I've been going to Bruno's for years and frequented the old location often for rugby parties (I fully deny all reports that I did naked zulu warrior runs around the block). The new location is a very nice space and the bartenders used to be very efficient. There used to be a good mix of people of all ages in the bar until later in the night when it goes to mostly college age. There are lots of televisions, pool tables, and other games available. They used to have really great bar food and some very tasty debris fries but my last visit was terrible food and no more debris fries on the menu. They literally used to have the best cheese fries in town but no longer. My favorite time here used to be on Tuesday when they had $2 almost anything... well actually almost every night of the week they USED to have some really great drink special going on so it is always was a good place to go for cheap drinks and decent food. In the past you could easily check out their website for the daily specials but now they don't have a functioning website? I also used to frequently end up here for various gatherings but the groups that I used to meet here don't seem to meet here anymore. Bruno's is a well priced bar, nice ambience and staff is courteous. This is a great option for grad students and locals, as less undergrads tend to come here than the boot or the palms (although there is a mixed crowd, to be sure). Food and drinks are good. However, it was a little bit of a surprise- I went with some friends and my partner. My partner was turned away and told that they wouldn't serve them for wearing a tank top, which the bartender said "was not a shirt". He was nice, it was just so odd. It was not cropped, had a high neckline and was T-shirt material, with thick straps, probably 3-4 finger lengths wide. It was plain black, with a logo from a local brewery. My partner had to walk home and change before coming back. Was a nice experience after that, but it was certainly a bit of a challenge to enjoy ourselves after having to deal with the strange rules. My daughter and I recently stopped in here for a quick bite and I'm glad we did! It's a college bar with good food, reasonable prices, and friendly service. Bruno's was established in 1934, and when you walk in you can feel the history. The close proximity to Loyola and Tulane makes it a popular choice with the students and alumni of both schools. I had the Shrimp Po' Boy and my daughter had a plain cheeseburger. We also split an order of their Cheese Fries. Everything was hot and tasty. I typically come here for the Tulane away football games. The chicken tenders are very good along with the waffle fries. The loaded fries are fun. Wings are good. Yeah, if you want something quick and don't care about presentation this is the place to go. Also they don't have a waitress/waiter so you'll have to go up to the bar to place your order, luckily I have common sense my friend and I were in town for Mardi Gras and went here for a late night eat. Neither one of us finished our dish on top of the chick at the bar over charging me for extra food. Bruno's is a great place in the middle of a residential area and if you were lucky enough to live next to it I would be out there every single day. Friendly service and look like really good food although we only sampled the cheese fries which were outstanding. Terrible experience. Ordered on Uber. Issue after issue. Didn't include ranch with the buffalo chicken sandwiches (despite the stating they come with it). Didn't include any napkins or utensils despite requesting it. The debris fries were soggy and just mush. Couldn't pick up or eat, would have needed a spoon. The worst though? One of the sandwiches was rotten. Chewy, rubbery, and grey. The other sandwich wasn't like that, so something was clearly wrong with it. If it wasn't rotten, then I don't know what. I understand we're in a pandemic so I'm not going to be harsh but we wanted to watch the saints game at a new location. Made reservations online through Open Table which were very easy to do. Loved that since not many bars offer reservations. However, when we arrived at 5:15 for our 5:30 reservation they said they were clearing off table for us. We waited till until 6pm to sit, missing the start of the game. We then didn't get a server until midway through the second quarter. We had the cheeseburger which didn't taste like anything but the fries were great. Wings -- eh. Tasted like frozen Tyson boneless Buffalo wings. Ahh...this is not the Bruno's of my youth, a place I spent MANY an hour (that would be the building where Rocco's is now), but it is big and airy so if the place was smoky I couldn't tell. I liked that our server was quick to mention 1/2 price appetizers (maybe because the kitchen was about to close which would make sense since it was around 1 am). We used to live in the neighborhood so we would come here somewhat regularly as the food used to be pretty good and the frozen Moscow mules are great. However, our most recent visit will definitely be our last. While our waitress was very pleasant the management was very rude and behaved in a way that was dishonorable to the establishment and my family and the food was less than mediocre. I had a salad which was made with old iceberg lettuce, there was no real salad green in sight, my son had the chicken tenders which he enjoyed, and my husband had a sandwich that he said was only