Awesome food and I absolutely love the atmosphere. Our server Gayle ROCKED! The restaurant was beyond busy, but she took the time to really create a wonderful experience for us. Make sure to try any of the salads; We had three different salads to share and ever single one of them was delicious. read more

I had just flown in and wanted something to eat while I was waiting for my brother to fly in. The restaurant was half a block from the hotel I was staying at so I decided to give it a whirl. I had a great waitress, I don't remember her name but she said she was working for ESPN. She was extremely attentive and knowledgeable. I started with the Giddy up fries. They are crisscut fries topped with, nacho cheese, pulled pork, sour cream and other things that made it delicious. It was really really good I had the mac n cheese and chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich was ok, but the mac n cheese was really good. If you are staying anywhere near the place its definitely worth a try. read more

Omg! Everything we ordered was so delicious! We're taking two bottles of sauce home with us. Chicken BBQ, fried chicken, pastrami and Mac n cheese were incredible! I wish I had a second stomach. The Bub City gold beer paired beautifully with our food. The twangy country music and our server, Amber, were the perfect touch. Wish we'd saved enough room for the homemade pies. Gotta find an opportunity to return. read more

I wish I could review the food. It smelled delicious. Unfortunately, I decided to stop by Bub City on my first vacation to Chicago. We put our name on the list for a 40 minute wait. We decided to wait outside, as the restaurant was quite packed on St Pattys Day. We waited for over an hour, with no page/text/notification. I went inside to check our status, and was told by the hostess that our table was given away and that she had texted us. We showed our phone with no such notifications, but we were still told we were SOL. Upon asking the manager if we could reach a compromise, the manager simply told us we'd be back on the list, another hour and a half away. We were treated with disrespect and the experience has truly marred my opinion of Chicago. Do better. read more

Bub City is a reliable option in River North if you're looking for fun atmosphere and modern BBQ. The food is decently priced, consistent, and delicious! You MUST try the buffalo bites. The Mac and cheese is another favorite. I've been to brunch twice so far for the Bloody Mary bar (the build your own skewers and toppings is a meal by itself and instagram worthy) and live music on most Sundays at noon. I will continue to come back and dine at Bub City. read more

Fun spot to hit up when the sun comes down! Great BBQ and appetizers, karaoke, and drinks! Check out if you're ever in town!

Nashville ambiance and amazing food. If you get Rodrigo you are lucky! Best server in all of bub city!

This place gets a lot of traffic so I decided to stop by last night to watch the game. I sat at one of the outdoor tables since it was a nice night. It was a little difficult to see all the TVs from out there, but that's to be expected, I guess. I liked it because there was a lot less noisy than being inside. I ordered the bbq pulled chicken sandwich, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend, and the brussels sprouts as a side. The chicken wasn't bad but it didn't seem like the cooks spent too much time on it. I imagine the pulled pork and/or brisket is much better there. The brussel sprouts were a pleasant surprise. They were roasted to a nice texture. Not too hard and not too soft. Overall, it's a cool place to go if you want to watch the game and eat some bbq in downtown Chicago. read more

Do not go here! Had a party of 20-25 thrown out because the manager had a power trip. Guess the manager didn't like everyone spending their money. read more

The waiter was extremely rude. The food was decent but was very turned off by how rude our waiter was. He was more concerned about taking to girls than actually serving our table. read more

Didn't even get to place an order. A place full of white people and when we walked in they said we could only get food. Supposedly a person with us was too drunk. It was funny bc they are just a happy person and only had a beer before entering. Shocked we left and wanted to let other people know this is Def a RACIST ESTABLISHMENT. Rude and would never recommend. It's not the 1800's black and brown people eat food too. STAY AWAY read more

