Deliciousness - 2.5/5 Happiness 3/5 I feel bad rating this place 2 stars since it's got a wonderful Evan, looks swanky, and I'm always happy to have a new restaurant into a town that needs so many more options. But this just didn't make the cut. The menu options are great, a wide array of fun pizza, pasta, and sandwich options. But the food didn't live up to the potential. The main culprit is the over-seasoned sauce. It is wildly tangy and thick, overwhelming all the other toppings. Also, despite having a gorgeous oven, our pizzas came without the cheese being fully melted. I got the pasta, papardelle with a lamb ragout. I was so psyched to have a menu option like that here. But the pasta was overcooked and very limp. The sauce needed much more meat in it (or at least a healthier serving of sauce when you're serving such large noodles). We got an italian soda for our daughter, but it was too tangy (loaded with lots of cherries though). I will commend the pizza crust, it was flavorful and nicely crispy on the outside while pleasently chewy within. The servers were nice but inconsistent. They disappeared for long periods of time and our food and drinks came at random intervals. I got my pasta about 5 minutes before my pizza (after we watched them try to serve it to the wrong table). It took over 20 minutes for our drink orders to arrive. Hopefully the longer they're open the better they'll get. read more

Came here Sunday around 5pm with the family. It's a new spot--really clean with nice modern decor. The staff was friendly and the food came out pretty fast, except the pizza took a little longer. We got the Dolce Vita pizza (sweet and savory), which was tasty. The Burrata salad was good--fresh and nicely balanced. The Bomboloni was soft and sweet, definitely a favorite. Artisana Pizza: A Masterclass in Overcharging and Underwhelming My recent dinner at Artisana Pizza was a culinary tragedy in three acts: baffling first impressions, a brief glimmer of hope, and a finale of overpriced, underwhelming dishes. If you're looking for a restaurant that boldly asks how little it can offer for the highest possible price, look no further. The evening began with a red flag. When we inquired about the soup of the day, our server candidly informed us it wasn't available because it "hadn't been good." An honest, if ominous, start. We moved on to the Gamberoni alla Genovese, which will now live in infamy as "The Great Shrimp Heist." For a staggering $14, we were presented with four lone, overcooked, tough shrimp, each perched sadly atop a piece of bread. To put this into perspective, Barcelona in Reston serves a far superior dish with eight shrimp for under $10. When I pointed out the ludicrous nature of charging $14 for four shrimp, the waiter had the good grace to look embarrassed and comped the appetizer. A welcome gesture, but it couldn't salvage the insult of it being on the menu in the first place. Bizarrely, the kitchen is capable of getting things right. The Brick Oven Baked Wings (8 for $12) and the pizzas were genuinely flavorful and enjoyable. This fleeting moment of competence only served to highlight the brazen price-gouging of the other dishes. Unfortunately, the success ended there. The Salmone al Pesto ($34) was a masterwork of mediocrity--aggressively bland, overcooked, and certainly not worth its premium price tag. The Lasagna Clasica ($18) was similarly devoid of flavor and passion. But the final act of this farce was the Linguini Al Gamberini e Funghi. For $30, we received a bowl of unseasoned pasta, mushrooms, cream sauce, and--you guessed it--exactly four shrimp. Is there a severe shrimp shortage in Dumfries I am unaware of? Charging $30 for a dish that costs pennies on the dollar to make is not just bad value; it's a joke. Well, the joke was on me for dining there. With vastly superior and more honest Italian restaurants like Ciao Osteria and Trattoria Villagio just a short drive away, spending money at Artisana Pizza is an experience I will not be repeating. I was looking for different pizza and I located a new restaurant in Dumfries. Artisana is new right on 234 with plenty of parking. It gave me date night/family dinner vibes. A full bar, 2 big screen tvs. They have an extensive wine list. The waitstaff are very attentive. I ordered the meatball appetizer-3 large meatballs covered in a marinara sauce and served with 2 dollops of mozzarella cheese and bread points. I also had the sausage pizza. The food was good and I was excited to try it. The only issue? FOOD TEMPERATURE!! Everything came out in a reasonable amount of time but when I bit into it, it was just above lukewarm. I figured with the huge oven they have behind the counter my food would come out blazing. All in all, a good meal but it would have been great with more heat. I will go back, though. read more

The restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere and wasn't too crowded, so service was smooth and quick. Awful - just awful. We came here hoping this would be good Italian - something much needed in the area! But, Artisana falls short. First of all, the service was terrible. The server was extremely awkward. I could normally get past that - but then he kept calling me "honey" and "love" which was just weird, and not at all endearing. After our food came, he disappeared for over 45 minutes, and when we saw him he wouldn't come over. Our drinks were never refilled, and dirty appetizer plates stayed on the table throughout the meal. The same was true in the rest of the restaurant - there were about 3 other parties over the course of us being there, and several empty tables, but all filled with dirty dishes that just sat there. Now for the food - first, the focaccia is not focaccia at all. I'm not sure why it's even called that. It's more like a busted up calzone or something. For the pizza, it could've been better if they used the same sauce from the focaccia - the sauce was obnoxiously sweet and the dough was undercooked and chewy underneath the sauce. (As a Jersey girl - this pizza is worse than chain restaurants - idk what the other review is talking about - this is NOT NY/NJ style pizza in the slightest.) the chicken parm was also not great. The meat was not pounded down, so it was very thick in certain areas and very thin in others. This of course caused uneven cooking throughout. Some parts dry, some burnt, and some just cooked. Overall it was chewy and fairly bland. The pasta accompanying it was underdone as well. Unfortunately, we will not be back here. I can't understand how there are such great reviews - if this was a bad night - it was a VERY bad night. read more

We had been waiting for this place to open for a couple of months now and finally got to visit this past Sunday. The restaurant's interior is contemporary and nicely laid out. The service was attentive, but not overbearing. The fried calamari was fresh and extra crunchy...highly recommended. The focaccia was mediocre...basically cheesy bread. The pizzas looked amazing and tasted good. The main issue with this visit is that the tomato sauce, on the margarita pizza, is too pastie and lacks the fresh taste that you normally get from a higher end pizza place. I would say that this place will end up becoming a great neighborhood hang out once they iron out a few issues. I will definitely go back and I hope that the sauce gets a rework. I've had the pizza and several entrees and it's all been great. The service was a little awkward at first but they had just opened and that's inevitable-- what matters is that the staff have made an effort and seem to care about creating a nice experience. We had to try this new pizza place. We went on a Friday night and it was pretty busy. There was a nice bar serving alcoholic beverages and a self service kiosk to place an order to go. The restaurant is well lit and family friendly. Someone quickly greeted us and asked if we needed to be seated. We placed a to-go order for a margarita pizza which took about 30 minutes. I forgot to take a picture but we ordered a medium which came with 6-8 small pieces. It was delicious! The ingredients were fresh and the tomato sauce was great. My only issue was it was a tad bland but still very good. However, I personally enjoy adding garlic salt, crushed red pepper, parmesan and oregano to my pizza but there didn't appear to be any readily available inside the restaurant (we did not ask for it but usually it would be visible if available). I ordered pizza from here. I ordered online but from the wrong locations-word of advice confirm your order location. I reordered and only needed to wait about 10 minutes for 2 pizzas. I have to say the customer service was excellent-I wasn't happy about the order but the person who helped me stayed calm and took my order immediately worked in my pizzas. I needed help taking the pizza to the car without asking the young man offered to help me and I was so grateful I was wondering how I was going to get them to the car. He even opened my door for Me. So was the pizza good Yes. I had the Dolce Vita and the BF had the meatball-they were delicious! And a good size for individual consumption. Been there twice, once for lunch (pizza) and once for dinner (entrees). Both were solid. Highly recommend you try it. Service good both times. Ambiance nice. Deducted a star for overly expensive drinks and a $28 rigatoni that was a very small for the price. The veal piccata on the other hand was a nice portion, reasonable price and out of bounds good. I simply had to review as someone posted a positive review about this new place and I need to provide an honest breakdown because I love pizza and it's my favorite food. Obviously I was very excited to learn this place was opening as there is absolutely no decent pizza within 20 miles of this area. I have very high standards when it comes to pizza- I lived in Italy and have had really good pizza in life. I like a Neapolitan Margherita made with really great ingredients. Currently I drive to ciao osteria in Fairfax or pupatella for this. So when this opened I was beyond ecstatic. The excitement was far fetched. I ordered a margherita for delivery. And ok delivery is always a little subpar so I understand but when the pizza arrived there was no saving it. The crust- bland. The sauce- NO FLAVOR. The mozzarella cheese- omg- an embarrassment to any Italian or pizza lover- was not even melted- just thick slices on mozzarella. If the cheese doesn't melt it's either due to an ineptitude of the pizza technician or poor quality cheese. The pizza was really below average and honestly ordering some dominos might be a better option. This place is a let down. Maybe the other menu options are better maybe the wine is good- but the pizza is a disgrace. Just some more smoke in mirrors. I would love this area to get some high quality food options but alas it's still dominos if I don't feel like driving to Fairfax. read more
