a shot of a bottle and a glass on a table
Nathan P.

Just left a review for the west sac location but this is where my whiskey journey started. I grabbed a Jack Daniel's single barrel barrel proof per the clerks suggestion and that's when I realized there was way more than just Jameson out there. Went back a few more times to grab each different Elijah Craig barrel proof batch. Then the guy introduced me to a store pick of 1792 full proof. The shop has a huge selection and is my go to place whenever I'm looking for something new. Be sure to take them up on their suggestions as I haven't been disappointed.

The bottle of Big Red that was really old!

Ok to be totally fair these guys do have some great prices on their liquor and they are nice people. I'm writing this review because I'm mad that they sell soda that is from 2019. It was totally hot today, almost 100, and I stopped by to get a cold drink. I grabbed a Sunkist and a Big Red both priced at $.99 each. I paid for it and went back out in the heat about half a block I opened the Big Red and it made no noise but thought nothing of it. I took one drink and it was so stale and flat it made me sick. I took a good look at the bottle and it had a offer on it that you can make e-cash for every two bottles. This offer was good from the dates 5-31-19 to 10-31-19. There is no exp date but with this info on the bottle I take it it was made sometime in 2019. It for sure tasted like it. Yuck yuck yuck!

Attentive, friendly, and professional employees! They started carrying a drink I liked after I asked about it.

As far as breweries go Sudwerk Brewing is royalty…read more They were the first brewpub to open in Davis and have been around since 1989. If that ain't brewery royalty, I don't know what is. That being said, before my most recent visit, I hadn't been here in probably four years. Luckily that's going to change because my most recent visit was a great one. The wifey and I decided we wanted to have a drinking day, well maybe I should call it a "brewery crawl", sounds more dignified, and we decided to do it in Davis and what better spot to start it than Sudwerk Brewing. When we arrived, I was surprised that the whole thing has changed since last I'd been here, last time I swear I ordered beer in the back garage and they didn't have the classy setup they have now. They have a great outside area now that is just an awesome spot to sit and enjoy food and drink. But even their inside area where the bars are, it's great in there, total chill spot, even have a decent arcade for those of us who enjoy that kind of thing. Like I mentioned I hadn't been here in a while, so I decided to go with a beer sampler and the wifey went with an Aperol Spritz. As far as food goes, we decided in the spirit of the crawl, we would stick to appetizers. I went with the elote corn ribs and the wifey went with the truffle garlic fries. The service was pretty good, though I did order off a QR code at my table, they got my order right and everything was delivered very quickly. The fries were super garlicky and loved the truffle shavings, I really enjoyed them, the aioli it came with was top notch. The elote corn ribs were the cutest little things, but tasty, I also enjoyed them and would order those bad boys again for sure. The wife's Aperol Spritz was pretty good, she mentioned it being quite refreshing and she ended up ordering two of them. The beer sampler,I mean we are at the oldest brewpub in Davis, you know the beer was going to be on point and it was. The IPAs and the Double IPAs stood out the most, I really enjoyed the cider as well. Overall my visit was very solid and was a great way to start our brewery crawl in Davis. My overall impression of this place is that it's like a destination spot in a lot of ways, especially on a nice sunny day, they have it all, really good food menu, award-winning beer, facilities to accommodate just about any type of party with their inside and outside dining area. Can't go wrong choosing Sudwerk Brewing.

I've had really mixed experiences here. When I moved here…read moreover 20 years ago, it was a good place for beer, but a terrible place for food. The restaurant closed and for a while they were in transition. In the meantime, I found the dock store, which I truly loved. Really great vibe and a fantastic way to try a lot of beers that you would never find anywhere else. The people were amazing. Not really a food experience, but they did their best to bring in some good food trucks, etc., until the restaurant opened again. Now the restaurant is open fully as of a couple of years ago. Completely refurbished, and it looks great. The problem is that the service is really strange. Consistently. I can't tell you the number of times I've sat on the patio only to be ignored for a half an hour or more. Inside is also hit or miss. That seems to be their Achilles heel The food has improved considerably. Four stars for that! Prices are reasonable for better than average bar food. They do have some nice specials from time to time. The patio is great. Yes, trains will go by, but it's pretty infrequent and hey, you've got to expect that! They do their best to keep it cool as well. The live music can be very good and not deafening, which I appreciate. Pub quiz is always fun as well! And how can I not mention the beer? The beer is great. There's always something new to try, and it's local, which I love. I keep hoping the service issues would improve. That would definitely bump them up a star in my book.

