These guys are really good guys. Very personable and will spend time with you to assess your HVAC problem and then give you various options with pros and cons. Unlike Mr. Plumber and other mega HVACs, you are talking to a real live technician over the phone. (See my comments on Mr. Plumber.) I asked over the phone how much it cost to clear the water pipe on my HVAC. He said hit it with a hammer to clear the pipe. He was offering me a way to fix my problem without charging me. Nice. When that didn't work, I asked Mark how much it would cost to come out and clear the pipe. $289 quote over the phone. No way would Mr. Plumber or the other franchise guys do that. He said he will be out the next morning (I called after hours) within a 2-hr window. Mr. Plumber said between noon and 9 PM. You have got to be kidding me. I'll tell you the results after BMS comes out. -------------------------- I dropped my rating from 5 stars to 2 stars. They charged me $289 for a 5 minute job to suck the junk that clogged the water drain pipe to my a/c. The technician didn't even bother to suck the puddled water on my floor with his shop-vac. I gave them 2 stars only because they did fix it and I agreed to pay for it over the phone before they came out. ------------------------ THIS STORY IS NOT OVER. After I posted my last comment, I got a call from the owner, Mark. His desire was to make things right. This is the BMS I have always known. They want to do the right thing. I can say now, that I would 100% recommend this company, especially one that takes customer satisfaction seriously. They stand behind their reputation. I wanted to express how satisfied we were with our recent business transaction. After a wonderful vacation spent out of town, we came home to a sweltering home (100 degrees inside) on July 30. It was apparent that our entire HVAC system was going to need replacing after 23 years of heating and air conditioning our home. We spent several days researching government websites, talking to neighbors and friends, scouring energy star websites and blogs before narrowing the choices down to 3 local companies. Monday, August 1, BMS was the first to respond to our call as well as the first company to come on site for an estimate. Harry was efficient, patient, and friendly as we interrogated him with all of our questions regarding his company, Trane units, and his work. We were so impressed with Harry, the system he put together for us, and the cost, that we assigned the job to him on the spot. Thursday, Harry arrived in the morning with a wonderful crew that included T.J., Mike, and Josh. They were all professional, hard working, thoughtful, and extremely clean. Harry took the time to teach us how to use our new system as well as the new thermostat. It works flawlessly as we watched the temperature lower from 90 degrees when the unit was installed to 75 degrees within 4 hours! We are thoroughly impressed with your company from the initial response to the finished product. I noticed some negative reviews below, and I definitely think people are allowed to voice their opinion. My fiance and I think that BMS and the entire staff that we dealt with during an air conditioning emergency were incredible. Super friendly on the phone, but more importantly knowledgeable and HONEST. That's right, honesty. Something you don't always get in the service industry but TJ helped us in so many ways. We had a ton of questions of course, but he never got frustrated and our house was back to normal (thank god!) in no time. Please read entire article before hiring. I called this company to come out due to my AC not working. The guy came out for 4 hours or so, he left for an hour and a half to "go get a tool." He then said that a coil was leaking and would need replaced but would have to be ordered, which is fine, but being that this was a Friday, he couldn't order until Monday and it likely would not be in until the following Friday. The part was under warranty, so in my eyes, these types of things should be expedited, especially when it's 90 degrees out. At the end of his visit, he said the part was free because it was under warranty but labor was $600. Lol....yes, $600. Anyways, he ordered the part and I had to go without AC for a week. He did, however put Freon in but said it would only last a few days. It ran out after about three days, so I called to see if they could come out and add more Freon to get me by. They stated it would be $200 just to come add Freon. After talking to the guy and hoping he would understand why this was absurd, he said I was "wasting his time" and he didn't want to talk to me anymore....great customer service...... So, Friday comes around and I had to call to see if the part was in...they didn't call me, even though they said they would. They stated the part was en route and would be there around 6pm, but they couldn't come install due to appointments. (I was guaranteed install on Friday). I said it was unacceptable to say that and not own up to it as a company and the lady said there was nothing she could do. She then called me back and said they moved some appts. Around and could come out that night....great. I was happy, besides the fact that she tried to make me feel bad by saying so many appts. Had to be moved around. So I waited..... The installed called me about 2 hours later and said that the manufacturer sent the wrong coil and they would order it and be out that Monday...um wait, what...no. I said that was ridiculous and even though it wasn't his fault, he needed to call the company and get the right coil expedited to be here by Saturday (the following day) and install then. He said he would see what he could do. He called me back 10 mins later and said he was driving to a local manufacturer to get the coil....why wasn't this done a week ago?!?! Here's my thought: The company told the installer to call me and lie and say the wrong coil was ordered and I'd have to wait to get install, even though they had the correct coil the whole time...just so they wouldn't have to come install and move around appts. How was he able to get the coil so fast? He then showed up at my house, rather quickly, as if he didn't have to drive anywhere the whole time, and installed the coil. All in all, this company is extremely unethical and isn't looking out to help the customer at all....$600 for labor and $200 more for Freon? Ummmm.... I would look somewhere else...anywhere else....to get help with your AC. UPDATE: The coil they put in wasn't leaking (I can't make this stuff up). Another guy came out after it stopped working and found a leak in another location on the unit and AGAIN a part had to be ordered. I was GUARANTEED they would come out the next day between 9am-2pm. They called at 3:30pm and said they didn't receive the part and had to come the next day, even though they said it was overnighted to them. This is unreal at this point...... This is all true, I can't make it up at this point. Completely embarrassing on their part. read more

