Cattleman's has amazing food,service, ambiance and prices. I highly recommend Cattleman's.

What has happened to this restaurant? This used to be our favorite steakhouse to visit, and we would drive a good distance to get here. The service has been on a steady decline for about a year, and our most recent visit was the most disappointing so far. The rolls were overbaked and dry, and they came out dark brown with no shine from butter on top. We didn't even finish the basket, and the small plates had uneaten rolls. The salad bar was stocked and clean, but the ranch dressing was watered down, and some items, like the chickpeas, looked a little off. The service was the biggest issue. Our server was surprisingly disrespectful. I wanted a small portion with no leftovers and planned to order a kid's meal, since there is an option to eat as an adult meal for an additional three dollars which would be a good addition to the $9.99 salad bar which usually leaves me too full for a regular entree. Instead of simply taking the order, I was given a lecture about how there was no point in "gaming the system" because I would end up spending just as much for less food. I even explained that I wanted to pay the extra charge and was not trying to avoid anything. The rest of our table ordered ribs and ribeyes, so we were not exactly trying to cut corners. It felt more like she wanted to push us into ordering more for the sake of a larger tip, especially since we were also pressured to order appetizers and desserts. Because of the awkward experience, we ordered less and tipped less than usual. The manager did stop by our table, but when we gave a lukewarm response, he did not seem very interested. We are people who never complain, ever, but eating out is expensive, and there is a basic level of service and quality we expect for the money spent. Between the rolls, the service, and the fact that this is not our first disappointing visit in recent weeks, we will not be returning until we hear that things have improved. (To add perspective, we ate at a different steakhouse the day before which was very slow due to new hires being trained, but we had no complaints whatsoever because the staff was friendly and the food was delicious.) read more

Service was terrible! Took around 10 min just to get greeted once we were seated. Server was very inattentive. Hard to get refills and the rolls were burnt to a crisp. The mac & cheese varied in temperature (some spots were still cold and others were scalding hot.) We repeatedly asked our waitress for rolls and she failed to serve. I again tried to get her attention for ketchup and said "excuse me" she replied "I'm getting your rolls." I proceeded to ask for ketchup. Food was less than mediocre and service was awful. read more

I've never had service so bad before, we have tried this location a few times and we have had the same issues each time. One of the biggest issues is the salad bar, the oranges that are served are always spoiled and rotten and when you are charging 9.99 for a salad bar the least you could do is make sure the items served are fresh. The steaks are always under seasoned and the cook is under or over, I have not yet had a steak that is actually medium rare. Honestly I wouldn't have left a bad review expect today was the last straw when the manager of the establishment was very rude to us, we raised our concern to him and he dismissed us and blamed it on us and did not take in responsibility on the issues. I never thought I would get blamed for someone's restaurant serving spoiled product. We will not be coming back and we will be driving the extra 30 minutes to go to morehead instead. Hopefully they will make some changes because we do like the restaurant but just not this location! 1 star is too many I wish I could rate it -5 star! read more

Visited on 10/21/23 and ordered the prime rib with french fries. Don't bother ordering french fries here - they always come out cold and rubbery. The prime rib was ok but a little underdone. If you find yourself in Mt Sterling, KY this is a good bet for a decent meal. The service was very good the ribeye was a bit thin for a 12oz but likely weighed exactly that. I prefer a thicker cut of meat. The temperature was exactly as I ordered. The potato was not over or under cooked and plenty of butter and sour cream as I had asked for it. A bottle of cider($6.50) and the steak ($26.99) the total before tip was $36.21. The restaurant was literally beside my hotel so it was convenient and this is a chain I see but usually goto competition that is usually nearby. This was the only steakhouse I saw and gave it a try. The decor was typical steakhouse. I sat at the bar as I usually find quick attentive service doing this and makes for a quick dinner. Tuesday the staff was possibly a little lighter (1 server/bartender with several booths to also take care of plus the rest of the servers bar drinks so she was running constantly. No fault of anyone and she was very efficient and took care of everyone. I would not hesitate to dine here again. read more

