Unfortunately, this chain has passed its prime! I waitressed at one of their restaurants years ago and it was delicious and a great place to hang out for happy hour or any hour. The best items on the menu have been removed and they change the menu too often. This particular restaurant started out strong because previously alcohol could not be served. I think alcohol is the only thing saving this restaurant. The service is slow and it takes FOREVER to get your food. Do not order any unlimited item unless you planning on being there for the day. That being said, my mom ordered spinach dip. We went ahead and ordered soup and salad. The spinach dip was good and hot. The chips were crisp but a bit greasy . Our food FINALLY arrived. The cheese on the French onion soup was melty, but not golden or browned. The salad had decent flavor, but the chicken obviously came with grill marks. My mother's experience was the same. We didn't order a refill. Patricia (Patti) was our waitress. She has been here forever and is a local gem !! All the locals want her to serve them as she is very efficient! Waited about 10 minutes to be sat down since no one was up front hosting. Ordered our food (an appetizer) and waited about half an hour before it was brought to us... cold. Asian chicken salad was very plain. Seemed like the bagged romaine and cabbage salad mix with what seems like cut up frozen chicken fingers. I think the only thing that qualified it as Asian was the wonton pieces. I haven't been to Applebees for a while and now I remember why.. the food is always so sub-par. we walked in, ordered our food maybe 10 minutes after sitting down and waited nearly an hour to get our food. we ordered and appetizer and got it avoid 20 minutes later. the food was room temp, and you could tell it had been sitting out. our server was sweet and good on refills. but the table next to us had a table piled high of plates that needed to be taken and their server just didn't pick up a single plate until after they had left instead of asking if she could clear some of it up and get it out of their way. overall it wasn't a pleasant experience. I wouldn't waste my money on it again. I'd also like to add there weren't that many people in the restaurant so waiting that long was a little ridiculous. And yes, I've been a server before and worked in the restaurant industry. went in to have dinner, there was nobody up front to seat anyone, we stood there for quite some time, I finally went to the back to ask the waitresses for some help, 4 of them standing there talking doing nothing ... I asked who was seating their customers and one spoke up and said nobody, one of us will well ....they never came to seat us and another family left after standing there and waiting don't waste your time this is the last time we will go there and try to eat this is the second time this has happened. where is your management at Applebees ?! read more

Service was slow, steak tasted like the grill hadn't been cleaned for a VERY long time, and the 'steamed" green beans were chewy and leathery. We needed 2 tables put together for our party of 6 adults and one toddler. After reading the reviews I was hesitant but since I have had bad and good experiences at other locations I decided to give it a chance. I am glad we did. There was an issue when we checked in with the hostess but that was due to a group of men that came after we did and tried to bully the manager and hostess into seating them first. The manager and hostess both apologized and did manage to see us at the same time. Our server was amazing and always made sure we had plenty of drinks. She also made sure to put in the order for Riblets and tenders before my dining pals needed them. (It was an all you can eat Riblets and chicken tender Event. )She even got us refills to go which is good since we were staying in a hotel. The food came out at a good speed considering how busy they were. The restaurant was clean and everything was cooked perfectly. I had the Parmesan Steak and it was cooked to perfection (Medium). This doesn't always happen at a steak house so when it happens they are a winner in my book. I would eat here again if in the area. read more

Average restaurant for the chain. Fiesta Lime Chicken is my personal favorite and the staff is typically helpful/friendly. The steak wasn't worth the money, but I do enjoy the full bar. The strawberry LIT is great. If you are a fan of chicken fettuccini Alfredo stay away, it tastes like a weight watchers microwave meal. read more

Bless their hearts. I came here for my Veterans Day meal. I asked the hostess for the special menu and was seated immediately in the bar area. The waitress was kind, I ordered an Ale8 and wonton tacos to start, my favorites. They came out in approximately 15 minutes. I then ordered whatever the burger option was, it came out 40 minutes later. No big deal, maybe the cooks had to change out the fryer oil, or dig in the freezer. Then the check comes, full price for everything (only the burger should have been free). I explain to the waitress about the vets day meal, show my military ID and she leaves. The supervisor then comes up, I explain again. She says she will take care of it, then brings me a bill, where she manually entered in each item (instead of the meal option) which is actually more than the previous bill . I explain again, get blank stares. Tell them no problem not wanting to create a scene, and pay via the kiosk thing at the table, I'm not trusting these people with my credit card. No harm, no foul, I usually just tip the amount of the free meal cost to the server, they deserve it. The place wasn't slammed, there was 4-7 other people there, most of which were vets ( wearing their campaign hats and shirts) , so I'm guessing it was a common issue. Long story short, go to the Waffle House next door, the food will be fresh, come out faster, probably taste better, and they give military discount every day. read more

I brought my family here. My daughter. Loves playing on the tablets while she's waiting on her food. They always have some kind of special which is nice. We only had a 15 minute wait in a Friday night surprisingly. The food was exactly what we asked for. My wife wasn't a fan of the Bourbon Chicken and Shrimp. She normally gets the same meal but it was burnt and she didn't want to complain. We got desert to go and it was all good. Service was good and our server was pleasant. There is a reason why most locals in Mt. Sterling do not eat at their Applebees. I wanted to give them another try so i opted for this place on Friday night. First of all, I have to give credit to the waiter. He did an excellent job. Drink remained filled and he was very prompt. However, my food was cold! There is a consistent problem with this restaurant with their kitchen. It hasn't changed for the last 10 years. Not sure why I expect it will ever get any better. I hope our out of town guest continue to eat here. Good for the economy and the Applebees are more than likely better in other cities. Not the case in Mt. Sterling. Normally don't do places like Applebee's but needed a beer and break driving back from Lexington and stopped here. Had the 2 for $25 Chicken & Shrimp bourbon street meals with side salads and was pleasantly surprised. Not bad for a $40 meal. read more

We only came here because we had a gift card... Mount sterling is small and so are the dining choices. We were seated and we,both asked for waters, which took about 10 minutes to bring. We did the 2 for twenty which includes an,appetizer and 2 entrees. The food took at least 30 minutes to come out, and our appetizer came out about 5 minutes later after we told someone. Our poor server had so many tables he couldn't give us any refills. We just talked to the manager about the issues and asked kindly for our drink to be discounted. And now... This place has gone down hill extremely bad!!! I used to love going here but now you have very rude wait staff who seem to never come to the table to take your order or get you refills. The management allows a group of their off duty employees to sit in the big corner booth and all they do is bother the ones working and then the customers never get service. I quit going because if I am going to wait 20 minutes to order because my waitress is talking to her friends and then another 45 minutes for my food to come out I will go to a business that caters to fresh food and good service for their customers.