Good food. Great upbeat atmosphere. Waitresses were all friendly and attentive. Good place to chill with your friends and be able to converse easily. Not too loud. The selection of BBQ meat was above average. I had the Pittmaster Combo plate so I got to sample their three best choices. Half slab ribs, pulled pork and brisket. By far the pulled pork was the best of the three. Juicy and tender. The ribs would come in 2nd and the brisket 3rd. Ribs were tender and fell off the bone, but the crust was a bit tough and chewier than I like. The brisket was tasty, but a bit dry and the same with the crust on this. Too dry and chewy. The sauces were very good and helped counter the crust issues. The cole slaw was a bit sweet for my taste, but others may like that. Overall, I'd go back, but not for the brisket. read more

Went back while in town during Covid. They take reservations and you are able to sit inside with the doors open. Kept it small and ate the Buffalo Tots and Mac and Cheese. We had Sailor Jerry's and Coke and Allagash White drafts. Felt good to be out and about while having a sit down dinner. Waitress was friendly but the vibe is crazy different now in Chicago (for obvious reasons). We always go back to Bub City when in town. read more

Food was okay, just another regular American food spot. I didn't try their barbecue, but had the pastrami sandwich and it was slightly dry. Fried pickles were fine, but could get a better idea for the dipping sauce other than ranch. I've had other restaurants be more innovative with the sauce and would be worth exploring. read more

Very disappointed. I was there last September and had a great meal and service. Tonight I sat outside, was ignored for 15 minutes, finally a waitress (not mine) noticed I was being ignored and brought water and a beer. My waiter showed up about 10 minutes later and didn't over an apology. Funny thing is he was waiting on the table next to me and walked by at least 10 times. I ordered the Big Pig same as I had during my September visit. They must have changed chef's. The Pig looked like sloppy joe, the cheese on top wasn't melted. Food was cold. The restaurant was very busy, and had a line waiting to get it for the live show. Still no excuse for the poor service and cold food. read more

Hey Bub City! What are you doing to your chicken? Why is it so tender, juicy, delicious?! It's witchcraft I tell ya. It's like crack! I went last night and am already ready to go back ... but damn, it's only 8:30 in the morning. If our friends did not make reservations here, it would have never been on my radar. There are so many really really really good restaurants and accomplished chefs in Chicago, why would this casual eatery be on my list? Well slap me upside my head because I had it all wrong. There is no glitz and glam here. When you walk into Bub City, you know you're in a BBQ joint/country club! Service was quick and extremely friendly. As I stated earlier, food was amazing! And the music was on point...but you must love country! read more

Thank you, Bub City, for actually serving us and being friendly. We went to two other restaurants along the street and basically just stood by the hostess stand and never got seated. Bub City saved the day. My husband really just wanted some breakfast/brunch, and they delivered. It's slightly odd that it's a country-themed place in Chicago, but it is in a touristy area, so I get that. I wasn't expecting anything fancy or special; I just wanted some simple food and Bub City delivered. For their brunch, you pick a main dish and then three sides. My husband opted for the breakfast taco with bacon, and his sides were mac and cheese, cheesy grits, and a hot link. The food came out promptly, and our server was friendly and helpful. The taco was good according to my husband. I liked the mac and cheese. It was real cheese, not that yellow liquid stuff, so I appreciated that. The cheesy grits were disappointing. Tasted like instant grits and there wasn't much cheese. The hot link was tasty and hot. So while it's not the trendiest or most inventive food, the brunch was a solid meal that hit the spot. The service being friendly was a huge plus, so I won't hesitate to give a solid 3 stars. read more

I'm actually not a huge country music fan, but I do enjoy live music and this is a great place to experience both. My friend loves this place and country music and every time I come to Bub City with her we have a great time. While waiting for a band to come on stage, our waitress was very friendly and knowledgable with menu recommendations. We ordered a pitcher of the back-porch tea and the giddy up fries with the pulled pork on the side (I'm vegetarian). This is a fun bar to be with friends and offers a different style of music and a fun but laid-back vibe. read more

Go somewhere else! We were charged a cover at the door then herded into a crowded area. Drinks were not running efficiently. I understand that some situations are not perfect. My wife and I did not want to be placed in a bar like clams and slow service. I asked for the cover charge to be refunded because we had been in the bar for less than 5 minutes. The bouncer laughed at me and said you should of asked about the bar before paying the cover. A simple no would have sufficed, but the bouncer decided to be condescending. read more

Sydney is the best... Request her when you visit Bub City!! Also make sure to try the Mac and cheese.

