My wife and I decided to have supper at the Brown's Social House in our neighborhood this week. We've been here before but this time the food was amazing. My wife had a bacon and cheese burger with yam fries, which, she said was delicious! I had the Ginger Beef, which I have to say, is probably one of the best that I have had in a long time! Been looking for really good Ginger Beef and I have found that a lot of the restaurants have it on their menu, but if I happen to order it, I find that the beef is tough and stringy, sauce has little to no flavor. This was "superb "!!! Service was good. The waitress made sure everything was good and that our drinks were fresh. I know that they are technically a sports bar, but the noise level at times was deafening. Nice to see young families enjoying their night out and also having a birthday celebration. A lot of places have Happy Hour and trending is to have late night Happy Hour. Social Browns calls their HH Social Hour and it runs feom 3 to 6 and 9 pm to close. Portions are scrooge like. We tried the maple bacon poutine.. yam maki.. spicy beef quesdilla and tempura cauliflower which was 1/3 cup. As feedback we let them know and their only response was they would talk to the kitchen. My partner and I came here for a quick bite and drinks on happy hour and over all the experience was about a 50/50. We ordered: Crispy cauliflower 8/10 Thai chicken bites 4/10 Little cowboy salad 4/10 Dynamite roll 7/10 Guinness 8/10 Amber beer 7/10 Gin mojito 7/10 Coffee martini 3/10 Half was good and would order again but half we wouldn't order again. The cowboy salad sounds better than it is on the menu, the Thai chicken is pretty salty, the dynamite roll was our fav, the crispy cauliflower was really good too. Both the drinks and food were quite expensive for what you get! The service was also a 50/50 we sat at the bar and when we got there the bartender was super good, but she must have been at the end of her shift and randomly we had a new bartender that was running around all over the place. Although she was very quick to make drinks for tables I was worried there would be an incident as she wasn't really aware of her surroundings. We had to flag her down (even tho we were sitting at the bar) to order another drink or get our bill. She did have a good recommendation for the coffee martini, she said next time I order it I should try it with no baileys and just a little simple syrup and it would taste more like a classic espresso martini. I will definitely try that next time. We came here for a late night happy hour sesh. Myself and a couple other mom friends, and we really enjoyed the atmosphere. The server was great and the hostess too! We didn't have to wait long for our drinks or food to arrive which can sometimes happen when you go for happy hour. The specials were decent, some $5 drinks and appie specials too. We ended up ordering a ton of appetizers and sharing it all. I was stuffed afterwards. The one thing I will say is that the yam and avocado sushi rolls were not clear in the description that it was a roll. I thought they were battered and tempura fried or like egg rolls type of thing. So we kind of ended up with more rolls than we bargained for but it was ok. I would definitely return to browns for happy hour again. Sitting at bar I received excellent service and a surprisingly delicious salad with a loaded burger during discounted Social Hour. So why a missing star? Temperature was incredibly hot. First time trying out this place today and I wasn't disappointed at all! The waiter was very polite and courteous. He refilled drinks constantly and was quick. We started off with the Korean fried chicken. Now, it's not my favourite and it's no Seoul Fried Chicken. It's basically cut up chicken breast that's been deep fried and covered with sweet gochujang. A bit dry but the portion was pretty good. We ordered the baja fish tacos and the steak and sushi as entrees. Baja fish tacos were good, the chipotle mayo they add makes it taste amazing. The steak was a bit over cooked (medium well) when we asked for it to be medium rare. However, it tasted good. Dynamite roll was just a bit too greasy for my taste. Key lime pie tied it all together and tasted BOMB. The coconut graham crust was delicious and the filling wasn't too sweet which allowed the tartness of the lime to stand out (compliments the sweet crust perfectly!). For the price you pay, I think it's quite fair since the portions are big. I would come back again as it's a great place to catch up with some friends or even a chill date night with your spouse. read more