Came to Great Bear Vineyards on a Thursday night during the summertime and I was pleasantly…read moresurprised to see how packed it was. There was a line dancing event outside with a food truck. I did not attend this event, but did their regular indoor wine tasting. The signature wine tasting was only $20 and the wine was so good. The female staff member was very welcoming and friendly. She did a good job explaining all the wine we had and how we could purchase bottles to go. Definitely will visit again in the future and recommend if anyone is interested in wine tasting in Davis, CA.

Our…read moreoriginal plan was just to stop by for a glass of wine, but we weren't really asked what option we preferred and were automatically charged for a wine tasting. I'm guessing wine tastings are mainly what the vineyard offers, but it would've been nice to have the choice explained first. This is where my 2/5 stars comes in. They only had one person serving about 12 tables. My party was only a group of 2, but there were other tables with groups as large as 9 people. It literally took 25 minutes to receive my second pour, and the only reason we got it was because I had to remind the staff. I think having at least two people pouring wine would make the experience much smoother. Upon arrival, they also have a small parking area for non-reserved parking. Luckily, we were able to find a close spot. As for the restroom, personally I'm not a fan of unisex bathrooms, and they also did not have seat covers available. Overall, the staff was friendly, but the service and organization could definitely be improved. Apart from all this, I have visited multiple wineries in Livermore, which is closer to the Bay Area, and their wine bottles are much cheaper. Their wine tasting options are also more affordable. This is just my personal experience and opinion overall I don't think I would consider coming back.

He let us know that happen to have a vintage 2018, 2019 & 2021 red wine flight for $30, we did the wine flight while hubby got the draft beer. We also decided to get a light appetizer to go with our drinks that night we got the pita bread with the warm hummus, everything is made in house and everything was so delicious. So good you almost wanna lick the plate. Our daughter walked around to take a look at the collection that they had on the wall where you can buy bottles there, Jared personally, came out to answer any question that she had about the wines and he was very knowledgable about it all. As we sat there and enjoyed our evening together, we saw all sorts of people trickle in, sit down and have drinks and food and just talk. The ambiance is very relaxed and very chill. It's so nice to know that a cool place like this exist in Davis. We will definitely be back next time with more friends and family. We enjoyed ourselves very much and it is so lovely that it has so many cute gifts and trinkets to buy for that wine enthusiast in your life. If you buy any full bottles to go you also get a discount. :)

I've tried a lot of different things on the menu but my go-to order is the Bleu Cheese Burger with Curly Fries and ranch. They have menus easily accessible right outside for you to look through. They have tons of choices, I just got the classic cheeseburger with pepper jack. He had the avocado burger. We ordered medium well since we don't like the pink in it when it comes to burgers anyway. The service was good and friendly. The prices were pretty normal. I like that you get a choice between french fries or salad. Of course we both chose french fries though lol. Each table already has ketchup, salt, and pepper. I like that there was just water that you can refill up yourself so you didn't have to be left waiting and can drink as much water as you want. They had a good selection of beers and it was a nice casual atmosphere. Wasn't too crowded, but I'm sure that might be because I went during a weekday afternoon. It was hot, but they had sprayers and fans going, which is nice. And although wasn't complete full sit down service, the workers still checked on us which I felt that means that they genuinely care about their customers. Now, the food! The burger was cooked perfectly with the right amount of char on the outside and still moist and juicy on the inside. The pepper jack cheese was melted, and the burger was seasoned well. All the vegetables were fresh, crispy clean lettuce. I felt like the pickle they either made it themselves or they get it from somebody handmade. And the buns also tasted homemade. We were both impressed with our burgers, however, the avocado burger, which he got had a lot of mayonnaise on it. So just a heads up they do put pretty much all the condiments on the burger so just make sure to specify what you want or don't want condiment wise when ordering. As far as parking, it's downtown so it's a lot easier to walk or bike to this location. However, there is some parking around the block and by the park - you just need to be aware of signs. I really feel like this place can host multiple different kinds of going out. We went out for a casual afternoon date, but of course there's families there, friends getting together, small groups of two or maybe even just one person and of course, larger groups were there too. I can see it being a kind of a cool date spot for more casual kind of date and of course I can see this being used as like family gatherings so I like that it's very versatile . We will definitely be back! I especially need to try more of their brews
