    Crawdadding in Tualatin
    Jen K.

Pepperoni. That is the secret to good crawdading. And this park is our favorite spot. We used to live in the neighborhood until our recent move, so we could just walk down the hill, put a little pepperoni on a hook and reel them in (see photo). My husband was actually very ambitious and constructed a crawdad trap, but I think the hook works just as well. My youngest boy is obsessed with fishing so this provided hours of entertainment and a nice outing for father and son. This is a very natural park that was created in a flood plane. No playgrounds here. Just a park with wetlands and a prairie with natural grass for walking your dog, jogging, fishing or launching your canoe or kayak from the pier. Great birdwatching as well. The city was able to buy up a lot of riverfront property (due to said flood plane) so over the past five years the park has continued to expand. It was a very smart move since the Tualatin River flooded the banks at least four times in the ten years I lived in the neighborhood and water would extend all the way to (or across) Nyberg Lane. This park is also the site of a wonderful arts camp for kids, Willowbrook, in the summer months and Alder Creek operates a canoe and kayak rental from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Don't forget your pepperoni!

Not the boat house. Just an old barn.

Small but pleasant park.... Let's go Kayaking!!! Yep, this dock's for you. We can bring our own boats or rent a kayak or canoe at the boat house for an okay price. Just put on your PFD and push in. Paddle under the I5 up the Tualatin river to Cooks Park. Or head east toward the Willamette River. It is a nice and quite paddle in a calm part of the river.

It's not the most secluded spot, but is obviously much used by local dog walkers and runners. The noise from the freeway (I-5) detracts from the peace of the place as do the many large parking lots and housing developments within view. Still, it has some charm and is a better place to eat a sandwich than the mini mall parking lot. I saw some kayakers on the dock, and lots of folks strolling and chatting mid-afternoon. Better some green space than none!

    Kayaking the Tualatin river! :)

My husband and I enjoy kayaking the Tualatin river. Once you are embraced by the natural surroundings, it's like paradise! The water is mellow, so if you are a beginner or paddling with kids, this is the right place for you. There's a canoe and kayak rental place right in the park and just a step away from the boat dock. This park is well-maintained. As you walk in the park, the interpretive signs provide information about cultural history, the river and the nature in this area. Also a pleasant place for a picnic and wildlife viewing! :)

Great walking path and benches to enjoy the scenery or have a picnic. Next to Tualatin River.

Great place to rent a kayak, canoe, or sup. Plenty of parking and restrooms. Nice trails along the river to birdwatch, jog, or bike.

A very small but beautiful city park of Lake Oswego, this is a great place to walk your dog or take…read morea brief stroll around the neighborhood. There's plenty of parking, a patio area with picnic tables, and a small pavilion to stand outside while staying out of the weather. The park consists of a small wooded hill the parking lot is on, and a wide open field that ranges from a fence bordering River Grove Elementary, and reaching south down towards the Tualatin River. It's a peaceful quiet spot to feel in touch with nature on a nice day. Why is it only rated three stars then? Honestly, there's not a lot here. Aside from the open field, a couple of benches, and a motivational peace pole, that's it. There's no local playground or many other features that make Pilkington Park stand out from its other competitors across the city. The park doesn't even have proper bathrooms, and it feels as though the city reserved the space and started building a park, only to give up halfway with a minimalist response. While not the greatest park, it certainly is a good park, and is well worth the time to visit.

The grass was mowed and there isn't anything to hide your dog from sight, but the downside for us was that meant there wasn't anywhere for our pup to hide when she was ganged up on by bigger dogs. If your dog is comfortable with that, this is a great open area for them :)

Great park!! Definitely coming back!…read more The park is split into two areas for tots and older kids - There are two baby swings, a double slide, 4 ways to climb to the slide, a tunnel and a steering wheel for the tots. There is a bigger slide 4 ways to climb to it including a climbing bridge instead of a waking bridge, monkey bars, and a sliding raid and one platform swing. The park is covered in bark for the playgrounds but surrounded by grass, shaded by trees and well maintained. There is poison oak in the trees at the edge of the grass area so I wouldn't wonder beyond the grass unless on a path. There are restrooms across the parking area from the park and plenty of parking - for a Wednesday anyway. Just a sliver of a bigger recreation area and a fantastic pit stop for littles. Not too far from I-5 if needed and well hidden so not a ton of traffic around. Although close to roads (so watch littles close) it is fenced on the street side and open on the parking side. There are waking trails, 4 picnic tables, open grass area, 3 benches available and a dual level fountain.

River kayak & SUP rental | great picnic spot…read more Cook park is a family friendly park. It's huge too. Many can walk around, bring their own boats/kayaks/SUP to launch off the ramp, fish on the river, or have a picnic. It's beautiful here, but it's also very popular over the summer months when folks want to use this place to launch off the ramp. Parking is hard to find. At this spot, you can rent through the Tualatin Riverkeepers. They provided life vests and the kayak of our choice. It was great paddling out on the water with my kid. We stayed pretty close by, so the water was really calm and beginner friendly. We didn't venture past the freeway underpass, we went to the right side from the boat launch. Some parts are so shallow you hit some rocks. This park also offers soccer fields and an updated inclusive family playground. Highly recommend coming here.