I stopped in for lunch, it was really empty when I first arrived. Was greeted by a really sweet server who kept a smile on her face any time she approached the table (the only reason why this is not a 1 star review). I ordered the chicken sandwich with tots. When I got the sandwich it was really cold and the tots were extremely oily. I kind of forced myself to eat it halfway and than regretted it. I should have asked for it to be taken back. My date ordered the chili and it did not have any brisket like it normally does. The next day my date stopped by to try the chili again and they said that they haven't served that in weeks. So I'm not sure what he was served the previous day. Might consider coming back in a time where it's more busy, just so I can make sure my food is hot and prepared to order. read more

My husband absolutely loves this place and goes often for lunch. Hopefully they still treat him well after reading this review from his wife. My gripes: 1) Meat & Three is only offered at lunch, and not at dinner. This is super irritating when I just want a medium portion of meat and 2 or 3 sides. Instead I have to order a ton of food at dinner to get what I want. (The Texas Toast and flavorless coleslaw are pointless additions to the plate.) 2) The meat is dry and lacks flavor (so far I've had the brisket and the pork shoulder) 3) There is no Carolina BBQ sauce on the table. All their sauces are full of high fructose corn syrup. 4) There are no collard greens on the menu. 5) They changed their Brussel Sprouts recipe. I swear they used to be better. Now they are like delicate roasted leaves drowning in sauce. 6) The Mac & Cheese is almost too rich and too cheesy. It's not a proper Southern Mac & cheese. The place does well with work groups and the happy hour crowd. But I have higher standards for BBQ after living in North Carolina for 5 years. read more

I do not get the low rating for this place. I was staying in the city this week as I needed to get some medical tests and a doctor appointment at Rush. I got back to my hotel a bit later and ordered from Bub City. I called the location, because I am a Celiac, so I needed to make sure they saw my note I added on Door Dash. I ordered the Berkshire Pork Shoulder and sweet tater fluff. The young lady who answer was very nice and assured me that they would take great care with my order. She also told me that she would go and talk to the Chef. I didn't get sick! Thank God. As far as the food, the shoulder was so melt in your mouth tender and juicy. You didn't even need sauce, though they included a Memphis spicy and a KC Smoky. I love pork and this was so good. The sweet tater fluff was really smooth and silky. They also included what I think is the BEST cole slaw that I have had in my life. I can't wait to eat here again! read more

I've gotten these wings in the past and loved them, but was disappointed this time. I only ate one bite; I know the pink color is likely from the smoking of the wings but it was still disconcerting. Additionally, multiple wings had an overload of the hair like chicken filaments/hairs; i know they say they are safe to eat but it looks like human hair and again is very disconcerting. Overall, will not be ordering these again. read more

Friendly staff. It was a bit loud in there but it had nice decor for the interior. The food was good, not great because ribs were kind of tough and burnt ends kinda dry. My first time here and it was an awesome experience! The staff was very welcoming and attentive! The fried pickles were great: crispy coating and tender inside with a nice crunchy texture, my chicken and waffle was just right! They also have a DJ spinning a nice variety of music from almost every genre! Our server was great and the manager on duty was very friendly making our visit worth the while, even though we were late for our reservation by five minutes (sorry)! Ordered delivery for my fiancé on Saturday night. She wanted the Taquitos, Texas Torpedos and El Paso Chopped Salad. We've ordered from Bub many times and have always considered it to be a reliable choice. Well...not this time. The chopped salad was cool, which is good for a salad, but so were the Torpedos and Taquitos. Anything served cold with what used to be melted cheese is pretty gross so those were misses. The salad wasn't fresh consistently either. If this had been the 1st order, there wouldn't have been a 2nd. Get your act together, Bub... read more