Got seated right way. Got our drinks right away. Waitress took our order. I order a ribeye they where out i order the new York strip medium rare. My husband order a sirloin medium. Both with the salad bar. Get to the salad bar no lettuce had to wait for it. Which is also when the waitress informed me they was out of New York strip. So had to go with a sirloin. How the heck do you run out of steak and your a steak house. Took 30+ minutes for the food to come out. Food gets to the table husband's steak has no seasoning, my steak was rare. Sent it back asked for it to go because everyone else already ate. 30 minutes later still no remake of my steak. Waitress drops off check 70 bucks. Still waiting for my remake. Finally husband gets up and tells her just for get about it. Take my steak off because I didnt get to eat. Manager comes. Doesn't really say anything about what happened. Gave a half ass apology. So we get the new check. Still freaking 40 bucks. Lay card down wait another 20 minutes still no Waitress to pick it up finally just lay cash down and walk out. Worst experience ever. read more

Normally our service at Cattleman's is great. Tonight at the one in Mt. Sterling was very disappointing. We were seated immediately which was nice, but sat there 10 minutes waiting on someone to take an order for anything. About 5 minutes in to that wait a couple was seated beside us and had their drinks ordered and delivered and was giving the waitress their food order and we hadn't seen anyone. My wife asked the waitress who was leaving the table beside us if she could find out who our server was and all that girl did was look at her and keep walking! That was all it took, so we left and went to Cracker Barrel. We hope to come back but even when I told the hostess about our problem as we were walking out she didn't offer to fix anything. Great service at the bar with Hannah. Been to this chain a few time and this was by far my best visit. Had the Thursday special of Country Fried Chicken. Wasn't sure about ordering it because I didn't see any reviews on the chicken version on any of the CR locations in the Lexington area. It was a little heavy in breading, but overall the dish's with mashed and white gray worked. Always like their salad bar. Would do this again! Hannah was great! read more

