Sure wish I'd have read these reviews before booking. Seems like it's either hit or miss with this operation, yet many common denominators like I experienced. I just got back from from a two day semi-guided hunt with Dede with four other people. Myself and one other experienced hunter and three newbies. I made Dede well aware of everyone's experience in hunting. I've hunted in many states with fully guided outfitters, semi-guided, and public land non-guided hunting. In the last 15 years I have never had an unsuccessful hunt. I'm well aware that it is hunting and things don't always work out. However, I've never quite had an experience like this. We met up with Dede the afternoon before we started for 'orientation'. This is where she takes your money , license and tag numbers, and hands you what looks like a property map drawn by Chester Copperpot himself. She takes us to the property, which ended up being a 490 acre piece that had (1) 10 acre piece of non-huntable private land, (1) small private home square in the middle of property, and (1) 60 acre 'neighborhood', also non-huntable. She takes us on a 30min joyride on the easement road, frequently trafficked while you're hunting, and drives us by many signs of pigs. It's quite a set up. She offered us advice on where to enter the next morning (different fence) and even suggested it be best if we tried not to walk like humans, but to walk like cows. She tells us to keep our cell phones on so she can contact us while she is scouting for us, yet I never heard from her for 48 hrs and had already left after the two day hunt by the time she contacted me again. The fence she suggested we go in was not unlocked, so we were resorted to parking in the furthest strictly designated parking areas and walked in. To say this place is a respectable hunting outfit is to say that 7-11 is a five star restaurant. We never saw a pig on the property while we were there, so clearly, 0 for 5 on our hunt. Dede is a nice enough lady although when I told her my experience, in a more than polite manner, she was trying to spin it being our fault due to inexperience. I've already wasted more time on this review than I should have. Save your time and money and book with another operation. read more

I have been on a lot of guided hunts around the country and a couple hog hunts here in CA before this hunt. Given the fact that it's semi-guided and priced pretty low I went in with pretty low expectations. Good thing! Like others, the outfitter showed us around the property to give us the lay of the land the day before our hunt. Good sign everywhere so we were stoked for the next day. Things got weird when the landowner's (who lives smack dad in the middle of the 500ish acres) dogs were running out in the field. There is also an easement on the property that people used pretty regularly. Not exactly ideal. I know it's semi-guided and I was totally cool with that but she never even attempted to reach out and ask how we did for the two days we were there. When we told her about the experience she got indignant and acted like we didn't know what we were doing. It's basically a scam. Save your money and go with an outfitter that really cares about getting return business. read more

I almost feel bad writing this, because the more of you that head out to Bryson Hesparia, the fewer pigs there will be left for me! I had read all of the below reviews before booking a semi-guided hog hunt with Deedy and, because of them, didn't have very high expectations going in. Happy to say that I was proven wrong. First of all, if you're even considering hunting hog in California, you probably already know that an overwhelming percentage of the state's harvest is taken on private land. When I booked this hunt, I looked at it as a $200 trespass fee to hunt a piece of private land that most reports (even those in the reviews below) say is loaded with fresh hog signs. Search around for competing operations and you'll see that this is a steal. When I arrived, Deedy took me over to the hunting property and showed me around, pointing out pig tracks and other signs as we went. I was hunting solo, so she was even nice enough to point out some places that would make good glassing and post up points. I left feeling pretty confident that there were pigs on the property. The day of the hunt, I worked the property hard. After about two hours of searching, I ended up in a heavily oaked ravine with some obvious rooting. I kept working down the ravine, maybe another two- to three-hundred yards, seeing more of the signs that Deedy had pointed out the day before. Flipped over cow patties and tracks were everywhere. From about 150 yards out, I spotted a group of pigs, probably 10 in all. Eight of these were probably in the 60-100lb range with two being well over 200lbs. I took my shot and dropped my pig. After the dust had settled and the tag was filled, I remember thinking, "Damn, Deedy knows her stuff." To sum it up, this was a great experience and one that I'd happily repeat. Before heading out there, I think people need to set some reasonable expectations. If you're hoping for a full guided hunt, where a pro puts you on the pigs, sets up your rifle and does everything else short of pulling the trigger, go elsewhere. Bryson Hesperia Unguided hunt: I am not often compelled to write yelp reviews, but I feel I should this time because this is a unique type of hunt. One I have been searching for 3 years; a trip that gives a true HUNTING experience, with the scales tipped in our favor.. But, I think it is important to clarify a few things. It goes without saying; you have to question all good and bad ratings. I guess sometimes it comes down to what we expect going in... Did we book the type of trip that we meant to? Do I want a hunting trip or a shopping trip? Funny, I looked at the reviews after booking the trip.. I wonder if some people would have better off asking for a fully guided option? I am writing this because I have booked a few trips for my son when he was 14 thru 15 and we didn't get what we wanted.. Sure, we killed pigs, but not HOW we wanted them. We wanted to HUNT them. Despite trying to get fully guided trips set up as a glassing and stalking hunt, It seems every fully guided trip we booked felt like shopping with a rifle. For my Son's 16th birthday, I found Bryson and after talking with Deedy, it sounded like a fit. My son wanted a true hunting experience, not a killing expedition. For what it is worth, he is an accomplished long distance shooter with match wins against adults under his belt. So the goal was not just squeezing the trigger, but learning scent management, tracking and stalking. From my booking and participating in shared lease properties, I am going to attempt to split pig hunting in California into 3 rough categories. Fully Guided and "Guaranteed", BLM or Club leased hunts (without any guidance) and those with trespassing fees on private property. The most popular, seem to be the fully guided and guaranteed pig hunts (I'll lump trophy hunts into these). The hunts are often sold as 2-1/2 days or until you get a pig. The sole focus seems to be to get the "customer" a pig FAST. Covering a lot of ground and often rustling/wrangling the pigs with the truck or smaller off road vehicle until the guide can position the client to jump out and shoot a pig at close range is the strategy. This to me and my son, felt like an amusement park ride, not really hunting as EVERYTHING is done for you.. If this is what your looking for then don't cheap out and buy the unguided or semi-guided hunting package. Ask for a FULLY guided trip. For those true hunters, people who really know what they are doing, know how to find active pigs, then maybe BLM or a club is a better fit. BLM or club leased property is often were you rely on many personal scouting trips and already really know what your doing or just get stupid lucky. This can be a very humbling experience, if you relying on luck. I've had a share lease, with no pigs all year.. Lastly, for those that know how to handle a firearm, want to hunt not have a glorified shopping experience, but want to tip the scales in your favor, private property with known pig populations are a great blend. But at the end of the day, if you are up wind and/or loud, maybe just are having bad luck, you will not see a pig. If the fresh sign are there, so are they. But after all, it is hunting. This is the challenge we asked for and were looking for.. So we booked the unguided (semi-guided) trip with Bryson Hesperia. So after all this, if you had managed to stay with my rambling, Dede took us us out and gave a quick but highly valuable review of how to spot recent pig actively. The next morning, we saw a lot of pigs and shot a very large one. Deedy taught my son how to process the pig taking a lot of time skinning ect. Soon after, we returned for the evening hunting session were had a couple of other opportunities at close range on large sows. We passed, looking for a bigger boar, (we had a 125qt Yeti cooler already full). Even if we didn't shoot or see pigs, all the signs were there, as Dede said they would be. It was up to us to manage our scent, noise and hunting strategy. If we blew it, we would not have seen much-less came home with a LARGE HOG. read more