OMG, the best burgers ever and well worth the wait! We were driving by and noticed this new restaurant a few weeks ago. We decided to try it out although it is a bit out-of-the-way unless you live in southwest Edmonton. The Windermere shopping area is really growing so new businesses are popping up everywhere but the parking lot isn't really finished yet so parking is quite limited. The place was packed when I arrived at 5:55 and was told it would be a 25 min. wait for a table for 4. There is really no waiting area inside the restaurant so the people waiting for their table is getting in the way of the staff. It looks like the patio will be set up so that will make the high traffic area even more congested. This is a restaurant/bar with that "pub" feel but I was surprised to see kids eating here. There are seats located around the bar, regular tables and booths laid-out in a square. As we were waiting for our table, we could see all the food leaving the kitchen and it all looked so good. Burgers were definitely a popular choice! The patty is homemade with a delicious pretzel-type bun that was very soft and fresh. There is a daily drink special but the regular price is very reasonable. We all enjoyed the food which was just the right portion. The service and staff was great, all the girls look like they enjoy working here. I will be back for sure and probably try another burger! read more

Better than expected. Went on a busy night, but still had attentive and friendly service. I really like the variety of drinks, the watermelon margarita was a refreshing delight. There's also properly poured pints of Guinness, nice touch. The food is a bit pricey but it is fresh and everyone in our group enjoyed their meals, with the exception of the burger, which was deemed "average". People also weren't great fans of the "double-fried" fries (too heavy) and the "Alaskan gravy" which was too light and subtilely flavoured for the fries. It would be better with a roast chicken. I liked that there were several fish selections, and opted for the potato-crusted halibut. The portion was small but very firm and flavourful, and I really liked the potato crumb breading, a nice light alternative to Panko or other crumb breading. I also opted to sub out the almond rice for the red cabbage with goat cheese for an extra dollar - well worth it! I also LOVED the Cowgirl salad, so many delicious ingredients, I'll come back just for that. Tip: many of the appies are also mains, but for $3 extra they're entrees which include a side, which purchased separately would be $6 or so. read more

We met friends for a weeknight dinner and they arrived at 7:30 to snag one of the few tables they had left. With the seating area before you enter in the main doors, I'm not sure where the waiting area would be. We were seated on bar stools and a long table that could fit 6 people. I really appreciated the hooks under the table for our purses. The menu has majority burger/sandwiches and fries and that seemed to be a popular choice among diners that sat around us. I decided to go for something different and ordered the shrimp and chicken Pad Thai. I asked the server if it was spicy and she said a little but I asked if I could have it with no spice which she said ok. It didn't seem the wait for the food was long but we were chatting and lost track of time. When my meal came out, all I saw was a bowl full of bean sprouts. Underneath were some noodles and I think shrimp and chicken. I ate two bite and it was too spicy for me. I don't know what they used for sauce but it didn't taste like other places where I had Pad Thai. My mistake to go to a pub type place and ordering Pad Thai! When the server came to check on us, I informed her my meal was too spicy and I couldn't eat it. I got the chicken sandwich and fries instead and she took away my bowl. My new meal came out fairly quickly and the sandwich was good. For about $17, it was priced a little higher than other burger places. Likely most of the food items are good, atmosphere is loud, and service wasn't very friendly. Don't think I will be returning anytime soon. read more

