This review is for Brother's Encore as an alternative to Subway. Lemme explain. From high school to my post-college years, I ate Subway regularly. "One six inch Steak and Cheese on wheat and one Deli-Style Seafood and Crab sandwich, please." Yup. That was my go-to order. Some may convulse at the thought of a Seafood and Crab Sandwich from Subway (the last time I ate one, I had bad gas for at least two days...), but truth be told, I would probably still eat one. I digress. Eventually, I branched out and started my "I'm gonna try everything on every menu" phase. And eventually, I grew tired of Subway. Now, I look for local joints at every opportunity, and I pretty much avoid Subway unless it is the only option. Although, that Seafood and Crab does sound good... No, David. Do not do it. Where was I? Ah yes. So today, as I headed for a quick hike, I needed to grab a couple of sandwiches on my way to the woods. "Hmmm. There's a Subway nearby... Local joint... I heard this Brother's place has good subs." I called ahead and ordered an Italian Hoagie Supreme and Encore's Club Sub. Picked up the order. Drove for 30 minutes. Hiked for an hour. Drove back home. I gave the Italian Hoagie Supreme to my friend. And I don't know if it was because I was hungry from the hike or what, but holy smoke, did I ever demolish that Club. It was fantastic. Even after sitting in my car for two hours. Now tell me, who can boast that their subs are good after sweating in a car for a couple of hours? Not many places. But Brother's can. I propose they make that their motto. "Subs better than Subway, even after sweating in cars." It just occurred to me that I'm lucky I didn't get food poisoning. Heck, even if I did though, it would've been my own dang fault, and the sub was still great. I can't wait to go back and try the food they're actually known for. Italian being the obvious first choice. Until that happens, though, they will be my Montclair alternative to Subway. read more

Won't be eating at this nightmare again. If you got two hours to wait for food that's cold, horrible, overpriced and only part of what you ordered eat here. Amazing the place stays in business. Must be that there are two few good places to eat and delivers. Try Astoria they don't deliver but the foods good. read more

Great local restaurant. Location and ease of getting a table are a few of the reasons my family enjoys dining there. Not a huge fan of their pizzas but they do make an amazing pepperoni roll. Their marinara and Alfredo sauces are delicious and the garlic knots are to die for! Wish they would offer a half size of their speciality salads. I do not see a pizza menu here...BUT, let me tell you about my visit today. I took my granddaughter here after school--last day of 2nd grade!! Yay!! We walked in, and there were not many people seated...a few singles mostly my age. I asked one man how the food is and he gave me a thumbs up! Ok!! We seated ourselves and looked through the menu and settled on pizza. Their 'specials' all had onions and mushrooms which my granddaughter doesn't like so we ordered a gluten-free with pepperoni, sausage, black olives, anchovies and spinach. I believe I read that the $14 gluten-free only came in large and there is a $2 extra charge. Ok. When we were served the smallest 'large' pizza I have ever seen, I was ok because my little companion was excited . ..Now, when I got the check I almost keeled over. The pizza was $14 PLUS $2.25 for anchovies, $2.25 black olives, $2.25 pepperoni, $2.25 sausage (?), $2.50 spinach. The lemonade was $2.50---- and I feel like I was violated. The corned beef and cabbage are served in large portions and cut as they ought to be. The bartenders do an excellent job of taking care of the patrons! The beer selection is minimal, but the bartenders do the best they can to keep clientele happy. It is nice that there is a separate dining area from the bar which makes the experience child friendly. As a company they are involved in the community and offer special events for attendees including karaoke, live bands, and themed events (especially on St. Patrick's Day). The best way to be aware of such on goings is to utilize their Facebook page which posts the schedule of events and bands weekly (approximately). We came here looking for pizza after a cold yet rewarding hike through Prince William Forest Park and Brother's Encore! did not disappoint. My companion ordered the Chicken Marsala, which left something to be desired both in taste and appearance, while I ordered a gluten-free white pizza with extra salami for good measure. Any pizza, let alone gluten-free, is hard to nail in the DMV, as my Long Island-born-and-raised friend pointed out, but Brothers' hit the spot. Great service as well! read more

