My family and I ordered Bua Thai through DoorDash and overall, the food was delicious! I had the Rama Chicken with a medium spice level, and it was spot on...just the right amount of heat and a generous portion of tender chicken. My fiancé ordered the Garlic Chicken with mild spice, but his dish came out much spicier than expected. Not sure if there was a mix-up, but it definitely packed more heat than "mild." My future sister-in-law and brother-in-law both got Pad See Ew with chicken; one with no spice and one mild. They both enjoyed it! My future brother-in-law thought it was a little too saucy compared to what he's used to, but my future sister-in-law liked it that way, so it seems to come down to preference. We also shared the Bua Thai Rolls appetizer, which was absolutely delicious.. crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Since this was a DoorDash order, we can't comment on in-person service, but from a takeout standpoint, the food arrived fresh, hot, and tasty. Delicious pupu platter! Each item had its own seasoning and dipping sauce. Off season most of the restaurants in the area had closed up for the winter, but the family run business sticks it out. They were doing takeout and counter service only and it looked a little sketchy, but it turned out to be a delicious meal. read more

We frequently order from this restaurant as we live just around the corner and the food is always amazing. It's well packaged so it stays hot and fresh, and the service is excellent. We've usually eat here about once a week and so they usually remember my name and order as we always ordered the Pad Thai. I've recently expanded my menu choices and it's all good! My current favorite dish is their orange chicken. The chicken egg rolls are also delicious! The restaurant itself is a very welcoming environment. This has been one of our 'must do meals' for every trip to Maine for the past five or more years. The food is simply the best. Still is, but.... Recent reviews failed to mention that they are still exclusively take out now or 'self service' at one of the few remaining tables. Half of the small room has been partitioned off for storage. It's a shame, we really enjoyed eating in there. Place your order by phone or their website. Otherwise you'll find yourself standing and jotting your order onto small post it notes to hand to the woman behind the counter as we did. Seriously. We waited more than a half hour for our order. Credit to them having it ready nearly on time. Disappointed though that we had to take the food back to our hotel to eat in the breakfast area off cheap paper plates with phasic utensils. My family has been going to Bua Thai since they opened (over 10 years). We frequently tell people that it's the best Thai food in Southern Maine, if not the state. The restaurant has been closed for about 6 weeks. This isn't unusual as the owners are known to take a multi-week trip to Thailand every other year or so. Assuming that was the reason again this year three of us we were excited to order tonight's dinner when they reopened this week. I'm heartbroken to say that our meal was not up to their normal standard. It was poorly seasoned (the main reason we enjoy Thai food), slimy, and generally lackluster. I don't mind paying a little extra for quality Thai food, but tonight it was not. Perhaps a different cook - but disappointing nonetheless. We will give things a few weeks and try again just in case it was a reopening slump, but we won't continue going if things don't improve. I hope they do. read more

Let me set this straight, probably some of the best Thai food I have ever eaten. My dad and I were STARVING and had a hankering for some red curry. We saw this place on the side of the road and honestly weren't expecting much but boy were we wrong. We first had a soup (forget the name) which was incredible. The broth was refreshing and cleansed my soul. Next we had some scallion pancakes which were good as well. For the main course we had shrimp fried rice and the flavor was incredible. The rice wasn't sticking together which is something I always commend and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. The highlight of my meal was the red curry. This is he best red curry I have ever had. I am pretty predictable when ordering Thai as I will always get veggie Pad Thai. This experience I ordered an appetizer of fresh veggie spring rolls. The Pad Thai was spot on and loaded with veggies. I ordered a Spicy Shrimp Pad Thai and the Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice. I was very disappointed. The pad thai lacked any flavor and didn't have a bit of spiciness. Four items were missing, two random overly cooked items were sent in their place (one was chicken wings so dry and overdone you couldn't even pull the chicken away from the bone easily, never mind chew it, and the other item was so burnt you couldn't tell what it was), one item was made with pork instead of chicken and none of us happen to like pork, the one correct item was so spicy that it left us without the ability to feel our tongue after taking a bite and spitting it out, and one of my friends ordered a grape Stewart's soda and they brought orange cream. My husband always gets the spicy bamboo. I also get their Thai iced tea which is phenomenal. This place is both wonderful for dining in, and for take out.