I had mixed feelings about this spot given some of the reviews, but a friend first suggested it so we stuck with it, and hot dang we're glad we did! First off, the prices were a bit on the high side, but it is right downtown so I expected that. We ordered a two-meat sampler with the smoked wings and pork shoulder. Both we're super flavorful, smokey, and tender. Everything on that there tray in the photo was delicious. I'm not a huge fan of brussels sprouts, but theirs were amazing. I also ordered an old fashion which was assembled just right. The staff was friendly and patient while we spent way too much time looking over their straight and to-the-point menu. We'd definitely come back. read more

Had to take a star because the sides need work- sorry :/ On a trip to Chicago saw a picture of delightful biscuits but found out those are only for the weekend brunch. So next time I fly over I'm getting one! First we have to discuss decor - within seconds you forget your where you are. All you know is your in this country bar. Most of the signage is hilarious! And there appeared to be an Dj as you walked in- I am sure they have some fun activities. Now the food, so many options even for lunch. I had the ribs that were fall off the bone and friend had the brisket sandwich I believe. We just were not as impressed with the sides. But hey bbq is about the meat so we were happy. *** ladies don't be startled when entering the bathroom read more

If you are in the mood for some good BBQ with your eggs and potatoes, then you need to come to Bub City. I went for the brunch and was craving some breakfast food and outdoor seating on a beautiful day in Chicago and this delivered! It has a casual and homey BBQ restaurant feel giving off a great atmosphere. Our waiter was friendly and helpful when we asked questions about the menu. My friend ordered a tea and he was a little slow at getting her the sugar but other than that, pretty good. I am usually an eggs Benedict kind of bruncher, but I was craving some potatoes and ordered the Beef Brisket Burnt Ends Hash browns with a fried egg. IIt was only $9 and a great portion size, definitely worthy of a full meal! It was exactly what I was craving! A great proportion of that BBQ flavor with the runniness of the egg yolk with the potatoes and beef. I highly recommend! read more

Checking in for restaurants week - dinner My brother and I decided to stop by bub city during restaurant week since it have a good rep and happened to be in the list of participating restaurants for the restaurant week. We went on a Monday night so there was a crowd but it wasn't really busy. We didn't have no appointment, just walk in. That was a plus. The ambience was nice, I have never been to a restaurant like this so it was refreshing. I love the decor and layout. We picked from the special menu crafted specially for the restaurant week. I had the general Joe's chicken, bbq Salmon, and brisket baked beans. My brother called a smoked brisket taquitos, natural brisket (fatty side) and sweet tater fluff. We also called for a fried pickle dish - off special menu- since we saw raving reviews of it. We each had a whiskey glass. Mine was four Rose yellow whiskey - on the rock (old fashioned style). He had an old fashioned. The whiskey doesn't disappoint! I love it. The appetizers were filling and by the timw the entree and side dishes came out we were plenty full. My favorite gave to be the chicken. I simply love it. The salmon is good and generously portioned, but I had better. My brother love his dishes but abhore the sweet tater fluff. I have to admit that it was too sweet. I can eat it only after removing the fluffy marshmallow looking top. We didn't end up finishing our meals so we had it packed to go along with the two pie slices that never made it to the table. All in all, we would come back. But next time we would go off menu rather than waiting for the restaurant week speciallt crafted menu. More freedom of choice. read more

I've been here for drinks a few times but just recently got around to trying their food. Do yourself a favor and pass up the bbq in favor of the back porch burger and you will die a happy camper. Seriously I didn't expect it to be THAT GOOD but it totally was - tender, juicy, with lots of pickles and cheddar cheese it was diet suicide on a bun! I will return for that burger for sure. Also the fried pickles were amazing - salty and perfectly breaded. Spotty service, rowdy crowd, but overall definitely a good time. read more
