The Blue Sage Vegetarian Grille, which is right across the street from Fringe is the "hottest"…read morerestaurant on yelp in my area and it has been for many months, the Fringe Salon is the "hottest" salon reviewed in Philadelphia and Las Margaritas is right next door to this Fringe location and has been reviewed a half dozen times. I have been to Las Margaritas a couple of times, but have not reviewed it yet...
However, I was in dire need of a hair cut and this stucco building clicked; close to home, the reviews for the few other locations were validated as awesome and my very long, over grown mane needed to be clipped, not to mention they were voted best of Buck's County and featured as one of the top 200 fastest growing salons in the USA in Salon Today magazine.
I made an appointment and was asked to take a seat in their very tiny entrance way area, which holds two chairs and one table with the most beautiful tall orchid loaded with open cream colored blossoms and new buds getting ready to explode. I hope that I am not the only one who had to play with the leaves to make sure it was real.
Once seated with Lisa, she made very little small talk and was interested in exactly what it was I was looking for. I then pulled out a picture of a short bob and said I want it this short and I will put it behind my ears. She loved the fact that I had brought a picture and then sent me off to Kathy to have a great shampoo.
Lisa is one cool person, very warm and genuine and once we started talking we found out that we had a lot in common and before I knew it my once very long hair was a fresh and bouncy new bob. I must say in all honesty, I have had better bobs, where the under layer was cut a bit shorter so the full effect ended up all going right under in a full fluff and when I first got home I reminisced about my long hair as I cut off one clump of eight to ten strands that were missed.
The haircut, shampoo and blow dry was $50.00, which can range between $45.00 to $65.00 depending on your cut, first time customers receive a 20% discount, so go whole hog with coloring and highlights if you would like. Anytime you refer others they and you will receive 20% off and bangs are trimmed free of charge forever, which needs no appointment and believe me, this will come in handy as my hair grows quick and I am the worst at trimming bangs!
Your second visit gets you a 10% discount and a free coloring or deep conditioning treatment, which is incentive to return. They also sell costume jewelry, handbags and scarves and you will be discounted 10% off your first purchase. They do waxing's, extensions, hair relaxing and straightening.
The shop is attractive and wow do they ever have the clientele of all ages, they also do nails along with any hair treatments that you would like, this salon does not have a massage parlor. It is not handicap friendly due to the numerous stairs and is decorated with black slate floors and bright yellow walls. The salon is not sparkling clean, but clean enough.
I did meet one of the two owners, Scott and he was quite friendly, the other owner was two chairs down and doing an awesome job on a full head of long hair, sigh. They do not take credit cards but they do accept personal checks, they have an ATM machine right inside the front door, convenient, but tacky, put it in the back.
When I was paying, the receptionist forgot to take off the 20% so do keep this in mind when paying, so I rewrote the check for $40.00, plus gave my hairdresser a check for $10.00 since it could not be included in my payment, very antiquated system. 3 stars, but hey, they do accept checks, Lisa 4 stars. On your first visit you will also receive a gift bag full of literature on the services they offer, the discounts and a mini bottle of their own shampoo and conditioner.
Bottom line, I am so happy that I had the long locks cut off, it was not the 10 inches they require to donate to cancer victims and they were not aware of the campaign mentioned by the shampoo gal Kathy about the hair donations to soak up the oil spills.
I'm a dreamer and one day, I envision Edward Scissorhands cutting my hair and scattering the remnants for the birds to make nests in his expressive gardens.