NOT GOOD FOR PARTIES. They have a terrible system where they made our party wait for 2 hours before being sat. We saw plenty of people go back that came into the restaurant after us and only waited 15 minutes, if at all. I don't know what the deal is, but this needs to be figured out. Don't try this with more than 4 people, maybeeee 6. The bar is first come first serve. I was so ready to give this place a 1 star review. But our server made the past 2 hours of frustration melt away. She was amazing, so quick, so attentive, didn't miss a beat, and gave exceptional service. She brought extra of the delightful rolls with cinnamon butter. She gave us a rough recipe for a side that the party loved. The kitchen was pretty quick. We ordered apps and entrees at the same time and the apps still came out first. The potato skins were good, but nothing to rave about. I ordered bourbon chicken with fries and broccoli. It was very tasty! The sauce had a lot of flavour and was fantastic on top of the broccoli and for the fries to be dipped in. Everything was filling and reasonable for the price. The experience absolutely ended on a high note. I would give the service 5 stars and the food 4, but the wait was just horrible. Otherwise a clean restaurant and not too noisy. This establishment does not even deserve this measly 1 star rating as it, in all its measly-ness, is a far too generous rating. Yelp auto selected 'service'. However, my rating is regarding food quality, just to be clear. Here goes... If your self proclaimed fame (according to the waitstaff shirts) is 'great steaks' then by all means one should expect to indeed be served 'great steaks'. My mother in law, who had been wanting to patron Cattleman's in Morehead, my Aunt, who raved about her recent visit to Cattleman's, and I--with 'great' expectation--walked into Cattleman's (purveyor of great steaks) to partake of what should have been, but wasn't, a 'great steak'. Now let me say that all started off shaky. Coffee taking forever to make it to the table. Waiter promising to make a new pot since, by his own acknowledgement, had been sitting for awhile. Then there was the rolls that had been sitting under warmers too long as well. For the purpose of either entertaining us or buying time, not sure which, one hockey puck roll was brought out to our table to demonstrate how hard the rolls were. However, fresh ones were on the horizon. We each ordered steaks 2 Haystacks and 1 Cattleman. All three were ordered medium well. We each also added the salad bar to our meal. One trip to the salad bar and by the time we were about finished with our salad bar here comes old coffee, fresh rolls and on the heels of that our steaks. Mine was over cooked (no slight pink in the center) and my mother in law's and Aunts was medium rare (mostly pink in the center). I ate mine as it was because I did not want to wait for another steak. However, the other two steaks were sent back 3 times before it came back medium well. Each time though coming back smothered with more bourbon sauce. By the last time it was sent back the entire dining experience was ruined and the steaks came back so tough it was only fit for scraps. Know who never once came to our table to inquire of our meal? The manager. Know who was paying Cattleman's a visit? The Regional Manager, Nicole, who also did not come to our table as a professional courtesy to inquire of our not so 'great steak' experience. Want to know what was done for us to compensate for these 'great steaks'? Our salads were comped. Salads we had no issues with. The salads were the best part of our meal (the only 'great' part of our meal) and that is what was compensated. Either you stand behind the claim of 'great steaks' or you don't make that claim at all. And if you have a position as manager/regional manager don't hide behind a $15 salad compensation for 2 undercooked and one overcooked steaks that were anything but great! Cattleman's corporate office will be getting a call from me because I expected great and Cattleman's fell miserably short of that and then tried to pacify us with that ridiculous salad compensation. After compensation we walked out with $70 worth of leather woefully identifying as steaks that dogs will hopefully not choke on when it is fed to them. I stopped in to Cattleman's for a late midweek lunch. I have visited a number of times before, but always on weekends or evenings. Sometimes crowded and requiring a twenty minute wait at peak hours, Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons, but mid afternoon on a Thursday afternoon it was pretty quiet. Jordyn was my server and she did a fine, efficient job. She kept my ice tea glass full and brought some excellent hot rolls. I have had steaks or burgers before and have always found them to be above average at good prices. Today I had only the salad bar, but this was plenty. The salad bar is a high point at Cattleman's and a favorite of many locals. Ingredients seem to always be exceptionally fresh and an excellent choice of salad components and dressings are available. In addition to standards, the salad bar features exceptional bow tie pasta and broccoli salads, plus a homemade potato salad that is truly excellent. My cost, minus gratuity, was less than $12. Although I had never been in the bar area before, I lunched there today and found it to be warm and inviting. TVs line the walls and it look like a good place to meet for a ballgame. I noted that although their beer list was somewhat limited, the numbers of available wines and mixed drinks were adequate. Their choice of bourbons (this is Kentucky, you know!) was extremely impressive and was referred to as Cattleman's Bourbon Trail. All in all, Cattleman's is a much better than average chain steakhouse. I recommend it! read more

