Carlos and crew were super awesome. Had them put a catback exhaust on (I bought the exhaust kit and brought it in). When I got there, they were putting a performance exhaust on a lexus that was up on the rack. They do really good work. I was quoted a great price for my exhaust. We have to have two catalytic converters replaces in our 1998 Tahoe in order to pass smog we were recommended to Brownies and I have to say their customer service was great! First, this shop is located in Modesto CA USA. The answering machine should be in english, not spanish. Second, the one older guy is a grumpy old guy. "my way or the highway" type. Not usually a problem, but when I'm at work I wont send my wife down there and that is inconvenient. On the plus their prices are reasonable, they just need some service training and people skills. I came to this location last week to get a catalytic converter guard placed on my Prius. I was highly impressed how fast and efficient they were. I was in and out in a matter of 45 minutes. They even showed me the underside of my car where they installed it. However, the only thing that is preventing me from giving five stars is their safety measures during the COVID-19 pandemic. My family has been going to Brownie for literally decades! They continually meet or exceed expectations. Their service is much better than most of their competitors (eg. Midas). I have been to great and not-so-great auto repair shops and Brownie consistently delivers the best service and at a fair price. By contrast, Midas has always been consistently rude, unprofessional, and mediocre at best. I would not trust Midas to do an oil change for fear that they would screw it up and blame it on the car. However, Larry and the guys are pros and friendly. I had to change out my catalytic converter recently. It would have cost $2300 at Audi. But Larry found a way to do it for under $450. Then, when the new catalytic converter was found to be defective, Larry told me not to worry and that it was under warranty. The guys swapped it out for a BETTER MODEL and never charged me for the upgrade! WOW! Thanks guys! read more

Work was sub par, non of the workers are certified and work looked like it was done by shade tree mechanic. Owner is real fast talker watch your wallet, better yet go elsewhere. Was told by an employee that worked there to bring our suburban down and they could look at it for $30 and tell us why the ac wasn't working. After dropping it off we got a call about an hour and a half later and was told the problem was the compressor and it could be fixed starting at $650 but there was no garintee that it would resolve the issue. When we picked up the suburban the owner told us that he didn't do anything besides look at the engine with special glasses and a flash light. He was very rude.