Browns Social House is a chain that can be found in most western Canadian cities. I have had the opportunity in eating at Browns in Dawson Creek, Grande Prairie and now here in Edmonton at the Windermere location. When we first arrived we noticed that it had an excellent location nearby the VIP movie theatre and other well known stores for shopping purposes. I could imagine many wanting to stop for a quick bite or for a drink after a night at the movies or a day of shopping. When we first entered the restaurant we noticed the atmosphere was at the top of its game and there was plenty of space. You could choose from sitting at the bar, to a booth or sitting at a high table. When we arrived on the Monday night there wasn't too many guests there but it was a Monday so I would imagine other nights would be busier. Staff are friendly and quick to find you a table and get your drinks started. After taking a look at the menu, we decided to order some appetizers along with a meal. There is a wide range of choices to choose from Dynamite Rolls, to Korean Fried Chicken to hamburgers and stirfrys. There is even a Sunday brunch option which I thought was fantastic. Good selection however, if you are into soups I only noticed one to choose from. Hopefully they can add some variety to their menus in the soup category for future visits. Once we placed we our order, which was two appetizers and 2 entrees we continued our conversation and made note that it wasn't too loud inside which was nice. There was lots of screens to choose from to watch your favourite sports game and I believe there wasn't any background music which sometimes increases the noise level. It was definitely a friendly "date" atmosphere to start those initial conversations. When the food arrived it looked fantastic. It took a bit long for the food to arrive and especially on a quiet night. However, the food was hot and had some wonderful tastes. I would say the food is above average but the wait times is concerning and so I would not go to this place if I were needing to be out by a certain time. However, if you have the time I think this place would be great. After the meals, we had a couple of drinks. One little mistake by the barkeep was salting a rim for a coffee drink which is an honest mistake. They kindly redid the drinks and were better the second time around, but the amount of time to find out about the mistake and correct the mistakes was about 10 minutes. We paid full for all of the drinks and I think honestly by the amount we spent on food and drinks, I believe one of the drinks should have been a "freebie" considering the mistake. They may have premium spirits to offer which would be nice to know about but for the highballs and mixing of drinks, I believe they use bottom row spirits which you can notice as soon as you take a sip. I would say food and atmosphere was great at Browns in Windermere, but I would be cautious in regards to wait times and how drinks are made. That would be my only critique. A group of 14 of us came here for an early Mother's Day brunch. We were there as soon as it opened since they do not take reservations, and they were quick to set up a long table for us. The server was very polite and on top of getting us our drink and food orders right away. I have been to different Brown Socialhouse locations before and usually for brunch because you normally don't have to deal with long lines or a crowd. This time I tried the Petite Social Salad, but I normally order the waffles. Piece of advice, always order three waffles instead of two. They look small, but this is deceiving. They are actually quite filling, and three waffles is the perfect amount. Very accommodating and our group of 14 all seemed satisfied with their meals (which is not an easy task with large groups). Highly recommend either the waffles or the eggs benedict for brunch! read more

We finally made it out to Brown's. We went around 4 pm, and there was no wait. Parking is a bit tight and will probably get tighter once more things are open around the area. The foyer area is a bit tight, as it is right next to the kitchen entrance, so it isn't the perhaps the best layout, but the restaurant itself has nice finishes and decor. There are an ample amount of televisions and nice music playing. There is a nice looking patio area that isn't quite yet open, which is likely because it is still somewhat cold out, but will be nice to eat on when the weather is suitable. We were given a seat by the window on stools, which was not bad. For some reason the people who were seated after us got service first, but actually had their food delayed for quite some period of time, although I saw the manager come out and apologize. It took a while for someone to come and see us, but we had our drinks taken in a pleasant fashion and were told about the drink specials. Our drinks came in a reasonably quick fashion and we had our orders taken. I ordered the bbq chicken pizza, which was not the best pizza I've ever had, and more of a flatbread, but still good nonetheless. The dame had fettucine carbonara with blackened chicken, which comes in a 1/2 or a full size. she had the full. This was very sizeable, and you get a large piece of semi-spicy chicken. The pasta was quite good. The server let us know before our food came out that it was just about ready, which was nice, and we had our drinks refilled without asking. Our bill was settled quickly, and we were on our way. There were about three staff standing right next to the door and none of the said bye or thanks. I don't really need that, but it's better than talking about unrelated work topics. Overall, we had a good time at Brown's. Our server was helpful and pleasant. Our food tasted great - the pasta more than the pizza, and the ding on my pocket book wasn't bad. We will be back. read more

I'd like to start with how nice the service was furor lunch. My husband ordered the chicken tacos without knowing they would be covered in scallions. He told the server he is not able to eat them. She apologized and quickly brought him his new selection. They were all very kind and accomodating. Extra hot sauce, no problem. Service with a smile. His burger was a gorgeous, juicy creation and his side salad was fresh with interesting ingredients. My halibut tacos were sooooo good. Full of yummy cilantro. (My favorite green thing). Goose Island IPA is always a nice thing to find on the draft beer menu. This place is just slightly better than Earls. As a chain restaurant goes, it performs well. The outdoor patio is glassed in for protection. Not much of a view yet, but you can sort of see a man made lake across the road and the odd wild hare hopping around. This was my first time here and I have to say the parking sucks but the food is fantastic! The calamari we had was hot and fast and the sauce that came with was a great match. The buns they use on their burgers are amazingly soft and delicious as well. The salad was crisp and fresh with a great melt in your mouth bread stick.