I call them to repair the freezer last Saturday, come here quick and leave quick. The freezer is on 40F，Charge me $129. Let me replace whole unit, cost $5000. Then I call another company，the technician check the compressor and adjust the pressure, the freezer Is normal, I paid $175. Don't ask them to repair anything, save time and money. read more

I had them come out to my townhouse 2 weeks ago. My duct was missing a damper causing the third floor to have poor AC. They were able to fit me in next day early which was very quick and appreciated. Nothing was done after the visit. I had to call my point of contact for the company to find out what was needed and cost. My contact told me the cost was going to be $585! I was very shocked by this and wanted more details of what all needed to be done. He couldn't answer those questions and had the the man who went to the house contact me directly. I was told the cost was to install a Manual Damper. These range in cost from $5 - $100 depending up on the quality of course. I asked the man why this was going to cost so much and verified that he was only installing a manual damper. He went on to tell me they needed to remove the duct (which was easily accessible and only required a ladder) install the damper and replace the duct. He told me the cost was set by the company. I argued that this was very unreasonable and he said he would check back with his company. I NEVER HEARD BACK FROM EITHER MEN!!!! I did not pay for the initial visit ($89) either. Through Angies List I found other HVAC companies and they gave me quotes of $220 and $205. This company attempted to scam me!!! Beware of them. SHAME ON YOU! this is why no one trusts contractors. This company seems to have a standard charge for each visit. In early May they came out on a Sunday when my A/C was not cooling, 90-minutes later it worked and they said they cleaned the coil and told me to change the filter for $349 (that was with a $40 discount I was told) Initially I thought Sunday premium I'm not hot anymore so okay, but still felt screwed. 6-weeks later same problem, I call them and discuss issue over the phone, tell them that they had been out 6-weeks ago, it is diagnosed over the phone as a "freon leak" and I am told it will be $389. This is on a friday, during the day so that Sunday premium argument I made 6-weeks ago to make myself feel better goes out the window. I google A/C repair and get A-1 Heating and A/C Service in Woodbridge... WOW! The guy made it out by 5 p.m. (I called at 1) and charged me $202. to replace a capacitor. I am beyond grateful and will try to push A-1 at any opportunity, on BMS in Haymarket you have been warned. If you have an extra $389. lying around feel free to call them. read more

Be careful as you can talk to different people and will get different prices and it can be confusing. If the other guy does not agree with quote by the good guy, this other guy will tell you to find someone else and hang up on you. No consistency internally. They have no concept about word of honor. We cannot say enough good things about BMS HVAC/R and Harry and his crew. Our HVAC system needed replacing so we started the tedious task of calling out for estimates and reviewing numerous companies. Harry impressed us from the beginning with his professionalism and knowledge of what unit we specifically needed for our home. Other companies tried to tell us we needed to upgrade the size of our AC unit, but Harry explained that was not needed. He also explained our unit needed to be moved out from under our deck where it would receive more airflow. No other company explained this to us. Though their quote was affordable for us, it certainly did not compromise on quality of installation or the professionalism of BMS. On the day of install, installers were actually early and took their time to make sure everything was installed correctly. Harry showed my husband exactly how to use the thermostat and how to use the system and filter. Later that night we smelled remnants of gas from when they replaced the system but they even came out during peak traffic time in order to make sure nothing was leaking and the system was installed correctly and our home would be safe. We would not hesitate to use BMS HVAC/R for any other home project. In fact we need our water heater replaced soon and they will be the first we will call! We would recommend BMS HVAC/R to our friends and family based on our wonderful experience! read more

It was a Sunday morning on July 24 when the entire East Coast was in the midst of heat wave. I realized that my AC was acting up again. KNowing the coming week will be extremely hot and I was worried for my five month old puppy who cannot stand being in this kind of temperature too long. I called around and could not find a service provider who can provide emergency service until I found BMS. Tony came early afternoon. He was very personable and committed to get this job done well. He spent time to diagnosis the problem and also spent time listening to my opinion and the history of the AC repairs job which was done a few weeks ago. He went above and beyond to get the job done and done well. Tony also offered to come check and follow up on the AC the next day. I really appreciate the effort and professionalism of Tony. My AC was then running as cool as it could go. I am very happy about the service that I got from BMS. I would highly recommend to anyone. read more

Well at least some people got good service from this company. I got nothing but problems. I even filed a BBB complaint against them and reviewed them on Angie's list. TJ responded to that review "offering" to "satisfy me" and when I gave them the opportunity (I wasn't asking for any money) someone named nijer threatened me with legal action for "bad mouthing" them. Really?? They were completely rude to me and unprofessional and I have every right to share the truth of my horrible experiences. If they don't like it, they should have provided better service. I also have the right to complain when they don't stand behind the promises they make on their website, the BBB website, and Angie's list. They're just bullies who think they can provide poor customer service and then sue the dissatisfied customer into submission for posting negative reviews. That just proves that my complaints about them are valid. The people who got 5 star service are lucky, but a lot of those reviews specifically refer to TJ. I never gave TJ the opportunity to come to my house because by then I was DONE with them, but TJ never even followed through with his "offer" to "satisfy me" so I have to wonder how great he really is. read more