I have hunted with To do twice now, once semi guided and once fully guided. Both trips were great. The semi guided is a lot of fun and let's you really earn your kill. There is a large pig population on the property, but that is not a guarantee of anything. The guided hunt is one if the best outfitter hunts I have been on. a while back me and 3 of my buddies went here for a semi guided hog hunt. We pretty much got the same treatment as the others. She took our money than took us on a 20 min drive around the property and took off. We did not see one pig at the place matter of fact people were driving through while we were hunting. There was old signs of hogs but we did not see one live pig. We were there for 2 days and not one live sighting of hogs. we did however see turkeys that was running around the property. I would not recommend this place if you are looking to hunt for hogs. read more

Just to got back from a weekend up at the resort with a semi-guided hunt lead by DiDi. All around a 5-star experience. We saw a ton of wildlife and we're right on the game for 90% of the trip (we were hunting pigs/turkeys). Cabins were clean, stocked with everything we could ask for (even wifi). Didi was available on cell all day if we needed anything and laid our great maps for us to take with us. We certainly be returning in the Spring. read more

Found Bryson Hesperia on the Web and saw the mixed reviews but thought I would give it a shot. Deedy is a very knowledgeable guide. She is also a very nice and sincere person. She gave us a nice tour of the property and set our blind up for Turkey hunting where the property owner said the turkeys were and where we saw fresh sign of both pig and turkey. Came out the next day tagged out and she even helped gut the pig for us since it was our first time being successful. Would recommend Deedy and the semi-guided hunt. read more

I signed up for the semi-guided pig hunt. I read great things about the owner, Dee Dee and other hunter's experiences with the pig hunts. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience. First, I left two voicemails over three days and sent an email but was never contacted. After I finally got in touch with Dee Dee, she was very helpful and I can tell she was very knowledgably about the pigs on her property. Long story short, I showed up at the property and things were poorly properly organized and everything was mishandled. Dee Dee forgot the property map. 15 mins later, she returned but forgot the rifle for the hunt. Another 15 to 20 mins later, she returned to the property with the rifle. We toured the pig hunt areas for the next two hours. Dee Dee provided a carton map (not an actual map) which was difficult to orient to the property. She is a nice lady and knows pig hunting but the experience was short of a professional hunting guide and for any business for that matter. Save your money and go with a professional hunting guide. read more

This review is for the hunting only (they offer hunting also), not the resort itself. Three of my friends and I came up here for some pig hunting. We were told that there were many pigs on the property by Deedy. She took us on a ride and showed us pig tracks on a small to medium piece of property (it was actually a large piece of property but slightly small for a hunting property). There were tracks but we did not see anything. It was obvious to me that the pigs were nocturnal and rarely came out during daylight because of the hunting pressure as this property is hunted almost daily. This hunt was semi-guided. We were disappointed that once Deedy took our money we did not hear/see her again. She didn't even call us after the hunt to see if we saw anything. We did not expect much for the money but I should have saved a little longer and went with a fully guided outfitter that guarantees success for $100-200 more. read more

