This place is legit!! Every time I'm at the Gorge this is my go to place. Especially after a day of hiking. This is the place to refuel. Everything I have ordered here has never let me down. From the burger and fries to the breakfast menu have all been exceptional. If your health conscious this is not your place. It is real food straight from your granny's kitchen. The prices can't be beat especially for portion sizes. Also the staff are amazing and can work circles around any high end Lexington restaurant. Loved this place. It was down home and friendly. The service was good and the food was very affordable. I can't recommend this place enough. Just be advised they don't take credit cards. My only regret is that I am just passing through and don't have the opportunity to have breakfast there too. I got the double cheeseburger which was huge and delicious. I haven't had a chance to eat there in a long time but the food used to be delicious. Everything was homemade and the prices were very inexpensive. I heard the dear sweet old lady passed away that made the pie. She was such a sweet precious lady. I was staying at the Red River Gorge. and asked the front desk of my hotel where a good place to get breakfast was they recommended this place. It definitely has that homey local dive feel to it. Excellent breakfast place. Be aware though, they only take CASH. I had to walk across to the gas station to pull money out. Home fries are to die for, eggs were cooked perfectly, gravy and biscuits...gravy was ok, needed some sausage in it to give it more taste and the biscuits were blah. I also had the pork tenderloin which was very good, especially dipped into the gravy. Service was good, even with a first time waitress. It is what it is, a bland restaurant serving mostly fried frozen food. It's OK if you go for breakfast and just get bacon and eggs. They really stay within their safety zone and mostly serve pre-packaged junk food. If you order wisely you won't be disappointed. But you won't be blown away either. Yes, it's a dive. But it's a dive with nothing quirky to say WOW! this place is a hole in the wall, but you have to try their rabbit stew!!! Nothing like that at all. But if you want just a decent breakfast, or lunch with deep fried shrimp, pre-packaged cocktail sauce, and an Ale-8, then you won't be disappointed. It's pretty clean, for a dive. Yelp! does it again. We were in the area and needed lunch. Yelp suggested this place and wow was it so worth the trip. Both the outside and inside epitomize "Little Hole In The Wall". But don't judge this book by its cover. Our party of four left happy, full and more than willing to return again. Me and the two boys had amazing bacon double cheeseburgers, two with onion rings and one with fries. Both sides were very good. I also tried the chili hot dog. The sauce was good but not quite the way I really like it. My wife had the pork tenderloin with yams and fried apples, cole slaw and corn bread. A whole lot of food for an amazing price. The tenderloin was melt-in-your mouth juicy with a flattop grill crust on both sides. I guess the sides and cornbread was good, I didn't get the chance to sample it. Haha. All this great food and four soft drinks for $35/with tip. This place is within sight of the Mountain Parkway. If you are hungry make the stop, it is soooo worth it. read more

Four stars for the gem! We were driving through eastern KY, and all we wanted was some good cheap diner food- and we found it! This place has a pretty thorough menu, and the service is as friendly as they come. I recommend just calling things from the menu a la carte, and seeing how it all works together- it worked out great for me! We may have gotten used to city living, so it was shocking to sit down here and some guy is sitting with 2 toddlers and chain-smoking at the next table. It seemed that all of the dozen or so customers in here was smoking. Then there was the lady swatting flies with a flyswatter. And the flyer for the Southern Brothers picnic next week, adorned with Confederate flags.. but it's a small-town diner, and we had no higher expectations. We had a Sunday morning breakfast. This place is something else...i wanted to turn around when I saw the building, but there's very few food options for breakfast in the area so we tried it. Immediately upon walking in I regretted the decision as it's just as run down inside. I honestly felt very uncomfortable in there and felt like an "outsider". I honestly am utterly dumbfounded at the number of good reviews...they don't tell you up front it's cash only, so at the end of our very bad meal I had to go to an ATM and return to pay them. Also probably the worst bacon I'd ever had in my life there, the pancakes tasted what you'd get at a bad hospital cafeteria. The coffee was like dirty dishwater. I came in about 5 minutes after the rest of my group for breakfast, who had already ordered and gotten drinks. The waitress didn't come back to the table for 10-15 minutes, with the food for everyone else, and finally gave me a menu, after I asked for one, and took my order AFTER the rest of the group got theirs. 20 minutes later, I still had no food or drink, and the group had to leave, so I had to leave without eating! Don't let the run down outside appearance fool you, this place is amazing for prices cheaper than fast food. We live in ohio but were traveling through from red river gorge on a Sunday right around when the church people go out for lunch. One thing you should know before you eat here is that they only accept CASH. I'm sure the locals know that but there was no sign posted for travelers. My boyfriend is a head chef and I was a cook in the fine dining industry so we know food and this food was delicious. We got the double cheeseburger, bbq sandwich, onion rings, fries, Cole slaw and potato salad and a soda all for 11 dollars. That is not a mistype, 11 dollars even. Every single bite we took was delicious and they didn't skimp on the portion sizes. This is down home country food made right. We will definitely be back the next time we are in town. read more

This is very nostalgic Mayberry feeling diner that is known for its simple country dishes and pies. The outside and inside decor should be overlooked in its simplicity and the focus should be on the taste and reasonable prices offered. An apparent favorite with the locals and for me when I'm strolling through the area. This was and will always be my favorite place to eat and drink as well as work. Formal owner Mildred E. Very loving , caring and wonderful person. Thoughts of her Grandsons my Husband's Grandmother as well as my own are what continues to keep me going. I got to say true family true love. Not much love around anymore. I find myself getting so tired in this world of anger or should I say seems someone always has a motive. Visited one of my hometown and family and got seems I even got hacked their. Ok small town cuisine. We ordered the 10 ounce steak which was 2-3 ounces of gristle and fat but whatever. If you want consistency in your meals while you travel, you can hit the arches (also available in Stanton). Also, Stanton is the county seat of a dry county so don't expect to order a beer with your meal. read more

This place was great. It was very small, but had the best customer service ever and really good home made food. As soon as I walked in and picked up a high chair for my son, a gentleman approached us who works there and offered to clean it for me. The chair wasn't dirty, but it was still super thoughtful because no one ever offers to clean those. Anyway, the food was great, the service couldn't be beat & we will definitely be going back! Solid breakfast food! It's a pretty homey place, people still smoke inside and I'm pretty sure it was cash only. It would be very hard to recommend any other breakfast diner for your money though- the food was very inexpensive!