The steaks and salad bar are great but they seem to employ the most obnoxious greater and seater possible. She was practically laying on the desk looking at the computer when we came up. Didn't even pretend to look up. We waited standing there until another gal that just happened to be there greeted us. Then she glacéd up, looked at the computer again and then seeming bothered, sat us in the very back of the coldest room by the fake fire that gives no heat. Other diners complained of the cold also. This greeting deal has happened the last 4 times we've been there. We'd go elsewhere but there's no other steakhouse in town. I must say however the waitresses all are terrific. Very friendly. I honestly can't say enough good things. If I could give it 6 stars I would. I consider myself to be frankly kind of a food snob, and a bit of a Karen (if you're familiar with the memes). My girlfriend and I are both from big cities (Indianapolis and Chicago) and we both love exploring new restaurants. On a hiking trip we stopped near the cattleman's to stay in a hotel before hiking red river gorge, we had zero expectations. I expected to have a below average Applebee's or outback steak house style experience. And it was anything but. Not a fancy innovative dinning experience by any means. But if you want, steaks, burgers, chicken, ribs, or anything like that, you won't be disappointed. Luke was our server. He was awesome, the manager also came by a few times to check on us, she was super sweet as well. The man carried plates that were easily 200 degrees I couldn't even touch, bare handed and still made it to the table without dropping a thing. Our food was hot from the first bite to the last. We both cleaned our plates. The local beers on draft were both great. Read a lot of reviews before deciding to try it. As I mentioned before didn't have high hopes, far exceeded my expectations. Also tables are spaced well beyond 6ft with covid, and all the staff had masks on. Service was 6/5 Food was 6/5 Prices 5/5 (some may say it's on the pricier side but honesty the quality matches it.) I chose Cattleman's because it is right next to the hotel where we are staying, and I didn't feel like driving. There are lots of other places here in town where you can get a good meal, but Cattleman's seems to really be setting the bar High. I ordered the beef tips with a side of fries and a local beer in a pint glass. The food was hot and flavorful, the beer was cold and flavorful, everything that you could want. They're following the CDC guidelines with all employees masked, tables and booths are socially distanced, and everything appeared to be clean and orderly. My wife and I went out for our anniversary. I ordered a medium filet and my wife ordered medium well. Also ordered cheese fries. The fries were completely undercooked, pretty much just thawed out and some of the cheese wasn't even melted. My wife's filet was supposed to be medium well and was WAY over cooked. My filet that was supposed to be medium was literally so undercooked I'm pretty sure you couldn't even consider it rare and also had a ton of fat. We were traveling from Illinois to West Virginia on Saturday, April 9th 2022 and decided to spend the night in Mt. Sterling at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites (highly recommend) and Cattleman's Roadhouse was close to the hotel so we decided to eat there. Excellent decision. When we pulled into the parking lot it was pretty full, so we figured there would be a wait. It was definitely busy, but there wasn't a wait, and we were seated almost immediately. Our server was extremely friendly and the service was way faster than I expected it to be considering the number of people dining. I ordered a tall Blue Moon draft, and my wife ordered a diet soda. We had the crab cake appetizer, and both ordered steaks. I had the Black + Bleu Sirloin cooked medium rare with a side of loaded mashed potatoes. It was cooked perfectly, and was a very thick cut of steak that cut extremely easy. It was super enjoyable to eat. My wife ordered the Cattleman's Choice Top Sirloin cooked medium rare as well, and had them add sautéed onions and mushrooms on top, with a baked sweet potato as her side. She said her meal was excellent too. Neither one of us chose to get the salad bar, but it looked like it was very clean, well maintained and stocked with fresh items. The entire restaurant looked very clean, and the bathrooms were clean as well. The crab cake appetizer was delicious, but if I had one bit of constructive criticism it would be that they cost too much for what you receive. They're basically small deep fried crab balls that seemed a little bit smaller than a golf ball, and you only get five or six of them for $14.99. In comparison, my steak dinner cost $15.99. I don't really pay too close attention to prices of appetizers before ordering them, so when we got the bill and saw how much they were I just kind of chuckled and thought to myself "Well those were totally not worth $15, but oh well, it is what it is now." The dinner rolls were awesome too, warm and fluffy, and the butters were great. I would most definitely stop at another Cattleman's location while traveling, and I must say that having this restaurant in a town of under 7,000 people must be a real treat for them. It's awesome to have such a great restaurant in a small town like that. If I lived in Mt. Sterling I would go eat at Cattleman's Roadhouse and have drinks at their spacious bar at least once a week. The Cattleman's Roadhouse is a classic steak and salad stop. The salad bar is always fresh with crisp greens with a nice variety of toppings. It's not too fancy, a comfortable sit-down meal with friends any day of the week. It tends to be a little loud and we could live without the "yes-haw" birthday songs, but overall a consistently decent meal when you don't feel like cooking. read more

Checked into the Comfort Inn next door so immediately picked this place for dinner. Nice size parking lot and large building, rush hour and only had a 2 minute waiting time. We ordered fried pickles for an appetizer and waited less than 5 minutes for them to come out, they were seasoned to perfection and right out of the fryer. They offered a thousand island dipping sauce that complimented them just right. Along with the pickles we received complimentary rolls with an amazing cinnamon butter. Holy moly, delicious!! For dinner I ordered a 10oz ribeye medium rare and my girlfriend ordered their chicken tenders. We waited less than 10 minutes and our food was out and extremely fresh. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare as requested with a nice crispy sear to it. The chicken fingers had a awesome batter that was really good. Served with macaroni that was super cheesy and creamy. Definently would recommend! This beats out any other steak restaurant in the area by far. Hope to come back again some day! read more
