Concepts, ingredients and plating are mainstream and designed to please the masses, and taste just OK. Prices are under $30 a plate which is reasonable but the taste wasn't quite there. Drinks 3.5 stars: Full bar and soft drinks. They have a large list of specialty cocktails but mostly sugary stuff. My wife had the Beyond Burger and I wish I had taken a picture, the size of the patty blew my mind when they brought it out to her and she said it's an amazing burger, she really enjoyed it. I had Forrest's Seafood Feast and it was quite tasty. The fish was well seasoned and cooked, I really liked the seafood hush puppies, the shrimp were alright they were basic fried shrimp to me. The sauces that came with it all were great and added nice flavor to the dish. I did order a drink from the bar and it took quite a long time to come out. I ordered it just before the food arrived and I was nearly finished before it came out. We also asked our server about trivia and she kind of brushed it off and said that's usually done in the main room. We shared some plates, coconut shrimp and some crab cake things with rice and it was plenty, way more than enough. Surprisingly the crab cake things were very filling but so good! Such a fun place! We were walking around the mall area, looking at all the shops and attractions, and thought we could get dinner here as it seemed more quieter, quicker service that evening. The restaurant is definitely a tourist attraction and the decor is all Forrest Gump related, which is amusing and seeing the quotes on the walls as well as familiar faces from the movie. The waiter seemed a bit over his shift and was nice to check on us here and there; the person at the end with movie trivia was a lot of fun as well & interacting with the crowd. Any Forrest Gump ANYTHING I absolutely love because 1: He loved Dr Pepper like me! And 2: It's the one of the best movies universally! that we all loveMy go to when we eat here is usually their shrimp caesar however their fish and chips of chicken caesar salad (with a Dr Pepper of COURSE) and these dishes do not disappoint either! My husband and I shared the shrimper's heaven, clam chowder, and a side of mashed potatoes. The shrimp were on the smaller side but cooked just right!