Just moved to the area and was running some errands with the family on Friday 2/3/2017 . Decided to stop in for a bite and oh my was i suprised! This place is a gem! The ladies were extremely friendly! The service was amazing! Oh and let me tell you! THE FOOD WAS AMAZING! I personally had a pineapple ham pizza pie hands down the best i've had in a while! I'm not a fan of all the sauce they put on their pasta, though I could just ask for less That said, I finally broke down and tried one of their subs (the Philly Sausage sub), and it was very good. Karaoke Night on Fridays is always a blast and if you're into performance art, then Wednesday is a night for you. The bar can get a little cramped very early, so if you have a big group make sure not to get there early enough or you might not have a seat, let a lone a table. We came here with our LO and grandparents on a Friday night. The staff were very accommodating and the pizzas were fantastic--great taste and price! We have eaten here on and off throughout the years but it has been forever before today. For some reason traffic was worse than rush hour traffic today (a Saturday) and we had to go to Target, and did not want to get stuck in the Cracker Barrel/Chick Fila/IHOP/El Paso mess today. There really aren't any other restaurants besides the steakhouse which I'm not a fan of up that stretch of 234. I went with my tween daughter and she wanted wings and spaghetti with meatballs so we decided to try this place. It was not crowded at all, and the fountain was peaceful. This was a relief from the madness everywhere else around the area. Our waitress was great, I wish I would've got her name, she was an older lady. We started off with wings and fried pickles. My daughter loved the wings, and she is super hard to please, and the fried pickles were great. The iced tea was also great, most places have a nasty coffee taste. Our waitress knew exactly when to place our entrees so we had enough time to eat our apps. My daughter got the spaghetti and meatballs, and I had the baked ziti. The ziti was delicious, and I'm a ziti snob. I also tried a piece of meatball which was really good. Most of the time meatballs are tough, or chewy. These were really tender. Another table ordered pizza which looked delicious. I was tempted to take some home, but already had a ton of ziti left to take home. The waitress brought us teas to go and offered to wrap everything up individually. Again all of the food was great, and I had a happy tween who is super hard to please, and both of us had dinner as well. The service was awesome, and it was a much needed break from the chaos everywhere else, and an enjoyable mother/daughter lunch day. I will definitely start coming back more often. It is definitely better than Paisanos and Brothers in Dale City, and they have a good variety of food selections as well. read more

I am Italian and have always wanted a family run, authentic Italian spot to go to in the neighborhood. You can always judge by the sauce, bread and meatballs to know if it's legit or if it came from a frozen food distributor. These guys are legit! I had the fettucine with white clam sauce and my hubby had lasagna with glasses of Chianti. Also, our 1 yr old loved the meatballs with pasta and cheese. I took tiramisu home and enjoyed it later that night. It was great and even the owner came by to check in and play with the baby. We arrived at 6p, ordered at 6:20p and got our pizza at 7:40p with no apologies but a few lame excuses about how they were busy. All the while multiple tables around us that were seated after us were receiving their food before us. There were no offers from the staff to make amends, comps, etc. and again almost no apologies just excuses. We had to request a manager at which point they sent out a line chef who still didn't offer anything. Needless to say, if you still decide to go, the Quattro Gusti pizza was tasty but a bit watery. Shopping plaza mall is the home of this fake Italian restaurant. Interior is the tackiest I've ever seen! Square mirrors stuck to the wall and fake arch decor along with a fountain in the middle which just screams cheese! This place got stuck in the 80s. My corona arrived with an old brown lime. My eyes kept scrolling thru the long menu, and I just couldn't pick anything decent. Finally we opted for an appetizer platter and manicotti. Appetizer platter was full of fried chunks of mushrooms and mozarella sticks, and the side sauce looked too red to be tomato. The fried batter layer was soo thick, and soaked in oil, it unpleasantly burst in the mouth. When my dinner plate arrived the waiter warned about it being hot, and I just accidentally brushed my arm against it and, Damn, I burnt myself and later even had a scar on my arm. The blob of melted cheese covered the pasta, unreal. It's time to get legal protection and stay away from this place for good. read more

We've been back to Brother's many times. The pizza and pasta are still outstanding. Now we're stuck on the all meat pizza. We substitute bacon (that makes for double bacon) over the ground beef and add extra cheese. The pie is incredible. Highly recommend Brothers! read more

Only con is that they can't seem to slice up the pizza very well. We always end up having to re-cut the entire pie ourselves. They don't deliver. Pay cash if you can because they charge a credit card fee (take-out & dine-in). Dining-in: Twice so far. It's a casual establishment. Service is ok- we've always gotten refills on our drinks without asking. Here's what we've had to date: Apps: (1) Garlic knots - delicious! Served with marinara sauce. It's a must order; (2) chicken & rice soup: meaty, but on the sour / vinegary-side. Don't think they make it fresh daily nor serve it often because our server told me that it would take a few minutes for her to heat it up so I wouldn't get it right away. Hmmm.... Main entree: As always, their pizza is good. Lunch specials: stuffed shells or was it manicotti? Either way, it wasn't anything special. The sauce was rather bland. I've ordered the corned beef & cabbage on both occasions. First time: It was super salty! As if the chef dropped the entire contents of the shaker onto my plate. Ordered it again on my second visit, only because I love corned beef & cabbage and wanted to give them another shot. Still a bit on the salty side, but not as bad as the first and it was a bit tough. Perhaps it was left overs from St. Patty's Day weekend special? The cabbage & potatoes were tasty though. Nonetheless, I won't order it again and will just stick to pizza. This is a great, family-owned, local Italian restaurant fused with some basic American and Irish fare (corned beef and cabbage, etc.). More than just a restaurant, this is a community gathering place and there's good local musical talent in the pub area from time to time. Whatever "night life" might exist in Montclair, overall, it is probably spear-headed by this place. I personally prefer ordering off the menu to the pizza, as the individual entrees are so good. Decent place for families with kids. Cool fountain. Noise-level generally lends itself to groups/families. read more