okay. I can't think of Bruno's without remembering the old location (now Rocco's). I also can't think of the modern Bruno's without thinking of DJ Jubilee and his world famous bounce hit "Westbank Showdown". This version of Bruno's still has cheap drinks, a DJ whose partner pours lemony shots down girls throats, and an area for dancing. It is much larger than the old location, but still retains that cheesy college bar charm. There is not too much more to say. If you like cheesy college bars with dance music, come here. Seriously - the horrifically uninterested, unmotivated and mad-at-capitalism young lady "working" the bar was a sight to behold. I am not sure it was the hoodie wrapped around her head, the book she was reading or the 2 friends that she was visiting with (and the only people that she engaged with) - but the combination of it all screamed - "please leave". So we did and we will not be be back. Food was fine and I can only hope that she shares the much deserved meager tip (15%) that I left her with the only truly hard working person at this establishment. My friends and I went to Bruno's for the first time because we were looking to play trivia on a Sunday and Bruno's has it! As far as trivia goes, it was pretty standard. 8 rounds with 8 questions in each round- music, movies, random stuff. The sound system was poor (strange acoustics) and it was hard to hear the host. She spoke quickly, firing question after question, 2-3 breaks, and we finished in about 1.5 hours. Prizes are pitchers. Not my favorite trivia place in New Orleans, but it wasn't bad. They have a full bar and beers on tap. I just stuck with Canebrake. My friends and I shared the boneless chicken wings, fried mac & cheese, and debris fries. Chicken wings and debris fries were below average. We ordered the 10 piece breaded chicken wings, medium spicy. The texture of the chicken was a little strange and flavor wasn't great. I found it weird that they were sliced into small chunks. The debris fries had roast beef, pepper jack and cheddar cheese. The fries were nicely cooked and crispy, but the flavor was a little off- maybe it was the type of cheeses or the sour cream. Fried mac and cheese was definitely the best thing we ordered. They came in little triangles, lightly fried, and the pasta and cheese were cooked nicely on the inside. Overall, it's a nice large space to watch sports. Each booth has its own TV, that can be changed to any channel you want. Also plenty of larger TVs all around. There's a large bar and the service was pretty good. Mmmm... I got Bruno's delivered tonight and given that it's Monday I got some red beans and rice with a shrimp po-boy. The beans were sooooo yummy, super smoky yet perfectly cooked. Vegetarians beware because there was at least one meat chunk. The po-boy was AMAZING- insanely crispy shrimp with delicious toasted bread. The only downside was that it was a little dry because I don't think there was any mayo. I had my first real visit at Bruno's this week. Went in to watch the Heat vs. Clippers game on Wednesday with C. They had the $2 long neck special and half off food with student ID deal. They also had $3 soco lime shots, which I took advantage of. Lol. I ordered the One Eyed Jack burger because just about everyone on Yelp says that you have to try it. I don't know if I was just not super hungry that night but I was full after half of this burger. C and I also got the wings. I wasn't such a huge fan of the wings. They were alright. I'm considering going over to watch some more NBA tonight but it's kinda cold and I don't feel like biking anywhere tonight, so I will most likely just stay home. Lol. read more

This is definitely a college bar so if you don't like that kind of thing this place isn't for you. They have at least 15 televisions in the joint with one tv at each booth. The perfect place to go watch college football/NFL or March Madness! The drinks are good and decently priced. On Wednesdays they have $5 bottles of wine. I will give this place a five star review if the owner never shows up again. The bar is great, the staff is friendly, the portions are generous and the crowd is fun! The entire bar was getting along and combining groups and doing shots and just generally having fun... then the owner walked out and shouted at the bartender to "turn the f-ing music down" as he waddled from the back room to the bathroom (music, might I add, which we were all singing along to). Instantly everyone in the bar acted as though it was first grade and someone had gotten in trouble. Just a really annoying thing to do and ticked me off. I would not recommend coming here. I cancelled something on my order and it took over a week to get a call back from the manager to just talk about getting a refund. They also took my receipt before I could sign it or write anything and gave themselves a five dollar tip. When I finally got in touch with the manger I told him what had happen he assured me I'd get my refund and tip back, yet they made sure to keep their tip. I could see this place being a decent spot to drink at, which is the ONLY reason im giving it more than one star. Even if food may not be the main focus of the establishment, theres no excuse for the abomination i was served. Not to mention i sat at an empty bar waiting close to 15 minutes for someone to greet me or even acknowledge me while the staff was busy eating and drinking behind the counter.