I recently went to Bryson Resort for a semi guided hog hunt. I not an expert in hunting, but have hog hunted here in California before. We were give a briefing on where to hunt. We walked a good distance and didn't see any signs of hog. The cabins were super nice clean and comfortable. If your looking to head to the lake and need a place to stay this place is nice. Now I don't know about a guided hunt there, but I would only assume your chances might be better. Oh we did see about 30 turkey running around on the property so if your looking to shoot a bird they are there. read more

The review is a little late (was there during the middle of May) but it's still fresh in my head. I went there with my brother and a friend for a semi guided hunt. Deedy was one of the nicest people I have met. It was the first time any of us have ever attempted to hunt and she went over all the basics with us and then some. She didn't just tell us what to do, she took us out to the fields and woods and walked us through everything. The cabins were way nicer than I expected and very comfortable for 3 grown men (we even got to watch tv at night, which we weren't expecting). We were able to stalk the pigs and find them, we just didn't get lucky enough to get any (most likely due to the hot weather). All in all, it was a great experience and I wouldn't mind going back. I recently went on a semi guided hunt with DeeDee like other hunters I met Dee Dee at the cabins and went for a orientation of the ranch I would be hunting. After looking over the ranch with Dee Dee pig sign was every where and fresh. After orientation I went for a short walk and about 40 minutes in I encountered about 25 pigs and shot one that weighed 220# after that I did see pigs everyday but not on the ranch I was hunting. There is a road easement through the ranch but the animals are used to it. I've hunted my entire life and have been blessed to hunt more often the most. The pigs on the ranch are pressured only because the neighbors arnt hunting them. This is a semi guided hunt (remember this when booking it) the pigs are there. DeeDee offers a fully guided hunt with 100% shot opportunity if you want a guarantee hire the guide or go to Safeway. You will be hard pressed to find a fully guided hunt at the rates she offers with 100% opportunity. Thanks again Dee Dee I'll be coming back soon. read more

Deedy seemed very helpful prior to our trip, but as the date came closer, she began to gradually reneg on parts of our arrangement. Between that and a few other things that didn't jive, we lost all trust with her. We also found that she was very warm and friendly on the phone before the money was exchanged, but on arrival she was not warm or welcoming. And by the end of our trip she was outright rude and insulting. We will never use Bryson Resort again and will never do business with Deedy again. read more

I am writing this review, as business owner and hunter, to give other hunters a heads up on hunting thru Bryson Hesperia Resort. I have hunted many other places( NOT A BEGINNER) but wanted to hunt Paso Robles area as my dad has told me about GRT hunting in that area. The county of San Luis Obispo is loaded with game and for that reason I gave the rating a STAR. The Hunts with Bryson Resort has had some good reviews. My issue was that on their website( check it) there is a "view cams" section. If you look you will see many cam shots of wildlife known to be in that area( boar, feral hogs, deer ect) reflecting what Bryson hunt grounds offer labelled "field pic #3a", 2a ect..Which I'm sure is a big draw to hunters. If you look closer, you will find that the cam shots have no date/time on them and rarely change. When I met the lady that's runs it, Deedy, she took me from the small area down the road where her office/cabins are to a private farm property that she placed me for the hunt. The hunt map she gave me had NO trail cam reference # to actually where you were or if those website cam pics were even the same location...just a some general land marks /property lines . She showed me boar tracks and an area pig had been rooting around some days prior to my arrival. After she took my money(and stated the obvious no refund policies) she told me any questions you have call me or text me. She was not available via phone during the day hunts but called me at my hotel one night asking me , what I was doin and if "I was chillin like a villain." Boar Saunders can cover 20 miles or more in 24hr period(night/day)and while hunting I found large drainage tunnels leading under roads( one boar dead on the road) so they literally could be spread anywhere in that area and there was many property lines I tracked them too but could not cross. When I used to hunt Tejon Ranch Ca., boars did change there bedding locations and areas that they were seen based on better food and water sources on a HUGE ranch. I could have brought all my trail cams and monitored her hunting grounds to know where and when the boar come thru an area on my 2 day hunt (to get the best shot opportunity)but with all the trail cam pics she has on the website I didn't think it necessary. All the creeks/mountain run off drains were DRY as a bone on this particular property she put me(April 1st 2016). When you travel a long distance for a planned 2 day hunt(food, gas, lodging+hunt fees..) it is important that you know for sure the best place to set up for the hunt with the most accurate/recent trail cam footage to ensure consistent hunt success. NEVER I would have wrote this had Deedy just been HONEST with me about what was really going on up there instead blaming the hunter(s) when no shot opportunities appear. Oh and I was told that I was 1-100 hunters that ever had a problem with her or the hunt properties and that she is sure the next hunters will be successful. Sure glad I don't base my worth as a hunter on what Deedy said to me or I would never hunt again. Will be planning another trip up there, but Sadly not with Bryson Hesperia Resort.
