I find brunetti's to be totally over rated. Yes they have some delicious looking desserts, but so do many other places. In my experience the food has only ever been so-so... Although the macarons are typically spot on! The service here is always great and deserves the reputation. Magical has always been a word that describes Brunetti. The atmosphere it provides combined with the delicacies they offer makes for a very magical dining experience, even though there are a considerable quirk or two which also needs to be addressed. First and foremost, though, the delicacies. All of Brunetti's delicacies are made with amazing quality. The personal favorite, the cheesecake, has always been the same exact amazing quality every time I visit. You can taste the prominence of the cheese and the creaminess of the dairy. The way the cake breaks when you plunge your fork into the cake is just mouth watering. It is absolutely amazing. The pricing of the products that Brunetti sells is modest. You won't be able to go expect 'cheap' products as the products they sell are definitely not 'cheap'. Their quality, as stated previously, is tip top and is definitely worth every cent you spend. Service is adequate however the place can get fairly crowded. During the evening, where all the hungry people of Melbourne rush into Brunetti to get a slice of the cake--sense the pun there--you'll find that there may be a little bit of a wait before you can order your food. This is, of course, not a deal breaker as once you do get a spot on ordering your food, those precious seconds that you spent to order is brilliantly justified. In all amazing things there will always be a quirk of some sort, and in the case of Brunetti there is one BIG quirk. Toilets. For some reason, whilst Brunetti was being built, the managers of this store forgot to incorporate toilets into their establishment. It's a very BIG inconvenience, especially since you'd expect basic necessities whenever you visit a restaurant. This, though, shouldn't put you off from visiting Brunetti as there are lots of toilets around the area. Overall, Brunetti is another Café that should be on your food list. It deserves your attention and is longing for you to try out its delicacies. If you're near Lygon St and are up for amazing cakes then hit up Brunetti, you won't regret it. read more

I love a bit of cheesecake personally - especially the ricotta one so I can pretend I'm being healthy. (Yeah...I'm not sure how that works wither but it works for me okay...) The main issue I have with this place is that it's quite confusing to order. There are so many people drooling at the counter it's hard to know who is ordering, who was next and even if you should be ordering at any part of the counter. My only complaints are due to its popularity it is often crowded and noisy, and it seems rather clinical. If you are looking for a place with more 'soul' then there are plenty of small cafes near by. They are now in the former Borders store location on Lygon street and the conversion from bookstore to Italian bakery / cafe is stunning. There are waiters and waitresses to clean your table however you have to go up to the counter to order and pick up your dessert/drinks. Don't be fooled by the staff walking around. Both were delicious but a little on the sweet side for me. The macchiato and mocha were both great but nothing memorable. Definitely a good place to check out and fulfill your sweet tooth cravings as there's always something for everybody. And if you are counting calories or trying a variety of things, they have cakes that come in mini sample sizes. For Melbourne city i thought this place was fairly affordable and decent. read more

I won't waste anyone's time with niceties... everything I tried was terrible. It was so bad that much of the two desserts, coffee, and hot chocolate were left behind. I would have asked for my money back, but frankly I just wanted to leave. Coffee was bland, like something you might find at a dinner where waitresses call you "Hon" except not as fresh. The hot chocolate was made from cocoa rejected by Ovaltine. The cannoli... I think I would have preferred to eating the ones from "The Godfather III" while being forced to watch "The Godfather III"... it was clearly stale, the shell rubbery and not crisp, the chocolate waxy, all of it had a musky flavor barely masking the cloying sweetness without a hint of cream or chocolate flavors. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure I had a second bite. Finally was some fruit cream thing that just tasted wet and rubbery, way too much gelatin in the mousse and glaze. Whatever flavor it had wasn't as advertised or anything approaching "good." I am gobsmacked by how crowded this place was, it doesn't speak well to this city's food sensibilities. Cleanliness was fine, service was slower than you'd hope for this quality, but like I said, it was crowded. read more

Brunetti's is premiere shop in Melbourne for Italian desserts. They have a beautiful cafe on Lygon street. Prepare to stare slack jawed and drool when you walk by their display cases filled with impressive gorgeous cakes, cookies, and sweet treats. I bought a takeaway tiramisu dessert for a friend and was I warmly greeted and received very good customer service from the friendly staff. I definitely plan to visit Brunetti's again. read more
